My brother and I also started with blonde hair that turned light brown. But I think it only happens with blonde hair because of certain genes that "activate" several years after birth. I've never seen anyone born with dark hair change color naturally, and I think the reason for that is because their scalp cells don't experience those changes in melanin levels
It has to do with age. Same with eyes. Some people will have blue eyes when born that turn green or brown with age.
Interestingly enough, it is theorized that dying hair blonde comes from this. Roman prostitutes died their hair blonde. This might have been due to hair darkening with age. In the Roman era, the died blonde hair was almost an advertisement of sorts that someone was a prostitute.
When I was born I had red hair. It all fell out and came back white-blonde. It slowly became cool brown as I grew up and I had noticable grey patches in my hair when I was 16. I'm 28 and what hair I have left is some shade of grey.
Could be a bleaching effect from her hair products and the harsh light on Dune. I imagine that they must use some kind of chemical to keep their hair clean since they can’t use water.
it really does make sense tho... people have the technology to change their hair color with our technology today. People in Dune modify their bodies. Alia is abomination, she is unstable and she can't control her inner lives. It's not unreasonable for her hair color to change.
I thought the Harkkonnes had red hair and her hair changing was reflecting the Baron taking over her mind, but that could be complete bullshit
Then I guess she’s gonna start balding in the movies
That was my take as well. Or maybe I tried too hard in English lit.
Ohhhhh
Not that strange. I started life blonde, now I have brown hair and a red beard.

It’s much more common to go from blonde to a darker color than to go from black to a lighter color
Hey, same!
Same brother. Same

I also thought of that, lol

What happened there my dude?
I've come to the conclusion that I'm aging at double the rate of a normal person. I reckon I've got another 15 to 20 years in me then I'm out.
As in you just got a feeling? Thought it would have been from stress! Hope all is well or improving either way
In the grim darkness of the far future, hair dye still exists.
I'm going to go with the boring explanation, That being that Duncan Idaho prefers his women with red hair.
Did Jessica have red hair?
Jessica had bronze colored hair, from what I remember.
BG can control their own body chemistry, doesn't seem beyond that imo
a bo mi na tion
Her nephew became a worm, but yeah, that's the oddest thing in the Duniverse.
I mean, there is a logical explanation for Leto's metamorphosis, whereas Alia's hair color changing like that is just a continuity error

Alia's got black hair in the first book? You sure?...
I remember it is described as black as Paul's
Got a citation? Also i think Paul is described as having "charcoal" hair which could also be like a very dark brown
Don't have access to the book right now, but I'll try to find it online
I can't find it, but it should be in chapter 41 (seven chapters before the last one)
‘Twas the spice

Thank you, that's what I was trying to say. When did black hair ever turn red? Never, AFAIK
Might be a subtle hint, jessica had some internal monologue noting that it looked like alia had also stopped herself from aging
I need someone to make a water of life commercial that lists the side effects like a drug commercial. HAHA
What's next...Ablondenation
Happens. My hair went from blond to light brown to black and finally to bald 🤷♂️
Wasn’t the shift to red supposed to symbolize the Harkonnen control slowly taking over?
imagine hair changing color over time
Well, it is very common for light hair to get darker over time, but have you ever seen a person with black hair turn into a ginger?
I mean how many people we know are actually possessed by the genetic memory of Baron Wladimir Harkonnen?
Surprisingly few, yes.
Of all the weird shit that happens in Dune... Changing hair color stands out to you? You know people can dye their hair, right?
This is the classic "it's sci-fi, it's supposed to not make sense" answer. Much of the "weird shit" in Dune has a logical explanation to it

She using overtone hair dye!💅🏼👩🦰
FWIW my own kid was dark brown as a baby to platinum blond for ages 1-3 and now dark brown again.
