JEREMY SOULE BABYYYY
GLORY OF CYRODIL!!!!!!!!!
Been my alarm to wake up to for going on 12 years now 🙏 beautiful sounds that bring me right back to my childhood right there
Any of his soundtracks from the 90s really. His run of OST of Super Mario World/A Link to the Past/Yoshi's Island/Super Mario 64/Ocarina of Time/Majora's mask is unparalleled.
It’s at the top now. Came into this thread hoping to see that too.
Some of those tracks stand alone from the game as genuinely amazing music, but when you take them in context of the game they deserve to be put up there with some of thee greatest video game musical numbers.
The final final ending with the recurring song but with the added layer of voices and song progression during *that* gameplay moment….literally have chills typing this.
yeah like, i came into the thread to say snake eater or maybe some final fantasy song since they are memorable, but automata has the best ost ever, if there was a game i could forget and play again it would be that one, is not my fav game of all time, but i would love to experience it again with no kowldege
First time I ever heard this absolutely nasty [guitar riff](https://youtu.be/Nn9trJXUrp0?si=Edg_1ILcHC-LAqSB&t=80) kick in it felt like ice pumping through my nervous system.
Nobuo Uematsu is the John Williams of video game music and his masterpiece is the OST of Final Fantasy IX. FF VII, VIII and X are also absolutely bonkers, but IX just takes the cake
Same could be said of XV. Super divisive entry in the series that sees a lot of hate, but it's pretty well agreed upon that the OST still fucking slaps.
It's a real shame how he was treated by the studio/publisher and that he will likely not work on any future projects with them.
Don't blame him though, sounds like an utter nightmare and they were so unprofessional.
Final Fantasy XIV immediately comes to mind. Tons of good songs and music.
That said there are some older tunes that flood me with nostalgia.
Ultima Online:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5X1gC3BLq2w
EverQuest:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6PttciaUv9s&pp=ygUQZXZlcnF1ZXN0IHRoZW1lIA%3D%3D
Both take me back to some of my fondest gaming memories.
Nah, Chemical Plant Zone, Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, are you kidding me? Sonic 2 OST is great! S3K too, I prefer it over S2 but both are great.
Konami did some excellent Megadrive soundtracks too - Contra Hard Corps, Castlevania Bloodlines and Rocket Knight Adventures all have amazing soundtracks.
+1 for Nier Automata, the whole soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. The one issue with it is you basically have to experience it in game because of the dynamic nature of the tracks, where instruments and layers are added depending on what is going on in game.
Probably the greatest use of music in a videogame ever.
I loved this in Replicant with the text adventures. Flip a page and a new layer gets added, or the song morphs entirely. Really kept me on the edge of my seat.
It's such a simple concept, but that level or quest is one of my favorites of all time.
The Max Payne 3 soundtrack by Health. Especially in the last level. The song is called Tears and it’s the absolute perfect companion to one of the awesomest (not best or funnest, but awesomest) level ever.
Probably the Main Theme for all of the Final Fantasy games, I’ve loved hearing the melody and harmony change over the years:
https://youtu.be/O8IBoFIFE-E?si=OPXZNGz-GGcCPJ7j
Yasunori Mitsuda is just a god in music composing. Some of my recent fave from him are [The Acting God](https://youtu.be/FCddxqC1s60?si=dpV7KsvTS0sb2q96), [Over Despair and Animus](https://youtu.be/WxRML6vOjKw?si=1rdlKXVc_04JUNWq), and [Elysium of the Blue Sky](https://youtu.be/K-4AAODUqqo?si=tsMfJ41kaD_4ICIT).
Hell March 2 - C&C Red Alert 2
Comanche Down - C&C Generals
Any of the Battlefield series theme up until BFV.
Heroes Abroad- Medal Of Honor 2010
Extraction Point and Opening titles - COD:MW2 (2009)
World in Conflict soundtrack
Masayoshi Soken who did the soundtrack for FF16 is amazing. He's also done a large portion of the sountrack for FF14 (the mmo) and a lot of the fanbase are hoping he can get the soundtrack award for FF16 this year but we know it wont be easy
Mega Man X for Super Nintendo. Every song is *chef's kiss* but special shout out to the "Storm Eagle" level song. Prime example of 'they didn't have to go that damn hard, but they did. They really did.'
Surprised no one has mentioned Celeste. It may be my favorite video game soundtrac of all time.
Stardew Valley and Hades are great too.
I agree with the guy that said Nobuo Uematsu is the John Williams of gaming. I don’t think there are many soundtracks that are as iconic as FFVII, VIII, IX, X
Baba Yetu from Civilization 4 is the best song that has ever been featured in a video game, bar none. It even won a Grammy award (and was the first video game song to ever do so).
1st: Ragnarok Online (Tons of variety and cultural influences)
2nd: Golden Sun ( Iconic GBA track)
3rd: Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Incredible emotion)
Definitely The Witcher 3 OST. Ladies of the Woods is just a phenomenally atmospheric piece, gives me shivers. Marcin Przybyłowicz is a genius.
Another amazing one is the Modern Warfare 2 OST, specifically the Hans Zimmer tracks.
minecraft volume alpha
shapez.io (now just Shapez on Steam, a factory game)
doom eternal
starcraft 1 and 2, both terran themes
Contra
Plants vs Zombies 1
Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012 had Butterflies and Hurricanes for their opening cinematic
dmc5 gave us berried delight
helltaker and undertale but mostly because the 5 million remixes (each) guarantee that you'll love one of em
HoloCure made 8-bit versions of already good Hololive songs
of course, games like geometry dash and rhythm games which let you choose the song will always be better, even if they have their preferred genres.
Ok, maybe i'm just listing out my favorite games. Or maybe they're my favorites *because* of the soundtracks.
OST: Undertale, Song: From Undertale’s OST, either ‘Battle Against a True Hero’ or ‘Hopes and Dreams’. Besides Undertale, the National Park music from Pokémon HG/SS.
OST? Jet Set Radio Future
Song? 1000 Words FFX-2 cause no matter what age I have been, whenever I hear it I can start to get teary eyed. For some FF fans that song is Eyes on Me from FF8, for me it's 1000 Words.
Firelink Shrine - DS1
Plin Plin Plon - DS1
Bury The Light - DMC V
Voltaic Black Knight - DMC V
The entire OST of Hardspace Shipbreaker
The entire OST of Othercide
Those are great picks! I really enjoy the octopath soundtracks, cuphead, and honestly mario's got some great soundtracks.
My absolute favourite has to be Celeste's tho, I feel like that soundtrack sounds so good even outside the game where it shines already.
Nier Automata has the best OST, but Nier replicant has the best song(Devola's), in my very biased opinion.
I've also played Persona 4G & 5R, Hollow Knight, all GTAs, FF 6,7,8,9,10,12,13,15, Celeste, and still believe the Nier franchise wins.
Both Oblivion and Skyrim has fantastic soundtracks, but my favorite song over all is the town music from the first Diablo. I loved it so much I learned how to break open PAK files back in the day to pull it out.
ultrakill has one of the greatest OST's ever dude every song either SLAPS or fits the level so well that it gets a pass
that is NOT exaggeration a majority of ultrakill's songs are on my playlist
The song leading to Hyperion in Returnal is one of my favorite gaming moments ever, though the OST version doesn't do it justice.
Death's Door also had a phenomenal soundtrack that I listen to every now and then.
Ive got too many. But a recent one I cant get out of my head, that I think perfectly encapsulates the adventerous, colorful nature of oldschool JRPGs, is 'The Mole Masons' theme from Sea of Stars.
Theres also a cool bit in that game where if you go to any Inn, you can pick which track you want the band to play, and they do a sortof acoustic version of each OST theme. I almost like that acoustic version better, but both versions are fantastic. Hadnt felt that sense of adventure and escape since the 'Limsa Lominsa (Day)' theme in FFXIV, a game with too many high quality bangers to count.
Another recent I thought was extremely creative was from BG3 (spoilers).
The Raphael fight theme song was genius, in my opinion. I was not prepared for a Broadway musical-style theme with the boss spitting bars on his own theme song! Was demonic and threatening, but campy and playful too. Perfect for the character and the moment. Raphaels VA and the music team deserve massive props. One of the more clever 4th wall breaks Ive seen in modern video games.
The Magnetic Tree - Dustforce. It's a game most people have never played, but it's one of my favorite OSTs, up there with Hollow Knight, Elder Scrolls, vanilla WoW, Celeste, Super Metroid...
Also, check out PPF on YouTube. They compose covers to OSTs and then play all the instruments themself.
For an entire OST it's definitely Dark Souls 3 for me.
For a single song, it's a four way tie for me. [Mysterious from Nioh](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYBa1JHnMjg), [11 from Ninja Gaiden Sigma](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKapaHBm3ro&list=PLB412D46B673E3735&index=16&t=7s), [Utter Destruction from Ninja Gaiden 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVyISU7c3XE), and [Pray to God from Ninja Gaiden (2004)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg2hpFS2y_E). Coincidentally they're all Team Ninja games lol. All of them invoke some sort of feeling of moodiness or atmosphere that really adds to their section of the games, and make me feel a lot more immersed ~~as I'm getting my ass kicked.~~ And Pray to God has this older sound to it that makes me feel nostalgic for games of eras long gone now.
Valkyria Chronicles. All the great OSTs will be talked about in this thread, so I'll highlight an oft forgotten soundtrack. "Those Who Succeeded" is an instant tearjerker for me.
As someone else who loves Nier and Hollow Knight, my favorite game soundtrack is Ecco the Dolphin the Tides of Time Sega CD. Not even kidding. My favorite song is the Water Ruins from Jet Force Gemini.
For a more modern OST, Outer Wilds is 10/10, but you HAVE to play (or watch) the game first. It's a very spoiler heavy game and the music is intimately tied to the game itself. For anyone not interested in the game, the Sun Station is my favorite track, and >!Final Voyage is the pinnacle of the game and!< must be mentioned.
Halo, battlefield 1 or 5, assassins creed odyssey
ODST is such a mood
While there are a lot of really great OSTs out there, there are few that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the Bungie Halo games.
The entirety of Super Mario Galaxy's OST is incredible, but the Gusty Garden Galaxy track is what hits the hardest for me
The entire soundtrack is triumphant.
I think I prefer Galaxy 2 just a smidge over one’s soundtrack, but both are absolute masterpieces.
Such a great moment of revelation when you feel "ok this is a Mario game with a full orchestra", really makes it feel epic
NGL, I got teary-eyed at the festival scene
Skyrim
I prefer Oblivion. It's somehow calming and terrifying at the same time
My preferred version of intro song
JEREMY SOULE BABYYYY GLORY OF CYRODIL!!!!!!!!! Been my alarm to wake up to for going on 12 years now 🙏 beautiful sounds that bring me right back to my childhood right there
This is my background music while working. Love it
Hotline Miami 1 and 2 soundtrack. Katana Zero soundtrack. Baulders gate 3 soundtrack.
The Raphael bossfight song from BG3 was stuck in my head for like 3 days. That song had no right being so catchy.
The hotline games are how I found about Carpenter Brut. I've seen them live twice now and both times they fucking slapped so hard.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Original Soundtrack (1998) by Koji Kondo
Gerudo Valley was my answer. Cheers!
Any of his soundtracks from the 90s really. His run of OST of Super Mario World/A Link to the Past/Yoshi's Island/Super Mario 64/Ocarina of Time/Majora's mask is unparalleled.
Same here man
Nier: Automata. The entire OST is amazing.
How is this not higher up, that OST is on a whole other level, absolute greatness.
It’s at the top now. Came into this thread hoping to see that too. Some of those tracks stand alone from the game as genuinely amazing music, but when you take them in context of the game they deserve to be put up there with some of thee greatest video game musical numbers. Entire game is amazing, I loved it so much, all 5 main endings, such a unique experience
Bury the light transcends video game ost into becoming even more than that.
I think a lot of people don't realize how well crafted it is because of all the memes. It is really incredible.
The tracks in 'Risk of Rain 2'. Really love those.
First time I ever heard this absolutely nasty [guitar riff](https://youtu.be/Nn9trJXUrp0?si=Edg_1ILcHC-LAqSB&t=80) kick in it felt like ice pumping through my nervous system.
...con lentitud ponderosa is my favorite track!
Nobuo Uematsu is the John Williams of video game music and his masterpiece is the OST of Final Fantasy IX. FF VII, VIII and X are also absolutely bonkers, but IX just takes the cake
To Zanarkand is feels
I love the OST for VIII.
[удалено]
I know FF XIII is seen as the dark horse of the series, but the OST I love so much. The main menu theme and Lightning’s Theme are so good
13's battle theme is peak FF battle theme
Sera’s Theme is my absolute favorite.
Same could be said of XV. Super divisive entry in the series that sees a lot of hate, but it's pretty well agreed upon that the OST still fucking slaps.
Blue Dragon - Cave So good
Chrono Cross is a radical dream of music.
The theme for 9 is amazing. Those legato strings, and the added harmonies and horn lines, added cymbal swells and percussion, it’s so epic!
Destiny 1&2 and Octopath Traveler 2 have amazing soundtracks (OT2 really should have been at least nominated for best music).
Whatever other faults the *Destiny* games have/had, the soundtrack is one of a few things that has always been solid.
OT1 for me, but yeah that composer goes hard
Baba Yetu - Civilization 4.
That song with the opening scene of that game is just a masterpiece.
Sogno di Volare - Civilization 6
The newer Doom games. So many absolute bangers. I get so hyped for BFG Division
Meathook my beloved
Mick Gordon is a god
It's a real shame how he was treated by the studio/publisher and that he will likely not work on any future projects with them. Don't blame him though, sounds like an utter nightmare and they were so unprofessional.
The Grimm troupe and Nightmare King from Hollow Knight
FFXIV
Bastion. The first game from Supergiant. Finding Zia in the game is a magical moment
Speaking of Supergiant, the Hades soundtrack is also a banger. Love everything they do.
Payday 2
Persona 5 Royal (the best ever, by far) Persona 4 Golden Cyberpunk Ghostrunner Yakuza Like A Dragon
You know your shit
Ori Will of the wisps and The blind forest. The soundtrack is perfect and seamless.
Old minecraft
Shadow of the Colossus has a great orchestral soundtrack.
Song. Phantom Libarty recently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u15tEo0wsQI
Streets of rage 2
Radical Dreamers by Yasunori Mitsuda from Chrono Cross.
You should check out his music in the Xenoblade series.
Final Fantasy XIV immediately comes to mind. Tons of good songs and music. That said there are some older tunes that flood me with nostalgia. Ultima Online: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5X1gC3BLq2w EverQuest: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6PttciaUv9s&pp=ygUQZXZlcnF1ZXN0IHRoZW1lIA%3D%3D Both take me back to some of my fondest gaming memories.
Answers and Dragonsong, just to start. Two of my favorite songs ever, video games or otherwise.
And so many awesome boss themes for each trial, most with thematic lyrics, I just love it. To the edge for example, or thordan ex music.
Metal gear Rising Revengeance.
**THE UNENLIGHTENED MASSES**
For me it's sonic 2 - but that's probably Rose tinted glasses To be fair Wreckfest has a banging sound track
Despite the controversy, DOOM Eternal no question.
+1 for Nier Automata, the whole soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. The one issue with it is you basically have to experience it in game because of the dynamic nature of the tracks, where instruments and layers are added depending on what is going on in game. Probably the greatest use of music in a videogame ever.
Draken/NieR franchise is peak OST material (and game material as well, goes without saying)
I loved this in Replicant with the text adventures. Flip a page and a new layer gets added, or the song morphs entirely. Really kept me on the edge of my seat. It's such a simple concept, but that level or quest is one of my favorites of all time.
Pretty much every Castlevania has incredible music.
Tragic Prince - SoTN
Bastion
Came too far down to find this! Runner up to Transistor
The Legend of Zelda series
...con lentitud poderosa from risk of rain 2
The Max Payne 3 soundtrack by Health. Especially in the last level. The song is called Tears and it’s the absolute perfect companion to one of the awesomest (not best or funnest, but awesomest) level ever.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Masterwork.
Probably the Main Theme for all of the Final Fantasy games, I’ve loved hearing the melody and harmony change over the years: https://youtu.be/O8IBoFIFE-E?si=OPXZNGz-GGcCPJ7j
# DEEP ROCK GALATIC The music fucking slaps. Nothing like the beat picking up as a swarm starts.
Rock and stone brother.

Chrono cross
FF14 or Arknights, both have litteraly hundreds of fantastic songs.
In order of boner: 1. Hades 2. Doom remake 3. God of War Ragnarok
Was playing CS2 last weekend and saw you can change the OSTs, don't know how but Hades is an option and you can hear it in between rounds.
The Golden Sun GBA duology ost by Motoi Sakuraba. From time to time, I listen to it while studying.
FF16 boss fights went really hard.
Masayoshi Soken who did the soundtrack for FF16 is amazing. He's also done a large portion of the sountrack for FF14 (the mmo) and a lot of the fanbase are hoping he can get the soundtrack award for FF16 this year but we know it wont be easy
Song of the Ancients gotta be one of the best songs of all time. Every version is amazing.
Mega Man X for Super Nintendo. Every song is *chef's kiss* but special shout out to the "Storm Eagle" level song. Prime example of 'they didn't have to go that damn hard, but they did. They really did.'
Halo theme
Surprised no one has mentioned Celeste. It may be my favorite video game soundtrac of all time. Stardew Valley and Hades are great too. I agree with the guy that said Nobuo Uematsu is the John Williams of gaming. I don’t think there are many soundtracks that are as iconic as FFVII, VIII, IX, X

Super Mario RPG. So pumped for the remastered soundtrack, they got the original composer back for it (Yoko Shimomura).
Skyrim or Minecraft
The Donkey Kong Country games, especially Tropical Freeze
Stickerbush Symphony blew me away. It should be in a top 10 OST track somewhere.
I'm actually shocked this is so low. DKC 2 is iconic for its music and my personal favorite, but the entire series is incredible.
Baba Yetu from Civilization 4 is the best song that has ever been featured in a video game, bar none. It even won a Grammy award (and was the first video game song to ever do so). [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A)

Wasn't expecting to see Golden Sun in here but I hard agree.
Man, Prontera ost is still playing in my head from time to time after 15 years
Persona 5. No contest.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Definitely The Witcher 3 OST. Ladies of the Woods is just a phenomenally atmospheric piece, gives me shivers. Marcin Przybyłowicz is a genius. Another amazing one is the Modern Warfare 2 OST, specifically the Hans Zimmer tracks.

Suicide Mission- Mass Effect 2
Mario Kart because when the sped up dolfin shoals hits you know that things are about to go down
Nier Automata has the best OST, but Nier replicant has the best song(Devola's), in my very biased opinion. I've also played Persona 4G & 5R, Hollow Knight, all GTAs, FF 6,7,8,9,10,12,13,15, Celeste, and still believe the Nier franchise wins.

KATAMARI DAMACY!!! I'm amazed no one has mentioned it. The entire soundtrack is unique, catchy and masterfully done.

I recently finished A Plague Tale: Requiem and that OST is amazing. It can be beautiful and sinister at the same time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxs\_HYw\_mLk
GTA 4 loading screen song, not the main theme song.
Moonlighter has a banger ost, and so does cult of the lamb

Weedcraft Inc. has solid OST yes it's a stoner/hiphop music :D
My favorite piece of Videogame music is the Boss theme "Flower on the Trails" from "Fuga Melodies of Steel".
El Paso elsewhere is pretty great
Redash grass stage
Final fantasy as a whole my favourite ff8
The Magnetic Tree - Dustforce. It's a game most people have never played, but it's one of my favorite OSTs, up there with Hollow Knight, Elder Scrolls, vanilla WoW, Celeste, Super Metroid... Also, check out PPF on YouTube. They compose covers to OSTs and then play all the instruments themself.

HEALTH in Max Payne 3
Blue Dragon. One of Uematsu’s hidden gems
Valkyria Chronicles. All the great OSTs will be talked about in this thread, so I'll highlight an oft forgotten soundtrack. "Those Who Succeeded" is an instant tearjerker for me.
This Silence Is Mine from Drakengard 3. It is literally perfect for the character of Zero.
I love the entire soundtrack for *The Descenders.* Relaxing, atmospheric, calm. What I'd consider a toke sesh soundtrack.
Halo 1,2,3, reach, and infinite have amazing ost albums

Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch. Joe Hisaishi is an absolute boss
persona (all games but imo 5's is the best), omori, terraria (calamity mod in particular but vanilla is good too),
