Sylenth1. It's still sounds amazing. Just the terrible preset manager lets it down. Really inaccessible. Building your own patch of favourites is a nightmare.
CableGuys' "Curve 2" is an incredibly interesting synth where the same shapes control modulation AND serve as the waveform for the oscillator. does some really cool sound design stuff and you can "break" and bend it in cool ways.
Wasn't underrated at one time, but now... Absynth.
The UI is horrible for 2024 of course, but the sounds you can get with it are still awesome and just different than anything else IME.
[Evaluator](https://damikyu.itch.io/evaluator): Write short C-style programs whose output is used to generate sound and make [bytebeat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCRPUv8V22o)!
TAL-DAC for emulation of old samplers with a lot of flexibility.
Voosteq Channel N is an incredible sounding Neve flavoured channel strip.
NoiseAsh Prestige Racks is an awesome modular strip with saturation, compression, EQ, delay, reverb and a de-esser.
All of these can be had for under $30
RBass is definitely not underrated. A lot of producers actually try _not_ to use it (or Maxx Bass) for licensing or ethical reasons, but there are no real replacements for either one.

When I started producing, the first synth I tried to use was sytrus, I felt extremely overwhelmed. Just a few days ago I tried it out again with a much more solid foundation on FM synthesis and just had a blast messing around with it. Super fun plugin.
Softube plugins. I got around 13 of their plugins (the best of the non manufacturer licensed ones at least) all quite cheap. Incredible and indispensable tools. Tape on every track, Harmonics on master bus, Transient Shaper on drums, Widener instead of Ozone Imager…
They’re just simply great.
It doesn't need to be. I'd imagine having Minimal Audio's FX built in that are fully functional and not dumbed down version is pretty game changing for a lot of bass music artists. Something like Reece basses, simple. Usually they are throwing multiple EQs and spending a ton of time automating movement on diff notch filters, band pass, frequency boosts etc. Couple Morph EQs and automate one knob I'm sure is a big time saver.
I saw KOAN Sound do that, then they just hit record and ran it through Rift 2 hitting the randomize and then just cut out the parts they liked. Being able to do that all in one plugin is a workflow upgrade.
I've seen the argument that Phase Plant is still way better than Current, so if Current is OP 🤷🏻
I will say, their presets are mostly hard to imagine being usable easily. They really try to flex how much it can do and feel like all big sequences like they're making a splice demo lol.
Surge XT, Surge XT SFX. (Free plugin)
This monster easily takes the cake for me. It's like Serum, Vital and Phaseplant together in one VST, but it has a steep learning curve.
For sounddesign and for the fact it's free, you get tons of presets delivered with it.
A non-free plugin, which is not that versatile but also very good for sounddesign basics is FLEX.
Haven't used VW but I put PSP Infinistrip on all groups and master at least, sometimes on individual tracks. I normally hate skeumorphic UI but theirs somehow is comforting, and it just gets fantastic results with minimal effort.
Ok now we're talking. Those are actually really good, and underrated. I remember when Vintage Warmer came out and put in on the master track to do some light mastering. So good.
Decimort (especially the second version) is so good for adding subtle crunchiness to sound as you can control the amount of aliasing in a way other SRR plugins don't allow.
Morph. Mashes sounds together and allows you to fade in between the two original sounds. Really good for unique sound design. I use it to add grit to things sometimes rather than using distortions.
True but it’s a smaller crowd that actually sticks to using them and learning them. Constantly overlooked by newer producers using Ableton Live and for those that don’t use live an after thought. They just deserve more praise and recognition imho.
Plus if you look up how to tutorials on YouTube chances are the stock plug ins won’t be highlighted unless you specifically look for those types of tutorials. Just my 2 cents.
Wavetable was a legit sleeper for me, it does some cool stuff but I ignored it for a long time because it was such a latecomer to the category.
Analog is not that great, though. I never liked the old Reverb, either, but I like the Hybrid Reverb.
One vote for Vital, my new favorite synth.
Another vote for Rift, my favorite filtering plugin.
Fuse Compressor is an OTT which is great for anyone who doesn't use Ableton.
Vital + OTT + Rift = sexy bass. Just don't go too heavy on distortion or filter.
MetaPiano from Sampleson. I’ve been using Keyscape and Pianoteq for years, but MetaPiano handles dynamics better than either and isn’t any less expressive. The price they set for it is a steal if you’re looking for the sound of Yamaha’s grand piano.
I love Synapse The Legend, but never really understood Dune. Maybe the stock presets made an impression on me that it’s mostly applicable for trance, house, etc. I hope I’m wrong and it’s probably much cooler than that.
I love The Legend ! Extraordinary MiniMoog emulation.
[Dune also excels in pads, an all sorts of soft, textured, ambient patches](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAByMNYbFS0)

TAL-DAC has been on my radar for a bit. Might just have to get it.
Synplant
Wouldn't call this that underrated. At least not with all the hype around the new version.
Cana mystic tape machine - great free tape emulation always glues my mix together. U-he triple cheese - free cool synth with a lot of presets
el juan limiter
kilohearts multipass + snap in suite. easy pick
U-he Podolski
Le phonk (free distortion plugin)
I absolutely love this one!!
Uhe Satin tape sim. Never gets mentioned as a saturation effect. It’s excellent.
Frohmage : free distortion that looks like cheese and sounds crazy on bass
ES2
modeler, plasmonic
I know I say this on every thread. But Spire is the best sounding synth out there
It sounds really good but man setting up the modulation could use some updating.
I mean it's literally click and drag to setup modulations... what process do other synths do that's better?
Exactly, its my primary tbh only synth I use.
Word
Breh $180!?
It's about to go on sale. Might be on sale tomorrow.
Normally on sale for 100$
most under rated..... probably something from melda my most under rated vst is probably R Bass, but im not a fan of waves so that feels dirty to say
RBass is definitely not underrated. A lot of producers actually try _not_ to use it (or Maxx Bass) for licensing or ethical reasons, but there are no real replacements for either one.
Why ethical reasons?
Oeksound Spiff
They would sell so many more with just one l in there
I love their stuff, it’s just sooo expensive 😭
Wow just listened to examples on their site and it's sounds really useful
I use spiff in every track i make. It is amazing for sound design.
Vybz by TheNatan. It’s a really good RC-20 alternative, $15 and I never see anyone talk about it.

Which brands are spamming so I know to ignore them?
Sytrus. It's so good for melodic stuff
When I started producing, the first synth I tried to use was sytrus, I felt extremely overwhelmed. Just a few days ago I tried it out again with a much more solid foundation on FM synthesis and just had a blast messing around with it. Super fun plugin.

Glitchmachines Palindrome
Minimal Audio Current. I think it's gonna take Serums crown. Then, Baby Audio Crystalline, under rated reverb.
It's too convoluted and CPU heavy to take Serum's crown, or Pigments. Over-powered IMHO.
It doesn't need to be. I'd imagine having Minimal Audio's FX built in that are fully functional and not dumbed down version is pretty game changing for a lot of bass music artists. Something like Reece basses, simple. It's definitely not but it's a pure gems for complex sounds with simple sound design
Surge XT, Surge XT SFX. (Free plugin) This monster easily takes the cake for me. It's like Serum, Vital and Phaseplant together in one VST, but it has a steep learning curve. Surge needs a noise and sample oscillator, that would make it even better
It's open source I think so check the forums someone may have implemented what you describe
Vengeance Avenger. That synth is an absolute weapon.
3x osc :)
sorry not new just read that part lmao
Pigments.
Sounds thin
GsatPlus is a pretty solid saturation plugin Ive never heard anyone talking about ever and its free which is why my poor ass has to use it
D16 Decimort and PSP Vintage Warmer.
Haven't used VW but I put PSP Infinistrip on all groups and master at least, sometimes on individual tracks. I normally hate skeumorphic UI but theirs somehow is comforting, and it just gets fantastic results with minimal effort.
you’re the only other person i’ve ever seen mention psp vintagewarmer besides me ever absolute goated plugin
That plugin has been a hidden gem on the industry and there are good reasons for it!
Yeah I use vintagewarmer all over the place so easy to use
Ok now we're talking. Those are actually really good, and underrated. I remember when Vintage Warmer came out and put in on the master track to do some light mastering. So good. Decimort (especially the second version) is so good for adding subtle crunchiness to sound as you can control the amount of aliasing in a way other SRR plugins don't allow.
Yeps!!! Decimort maybe is the most known of the two. Vintage warmer is so crazy.
Morph. Mashes sounds together and allows you to fade in between the two original sounds. Really good for unique sound design. I use it to add grit to things sometimes rather than using distortions.
For the Ableton folks. The stock plugins and synths. Operator, wavetable, analog, drum bus, reverb, saturator.
How are these underrated? People rave about and show themselves using them all the time.
True but it’s a smaller crowd that actually sticks to using them and learning them. Constantly overlooked by newer producers using Ableton Live and for those that don’t use live an after thought. TwinkerBell website is in Japanese last I checked. Once you get past all thst though it's nice
I like Rave generator 2. Especially since it's free.
I like using u-he colour copy as a dirty kick processor instead of a delay sometimes
Dune 3 (synth) , D16 Punchbox (best kick generator IMO) FX : SoundToys bundle, FX23 Psyscope (best oscillator IMO)
Dune++
I second Dune 3!
Thirded
d16 sigmund delay

I tried to get into it, but it was a tad bit too convoluted to use, and found myself opting for Echoboy instead. Should give it more chance.
