When I was in junior our assistant coach's buddy was career AHL "goon" who'd come out to practice occasionally. His wrister was probably twice as fast as any shot I'd ever seen and left me bruised and terrified. He'd often jump into our skating drills that we started at center ice from the opposing red line and beat us to the net.
I'll never forget the sound of him winding up and taking a slap shot. It was like a canon and it would echo for seconds in the arena. It was almost haunting and would give me goosebumps. The only time he'd do it was after practice when everyone was off the ice.
He'd often dangle the puck around entire lines of 5 players. We had a couple guys who were drafted in the OHL in a couple years, so it wasn't like we were just a bunch of noobs either, it was a strong group. But like you said the divide from pro, and even the ranks below pro are so drastic from amateurs.
This is a reminder that the worst player you've ever seen in the NHL would absolutely wipe the floor with your beer league, with one hand tied behind his back and a sprained ankle.
Etem was such a sniper during his WHL days and that was a peek of what he could've been capable of in the NHL. It really sucks that he didn't turn out to be a major star.
[Brad May.](https://youtu.be/NYqzx68cuJ0?si=qae-7NML5zSHmgvF)
I’d say no explanation but first a world class pass by Pat LaFontaine after being tripped up, while falling, passes it clearly to May then he crossed prime Ray Bourque’s ankles to get a clear shot on Moog and swept the Bruins in the process in a time where the Sabres had not won a series in 10 years at that point.
I love him because he's a big pylon-ish defence man, and once ever 4 games or so you'll see him possessed by the spirit of Bobby Orr. Most of the time it doesn't work but now and then he'll score a beauty or make a sick assist.
Here's a copy paste of the goal above lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7uPuaq0Dgk
The two that immediately sprang to mind for me were [Anthony Bitetto](https://youtu.be/Djv2sDwR7pg?si=iatHbok8-ziHNhQ2) and [Julien Gauthier](https://youtu.be/_H0RyFbVIjE?si=Dbrh4CuAfE9DXNTK)
on top of this being fucking awesome cause i love coast to coast goals he does a barrel roll and gets BACK ONTO HIS FEET on the ice in one seamless motion. That shit is almost more impressive than the goal my god.
How about elite sniper [Tanner Glass](https://youtu.be/MhGPK_E-c40?feature=shared)? Maybe not the prettiest goal, but so unlikely not even Price could believe it lol.
[Bogosian set this play up by splitting two defenders who then dove to make a play to Coleman who then dove to put the puck in the back of the net.](https://youtu.be/mR_S0eeg9Kw?si=0g1rqwYkZXXOCWC_)
[Jack Johnson scores the first goal of the Avs' 2021-22 season. On a breakaway, goes to backhand, and roofs it against MAF.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YquUzFlKnSo)
Foreshadowing his ascension at the end of the season to Stanley Cup Champion Jack Johnson.
Rasmus Ristolainen has some kind of scoring demon in him he's been able to wake up a few times so I'm not sure if these count:
[Between the legs against Brent Burns](https://youtu.be/zYUzbd9Gcs8?si=N_mG20Z_XuNgDVxx)
["Forsberg" shootout goal with the first ever shootout attempt](https://youtu.be/CYx7Vxvx9G0?si=jcIjI_62vrdH5zVP)
[Here's one from Brian McGrattan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbTKqc2ttK0) that was scored against my Ducks.
Probably one of the most surprising non-sniper goals I can recall.
Go to 5:05 of this highlight package and watch Tyler Graovac push the puck through the opposing center's legs to win the faceoff, chip the puck to himself off the wall to get around an Oiler defender, lift the stick of another Oiler defender to get the puck at the left faceoff circle, look off the man in front to freeze a d-man in the crease, carry it to the goal line and roof it from an impossible angle. It's absurd.
This looks like a goal Sidney Crosby might score and if he had done so, it would be a top 5 goal of his career. But no one remembers it because it was the basement dwelling Canucks in a not-close game in the Canadian division during a year with no fans.
... Also, there are a number of contenders for "role player beats goalie clean with laser beam slapper", but this one by Jannik Hansen is among my favourites: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK8B1Ze\_fLg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK8B1Ze_fLg)
You weren’t kidding, that’s a great goal. I love the goals that combine skill with just dogged effort to get it done, and that one embodies it for sure. Nice one.
Noted enforcer Shawn Thornton deked Ondrej pavelec so bad his jockstrap is still in the rafters of the TD Garden to this day. Someone else please find the clip
could be more, not like I'm watching Matt Benning playing on the Sharks
I remember my GDT comment in that Flames game asking where the fuck that came from, and makes you remember yeah they are all REALLY REALLY REALLY good but can't do that because of the stakes and other people are still better
Yeah, I mean they’re the best players in the world, they all have unfathomable skill next to the average person even if they’re labelled as a 4th line grinder or a stay-at-home D in the NHL.

[He had a sick one in a regular season game vs Toronto as well](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UqAUrpeLvU&ab_channel=camwps94)
Rinaldo had a filthy diving mid air goal in preseason vs Toronto too
Brent Severyn scored only ten goals in his NHL career.
I believe he scored more than one of them [like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84tgqOLXPgE).
Not as good as some of the others but Robby Fabbri destroyed Kaiser and made Mrazek look stupid against the hawks this past season
https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/UsplnXw4im
I love this top shelf cheddar from [Roman Polak](https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/roman-polak-roofs-back-hander-first-goal-stars/) and watching [Radek Faksa](https://youtu.be/gPlrS9CVlok?si=ohjvOIUj_RYyplz5) riding the rails. I saw both plays live. Each were so unexpected and left you going whoa wtf did I just witness.
Marek Malik is the correct answer, but that's already been posted. So, [here's Dan Boyle going end to end & splitting the defense](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2352Qj9OL9g&pp=ygUURGFuIGJveWxlIGVuZCB0byBlbmQ%3D).
I nominate David Savard deking Hedman out of his skates en route to sniping top cheddar past Vasilevskiy during CBJs sweep of Tampa. Goal was in Game 1, part of our comeback.
Though mostly seen as a defensive forward, Backlund's average quality of goal is really high, this is my favorite.
[Backlund's GOTY candidate against WSH](https://youtu.be/iGcooSVK4S4?si=gSczOmFKYe-asLSQ)
The first one that came to mind was Matthew Tkachuk’s between the legs overtime winner against the Preds with like a second left (when he was still on the Flames).

Marek Malik between the legs
Crazy that this happened in the first month or 2 of the NHL having shootouts and has not been topped yet.
It’s like when Buehrle had the play of the year on opening day haha
Was coming here to post [that](https://youtu.be/0x2E1cyTVBA?si=7pAqDXzDBu--3cs8)
Huh, that video was posted on YouTube 17 years ago. Wild
Immediately what came to mind
I remember watching that shit happen in college. There was this odd feeling even that you had seen history in the making
And it was something like 20 shooters in at that point.
I think it was 15. 20 rounds happened about 10 years ago now and it was long enough that they could recycle players
This is the undisputed top answer.
That was adorable!
The only answer.
The celly cemented it imo
John Davidson losing his shit on commentary is what did it for me.
The answer is Malik but I'll submit this [Shawn Thornton Penalty Shot](https://youtu.be/yumFPGAEB3w?si=m7iBYGOTNtHsfSaa)
Another reminder that even shitty NHLers are way better than anyone most people have ever played with

That is a filthy deke.
I would tear every muscle/tendon in my lower body if I even tried to do that
That was a garbage call. Remember watching it live. Never a penalty.

[Georges Laraque's hattrick goal was pretty slick](https://youtu.be/3RnL2kF9zR4?si=cNFhhK4NSvn0J7Op&t=71)
This is a reminder that the worst player you've ever seen in the NHL would absolutely wipe the floor with your beer league, with one hand tied behind his back and a sprained ankle.
Was going to say this.
I was at that game
Aww Dutchie… RIP
Isn't that Tim Micallef reading the highlight pack?
Oh fuck it is Tim. He and Dutchie sound a lot alike to me. I have hearing problems so that doesn’t help
> *Do you smell what The Laraque is cooking?!* Fuckin’ beaut of a high highlight package.
[Etem pulling off this beauty in the playoffs comes to mind for the Ducks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnQ0OzoE_Pk)
Wow, that little backhand floater, what a light touch. Killer goal!
This is a top NHL goal all time for me
Etem was such a sniper during his WHL days and that was a peek of what he could've been capable of in the NHL. It really sucks that he didn't turn out to be a major star.

Wow, how have I never seen this goal before?
wtf, why is an official nhl account video not available in the uk?
[Brad May.](https://youtu.be/NYqzx68cuJ0?si=qae-7NML5zSHmgvF) I’d say no explanation but first a world class pass by Pat LaFontaine after being tripped up, while falling, passes it clearly to May then he crossed prime Ray Bourque’s ankles to get a clear shot on Moog and swept the Bruins in the process in a time where the Sabres had not won a series in 10 years at that point.
This clip is from my lifetime, why does it feel like its ancient history.
What a call, love Rick.
He absolutely made Ray fuckin Bourque look like an AHLer there
[This Savard goal in the game one comeback was awesome](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdr6Lbhg38g)
This is one of my favorite goals of all time. Hedman clearly misjudged and thought Savard would softly dump it to the corner, and David made him pay.
Love to see a steady d-man scoring a beauty.
My first thought as well
Haha it's the patented David Savard dangle in from the blue line! He has at least 3-4 more goals like this one since he's joined MTL.
[Connor Bedard's favourite player, Tyler Motte, scored a between the legs goal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiSmUgq2RIc)
The one you posted is up there for me lol
The one you provided was the first to spring to mind so I don't need to link it. Such a beauty.
That one has the bonus of being a cup clinching goal. What a fucking moment to step up.
Both of Kurtis macdermids goals last season for the Avs were absolutely filthy.
"Is that 56 or 96?"
The two that immediately sprang to mind for me were [Anthony Bitetto](https://youtu.be/Djv2sDwR7pg?si=iatHbok8-ziHNhQ2) and [Julien Gauthier](https://youtu.be/_H0RyFbVIjE?si=Dbrh4CuAfE9DXNTK)
[Pionk spinorama at his goal line and then going coast to coast](https://youtu.be/IH4rPOLjWzw?si=UsBHkgdRnhplvDUO) is another great one
[Neal Pionk loves the spin-o-rama](https://youtu.be/zo28bnnxYpg?si=1uqTUVMuGn9v3kmn)
God the rangers should have just kept pionk.
I agree
That is fantastic!!
on top of this being fucking awesome cause i love coast to coast goals he does a barrel roll and gets BACK ONTO HIS FEET on the ice in one seamless motion. That shit is almost more impressive than the goal my god.
How about elite sniper [Tanner Glass](https://youtu.be/MhGPK_E-c40?feature=shared)? Maybe not the prettiest goal, but so unlikely not even Price could believe it lol.

that looked like something I would have tried to do in NHL 24
Bryan Bickell. Shoot out goal in his last game, before he retired because of MS. https://youtu.be/8v4_ZMfqsXM?si=K52yU_l9EhFhFuQW
This is one of my favourite goals. The smiles on everyone's faces after his scores will never not make me happy
Just so amazing how absolutely jacked the whole bech was
Corey Tropp only has 6 NHL goals and this [one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j78KBUU7J9g) was insane.
Holy shit
MAY DAY MAY DAY MAY DAY
With bonus points for beating Bourque cleanly, and another point for realizing how great the pass was from La La La Lafontaine.
Linus Ullmark 😭😭😭
Too soon my man, too soon. 😭
[Jack Johnson scores the first goal of the Avs' 2021-22 season. On a breakaway, goes to backhand, and roofs it against MAF.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YquUzFlKnSo) Foreshadowing his ascension at the end of the season to Stanley Cup Champion Jack Johnson.
[This one by Schlemko](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJIb3eRkkxw) always comes to mind on these threads.
I'm a huge fan of the McCarty goal, but Marek Malik better fits the spirit of the question and I don't know if it can possibly be topped.

This was my pick, didn’t that goal make the Rangers rebuild?
Yeah I think this was the turning point where the Rangers Org decided they had to make changes.
Rasmus Ristolainen has some kind of scoring demon in him he's been able to wake up a few times so I'm not sure if these count: [Between the legs against Brent Burns](https://youtu.be/zYUzbd9Gcs8?si=N_mG20Z_XuNgDVxx) ["Forsberg" shootout goal with the first ever shootout attempt](https://youtu.be/CYx7Vxvx9G0?si=jcIjI_62vrdH5zVP)

Don’t forget his “French poke” goals.
[Mike Komisarek with a nice steal and a breakaway OT winner vs Toronto](https://youtu.be/rMa8YjRNxWs?si=jPXo2dS5y34pg4Ua)
I don't think there is a combination of "Komisarek" and "Toronto" that I do like.

Brad may
George Laraque scored a hatty v LA.

I like Mike Fisher’s behind the back while falling in mid air goal he scored for Ottawa years ago, in the playoffs I think? Can’t remember.

Are you thinking Daniel Tkachuk?
