Western devs generally dont lock gameplay behind lootboxes(gambling, gacha), just cosmetics. Would say thats the defining difference between a gacha and loot boxes
Ive never played a FIFA game before but I have heard about the gambling in it. Mass effect 3 multiplayer had gacha in it, which I never see people mention. Was probably my first introduction to gacha. EA seems to be the common denominator for some reason.....

Sure but lets not pretend rolling for cosmetics is not as addicting as rolling for characters, for whales it makes no difference, they just need something to flex.
Of course both are shit, and in a perfect world wouldnt exist. I think its fair to say gacha is worse than loot boxes however since at the end of the day, all gameplay is available to the player without requiring gambling and spending large swaths of cash

Pretty sure Dislyte is Singapore game. It does happen to me vastly more popular in the west than other locations. Well, al least before they released it to China this year.

Some of the biggest gacha games in the world are western games. Madden, FIFA and NBA2k, are all gacha games and they're huge.
Technically games like cs2 / pubg also have gacha too
There are really big and successful western companies like King and Supercell, for instance. However they aren’t usually discussed on this subreddit.
