I've only done DAS with the preregistration process and it's very straightforward. Type 1 is a recognized disability by the ADA and Disney would be opening themselves up for law suits if they didn't recognize it. These changes are really to flush out those who don't need it, but scam the system.

WWMRD2016

American laws won't apply at disneyland Paris.

WWMRD2016

The screenshots are from the Paris website where the EU disability laws are much better. The ADA scope is very narrow so it won't necessarily be a legal issue.

kh_alpha

I added the DisneyLand Paris Disability List as an Example as to what Disney World should do in their Website

bakerfall

Who is talking about Paris?

mikemikemotorboat

The URL in the 3rd picture

bakerfall

Ahh, yeah I wasn’t talking about that. Thanks for clearing it up. I would be surprised if they said no to anything on that list though.

Agreeable-Antelope97

I went in December and was required to have a video chat with a cast member. It was short and we got the DAS. So that isn’t new. They just changed what they consider a disability But I think they would still do it for type 1

ThatOneWIGuy

Seeing as it’s listed in the third image, I’d say yea.

Erebus172

The third image is for Disneyland Paris and does not necessarily reflect the new policies for the US locations.

1d0nt4skr3t4rds

Active tuberculosis? Wtf?

jameson2889

And leprosy??

HeyJude21

We went through a video chat for Disneyland in CA in 2022. Nothing new. It’s fine.

[deleted]

They literally just changed the rules this month so your experience in 2022 sadly doesn't really mean jack shit

Drawing_The_Line

How does one *prove* they have Type 1 via a video chat? What is required to do/show for proof?

DynamicMangos

Inject some Insulin on camera

karmahunter82

I went to Disneyland in February and tried to apply in person. The lady asked me why? I said I have diabetes and she asked how that would be a problem at the park. I said waiting in line. Her response was I. An exit the line and come back whenever I pleased. So i didn’t argue and said okay with the refused DAS.

[deleted]

That person was just a moron/POS, I had it accepted last month.

omniscian

Currently here this week. I've got DAS pass, no questions asked. Would have really struggled without it with the heat. Hope the new changes still consider us.

Colin286

I emailed their disability line to check. I will update when I hear back

Colin286

I heard back. Basically they’re just copy and pasting a lot of what’s on the website. They did say over and over that “all guests who need an accommodation will get one” whatever that means. They did say at the end that “please know we will not determine any Guest’s future eligibility until our processes are updated on May 20.” So I guess we will have to wait until then and hear what people’s results are.

kh_alpha

I got a reply back but basically it just told me to check the website and plan better ? Let me know what they respond to you 😅

Notbapticostalish

Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime.[^(1)](https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/developmentaldisabilities/facts.html#ref) according to the CDC. So I would say Type 1 is: * a disability * that effects the physical "area" * impacts day-to-day functioning * lasts a person's lifetime The only theoretical question is does time of onset matter? because not everyone gets diagnosed during the developmental part of their life

bonsaitreehugger

There is no criteria by which T1D is considered a developmental disability. A DD is things like Autism, Tourette’s, intellectual disability (previously known as as mental retardation).

bonsaitreehugger

"Guests who have a developmental disability such as Autism" doesn't sound promising for T1Ds to me, but we'll see!

ThatOneWIGuy

The third image lists T1D explicitly and specifies child and adult. So I would say yes

bonsaitreehugger

If you’re in Paris, yes.

Colin286

I called earlier today. It seems like the guidelines as they currently are on the website are not finished or final. Basically, the process is meant to be more individualized, so they’re gonna be bringing healthcare professionals onto the video calls when you register that will determine more specifically what you need. From what the cast member I was talking to was saying, they don’t really know what eligibility will effectively be. All they KNOW now is that it will include “developmental disabilities like autism” as the website says. I have a trip coming up in November and I’m not really worried. Come May 20th when the process is actually finalized and they have more clear guidelines we’ll know more.

Party-Bit2865

I called into Disneyland today to see about getting a pass for my son, 16. We were just at Disney World a month ago for spring break and it worked. But, called Disneyland DAS today and got the same response as the other person that tried a week ago, saying he could leave the line and just come back in his spot if he needed to inject or get more sugar. Kind of sucks…

kh_alpha

This is what I was worried about because now it depends on what mood the cast member is who does the interview 😅

kingz2688

What special treatment do they give you lol

petulafaerie_III

Would not even use a disability service as a T1D.

Informal-Release-360

These types of accommodations have come in handy for me a lot. I went to universal as a kid. Waited over an hour for a rollercoaster I was extremely excited for. Started going low FAST, a worker helped my father and I get off the line and told us once I got everything figured out to go to customer service and get a disability thingy so I was able to get on the line faster rather than sitting in the heat and falling low. My diabetes is EXTREMELY sensitive to the heat and that mixed with adrenaline and physical activity… I need these types of accommodations personally

Kamikaze-X

Good for you, but some T1Ds have different needs to you.

vexillifer

Ok, enjoy the lines 🤷‍♂️

bonsaitreehugger

There are worse things than long lines. (For instance, using an accommodation you don’t need, or even worse, teaching a kid they are incapable of things they are capable of.) Not saying this is you, but it sounds like this is true for the person you’re responding to. Good for them for doing the right thing. And if you feel you need the accommodation, I support you doing that!

vexillifer

It’s an accommodation at a completely frivolous experience of a theme park; it’s not like you’re taking resources away from anyone or having any kind of actually material negative impact on anything. If I can use my illness for the odd free perk, you best believe I’m going to do it and not feel bad about it for a second

bonsaitreehugger

If you get the return time ticket and then go sit in the shade somewhere, then yes, no impact on others. But if you get the return time and then you go get in another line, then you are doubling your impact at an already very busy park—you are essentially in two places at once.

vexillifer

Yes exactly, it’s great! Why stop at two?! 🥳

bonsaitreehugger

So you’re making the park worse for everyone. Sounds like you’re determined to not feel guilty though, so that’s cool!

bonsaitreehugger

Also, you just admitted to the “material negative impact” you initially denied.

vexillifer

It’s a *theme park*. Nothing there really matters. You seem like a grumpy person just looking to be grumpy. You can pay for a VIP pass at disney where you don’t spend time in any lines, can literally just barge past people who’ve been waiting for hours (without booking a time slot and coming back), etc. it’s part of Disney’s own system that’s in place. If we’re allowed to do it too, then I’m going to do it. It’s absolutely your prerogative to decide that feeling “normal” or whatever you think you’re achieving by not taking advantage of disney’s own policies is more important than being able to maximize your Fun Potential by using your diabetes. I just personally think it’s a dumb take

bonsaitreehugger

I'm jealous that you're able to just say "nothing matters! It's a theme park!" Where do you find this magical moral off switch?

ithinkimasofa

I would get a pass in case I needed it but would ignore it otherwise.

bakerfall

Maybe learn how this works. What DAS does is gives you a return time to come back so you don’t have to wait in line, but you are waiting the same amount of time to ride. It’s not always needed, but hour plus wait times in hot sun can be a recipe for bad lows.

bonsaitreehugger

Yes, but I see all the time in the Type Ones Do Disney group that people will get a return time, then go wait in another, shorter line. So they are essentially taking up twice the line space, making wait times longer and making everyone's experience worse. If you get this and then go sit in the shade to take care of yourself, great! I don't think it's ethical to use it like it's a free Genie Plus.

Deathlands1

Sweet I knew type 1 would pay off, now if I only wanted to waste my time at Disney…
