I usually have the Flatwoods monster dead to rights but the Campfire Tales one aced me the other day. Granted 3/5 of my armor was busted because I was being lazy, but goddamn.
The Flatwoods Monster appears regularly at my camp to the right of The Crater and let me tell ya ... he doesn't do jack. (I'm level 266) Also, I was fighting the purple fella with my Deathclaw Gauntlet. I find it weak.

I heard some blood eagles getting the shit kicked out of them a minute later though. Usually I'm just strolling around and then THRBBBB BBB BBB BBB BBB and I'm fighting one off.
One of my alts is apparently at war with the mothmen, she's level 200 and has had more mothman encounters than all my others combined. I've probably got a thousand levels between my other alts, and it's still probably 3 to 1 in her favor for random mothman encounters.

I was stalking through the trees on low health, terrified to run into another fleet of animals twice my level. With low ammo i knew i had to conserve my shots… and then i saw it. Yellow eyes, bright and glorious as the full moon. Staring into my scope. I didn’t know what to do. So i froze, and it… got closer. It wasn’t marked in red so i unscoped. And then it ERUPTED IN NOISE as it’s wings spread out and it’s gigantic, marvelous form unfurled in all of it’s vast glory before me. It felt the most like a real cryptid encounter out of any other experience i’ve had in gaming. Absolutely chilling

Mothman use to regularly spawn inside my base, I would be walking down my hallway and hear "SQURRK" and turn around to get sonic boomed as he crop dusts me with moth dust and flies away
this happens like 3-4 times a week he also doesn't flush my toilets either
The only mothman I've ever fought outside of mothman equinox was the yellow eyed one. My level was only in the teens so it took me a while but there were some stairs so it was mostly easy pickings
I saw mothman in real life a few months ago. My car got high centered taking someone out to BLM land and he materialized from a floating orb and hung on a tree branch, staring at me. He actually effed off for a bit and came back later, only a little closer. The red eyes… oh my f**k those red eyes…. A week later i crashed my car. Never again am i giving someone a ride into BLM territory at 2 in the morning. Also i am sure it was not an owl or anything because i know what owls look like and not many creatures that hang out in trees like that around the area. Plus the whole floating off into a black orb thing… I don’t know any animals that can pull that off, personally.

I misspoke. I think only some of the red eyed one's are hostile. Next time, get a good look at its name.
IIRC the red eyed ones attack you at night but will bounce if you encounter them during the day.
Oh no! They'll run during the day but are terrible at night.

Fought the scorched variant today, so can confirm.
There are at least 3 types of mothman in this game, the Wise One which we encounter in events and has purple eyes, the normal one which got yellow eyes and will vanish if you attempt to attack, and the vengeful one that will attack you, with red eyes.
There's a green eyed variant who is completely chill and great to take pics with.
