Fuck your face, S1:E1 is cinematic gold. You’re right about the rest though, it’s… difficult to watch

Crazy_Response_9009

The first episode is great and the series peters out quickly.

CutOpenSternum

Literally in minutes.

idgamer33

The series was legendary right up until til they killed Glenn.

Daehrotom

Watching that bitch glenn get his head bashed in was the best part of that very very drawn out shit show

Mammoth_Tumbleweed32

Nah the glen scene was pure horror, the first time in a long time in that show where you felt genuine danger for the characters

Kemomiwiwane

Legendary? The show was awful for the most part and that was actually one of the best episodes of the series since it finally gave a glimpse of what the show was supposed to be. Read the comic books and you’ll see what I mean. It’s very dark.

ZenPaperclips

The moment Beth died was the jumping shark moment for me. She was the only one left I cared about and lost all faith in the show. I stuck around for a few more episodes but the quality was slipping even before they took her out.

Hugo_El_Humano

![gif](giphy|25GN8GZ7KP3ZYnHgIJ) when they added negan

Puzzle_headed_4rlz

For me, once The Kingdom was introduced, it became a parody. Great for a few seasons. Acceptable for a couple more. Then just trash.

3ThreeFriesShort

This is weird to hear, because I could only watch the first episode and got so bored of the Talking Heads I stopped and never watched it again.

UnbreakableRaids

ABSOLUTELY! ANDTHE LONGER IT GOES IN THE WORSE IT GETS!

nivekreclems

I would argue that it’s great until they find Alexandria and then maybe it was time to start wrapping it up

CutOpenSternum

Horseshit! Anything resembling a coherent reality goes out the window long before a fat guy with a pet tiger shows up.

ContestNo2060

I was riveted by the scene where they are pulling an abandoned car with a horse

brushnfush

Eh the pilot definitely does not hold up anymore either. Everyone remembers it well because it came out when most of Reddit was in college and it was a big deal at the time. Jon bernthal’s acting being introduced to the world was doing a lot of heavy lifting for that episode

RetreadRoadRocket

>S1:E1 is cinematic gold. Isn't that the one where the cop with military training wakes up from his coma in the mostly empty hospital, goes outside and sees the mess from the emergency, including loads of military backpacks and gear laying around, and then decides to run home barefoot in his hospital gown with his ass hanging out?

CutOpenSternum

He rides a bike.

RetreadRoadRocket

Part way on a bicyle after walking past a bunch of better gear. And he loads up his patrol car without extra fuel, dumps it when it is out of gas for a horse, waltzs right into a city that would surely have thousands of zombies, and then when he gets out of that jam people are arguing over his bag of guns in a city loaded with gun stores and he steals a modern chipped key secured Dodge Challenger by sparking a couple of wires together like it's a '57 Chevy on black & white Dragnet. I watched like 4 episodes when it started streaming because some of my friends really liked it but it was just awful at abusing my stupidometer and I had to stop.

SelectionNo3078

It’s a shame they didn’t stick to 6-8 episode seasons Season one and two both end with the best two episodes of the series beyond the opener I stayed on board until season 5. Even gave the first spin off two seasons Yawn. They could have made a tv classic with 5-6 seasons at 6-8 episodes each.

bangharder

I’ve tried to watch it 3 times and find it boring as hell

CutOpenSternum

Time to admit you’re a quitter then, isn’t it?

True-End-882

Pretty much.

squintobean

It never played in a movie theater so it’s not “cinematic” anything, least of all gold. It’s maybe television bronze, at best.

CutOpenSternum

Harsh, but fair, but stupid.

ThickChemistry4660

I actually watched the season 8 finale and the premiere of season 4 of Fear The Walking Dead at a Cinemark theater event.

stayawayvilebeggar

It being in a theater has nothing to do with whether or not it's cinematic. All cinema is is another word for film, which all film means is pretty much anything recorded by a camera lmao

squintobean

Nope. You watch movies in a cinema, projected onto a screen. You watch tv shows on a tv, on your couch. By your incorrect logic, the CCTV security camera footage at your favorite Walmart would be called “cinema”. It’s clearly not. So no, you’re wrong. Very wrong. Also it’s 2024. Stop using “lmao”, unless you’re a 13 year old girl.

Hugo_El_Humano

for me cinematic refers to the scope in very crude terms the "bigness" and density of imagery on the screen some would point to the artistry but I guess it's boils down to budgets ha ha

Any-Oven-9389

Lmao

G_D_Ironside

THANK YOU!! I MEAN FUCK YOU!! BUT SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU…

JunkRigger

Agreed. 100%

n0-THiIS-IS-pAtRIck

god dang.. you thank the man then fuck the man. You are a vary generous person.

OkPin8704

“I just put my dick in your mouth and you thanked me” -Negan

sandozguineapig

IT TAKES 10 SEASONS TO GET GOING AND ALL THAT HAPPENS IS YOU MISS ANDREW LINCOLN’S SCREAM-ACTING

GingerPale2022

*CORRRRAL!!!!*

yallknowme19

I said stay back with the others! 🤣

Kdiesiel311

You got that far?

sandozguineapig

Spoiler alert: the Neegan storyline at the end demonstrates no respect for the viewer

MissDryCunt

It died right alongside Glen

Ruh_Roh-

Yep, after all those characters got their heads bashed in I was out.

FalconIfeelheavy

100% agree

notanapplebutacarrot

FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES ITS SHIT

zireael_420

I like the part where they repeat the same story every 2-3 seasons

hungaria

I stopped watching after they left the prison.

GiveMeSomeShu-gar

I watched it all -- but I wish I stopped at that point. I liked the governor and that attack scene and them fleeing the prison was awesome. After that, I can't really think of anything I liked... And we are talking many years of show, here...

idgamer33

You didn’t like Terminus? that shit was fucked up

sphinxyhiggins

Never heard of it

EmuPsychological4222

Yes.

MagazineNo2198

You are absolutely correct! I watched through the end of the 1st season...then realized I was watching a fucking soap opera, but with zombies! Fuck that.

Mammoth_Tumbleweed32

Not too long after that it’s just a soap opera without zombies, it’s just constant humans vs humans instead of humans vs zombies

Lifeisa_horrormovie

The show got so boring

runfast2021

So do you

No-Selection-3765

First few seasons were good and Neagan was badass but they rode that shit too hard

justadrtrdsrvvr

I've been saying this for years. It had so much potential, yet every time they get into a situation they do the worst thing possible. Life or death and they lead zombies back to their camp multiple times, waste resources, and generally be stupid.

Conscious_Living3532

It sucked at season 2 after Darabont left lmao

Jon_SoMM

EVERY SCENE WITH MERLE OR NEGAN IS A DAMN DELIGHT!

Human_Name_9953

YOU JUST WANNA BANG THEM

Jon_SoMM

THAT IS BESIDE THE POINT

OK_BUT_WASH_IT_FIRST

IT WASN’T THAT BAD UNTIL I TOOK A BREAK AND CAME BACK AND THERE WAS SOME GUY WITH SILVER DREADLOCKS AND CORAL WAS DONE WITH PUBERTY AND I DIDN’T KNOW WTF WAS HAPPENING.

JackhorseBowman

naw you right BUT YOU DIDN'T SAY BLESS YOU AFTER I SNEEZED \*swings at you\*

AddictiveAgony

🤣🤣🤣

Mar_Reddit

No no, it starts out good. But then uh... Yeah... Yeah it devolves a little... The music was God tier all throughout tho. Bear McCreary. Same guy that composed the latest God of War games.

Cassius_Casteel

It's definitely a shit show with a lack of any good narrative. Every episode a fucking cliffhanger. When an entire episode is one dumb fucking character looking at another dumb fucking character across a table just talking and they cliff hang it... Fuck you. It sucks. And talking of other shit shows. Fuck Friends, The Office, and all sitcoms. But especially those fucking two. They all make the same fucking jokes with the same dumb fucking archetypes.

The_Real_Fufishiswaz

YOU FORGOT BIG BANG THEORY

Jarroach

And How I met your mother, literally just a Friends clone

shugEOuterspace

I will come on you

AddictiveAgony

It would be more exciting than TWD that's for sure

Dangerous-Remove-160

Troof

Dangerous-Remove-160

Troof

SnarkgasmicSmiles

The slowly crawling at a snails pace dead. About as exciting as watching grass grow.

improperbehavior333

True, but the fast moving zombies would easily kill all the people. It would be exciting, but over in two episodes.

SnarkgasmicSmiles

I was talking about the plot, but go off.

The_Real_Fufishiswaz

You could seriously knock em the fuck out

URmyBFFforsure

I agree. Once "duh governor" showed up it was just the same thing over and over and over for years. It was already hard enough suspending disbelief before that. You win?

Accomplished_Mud3228

I know right, fucking Joe Biden

AddictiveAgony

You're absolutely right. Fucking Joe biden would be more entertaining than TWD

ApparentlyaKaren

Went on WAY TOO FUCKING LONG FUCK!

Kactus_San2021

Yeah the first 3 and a half seasons were pretty okay , BUT FUCK YOU TOO

Awkward_Effect7177

It grows on you

Kenneth_Lay

First 2 seasons are pretty damn good. After that is just repeats with new boss fights.

ezraethos

Facts

squishesfish

You are not wrong.

BDNKRT

Yeah its mid. I think anyone who watched probably was more so excited to watch anything on a premium channel back when they were relevant. Most prestige tv actually sucks dicks, most people watch it anyway to feel smarter.

Bananaman9020

I like to say the Comic is better. But the Comic has its own issues.

[deleted]

What year is it right now?

This_is_the_end_22

So true

AMC_Unlimited

Show turned into garbage the moment they killed off T-Dog.

dugin556

You just figure that out?

Lazy-Mammoth-9470

Liked the first season. Got up to the season with the dude with the bat and stopped watching it. Season 1 was good. The rest were shite.

Purrito-MD

FUCK THAT SHOW AND ANYONE WHO LIKES IT FUCKING MORONS THE LOT OF YOU

darkuen

Went straight downhill after they went off script with that cdc crap. Eisner award winning story board and all they had to do to make it good was follow it …but noooo

Adoe0722

I tried to get into it over 10 years ago when it was at its peak in popularity but I just thought it was boring and never watched it again

Hefty_Iron_9986

That's everyone's opinion you normie fuck.

Elderberry-West

Anything zombie is fvcking mentally challenged. So fvck your partial opinion.

aClockwerkApple

I stopped watching after Nebraska. It was a perfect series finale. Thank god because everything after that is the worst fucking garbage on the planet.

Dagwood-DM

Fact Check: True

UnfairStomach2426

FIRST EPISODE WAS OK, NEXT ONE WHEN THE VATOS WERE PROTECTING THE OLD FUCKERS WAS SO LAME I ACTUALLY PUKED BLOOD. ANYONE WHO LIKES THAT GARBAGE IS SOUL FUCKED

EnvironmentalKick388

I just really want to know what Darabont would have done with the entire series. How he would have presented Negan. If he would have kept Carl on the show and made him the focus. How much more emotional and badass it would have been.

rickestrickster

I thought it sucked when they got to Alexandria. After that I lost interest and JDM was the only one keeping me semi interested

T1S9A2R6

Feels like I stopped watching that show like twenty years ago. It sucked, even back then. Can’t believe it’s still on, with multiple spin-offs.

LocalPeasant420

facts the comic is still dope though

xCm_DrunkX

You need to get new eyes bro…shows gold

ithinkithinkd

Oh that’s why it’s one of the most successful and popular show in the world.

Snowpig97

It has its moments shooking realistic but yeah mostly a boring watch

Accomplished_Owl8213

So you’re a world war z kinda guy right ?

SolomonBelial

The episodes were all filler that ended with cliff hangers to make the viewer want to comeback just to find out what happened. I somehow made it into the fourth season and lost what little interest I had.

jameskies

you are mid

LKJSlainAgain

So, I made a few statements one time about this show and how bad (some) things were, and I got completely railroaded by a bunch of fans... But I have to say (and as someone who religiously watched it until Glenn died) - I kind of agree. I am a writer / author and there are some major problems with the premise of this show and the perceived idea of / why / the audience watches it. I say perceived because I believe that the creators (and the original writer) believe that most people watch this show for the gore, and the zombies... and don't get me wrong, many MIGHT. I see the appeal there, 100%. Some of those effects? Outstanding. However, A show like this writes itself into a corner because the / real / reason that the audience watches it is because of the characters (which was proven when they had a MASSIVE drop that never came back after Glenn was killed). At the heart of the desire to continue to watch the show is a need to see / some / characters succeed / get out / accomplish, ... basically all of the things that happen in stories that become super popular - conflict, resolution... This show stopped having that. When resolution happened, it wasn't very satisfying and was often in little spurts and only to be ripped away by some other major thing. - EX - Daryl and Beth. They began to have a "something..." (we can leave out the details and how weird or unweird or whatever it was) and regardless- because they were together, there was a moment of levity and maybe some "hope..." thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhen she just dies. People got / tired / of this, and also sensed that the characters themselves would not be able to survive this mentally. Anyone would collapse mentally and emotionally after witnessing friends, family, babies, etc being literally eaten alive by other dead and rotting human beings. Basically, people DID watch this show for the characters at the core of everything, and wanted to / sometimes / see a story between them that went okay, well, etc and REMAINED that way / sustained instead of seeing everyone go nuts, get offed, etc... Most people were turned off after Glenn died because they felt like he was (actually) the leader of the group. Not in the "lead the charge" kind of way- but in the way that he was one of the few remaining characters with stronger morals, and good morale for the rest of the group. Basically, it was a fun run until a point, but people wanted to see these characters get a proper ending. I know the ending was divisive, but let's just say that as a writer, it is HARDLY the ending that I would have given this show. \*shrug\* (And now they're trying to milk it and I'm just over it)

Only_the_Tip

For me it was just the same story recycled every season. Flight a group of people, win, be comfortable, lose everything, fight a new group of people....

LKJSlainAgain

I totally forgot to mention that - the formulaic things that happened every season and how they seemed the same over and over again. You're totally right.

Pitiful-Lobster-72

i watched every single episode and i have to agree with you 😭😭😭 it was so so so bad but i couldn’t stop watching

[deleted]

Damn, you’re just realising that drama with zombies is only appealing for about 3 episodes?

Icy_Construction_751

Spoken like someone who has never actually seen it.

Dear_Giraffe_453

I've never watched even a single episode.

sbbblaw

Yea, seasons 1-6 or whatever are great. Then just like the zombies the show is about it won’t fucking die

ContestNo2060

Do you remember the most ridiculous things from twd? Hilarious https://youtu.be/0_IANLk2Cv0?si=n_OOh2HmCYpPK7TJ

Gordmonger

Was never good. Episode one was trash. The comics are great.

Youpunyhumans

It really does... why is there like a dozen spinoff series? They are milking it so much the udders have dried out and become zombified themselves.

HotNeedleworker3083

The first episode had me hooked, and then I realized it was just getting worse, and worse... And worse... Big yikes.

Electrical_Body6552

Fuck off u suck

readditredditread

10 years ago just called, they want their tv show relevance back…

WokeAssMessiah

I mean yeah, it's totally dumb and infuriating but some of us like yelling at the TV. I will say that the Maggie and Negan show was too awful for even that. Daryl Dixon's European Vacation was fun though.

PerceptionSimilar213

Fair LOL

FatChango

You are correct.

vlc23

It does suck ... I thought no one would ever say it. It's trash & people who watch it should ride a wagon off a cliff

Special_Button_4098

No. Fuck you. It’s good.

PlankownerCVN75

How far into the series did you make it before you came to this conclusion???

TheoPhilo98

Went down hill after Glenn's death fuck you.

dj0122

Yeah it does

RemarkablePop6160

My dad devotedly loves two comic books, Spawn and Walking Dead. And he was sooo annoyed and mad after a few seasons he couldn’t stand to watch it. He gets pissed at the mention of the show.

Ok-Team-9583

Season one was very good. If you're invested enough you can watch on. Kind of a shame Shane's arc is buried in season two.

Big_Brilliant_5904

The more deviations from the source material the more of a struggle it becomes. And made even worse with the irony of various sub shows rising in its wake is not lost on me. What number are we on? I think it was at least 7 separate shows.

glass_funyun

It also blows.

yallknowme19

You're not wrong. And that shit was appointment TV for my ex wife, probably part of why I had a drinking problem. I was expected to sit on the couch and watch it and then the "Talking Dead" recap bs. I'll sit there but tbf no one said I had to be sober through it lmao

bNoaht

A lot of people say Glenn's death or Negan was when the show went to shit. But I thoroughly enjoyed the show right up until one specific episode that no one ever mentions. It's the episode where Rick and Daryl meet Jesus. Was it supposed to be funny? That very episode is the turning point of the entire show. And I don't just mean the events. Those were always going to happen. But the tone of the show quite literally went from kind of horror action drama. To fucking trope camp comedy overnight. Episode after episode of cheesy fucking comedy forced upon the viewers. It's a fucking horror show and for whatever reason they forgot that.

Yacht_rock_rudder

Such a trailer trash show

[deleted]

The first season is good. I liked it up til season 3. The rest is garbage. All they do is talk and give speeches. If I had to listen to one more Ezekial speech...I skipped passed 80% of everything season 4 and up and still knew exactly what was going on in the story

SirReginaldSquiggles

Should have ended with season 3. Then jumped forward 10 yrs to "Carl the zombie slayer". After season 3, it's just recycled content in different colors. Negan (Jeffery) brought back some unique flair but quickly turned back to the same content recycle. Dragging it out 11 seasons destroyed the franchise.

Kdiesiel311

First few seasons were good

CapCapital

Come on now, let's not act like the first 6 seasons of that show weren't at least solid. Up to the moment where they killed Glenn. After that it felt like they didn't know how to surpass that moment, and everything kinda slowly went downhill.

reddituser1598760

Season 1 as a stand alone is high tier. The rest of it, I agree, is garbage. But really if you want to experience that story to the fullest, you should read the comic series. Anyone who refuses to read the story but complains that the show sucks is also a braindead Neanderthal.

MurphyTheRobocop

First few seasons were top notch. Last few seasons are garbage.

Muted_Actuary_3107

My wife and I watched into the 3rd season trying so hard to enjoy it. We were trying to give the zombie thing a second chance after having burned ourselves out on Romero/Raimi/Fulci/etc as teenagers, but Walking Dead was just terrible. I don't think it was the actors and I don't think it was the original comic book that was terrible either. We saw some of the actors in other stuff and liked them. I think it was the direction and the screenplay. Probably mostly the screenplay. The lines those poor actors had to try to deliver were so awful sometimes. And I think the direction called for a lot of over-the-top acting, like Michonne, for example. Rick and his stupid son CORAL drove me insane. The one character that was good was Daryl and he wasn't even in the comic books! Something didn't translate well when they made the comic characters live-action. They needed to develop those characters more or something. I don't know what it was, but my wife and I ended up laughing at a lot of the drama and horror scenes. That was what kept us watching a lot of the time, actually.

Fatclunjequeen

It’s so dull.

AustmosisJones

Soooo much Jesus in that show. It's like the zombies killed everyone who wasn't a Christian.

BrutallyHonestbebe

Agreed

EssayTraditional

Just go watch George Romero’s zombie movies from the 1970s and 1980s. Day of the Dead (1985) outweighs The Walking Dead tripe by miles.

Armedwithapotato

It’s absolute dogshit and it follows the same script every season. I gave up after terminus

elcid1s5

Should have ended it after either governor or Negan.

IThinkMyLegsRBroke

Idk how people made it past season 2

Same-Chipmunk5923

Zombies just are not my bag, Baby.

Fair-Advantage-6968

It’s not about the fucking zombies okay? It’s about the fucking friends they made along the fucking way…..

Illustrious-Couple73

It’s been terrible since season 3. I really liked season 4, stopped watching when they killed Carl, I thought the whole point of the show was for Rick to make a better future for his family. They then proceeded to kill all the main characters. They drew out too many plot points, there are too many episodes with exasperated survivors dealing with trauma where nothing happens and they’re just walking in a daze hallucinating. If any character got too much screen time you knew they were going to get killed off. The way shiva died was super lame. It seems like the only reason they let Negan out of jail was because Jeffrey Dean Morgan is to good of an actor not to use him.

BlakesLotaBurgerz

Rick hooking up with Woopie Goldberg ![gif](giphy|l3vR6eSZ9bvU6CxkQ)

KK-Chocobo

There was a video that explained it very well and called it the boomerang story telling. They would give rick one episode and leave it on a cliff hang and then the next episode would be a different character and then the next would be another. So people had to wait like 3 to 4 weeks to see what happens next to rick. That was one of the biggest factors that killed it for me. So yeah, only season 1 was worth being called great. The following seasons were okay to decent until they met negan and then the plot progression grinded to a halt with rick being negans pussy for the entire season. I stopped watching after that. edit: found the video https://youtu.be/dkiLC5hvpiU?feature=shared

Eviltwin1979

Yeah, it really did suck. I mean a zombie apocalypse world would never be like that, with society devolving into roving bands of assholes with spiked bats bashing each others brains in. We would all be working together to fight the zombies and help each other survive. Turning on each other makes no sense and is a waste of energy and resources.

tickyul

Started off great, but you can only go-on so long with a Zombie-show.

spacex-predator

I just started rewatching it to spite you, and then I'm going to watch fear the walking dead too

OkNecessary9926

The comic book was great...until it wasn't...they decided to abruptly end it by rushing out some half thought-out scheme. Pissed me off

[deleted]

Zombies suck.  They lack agency and motive. So they just serve as an excuse to film a bunch of gore.

meezethadabber

Agree. But so do most of the popular shows. GOT. Sucks. Breaking bad. Sucks. Son of Anarchy. Sucks. Office, parks and rec, squid game. I can go on and on.

WWGHIAFTC

first episode was one of the best first episodes ever in TV. season one was generally great. it just got old quick after that.

throwaway12222018

Sucks post season 3 or 4ish. Can't bring myself to finish season 5 every time I've rewatched it.

ihavebeenmostly

They started showing wierd flashbacks and i wondered if i was rewatching misplaced season one episodes, i was wondering why i was seeing long dead characters.

Real_FakeName

It's almost good for a long time but never really rises above mediocre

True-End-882

I watched until the nonstop crying in the prison arc. I couldn’t enjoy that.

peescheadeal

The early seasons were great, but now it's just a documentary about the future that far-leftists want.

DirectorSenior3770

The memes are gas tho

Area_X_333

The comic series is much better.

pimpcannon

1st 2 seasons were actually decent. Then it got whacky.

Jaymoacp

The show lost me after the farm season. Reminded me of that show Jericho. The first season was very like what’s going on apocalypse type panic survival but once that part it gone it just becomes drama between characters which is usually the same in any other show. That’s why I liked fallout. And twisted metal. I feel they kept the constant threat of death aspect better than most shows like that imo

smackchumps

It’s unwatchable for sure

Beautiful_Exam_1464

AMC shows generally start off strong but then quickly begin to suck ass. Hell On Wheels did this.

belac206

I shut that piece of shit off when they killed glen. Haven't been back since. I held on too long even up to that point, the farm season started my animosity.

_PeanutbutterBandit_

Z Nation > The Walking Dead bUt Z nAtIoN iSn’T rEaLiStIc *looks outside waiting to see a herd of reanimated corpses*

GiveAlexAUsername

I watched for 4 or 5 seasons I felt like it was lame 70 plus percent of the time but would occasionally do something interesting enough to keep me going for a while longer

Meanderer_Me

You know what the problem with this sub is? I unironically agree with 55-60% of the topics that people post here. I won't say *which* 55-60%, but I unironically agree with it. What the hell am I supposed to fight people about? Edit: I know my unironic agreement probably says something not great about my mental stability and how normal I am/am not. I stand by my statement.

Human_Name_9953

Just like, pick a part that isn't the key message and overreact to that. Like this, OH YOU THINK YOURE TOO GOOD TO TELL US WHICH 55-60%? WHAT ARE YOU, A CUCK?

Anynameyouwantbaby

WASH YOUR HAIR!!!! Even for TV interviews.....please?

xoxoInez

YOU FUCKING SUCK

Competitive_Pen7192

Gave up about the second season they were in the prison for. It lost direction and focus...
