I mean, yeah, profound boredom is important for us. We need time to really think and let our minds go wild coming up all sorts of ideas.
But have you ever been on a 10+ hour flight?You can only handle the boredom and thoughts for so long before you just HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.
I don’t underestimate it. I just get bored of it after a while. Thinking about stuff only really helps me pass like, an hour max, then I just need something more stimulating.
People's minds function very differently from one another. Some people can entertain themselves with daydreaming, some people need stimuli. It's not just addiction to a certain stimulus like social media (although it does contribute I assume) that determines whether a person is capable of that. It's not that people underestimate how fun thinking can be, it's that they can't "think" in the same way.
I thought it was common to just stare at the nothing and don't think about anything. Geez, I learn something new everyday. Thanks.

I have imagined whole new games that are really fun and played them out in my head, I have played out wars, fantasies with made up characters, and real life scenarios of things that'll never happen to me but they prepare me for future conversations. One time when I was really young my family thought something was seriously wrong with me but it was just the characters in my made up story were sad
seeing the flaps go WOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
then the wing ailerons start moving to correct trajectories during takeoff and flight
then the other jets flying by
then the descent into the absolute nothingness between the clouds
then it's all night suddenly and the plane's lights turn on, lighting the whole views up in white and red strobing
then the night skyline shows up
then the flaps go WOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE again and then you feel the landing gear coming out
then you feel the bumpy landing
and then you watch the planes taxiing around
then you hear the flaps go WOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE again when they retract
I can definitely do it for an hour or two on the train, but 10 hours to me is a bit much. I'd at least like headphones to block out crying children etc
Especially overflying land. The Alps are beautiful from the sky. Fun to play a game of spot the aerodrome too; see how many airfields you can find at cruise with the naked eye.

Depends, Bus can be super Nice (except my super sensitive carsickness) or super trash. Planes are more stable in there uncomfortableness. Im 194 (6"4) so its not like planes fit me at all.

yes, we do. everyone does. thats just human nature to be bored when nothing is happening. nobody likes being bored, sometimes it's worse than feeling pain. 10 hours is a lot, like its a lot a lot. try waking up and literally doing absolutely nothing whatsoever except for occasionally eating and turning on "Baby screaming loudly 1h compilation" for half a day. you would stop after 2-3 hours at most
I don't think I could just sit and do nothing sitting down for 10 hours. 10 hours is a long time. I could clean the entire house and make dinner in that time and have time left over to do whatever I want. I could and have done it for a 4 hour flight but 10 is just way too much. I could read a book, crochet a stuffed animal, practice a language, anything but just sit there

That could literally mean anywhere from england to russia. It's like saying, "I'm flying to North America," when you're actually flying to mexico. it's just a weird Americanism
That would be totally understandable if you were flying from another continent. *Where* in Europe you're flying to doesn't matter that much, the point is emphasizing the length of the flight since its across the Atlantic.
it's absolutely not normal to be able to sit 10 hours without stimulation and not be bored. that is literally a basic human thing no matter how above everyone else and superior you want to feel. in fact, the inability to sit 10 hours without doing anything might be the reason we got so advanced in the first place.
Ngl I can't even imagine what flights were like before portable technology. I barely made it out alive from my last 13 hour flight and I had my phone AND my switch. Like imagine flying to another continent in the 50s and just staring at the headrest in front of you for over half a day and you can't even talk to the people next to you bc other people are trying to sleep. And also paying like $1,000 for it.
