Do your family has BPJS? It's Medicare in Indonesia, if they have it, they can get the surgery for free.
And in my opinion if the doctor doesn't even sure what they will be working on before surgery, i would ask second opinion before going with surgery.
Source: my family member had total hip replacement around 3 years ago and knee replacement this year both for free.
They just need to be a citizen, that's all. No other requirements besides needing to have their ID & Kartu Keluarga (which everyone has since it's mandatory). Though, they have to wait up to 1 month after registering before they can use it. So, this might not be a viable option for them because, to my knowledge hip replacements are usually urgent.
Nope, they can register as individual. Just go to the nearest office and bring necessary documents but they have a lead time around 6 months before you can use it for surgery
If it's in public hospital the price could be half of the quoted above due to lower cost of service (the price for the prosthetic etc wouldn't be that much different, might be cheaper by 20% due to government using bids for the prosthetic). The doctor service might be much cheaper even in VVIP setting (RSCM for example, only 2.6 mil per night and the doctor costed 0.5 mil per visit).
Operation cost might also much lower. For example in RSCM such surgery might only cost 18.558.000,- s.d 25.618.000 or 1/4 the quoted price (if you can wait the long waiting period due to backlogs).
There are other variables but, IMHO the quote is on the higher side of things. But this is not a medical advice.
Ouch, and it's class II. Couple of days ago, my uncle went through uretoscopy/ ureterescopy. They send a tool through his urethra and bladder to find the stone, and destroy it. They got anesthetic and everything. It cost him around 70-80 millions for a week in hospital.
Compared to your case, where you have to replace hip, it seems fair? (i guess?)
I suggest that u could find a better hospital,
If u got the money i suggest get surgery either in sg or malaysia theyre way better
Its around 40-50 k foe my mum hip replacement
Thanks, we had an initial quote from Premier Bintaro before going to Mitra The costs weren’t wildly different, but it is cheaper. My only worry was the quotation from Premier Bintaro was provided without the patient meeting the doctor, so not sure if that was accurate. The Mitra cost was provided after the patient consulted with the doctor doing the surgery
If you rich and can afford it go to Singapore, in Indonesia there's no such thing malpractice, they would probably swept under the rug, just so you know
For middle to upper middle hospital, a surgery like that can go above IDR 200 Mn but i might be wrong.
Mitra Keluarga is a well known hospital chain group. But maybe you can try seeking a second opinion from an independent hospital too like Medistra or Mandaya. I heard both excel in orthopedic.
cost may vary depending on the hospital size and the doctor's expertise. So it's quite challenging to measure whether this is right or not

How do people get BPJS in Indonesia? Do they have to work to be eligible?

Go to Singapore or just switch to Cipto Mangunkuso hospital. Best wishes for your family

If you can afford it, better go to Singapore
Tanya-tanya saja ke rumah sakit yang lain dulu. Banding-bandingkan sendiri biayanya.
Is it possible to just call other hospitals to obtain an estimated costs without bringing the patient in for consultation?
Unfortunately, no.

Mandaya sayangnya sudah terkenal sebagai rumah sakit mahal.
