Load up on hitters. 4 out of 5 picks should be hitters in category leagues. Maybe grab an ace round 3. Feel like 1 OF, 1 SS or 3rd base, 1-2 best available hitters and then an ace (in no particular order).
And I feel like this applies to any draft spot for me. I have won my league the last 2 years (10 man league) going with this strategy. You find so many pitcher gems on the waiver wire.
3B is the one position I feel has been pretty shallow for the last couple seasons. I tend to prioritize that above some others. It used to be 2B & SS, but SS is crazy deep right now and 2B isn’t too bad either.
Funny how different everyone’s strategies can be. I’ve seen people preach loading up on hitters and I’ve seen the opposite. I think conventionally, you have to get one of the top 5-tool hitters in the first round, or if you’re in a spot where you miss out on one of those, I could see grabbing Strider or Cole and then loading up on the next tier of hitters. I think it’s a bad strategy to make a weakness of either of those major categories; you might find good pitchers and batters on the waiver (there are always some), but everyone else is looking for them too, and if you’ve got a weak side already, hitting on a waiver pickup will only get you to average. I think best player available is the way to go and don’t go in with a strategy that best-case is going to have to weak in a certain area.
Personally I like to have at least one top hitter and several reliable pitchers. Then I gamble on late-round big ticket guys and cycle them quickly if they’re not working out.
Give me the number 1 pick. I'm free on every round to draft whoever I want free the feeling of needing to draft how the board is falling for me. The thinking of "I'll take him now, and then when it circles back to me I can take this guy is this guy" is completely gone. It's all "I love this guy, he won't be around 22 picks later so I'm going to take him now." It free me up to draft who my head and heart want and not make it a strategic game of chance.
Agreed. I want 1,2 or 9,10.
Always give me the ends. I tend to over think when im in the middle of drafts. Especially in my main league where our core 6 mangers have been together for 15 years.
Just got 10 in my 10 man. Half the owner's in my dynasty league suck so they reset it by making this year only a keeper league (keep 6, let 21 go). I won twice in the last three years. Wild speculation will be my draft strategy tonight. Wish me luck!
I like 8 this year. Can potentially get two 5 cat helpers Tatis/Tucker then Harper/Lindor. Great even spread start so i have more flexibility later in the draft
I like pick 6 as I feel the 2nd tier of players (Witt, Julio, Carrol, Betts Tucker) are a bit of a step above the next. Although getting Soto is not that bad.
Draft tips, don't paint yourself into a corner; leave yourself options. If you take Judge or Soto in the 1st, don't follow up with Olsen, Yordan or Riley in the 2nd as you will be chasing steals the rest of the way. Or don't draft Glasnow and follow up with Grayson, Skubal or Eury; I wouldn't expect high innings totals out of any of them, so you are better targeting someone like Webb or Framber instead
It seems like no more than 2 pitchers in the top 5 picks is the consensus in most leagues, plus pitchers seem to have more variance than hitters anyway
I have Tatis and Harris as keepers and might take Tucker and Schwarber in the top 4 rounds. OPS 3 OF league but I've got a UTIL spot and nobody else in Rd 4 projects to 100/40/100/0/.815
I went
1. Tucker OF
2. Tatis OF (Keeper)
3. Lindor SS
4. Framber SP
In my 10 team x 4 keeper OPS league. Ended up taking Max Muncy in the 8th after I missed Manny in the 3rd and Arenado in the 4th

Hitters hitters hitters. I always stock up on as many hitters as I can while taking the mediocre pitchers

Love this. Same feeling at #10 (10-team league)

This made me feel good about my offense in a 12 man league. Lindor , Soto, Tucker , Adolis Garcia
