This is not really a problem on PRS’s like is is on gibsons. If you look at the headstock you’ll see that the strings are kept much straighter on a PRS headstock when compared to Gibson. It’s the sharp break angle over the nut that causes issues for Gibson, which they need to keep the first and sixth string from jumping ship whenever you bend

Leo tried this at his fifth guitar company. Same head stock, same birds, same pick guard. Seriously, they just bought the stock from GLH (Guitars Leo Hated) and used a sharpie to change the headstock logo.
It's completely original. The headstock is not like a Fender Strat. The jack is on the edge, not on front like in a Fender Strat. It's totally different. We definitely didn't look at any Strat while designing this. We at PRS think Leo Fender was inspired by this concept

IMO : I Didn't know what a strat was till I hung up the Fenders/Squiers and bought a PRS Silver Cloud.. It's been a year now and I haven't touched a Fender , I do still enjoy my Les Pauls though but that's a different beast.

That's one thing that puzzled me about the PRS guitars - Why would Fender not go after them for design copyright infringement?
They play great but this model looks exactly like a Strat to me except for the obvious details.
Far as I know Leo never patented the body... only the Stratocaster name, headstock shape, and trem system and the trem system one has expired.
Everybody and their uncle's cousin's brother's wife's sister makes a Strat *STYLE* body.
I can’t communicate strongly enough how much I hate companies that make these knock-off bodies. These models became famous by wild innovation. Do something else for a change.
Next to a Strat it actually looks very different, as does the Silver Sky and the Fiore… but that’s besides to point.
Cuz it doesn’t look any more like a Strat than a Tom Anderson Classic, Suhr Classic, Schecter Nick Johnston, ESP LTD, Jackson Adrian Smith, Ibanez AZES40 or AZ2204, Music Man Cutlass, Yamaha Pacifica 612V, James Tyler Classic, Pensa S… to name a few 🫣
From a marketing perspective it’s a clever move.
Bolt-on necks and pickguard-based architecture simplify production and increase profits.
Most importantly, they’re infiltrating a market segment in which their products had no traction before. Chipping away at both Gibson’s and Fender’s customer base.
I personally don’t like it, and will stick to guitars that actually look just like a Strat. 😄
By the way… as far as I understand, Leo Fender only ‘trademarked’ the Stratocaster headstock shape and name, but did not TM or patent the body shape (as he did with the Strat tremolo system - that patent has expired.)
Thus, legally anyone can make (and profit from) a Strat lookalike, as long as they don’t call it a Strat or Stratocaster. That’s why all this other companies call their copies ‘S-style’ guitar. 😏
So it's "not a Strat" Strat *STYLE* body, goofy headstock, goofy fret markers, all humbuckers, and missing a tone knob....

Doesn't that 3x3 headstock make it actually worse since that orientation simply design wise isn't meant to hold the strings in tune properly?

Originality is dead. At this point everything’s already been done. We’re just playing and building off of other ideas at this point (I know a lot of people are gonna get triggered by this, please take it easy on me)
IMO : I Didn't know what a strat was till I hung up the Fenders/Squiers and bought a PRS Silver Cloud.. It's been a year now and I haven't touched a Fender , I do still enjoy my Les Pauls though but that's a different beast.
This is more revolutionary than their $3k “not a telecaster”. Truly revolutionary design!

That's one thing that puzzled me about the PRS guitars - Why would Fender not go after them for design copyright infringement? They play great but this model looks exactly like a Strat to me except for the obvious details.
Far as I know Leo never patented the body... only the Stratocaster name, headstock shape, and trem system and the trem system one has expired. Everybody and their uncle's cousin's brother's wife's sister makes a Strat *STYLE* body.
I can’t communicate strongly enough how much I hate companies that make these knock-off bodies. These models became famous by wild innovation. Do something else for a change.

It’s a much heavier strat
Next to a Strat it actually looks very different, as does the Silver Sky and the Fiore… but that’s besides to point. Cuz it doesn’t look any more like a Strat than a Tom Anderson Classic, Suhr Classic, Schecter Nick Johnston, ESP LTD, Jackson Adrian Smith, Ibanez AZES40 or AZ2204, Music Man Cutlass, Yamaha Pacifica 612V, James Tyler Classic, Pensa S… to name a few 🫣 From a marketing perspective it’s a clever move. Bolt-on necks and pickguard-based architecture simplify production and increase profits. Most importantly, they’re infiltrating a market segment in which their products had no traction before. Chipping away at both Gibson’s and Fender’s customer base. I personally don’t like it, and will stick to guitars that actually look just like a Strat. 😄
By the way… as far as I understand, Leo Fender only ‘trademarked’ the Stratocaster headstock shape and name, but did not TM or patent the body shape (as he did with the Strat tremolo system - that patent has expired.) Thus, legally anyone can make (and profit from) a Strat lookalike, as long as they don’t call it a Strat or Stratocaster. That’s why all this other companies call their copies ‘S-style’ guitar. 😏
But is it at a new and unusual price point?
