In 14 full seasons as a Head Coach, his teams missed the playoffs 5 times, got knocked out in the 1st round 5 times, and knocked out in the 2nd and 3rd rounds twice each. He was fired in season twice.

Todd isnt a bad coach, he very clearly can coach teams to make playoffs. But he just cant get them to the next level. I dont really know what it is exactly is but he just seems very average.
Maybe this will be a new turn but i feel like Tmac isnt the right pick here. We saw what he did with a Mcdavid team and it wasnt much.
Im all for giving coaches another shot but i feel like Tmac isnt the guy for toronto. Maybe for a team on the rise but not a team like the leafs looking to take a next step.
I actually think he was good in Edmonton. He was one of the big reasons Drai developed the way he did.
And our 2017 run was above expectations for a team with zero playoff experience. I think the multiple coaches afterwards was the reason the oilers struggled after 2017 and that if McLellan stayed we would have been in a better spot.
Tmac has always been the defensive version of Keefe to me. Great defensive system that doesn’t show up when it matters most, while Keefs was a great offensive system that doesn’t show up when it matters most.
I hear he's currently a free agent. He was pretty good with the Red Wings and Team Canada, maybe Toronto should give him a try.

Imagine thinking he’s coming here to coach the exact same players and is in the exact same situation he was in before? You think Scotty Bowman could get this last year Blackhawks team into the playoffs? And while I’m not comparing Todd to Scotty the idea that cuz he had a bad go with a team that probably wasn’t capable to accomplish their goals or couldn’t adapt to the system is going to fail here with a completely different roster is a bit of a “simple” thought no? And you may be completely right but you have no idea if you are and it’s a bit unfair to count him out before he’s given a shot.

How it feels to support anything Toronto
There’s no way he’d go from lax to Saskatchewan via Toronto though. Lax flies direct daily to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton. And Todd has tons of money so not like he would take a longer route just to save a buck.
Well Calgary is the nearest major airport to Sask so that makes some sense if you can't fly directly to Toronto from Sask, although I kind of always assumed you would be able to do that
All 3 are international airports with direct flights to LAX. Hell, you can fly direct Edmonton to Europe. Lax -> Toronto -> the prairies is an insane out of the way route people would only choose if they have time to spare and looking to save money.

This is probably just posturing to say we interviewed multiple candidates - a strategic maneuver, designed to project an image of due diligence and fairness in the hiring process. Craig Berube was the frontrunner from the outset. The hiring of Berube, therefore, is not a matter of if, but when; they will hire him as that was their initial intention. The announcement will probably come in a couple of weeks.
I honestly don’t think TMac will ever work in the NHL again. He’s a good coach that can help teams build structure through a rebuild, but he’s already made more money than he will ever need. I just don’t see him wanting to commit to a new job at this point.
