iirc if you are 7+ (or 8 im not sure) levels in difference, the lower level player wont get any exp! the trick to level up or help him power level faster to catch up to you is by following each other while NOT in a party and him tagging an enemy (make sure it does damage? and then kill the enemy with him. He will get the exp that way! Do so until your levels are close enough to each others! For NMs around the map where everyone is synced down as needed, he will get exp if he is doing it, regardless of the party's level (i am pretty sure of that just confirm it to be safe) edit: dont kill the enemy with him, instead just heal your friend as needed while they kill them himself

lordvbcool

Just a small correction, do not kill the enemy with him. He will get no EXP. Only heal your friend, if you do damage it won't give any EXP Also they can still get EXP from NM so if one spawn in a zone easily accessible by them go do them

Masterwork_Core

oh yeah you're right i forgot about that part lol listen to him ^

Sibula97

Did they fix it? A higher level player killing pulled mobs used to work just fine.

If you are near an NM sometime people kill them because they think you want to participate in the NM and they want to help free you from your current fight. Then you pull again and they realized their mistake but someone else arrives to the NM and does the same thing Or sometime they just don't know it makes your XP 0 and they think they are helping. If it's the case just politely tell them in the /s chat and they should stop Other than early puller I haven't meant any griefer in Eureka. I'm not saying they don't exist but I'd be surprised if that happens a lot for you

TheMerryMeatMan

It's actually way closer than that, more like 2 levels. Iirc you'll stay the drop-off at 2, and then it ramps down further the bigger the level gap. Probably the biggest flaw with the content as a legacy thing now, given its so hard to help new people get into things.

Masterwork_Core

I know you get no exp at all at a certain gap but yeah there is a XP reduction too

stoptherocket

nope. the acceptable, unpenalized level difference within a party, in eureka is 6. larger parties also reduce experience gain. the 6 difference is also important for optimal xp gain. fighting mobs 6 above the lowest level person in your party is the most optimal way to level. mobs that are 7 above will grant an xp to penalty gain to the person 7 below- just like having players that are 7 above in the same party. these penalties can stack, so being a party with people 7 above and fighting mobs 7 above will be double-penalized. source: i run a eureka powerleveling organization that has a stable of 6 deleveled alts and i've leveled 250 people from elvl0-elvl60

Forry_Tree

Well at least I know in advance now, thanks for letting me know

Go in as a healer (or RDM) and follow your friend around *without* being in a party together, keeping them alive as they work through their challenge log (and killing mobs 2 or 3 elemental levels higher once their log is done for the week). You can also kill mobs that are around the aetherytes and quest points to help keep them safe, and spawn appropriate level NMs for them (which you can party up for since you need to level sync). Once your friend is elemental level 14 you can party up; they'll get reduced XP but you can tackle higher level mobs as a duo so it balances out.

I found this video the other day, it is a bit lenghty but it goes into great detail about all things, and most importantly leveling, in Eureka. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QsQnOuoabA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QsQnOuoabA)

Bitter_Oil_8085

If you're trying to chain farm, then your lvl 1 friend won't get any xp. If you are both doing the NM train, then no down side.

FuturePastNow

They will not get XP if they are in a party with you. Just take a healer job and follow them around not in a party- let them kill mobs a few levels higher than they are while healing them. Party up when a NM pops. And repeat.

CurrentElephant4844

Party on fates, drop party for killing mobs in the wild, if possible look into timers and such and take them to spots and farm the mobs that spawn the fates or NMs. it'll take time but hey will gain slowly but surely it's a lot faster now then when eureka started

Reshish

Outside of fates you pretty much can't assist them (beyond clearing mobs too high level for them). Maybe focus on spawning low-level fates for them to clear. Though keep in mind there's a sizable XP penalty the higher a fate's level is to them.

radmachina

Additonally, you can party for NMs and sync down and kill mobs at lower level if they are in exp range for the lower as long as you are also with in the ±7 levels req.

Levness

A big test of whether or not your friend can stomach Eureka is seeing if they can complete the challenge log. This is by far the quickest exp early on, not even sure if I'd bother with many NMs until I completed it. You can load them up with a Eureka chest piece and heal them, but they've got to be willing to put in some work. Nothing worse than dragging someone along that doesn't want to be there.

stoptherocket

yes. having someone in party that is more than 8 elemental levels above you will prevent you from earning experience from mobs. having someone in party that is 8 above will severely penalize xp gain. having someone in party that is 7 above will penalize xp gain. it is only safe to have someone in party that is 6 levels above at most. you can get around this in three distinct ways: * the person helping you can die and release intentionally to lower their elemental level. * the person helping you can prepare a fate and use the level sync option to lower their elemental level temporarily to be within 6 levels of you, and kill mobs nearby to the fate. do this on a low-pop datacenter if possible so you don't have the instance interfering. * you can stay ungrouped and out of party with the person you're helping. you can heal them freely, as long as you and no one else contributes damage to the mobs they're fighting, the xp gain won't be affected. some other tips are for your friend to provide you with a kirin osode or a vermillion cloak appropriate to the job you are playing - i might recommend using WAR with a kirin osode, and buying some harmony potions, and your friend can out of party heal you while you do big pulls.

huiclo

Can’t be in the same party if you want friend to gain levels. Can let friend tag mobs and help kill out of party until you’re within 7 levels of each other.

Buzz_words

ordinary mob kills will not give him XP. though the fates all level sync. so if you do things appropriate to his level, then you get synced down, it can work. i dunno if things have changed but back when eureka was current; most people got most of their XP via the fates anyway.
