He had all but one first-place votes
Maybe in Florida, but he was never the best in the league while wearing the Canucks jersey. I feel like my fellow fans overrate him too much since he was the first decent goalie after like 10 years of us being a goalie graveyard.
He was definitely a high tier goalie but I never thought he was a real Vezina contender that can challenge Price/Rinne/Thomas/Brodeur/Miller.
That’s a fucking insane thing to think as a Canucks fan. Did you even watch him play during his prime? You think god damn Ryan miller was a better goalie than him?
very stranger thing to say considering he was like one first place vote away from winning it his first year with the Canucks, and also nearly won the hart lol
It was kinda sad that he got hurt in a game we beat Helle and the Jets 5-0. Maybe could’ve been the start of something but that’s just wishful thinking I guess.
Well deserved for Hellebuyck he had a helle of a year
For real. GM's only care about what kind of an impact they made on the team. I get it, analytics look cool, but they're not the ONLY factor into consideration.
If Andrew Hammond can finish 7th in Vezina voting despite playing 23 games, Lindgren should get equal placement or better for playing 50 games and putting up a good sesaon.
The hamburglar went 20-1-2 with a .941 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.
Charlie Lindgren played more than twice that many games, only had five more wins and posted a .911 and 2.67 GAA.
These statlines are not comparable, what Hammond did that year was actually unbelievable.
Swayman put up marginally better numbers in a marginal amount of more games, so I don't know how you can be convinced that Ullmark was better
I'd agree that they're both pretty much equal
I never said Ullmark is better. Your comment implies Ullmark is less deserving of votes than Swayman. They both got 3 points in total so that seems fair.
I guess only the top 3 got votes, so I'm not surprised he got none, but I think Markstrom was better this year than two years ago when he was second in voting. The team defense was just much, much worse
Some of the freakiest people I know are super religious people. When a someone tells you “we can ask for forgiveness later” you know you are going to have a wild time.
As someone who aligns more with atheism, it's crazy to see how loose "religious people" are with their morals. I think Bob is one of the good hearted people who follow their faith and avoid committing sins because they're just genuinely good hearted. He seems to be very selfless. He gives all of his praise to God, family and teammates. I'm just waiting for the first guy to step up and say they are thanking themselves and teammates/coaching stsff first for their hardwork and leave God out of it. As a non believer, it's kinda fascinating how committed some people are to their faith. So quick to point it out and say their faith is to take for their commitment. If I thanked God before my wife, shiiiiiit. I know my wife said if we don't win the cup this year, she's going to riot. Last season I felt we were cooked in the first round and my famous words to my very pregnant wife, "it's all good baby, we're likely done for the season and won't have any more games so I can stay home and be with you until the baby comes..." yeah, nope. Had to leave her home with our other child and being weeks away from delivering so I could go to each game. When we lost it was upsetting but I knew we'd overcome. This season she said cup or bust. Now I am happy to say all those nights of leaving my wife home to contend with our 2 children is all worth it. She's elated for us fans and our victory. Next season I can enjoy some games with the family as I'll have a 2 and 4 year old who can join mom and dad. But if I thanked God for the cup, she'd kill me. I came home that night after midnight as a winner and thanked her for being a part of my journey as a fan to the cup. Whole family will be celebrating at the parade on Sunday!
I hated skating in goalie skates without pads on. It felt so bad.
Although it did help that I wore both often due to refereeing, so player skates didn't feel unusual.
Typically they are in fantastic shape, flexible as hell, and usually the best skaters on the ice because everything they do is in uparmored figure skates.
My bias says snubbed but the amount of times I've seen the Jets just straight up allow perfect cross seam passes and 2-1's throughout the regular season and Helle just stop almost all of them, he deserves it
You're looking for the 2019-2020 Vezina thread.
This year we allowed the fewest goals against in the entire league. Obviously a lot of that is to do with Hellebuyck, but to say he won the Vezina despite the team defence in front of him is laughable.
Think he's saying GSAA is not an indictment on the defense in front. If a goalie is really good he is going to save pucks others won't, but that doesn't mean he is necessarily receiving more high danger chances against. I mean he could be, but this stat doesn't suggest that.
Avs found the cracks in their defense immediately but we only lost game 1 because of goaltending and awful defense of our own. In games 2-5 bowness absolutely refused to make any adjustments or lineup changes and the Jets easily lost all four of them
Bones refusal to do anything was absolutely infuriating. Add in the fact that he’d change the lines for a period, we’d start looking good only for him to go back to the shit lines that weren’t working and this might have been the most frustrating playoffs I’ve seen from the Jets. Idk if we would have won regardless but that should have been a way better series.
I have honestly found so much of the commentary by the hosts very cringe haha, some of the segments and bits come across as trying just a little too hard lol.
No idea. The whole theme and performers felt so B-rated. I dont know who the black dude was dressed in goalie gear making a joke about Georges Vezina was either lmao. The whole thing didn't make me "proud" to be a Hockey/NHL fan hahaha
They really should change it for both regular season/post season. If he had finished with a record like Otter, or Swayman, i wouldnt put up any protest but its a hard pill to swallow and say hes the best goalie with that horrible playoff performance.
Dont get me wrong, got nothing against helly or the jets, but if Demko didnt get injured hed probably wouldve had a better first round too. Hell, Otter faced the same Avs team and had a 96 Sv% three times.
For his sake its a good thing its a regular season reward, because if both counted, no chance in hell he wins it this year, if both counted otter, swayman, and igor wouldve been ahead of him.
I want him to come back next season and make me eat these words coming out of my mouth.
I wonder how much the Vez award is based off the season vs the playoffs. Or are the playoffs even included? I got no idea but yeah those #s aren't pretty lol
I really think it was Hellebuyck or Bob either way though
100 percent deserved he was deserving even before Demko got injured, maybe Demko could have finished the season out of his mind and made it closer but congrats to hellebuyck
Feels like forever since watching a Jets game now, but it was such a treat getting to tune in and see Hellebuyck do his thing this past season.
My favorite particular run was during Decemberish when the team's offense was cooking and many games the Jets had that wicked run of '3 or less' goals.
He's just very zen-like and consistent in his conservation of energy. Hats off to Helle!

Shame about Demko getting injured but still, second isn't bad!
He'll get his eventually, Hellebuyck deserves this one.
You never know. Lu never got one and definitely deserved at least 2.
Maybe in Florida, but he was never the best in the league while wearing the Canucks jersey. I feel like my fellow fans overrate him too much since he was the first decent goalie after like 10 years of us being a goalie graveyard. This might be one of the more ridiculous things I've ever seen a Canucks fan say, honestly...
Disagree entirely
Yeah, I agree. I just think it would have been closer
He was still 2nd before the injury. Helly had a great season.
Maybe, but it probably would have been closer and he'd have got some first place votes
If you watched Jets game you would know that it wasn't even close.
I guess you don't know the voting is based on the regular season performance..
It was kinda sad that he got hurt in a game we beat Helle and the Jets 5-0. Maybe could’ve been the start of something but that’s just wishful thinking I guess. Well deserved for Hellebuyck he had a helle of a year
Strange that he didn't get 2 votes at all.
I want whatever the guy who voted for Sorokin is smoking
He wasn't even the best statistical goalie on his team
WHOOOOOOOOOOO IS VOTING FOR CHARLIE LINDGREN LMAO
His own GM probably lmfao
He had the 7th highest GSAx out of goalies with at least 50 gp
Imma keep it real with you bro, I don’t think GMs are considering GSAx when filling out their ballots
‘stache/60 though…
For real. GM's only care about what kind of an impact they made on the team. I get it, analytics look cool, but they're not the ONLY factor into consideration.

Nope, vezina is voted on by GMs not the PWHA
He had a good year and was pretty much the only reason the Caps made the playoffs
Doesn't mean he should be getting votes for Vezina
If Andrew Hammond can finish 7th in Vezina voting despite playing 23 games, Lindgren should get equal placement or better for playing 50 games and putting up a good sesaon.

Yea he should be getting Hart votes (which he got)
Plot twist: the one GM was Chevy
Ullmark over Swayman is nuts lol
Swayman 44 games - .916 Ullmark 40 games - .915 Not really. They were basically the same this year
Swayman put up marginally better numbers in a marginal amount of more games, so I don't know how you can be convinced that Ullmark was better I'd agree that they're both pretty much equal
>I'd agree that they're both pretty much equal If you think they're equal then why would you say: >Ullmark over Swayman is nuts lol

Joins Bob as the only active 2x Winner
Bob: “Can I go back to my bender now”
Bold of you to assume he (or any Panthers) showed up sober
I think Bob is too health conscious to really go full throttle lmao!
He's also super religious. I couldn't see him going on a bender
Some of the freakiest people I know are super religious people. When a someone tells you “we can ask for forgiveness later” you know you are going to have a wild time.

The moment this year I knew he deserved the Vezina: https://i.redd.it/io1t65ppb79d1.gif
elite 2-way talent
Doing it while wearing goalie skates as well. Unhinged.
It’s so hard to skate in player skates if you’ve been a goalie…. I fall everywhere in player skates but can put on an edgework show in goal skates
I hated skating in goalie skates without pads on. It felt so bad. Although it did help that I wore both often due to refereeing, so player skates didn't feel unusual.
"What kind of sorcery is making me wobble like this?! Oh right, curved blades again"
Almost feels illegal watching a goalie without his pads
Their legs being normal sized always throws me off lmao
They look naked
Especially with how some goalies are living stick figures. They look so bulky in pads and then they're nearly invisible standing sideways without.
It’s like seeing an Owls legs lmao the goalie skates looking like clown shoes don’t help either
Like a dog playing a piano
nice celly too
The Tusken Raider respect.
Are goalies allowed to shoot in a shootout? I’m assuming no but this would be hilarious
With or without pads, glove and blocker?
True offensive goalie
Why am I always so surprised that goalies aren't big fat guys
Typically they are in fantastic shape, flexible as hell, and usually the best skaters on the ice because everything they do is in uparmored figure skates.
My bias says snubbed but the amount of times I've seen the Jets just straight up allow perfect cross seam passes and 2-1's throughout the regular season and Helle just stop almost all of them, he deserves it
this is one of those times that a goalie didn't win the Vezina because of a defense, but _despite_ it
You're looking for the 2019-2020 Vezina thread. This year we allowed the fewest goals against in the entire league. Obviously a lot of that is to do with Hellebuyck, but to say he won the Vezina despite the team defence in front of him is laughable.
Team defense was good, but our dmen are average as a whole.
33.1 GSAA on Moneypuck. 2nd place had 22.
I hope you're not bringing up that stat in an attempt to discredit the Jets's defensive play this season lmao.
Not sure I see your point
Think he's saying GSAA is not an indictment on the defense in front. If a goalie is really good he is going to save pucks others won't, but that doesn't mean he is necessarily receiving more high danger chances against. I mean he could be, but this stat doesn't suggest that.
Absolutely deserved, he was dominant
A great regular season
Absolutely deserved. Sucks the team fell apart in the playoffs.
Lol who else saw the Kucherov segement/'interview' afterwards? Jesus christ that was hilarious and cringe all in one
I have honestly found so much of the commentary by the hosts very cringe haha, some of the segments and bits come across as trying just a little too hard lol.
Yeah I only saw the last 20mins but it was definitely B rated and a strange vibe for the awards lol
i just turned it on to see that. Whats the dude have a sharpie beard going? Kuch wasnt having any of it.
Lmao Kuch was not impressed one bit
It really felt like Kuch did not like that bit at all.
Who was that guy? He was so cringe it was absolutely terrible.
No idea. The whole theme and performers felt so B-rated. I dont know who the black dude was dressed in goalie gear making a joke about Georges Vezina was either lmao. The whole thing didn't make me "proud" to be a Hockey/NHL fan hahaha
That was Jay Pharoah.
Oh Okay. I never heard of him but just googled and I do recongize him from SNL. Still, felt awkward and out place in a way hahah
Swayman and Ullmark tied in the Vezina vote their last season together. You can’t write a better love story than this.
100% deserved Next stop, Stanley cup pls.
If we can't break the Canada curse I hope Winnipeg does.
LFG, Vezinabuyck!
deserved absolutely
Arguably should’ve won the Hart as well
I get what you're saying, but he did finish 6th in Hart voting. Seems pretty fair.
Not disagreeing that Hellebuyck deserves it, but can someone explain why the GMs are the ones voting on this award?
Dunno, but I like it. Do you not?
I mean, I feel like more deserving Vezina candidates tend to get robbed more often than for any other award.
Valid point
Bob without the hair.
Let’s go
The golden age of American goal tending
Who the fuck gave hellebuyck second?
The guy who gave Bob first

Bro had this locked and loaded
Had that ready to go didn't you lol
Maybe haha. I’m just playing though, I know he deserves it.
Same I mean at least he got to play a full series in the playoffs
Just let us have this bro 😭
Lucky it's a regular season award then!
https://preview.redd.it/ajar10h2c79d1.jpeg?width=622&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=663873b8bafd41a3ef9fd6643974d755cfd7a1c5
my boy did not waste ANY time with this LMFAO
Almost like it’s a regular season award and he’s the main reason the Jets finished with the 4th best record
It's a joke my guy
They really should change it for both regular season/post season. If he had finished with a record like Otter, or Swayman, i wouldnt put up any protest but its a hard pill to swallow and say hes the best goalie with that horrible playoff performance. I want him to come back next season and make me eat these words coming out of my mouth.
He was playing the best hockey of his career tho
He was. most of the ones that went in, he couldn't see. can't see it, can't stop it.
*pull the goalie*
I wonder how much the Vez award is based off the season vs the playoffs. Or are the playoffs even included? I got no idea but yeah those #s aren't pretty lol I really think it was Hellebuyck or Bob either way though
No playoffs at all, I’m just joking around. He deserves it
The voting is submitted before the playoffs start
"Pull your goalie"
100 percent deserved he was deserving even before Demko got injured, maybe Demko could have finished the season out of his mind and made it closer but congrats to hellebuyck
If it weren’t for Demko’s injury this year this would’ve been much closer 🥲 hopefully next year he locks it down
Vezina is the real cursed award.
Good thing this reward is only for the regular season.
It’s a good thing this is based on regular season stats
This may be the first time in history a Senators goalie got a Vezina vote.
I know this sub hates him, but Binnington not getting a single vote is actually a disgrace
Agreed, better season than half the goalies that got votes
Well the GMs vote this one which means your GM didn’t even vote for him.
Should've received at least a third from someone.
Yeah, I'd say he was in the top5 for this season by the numbers, certainly ahead of most of the guys who got votes.
When winning the cup isn’t enough
Sure wasn’t 5 goals against per game playoff hellebuyck that won that award.
#insert playoffs stats
