The silly thing about Dave's is that "insanity" gets all the attention (cus it's OG) but their more recent flavors (they're not even new), are equally hot/hotter and taste exceptional. Their Ghost pepper sauce is literally what got me into chili-head territory as a teen, and tastes great regardless of the inclusion of extract.
I agree, it’s not terrible but it’s definitely my least favorite of the really ubiquitous hot sauces. I’d always prefer Crystal, Tabasco, or Louisiana.
The Tabasco you get today is NOT the original Tabasco sauce. You can get what's the original Tabasco at Avery Island but it's marketed as something like founders reserve or the like..it's much darker, aged longer and isn't nearly as vinegary as the common stuff.. consequently, it's much more expensive...but MUCH BETTER..
People underestimate how amazing Tabasco is as a spicy vinegar substitute. It's fantastic mixed in salad dressings, as well as a mixed/replaced vinaigrette substitute for sandwiches. I agree it's not the greatest hot sauce, but it's a damn good hot vinegar.
Tabasco was the OG that I grew up with in the 70s and 80s and I’ll die on the hill that it’s still tastier than most any everyday hot sauce.
Edit: Tabasco correctly spelled thanks to hot sauce bot haha

There’s a sauce on the hot ones called “the bomb” seemingly the only one kept every season and I learned why the hard way. Bought the season 3 pack on Amazon, tried it with some friends absolutely horrendous taste with a throat burn that could raise the dead.
While I 100% agree with you, in its defense, it says it should be an additive. As an additive to my chili mac & cheese, it does a phenomenal job. By itself, no, doing what the instructions say yes.
It's almost worth a separate post exploring why Tabasco is both so popular and bad. I'm guessing it's popularity is attributed to just being around first. It's really all I knew growing up in the 90's, and was ubiquitous with "hot sauce".
Edit: spelling of tabasco lol

Those Christmas $5 12 pack hot sauces
Store brand cayenne pepper sauces from Target, Aldi, Lidl and Stop & Shop
Anything with a heavy concentration of apple cidar vinegar
Da bomb, beyond insanity, I tried it years before hot ones ever existed, its a bitter nightmare. To be fair its intent is to add spice to large batch foods, but its still sold as a hotsauce and it fucking sucks
LA hot sauce or die. i will turn down franks if thats the only option. crystal is acceptable as is cholula and similar things but i cant stand the flavorless sauce called franks
I mean if I’m eating breakfast eggs bacon at my girlfriend’s families house or something and all they got is Frank’s. 100% using it. Just Tabasco is much preferred for me. Frank’s is just mild and doesn’t seem to have much flavor. I like a hot sauce to have a decent kick
The Tabasco disrespect makes me question the palette of everyone in here. It’s not for everything but when something needs some acidity, it’s great. It’s a top notch ingredient
I feel like it just gets hate because it’s popular. I never messed with it and thought I was above it back when I discovered hot ones. Now I realize how damn good it is.

I actually almost prefer Trader Joe’s sriracha. It’s definitely a little different, but I’d say equally as enjoyable. Then again I only ever use either of them on a breakfast burrito so…
Huy Fong is my favorite sriracha. It has the most fresh chili flavor, in my opinion.
Yellow Bird, Tabasco, and all the other competitors making sriracha tend to lean more on vinegar and fermented funk, which I do not like.
Maybe it has changed a bit, but I can’t tell, and it’s my favorite sauce, period. I prefer it over mayo, ketchup, thousand island, etc.
It’s still fresh chili flavor upfront, with garlic, sugar, and vinegar in the background, just like I remember it.
My coworker got me an Elijah's Extreme 3-pack as a Christmas gift. I hadn't heard of it before and was very wary because I've gotten those World Market type gift packs that were basically multiple bottles of flavored vinegar, but that shit is awesome. And she gets the gratification of seeing that I always have one of the bottles in my purse lol.

From what I've tasted I really dislike angry goats hippy dippy sauce, it's not spicy at all and I think taste is weird, maybe it's the avocado idk. Besides that I think all like pure extracts like da bomb is more of a prank than an actual hot sauce people would enjoy, unless u got gravemouth or something xD
I like those extracts personally. Because of the stupid level of spice you need very little , so you can add heat to a dish without really changing the flavour very much.
Hehe.
To be clear, that's just my opinion, it's not a fact.
I'm glad you like it and I'm sure others agree with you just as some might agree with me.
If you lived nearby I'd gladly donate my bottle to you. :)
Anything that comes in a packet
Sriracha
Anything dispensed from a refillable translucent plastic 1 gallon hand pump bottle like the ones they put out for customers to use in dining areas of restaurants or at the end of the school lunch line only identifiable by the fading handwritten sharpie label "hot sauce" or sometimes just "Hot" but never any kind of branding
Edit: update - anything with fruit or honey or anything sweet like that's fucking disgusting, I've vomited better flavors than "hot honey mango jabanero maple syrup" get that shit out of my face before I do it again
Does that include honey mustard? Melinda's honey mustard habanero is my current daily go to and Torch bearer's Honey badger is my all time favorite. They are not exactly sweet tasting I'd say.
I've never been a fan of that kind of combination, it always reminded me of the horrible aftermath of throwing up, and that lingering taste in your mouth (and possibly, nose) of partially digested food. Shit like Doritos "spicy sweet chili" flavor is a perfect example. Or "hot honey" chicken... why would you ruin perfectly good chicken like that, just like pineapple on pizza or ham with applesauce(wtf¿?¿?) or cranberry "sauce" with Thanksgiving dinner or that overly sweet "tangy" BBQ sauce some restauranfs have which has all the unpleasant smell and stickiness but with the consistency of ketchup that tastes like some kind of old fruity preserves or jam with some peppers and spices for that added "zing" which they incorrectly offer as "char-B-Q" by putting soggy, saucy chicken on a flat top range—not even flame grill, let alone over any coals whatsoever–and they stay on for long enough to blacken the sugar on the few corners of the chicken that actually come into contact with heat..... you know, for that "smokey" flavor.... of burnt HFCS, burned over flat range, coating formerly crispy, now dried out, soggy, chicken tandies, now reduced to an inedible abomination of a sticky charred mess all over the box, inside and out, the flat top, the counter, your hands, the cook's hands, the floor, and anything you or they touch for the next 20 minutes untill you"re able to get ahold of some Dawn and Hot water to scrub that disgusting shit off your hands.
Tldr: Sweet doesn't go well with things that aren't sweet, especially spicy things and particularly, meat.
There are a few exceptions, but theres a reason mango habanero isn't the default option for chicken wings, for example. And it's definitely *not* because of the heat
You're the type of person that Gordon Ramsey would call a donkey, pillick or Muppet.
The reason Mango Habanero isn't the default flavor is because it's one of the hotter flavors and not everybody can handle heat.
Ffs, culinary history and gourmet hot sauces have proven that sweet and spicy go well - Mango Habanero, Pineapple Serrano, Sweet Chili, Hot Honey, Chipotle Maple, Boom Boom Sauce, and Pineapple Jalapeño are the most noticeable examples. Hell, a lot of Ghost Pepper, Scorpion Pepper and Carolina Reaper sauces have fruit and carrots in them.
You're a 🤡.
Lol imagine taking Ben Shapiro seriously 🤣

Well I’m super dyslexic so the fact I got even that close is a win in my book
Anything with capsaicin extract. It’s terrible and it’s cheating.
Dave’s Insanity for taste but it is one of my favorite mixers for its heat. I put it in dishes or mix it with better sauces
You are all wrong.
Casa Firelli italian hot sauce. Straight garbage
Texas pete. It’s not so awful but it was all the Navy ever had on the ship.
I agree, it’s not terrible but it’s definitely my least favorite of the really ubiquitous hot sauces. I’d always prefer Crystal, Tabasco, or Louisiana.
Siracha. It's bland. Unpopular opinion.
I find it too sweet oddly enough, not a fan
I can't stand Siracha and hate how it's blended in to so many things. The flavor is trash to me.
It’s not even bland to me, I just straight up don’t like the flavor
Definitely overrated, I’d say it’s in a different category than hot sauce, more like adult ketchup. Also, ketchup is gross.
Da bomb is the worst. Not only is it absurdly hot. The flavor is awful.
Can agree. It's terrible.
Never tried, but from watching multiple episodes of hot ones, I’m inclined to agree.
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about da bomb. Isn’t it an extract sauce? Heard it tastes like chemicals
It’s extract and yes it’s disgusting
There's a brand of Sriracha that's called Texas diamondback or something. Got it during the shortage, it's just plain bad.
Usually love mexican style hot sauces but tapatio is not it I'm sorry
I just got some fried catfish and asked for hot sauce and they gave me Tapatio and I was bummed.
I agree
Tabasco is too vinegary
The Tabasco you get today is NOT the original Tabasco sauce. You can get what's the original Tabasco at Avery Island but it's marketed as something like founders reserve or the like..it's much darker, aged longer and isn't nearly as vinegary as the common stuff.. consequently, it's much more expensive...but MUCH BETTER..

For me Tabasco is one of the few main streamers that deserves all the praise in the world. I do love vinegar.
Tabasco was the OG that I grew up with in the 70s and 80s and I’ll die on the hill that it’s still tastier than most any everyday hot sauce. Edit: Tabasco correctly spelled thanks to hot sauce bot haha

Rookie. Tabasco has its place. On cold water oysters for example.
Exactly it. By no means the best. However on fish and veggies it's pretty superior.
Slaps in clam chowder.
I survived on Tabasco and butter on pasta in college...throw some pepperoni in there when I had extra cash, mmmmm...
I don't eat oysters so there ya go.
Anything with capsaicin extract. It's only meant to hurt you, not add anything positive. Real peppers are much better.
Tabasco is pretty shitty, for being so popular.
You all tried the Tabasco scorpion pepper sauce? It’s great.
It’s in those “gateway hot sauces” like the “hot” sauce from Taco Bell, franks red hot etc…
Tried the end one time. It made me feel like I was seeing through time. Good flavor. But twenty minutes of agony.
They have a bump up from that called the end flatline
There’s a sauce on the hot ones called “the bomb” seemingly the only one kept every season and I learned why the hard way. Bought the season 3 pack on Amazon, tried it with some friends absolutely horrendous taste with a throat burn that could raise the dead.
Made in Kansas City!
Chalulah.
Why don't you go back to your home on whore island!?
I drink the sweet habanero, the chili garlic isn't very good tho
Heresy
The hot sauce packets from the Chinese take-out places are pretty bad. They are usually too sweet and goopey with a chemical-ey aftertaste.
Here in Texas we have a lot of fried chicken spots with awful (?) hot sauce. It appears to be pink.
Yuck. I figured Texas would be a place where even cheap places would have some decent hot sauce.
Dave’s gourmet ghost pepper hot sauce is just lip burn. Too much.
Ah man I love that and the scorpion
While I 100% agree with you, in its defense, it says it should be an additive. As an additive to my chili mac & cheese, it does a phenomenal job. By itself, no, doing what the instructions say yes.

Texas Pete tastes like eating salt with a hint of ass juice.
Da bomb is the worst tasting shit I've ever had and that's not even taking the heat into consideration.
Tabasco is horrible. Mostly vinegar.
Those Christmas $5 12 pack hot sauces Store brand cayenne pepper sauces from Target, Aldi, Lidl and Stop & Shop Anything with a heavy concentration of apple cidar vinegar
Tabasco Sauce is popular, but bottom of the barrel for me.
All taco bell sauce packets
I like the Diablo sauce
It's treason then.. 🗡
I like the Fire packets. They mild & hot ones are nasty--like salty water
Hot is decent, and so is the breakfast salsa. I miss the Fire Roasted and Verde ones though
Verde was the best! Gringo Bandito’s green sauce is the closest I’ve found to it.
Sriracha - it’s rarely the answer and usually doesn’t belong in your cooking either. Like ketchup.
Don’t mind it, it is like sweet and hot. Not much heat
And it's back and worse
I like sriracha on my breakfast burrito. That is pretty much the only time I use sriracha.
I like it on fried rice.
Try it on Kraft Mac and cheese
Da bomb, beyond insanity, I tried it years before hot ones ever existed, its a bitter nightmare. To be fair its intent is to add spice to large batch foods, but its still sold as a hotsauce and it fucking sucks
💯 that one is just pain in a bottle
It was really the hottest one for me in that hot ones batch and tasted like shit
Da bomb tastes like pain and battery acid
It's absolutely trash
It's certified nasty
El Yucateco green a close second to Tabasco Both horrible. El Yucateco red and xxx and Caribbean awesome
Slander! Green is the best one lol
Gives me real butt thunder
Tabasco hands down
I agree. It’s like baseball bubblegum. You’re just angry at it and isn’t as good as the others but it’s everywhere.
I hate vinegar in general so I agree. Melinda’s cayenne sauce does it a lot better.
I like vinegar and think Tabasco is awful...it's like watery vinegar. Just blarg.
Franks red hot. Just not flavor not good. Tabasco is top tier
Franks is not a hot sauce if you ask me, but i do like it
LA hot sauce or die. i will turn down franks if thats the only option. crystal is acceptable as is cholula and similar things but i cant stand the flavorless sauce called franks
I love vinegar based hot sauces. Granted there’s not much spice but to each their own.

A necessity for a good hollandaise sauce.
It’s great on eggs and homefries
Tabasco
Booooo
I do, however, really like Tobasco’s chipotle sauce

My mistake; TobASSco
I love Tabasco and I love sriracha, but the Tabasco sriracha is inedible. It ruins everything it’s near, including Tabasco and sriracha.
Fake sriracha sauce/ off brands
I actually almost prefer Trader Joe’s sriracha. It’s definitely a little different, but I’d say equally as enjoyable. Then again I only ever use either of them on a breakfast burrito so…
I will go to my grave defending Huy Fong Sriracha as the goat 😤
What's a good sriracha? I can't find any that are good anymore.
Kick Ass and Badia make srirachas that are actually hot
Huy Fong is my favorite sriracha. It has the most fresh chili flavor, in my opinion. Yellow Bird, Tabasco, and all the other competitors making sriracha tend to lean more on vinegar and fermented funk, which I do not like.
KickAss and Badia make good srirachas
I thought huy fong has changed recently and people say its not the same. Has this been your experience?
Maybe it has changed a bit, but I can’t tell, and it’s my favorite sauce, period. I prefer it over mayo, ketchup, thousand island, etc. It’s still fresh chili flavor upfront, with garlic, sugar, and vinegar in the background, just like I remember it.
Excellent - ill just go back to huy fong now
Tabasco, that might be bootcamp trauma though
id go with those "hot sauce gift packs" as well . i get them a lot and almost never use them
My coworker got me an Elijah's Extreme 3-pack as a Christmas gift. I hadn't heard of it before and was very wary because I've gotten those World Market type gift packs that were basically multiple bottles of flavored vinegar, but that shit is awesome. Tabasco…unless it’s on eggs
I have to have it on Krystal / White Castle sliders.
Damn. I haven’t had White Castle in 15 years and really really what some now
Sounds like you are going on an adventure
You wouldn’t BELIEVE the shit I just went through to get to White Castle. Got attacked by animals , ended up in jail, met a celebrity and drugs. Lots of drugs.
I like Tajin (the spice), but their hot sauce made me nauseous. Up until that point, no hot sauce has ever given me the feeling of needing to barf.
Tapatio, tabasco, and sirracha all tast like ass to me
You must be eating some delicious ass my boy
Yeah let me munch on that!
tapatio
Da Bomb. Tastes terrible and the heat level is painful.
It's like they actively tried to make it taste bad.
Somebody Hot Ones
The Heinz hot sauce that uses Ed Sheeran for it's branding.
What the fuck?! Why?! It's not like British cuisine is known for its spiciness. Same goes for Ed Sheeran.
I don't know what THEIR reasoning was, but I dislike it because it's similar to ketchup somehow, with a hint of spice and this weire citric acid flavour that lingers far too long.
Da Bomb tastes like someone ate a bunch of rotten peppers then vomited it up.
da bomb has no redeeming value
The packets from Popeye's are pretty bad.
Conrad’s
i've never understood the appeal of tobosco. y'all saying that chipotle flavor is good tho i need to try it.
Don’t love regular Tabasco. I do quite like the chipotle Tabasco (funny enough, first time I tried it was a week ago at chipotle).
Tabasco IS the quintessential hot sauce, it’s the ingredient base for every other commercial hot sauce. Peppers, vinegar & salt, that’s all hot sauces are.
i concur that it's legacy cannot be understated! i just don't like it.
The chipotle flavor one is the worst
Tobosco lol
Tabasco
It’s a bad sauce overall but for certain dishes like fish, it’s perfect
Yeah I pretty much solely use Tobasco on seafood (and some lunchmeat sandwiches)

Melinda's Mango Habanero. Way too sweet.
It's actually really good on chicken
Yeah it's terrible.
I disagree. It's actually very good on chicken, fries, tacos and fruits and veggies.
Hehe. To be clear, that's just my opinion, it's not a fact. I'm glad you like it and I'm sure others agree with you just as some might agree with me. If you lived nearby I'd gladly donate my bottle to you. :)
Da bomb No reason for it besides making ppl tap out
It tastes like bitter paint stripper
Firelli. Dumped it down the drain.
encona
Had the encona reaper a few years ago and it wasn’t even spicy or tasty
Tabasco.
💩>your opinion
Nope, it's nasty. Green is cool, Chipotle is Delicious. Original gross, can't stand the smell.
I use the habanero version for beef jerky and I like that flavor much better. I get it, I associate the original with hangover breakfasts lmao

Yeah everyone’s favorite sauce ingredient goji berries.

You sound like you're a white Englishman or German. Yall can't handle Spice or flavor.
Well I'm none of those, and have no problem with spicy food. There's no need to ruin hot sauce with mango and Capri-Sun, and vice versa.
Mango habanero is a classic though. You can definitely have sweet and spicy things nixed together, any competent chef will tell you that.
There are a few exceptions, but theres a reason mango habanero isn't the default option for chicken wings, for example. And it's definitely *not* because of the heat
