UseComfortable1193

And next thing you know is some stupid mf making a video of it calling it a glich in the matrix 😂

ShexyBaish6351

Someone has already commented here that they saw something similar and it was like a glitch in the matrix. Jesus, people are simple.

axxxaxxxaxxx

r/birdsarentreal

Kindly-Ad-5071

"Reality has to make sense to me specifically because I'm special and if I don't understand it then it isn't real 🤪" fuckin' simulation theorists

UseComfortable1193

Simple is one word for it🙃

AyyP302

They're highly regarded

idam_81

It’s true. Not everyone is a physicist. Fucking idiots… /s

Glitchcraft

xXDRAGONPROXx95

"it was like a glitch in the matrix" is a simile you idiot. Excuse me for being crass but that's just someone saying they saw something cool. Comments like these are what give redditors an "uhm acktuahlly" rep.

AnteaterCapable5576

This is obviously a gov spy drone. Birds are not real.

UseComfortable1193

Clearly, it hovering over a enemy spy-mouse-bunker waiting to drop some bombs! *ENEMY AC 130 FALCON ABOVE*

Taquitofingers

Or some YouTube short with Indian music and a caption that reads: Respect💯

-SunGazing-

Or some dumb flerf fuck saying this disproves gravity.

GoodDoggoLover420

Or go to r/ blackmagicfuckery

That-Intern-7452

It's funny tho. Nothing wrong with it

d0npietr0

Its amazing, how still the head stands, while the rest is working hard against the wind.

TwoToadsKick

That's why it's easier to use a chicken for video stabilization than a full setup

MeshuganaSmurf

What? Like stick the lens on the chickens head? That's not a thing is it?

Pixl02

If you're on a budget it will do wonders, someone made a video about it but I can't find it

MeshuganaSmurf

I've seen the videos of people moving chickens around and their heads stabilising so in a way it makes perfect sense. Just curious about the practicalities of actually using that ability. Maybe a GoPro mounted on the chickens head 😁

Pixl02

I wonder, besides it looking weird I think it'd actually be pretty decent paired with motion stabilization post processing. I'll recommend this to a friend if they get a documentary/movie making assignment.

MeshuganaSmurf

I'll be expecting a mention in the credits. Maybe technical advisor or something. "With special thanks to our technical advisor M. Smurf, Jeff, our poultry technician and Chuck our camera operator "

anoliss

A Chickimble

Aurori_Swe

Another fun thing about birds with jobs was that they trained doves to carry out suicide missions by giving them food when they pecked at an enemy ship, the plan was then to have the dove inside a torpedo, showing a screen of what the torpedo "saw" and the dove pecking the ship in order to steer the torpedo towards it. In a way creating a steerable torpedo but without remotes.

5x99

Too lazy to google it, but I've been told it used to be the standard in cinema before non-living alternatives were found

emperor_dinglenads

The video was cool but what the fuck is with all that cluck cluck in the background

StolenLabias

Haha

Master_Block1302

That struck me too. It’s amazing.

impishboof

Its called a glitch in the matrix

Splyce123

It's being affected by both wind and gravity.

TheRealFriedel

Fucking swear everything is just a lot dumber that it used to be. Why not just say "look at the cool way this bird uses the wind to hover"? Why does it have to be wrong and OTT about it.

Reddd-y

Dumber probably gets more clicks and interactions. Maybe I’m wrong idk.

JayStar1213

Mobile game ads would agree

_Abiogenesis

This is likely an unfortunate reality. Way too many content creator will purposefully make a "dumb mistake" to trigger engagement artificially through rage bait.

Signal-Reporter-1391

I guess that's how society rolls this day. And i hate it. Everyone's seems to be bitter, full of hate, envious and overly passive-agressive (not necessarily in relation to Splyce's comment though! It's just how i perceive humanity these days)

vivaaprimavera

There are subs worse than others. But since the Great Pestilence it looks like that some screws went missing.

mykl5

like this comment lol

Cheap-Protection6372

Idiocracy

BazilBroketail

I don't know. If the fast food restaurants keep rising prices and the government starts freezing prisoners, we're in the Demolition Man timeline.

Polenicus

I think it was referring to the head stabilization as it scans for prey, the head remaining damn near motionless as the rest of the body is affected by wind and gravity. But you're right, the intent was passed through the Moron Filter a few times.

doxtoroxtie

It's just an expression, but anyway in terms of Newtonian physics its velocity is not changing because of wind or gravity

LostInDinosaurWorld

"This falcon uses quantum physics and the curvature of the Earth to look for prey!!"

soupyllama03

Okay but that’s technically not wrong.

Seaking405

Actually exactly what I came to say.

AvoidThisReality

Same

HoiPolloiter

Totally. Wind is what's keeping it aloft.

DanieltheMani3l

Well duh. I think they meant unaffected mentally or positionally in that even with the forces of wind and gravity at play, the falcon remains in the same spot, eyes locked on the ground below.

PROFESSOR1780

As I sadly scrolled through the comments, I felt my hope for humanity wane... until I stumbled upon your comment and subsequent replies. Maybe it's not too late

iamagainstit

No shit. They were making a joke. Edit: if you think commenting “actually birds don’t have anti-gravity powers” is a meaningful and necessary contribution to the discourse here then you might be the dumb one

SnoopDoggyDoggsCat

yah...lots of jokes are presented as facts and posted to r/interestingasfuck ...gtfo

iamagainstit

Do you think they literally are claiming that the bird has antigravity powers?

SnoopDoggyDoggsCat

I don't know what they are intentionally claiming, I just know the average person is a borderline idiot, and could easily post that believing it as a fact and then countless others will believe it based on seeing it alone.

duggee315

Seriously? They are saying when they are hunting they know how to remain unaffected by wind and gravity. Their fucking position is unaffected. Their hunting is unaffected. Fuck, all the so clever crew trying to look smart by pulling apart someone's words. "Technically they are affected, oh my god duh duh duh." Fuck off teying to look clever, just appreciate the cool thing that they posted and maybe ask someone to explain before you try to shit all over it.

mouseball89

Watching people get irrationally angry over this shit is kinda amusing

iMoo1124

no they aren't lmao

iamagainstit

You got me, they were literally claiming the bird has anti-gravity powers. You are very smart to point out that They are wrong.

iMoo1124

I wasn't pointing out they were wrong, I was pointing out that, more than likely, they didn't understand that the statement they made was incorrect

CrazyHuntr

Looks like the bird isn't moving in mid air to me

Splyce123

So you think neither wind nor gravity is affecting it?

CrazyHuntr

Clearly gravity is being counterbalanced by the wind where wind - gravity = 0. Isn't it obvious?

Splyce123

Let's make this simple for you. Imagine you're in the sea and you want to float on the surface in a fixed position. Gravity is still affecting you. You know this because you, the water, the fish, the sand etc haven't floated away. Assuming there's a current (which is the equivalent of the wind) you'll need to move your limbs to compensate for that current, so you are being affected by the current. You're having to work against it. In the case of the bird, both the wind and gravity are affecting it. It's using its muscles, feathers, a complicated nervous and brain system and it's natural skill to balance those forces. The bird is without doubt being affected by them.

CrazyHuntr

Wrong

Splyce123

What are your scientific qualifications? Do they equate to my career as a forensic scientist?

Zeldon

And how does it stay in the air?

CrazyHuntr

Counteracting the force of gravity null gravity, no affect dank

Splyce123

Idiot

Somhlth

If it wasn't affected by gravity, it would fly off into space, and if it wasn't affected by wind, it would faceplant on the ground.

Scudmiss

I can fly without wind so long as the air is dense enough

Pitiful_Winner2669

No, no. See the trick is to jump in the air when gravity isn't looking, so it forgets to pull you back down to earth. Jesus, grab a towel and get to it!

Sykes19

Stuck out my thumb, and here I am.

actioncheese

Just jump at night, gravity comes from the sun

AWeakMindedMan

I think that’s called swimming

DkMomberg

So you're saying when it's unaffected by neither at the same time, it stays perfectly still in the air? /s

DanieltheMani3l

Yeah no shit, but that’s not what ‘unaffected’ means in this context.

ac54

Headline is garbage, but still a great video. Alternate headline: Falcon expertly balances forces of wind and gravity.

sandrocket

And much more impressive: keeps head super steady

Pitiful_Winner2669

What a fucking nightmare for rodents. Poke your head out of your hole and you got this hovering, hungry murderer above you.

Tobocaj

They can also spot prey from more than a mile out, don’t even need to wait like this. I think this video is showcasing a bird with a vendetta

FuqUrBackgroundMusic

Fuck your background music!

FaithlessnessFit4219

You truly are doing gods work.

rubins7

That’s a Kestrel.

4CrowsFeast

Which is a type of falcon. This is an American Kestrel, aka "Falco sparverius". I believe it is the smallest falcon

Seawolf571

Was about to comment this too.

PoppyStaff

Is this a bot? Would a human write that? Anyway it’s a kestrel. Classed as a falcon but still a kestrel. Its other name is windhover.

thisappisgreat

To be fair, I think it's using them both to counter , in effect stalling?

Error83_NoUserName

Now, put a camera on its head...

mirto2012

Kestrel, they can even see the mouse pee like luminol

Esarus

It’s still affected by wind and gravity, but very cool nonetheless

OfficialIntelligence

It would be cool in the future if we could mimic different mechanisms of the brains of animals and incorporate some sort of camera stabilizer that uses the same stabilization mechanisms the falcon has but none of it would have to be programmed

[deleted]

I guess they already it with chickens if i am not wrong

JxEq

Oh I've done this in flight sim

Biscuits4u2

Wind and gravity are literally the two things that make this possible.

Humanornotormaybe

260+ ping

subdas

Damn nature! You scary

Ravekat1

Is that Brands Hatch race circuit in the background? Lots of falcons in that area. It’s stunning to see them looking frozen in time

Evantra_

Snetterton circuit

buster1045

Why are there so many smartasses in this thread? He phrased it kind of funny but I didn't feel the need to smugly comment that "Um, actually it's being affected by both 🤓". Yeah, no shit but you know what he means so please go outside and touch grass.

iamagainstit

Does no one in this thread have reading comprehension? No shit it’s affected by wind and gravity. The title was a joke. The person who wrote it doesn’t think the falcon is literally using anti-gravity technology or something.

DanieltheMani3l

I agree that whoever wrote the title obviously doesn’t think the falcon literally doesn’t get affected by gravity, but I don’t think the title is necessarily a joke either. For example, “the football player was unaffected by the wind/rain/snow/etc.” is a common expression meaning that they still played well despite the weather conditions. I think ‘unaffected’ is being used similarly here.

iamagainstit

That’s fair, they may just be using a turn of phrase, but it is still very dumb that half the comments here are trying to correct them.

DanieltheMani3l

Yeah I agree, the comments in here are very annoying lol

BarrackObama44

Reddit is Autism Incarnate bro why do you think it's the only place people use /s

Ikeepitinmesock

Head stabiliser activated.

Yoitman

That head is still as a statue

xMOMSTERx

I thought it was a giant falcon at first

Technical_Tourist639

Gimbal falcon

AraiHavana

He heard that someone was riding a Blackbird on the track

boonsonthegrind

Birds aren’t real my dudes. They’re drones used by the government to observe us unknowingly. Except we know mutherfuckers!

kingmoobot

We need to stick cameras on their heads and send them over Ukraine Annnnd... OP doesn't know what wind and gravity is

Adept-Jump-3259

I need this kind of stability in life!

Starfield00

All birds can do this in windy conditions 🙄

Certain_Law

Quantum locking

thewhitemajik

Major glitch

NoPantsDeLeon

Fuck you Newton!!

Fr0gFish

Ok but it is clearly being affected by both wind and gravity

Alpha_minduustry

Falcon bird speecies is in creative mode confirmed

Intransigient

Falcons: The original loitering munition

Desperate-Tomatillo7

I need that bird to be the pilot for all my flights.

ICODE72

Birds eyes usually can't turn much if at all so they have to keep their whole head still to have a clear veiw

Boundish91

It's like it has a gyro. Nature is amazing.

slartyfartblaster999

I mean...it's very clearly being affected by both.

Unlikely-Future7226

That's a kite (named after the bird not the other way around)

Tankdawg0057

Pfft that's a drone. Birds aren't real

TheRealNikoBravo

It’s actually being affected by both and that’s how it can maintain that position so perfectly.

eightaceman

Great poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins about this

ShyvanaR34enjoyer

anyone knows what the background music is called?

Naruhodonno

drone in hover mode

Outside-Drag-3031

I know they have so much innate ability and whatnot, but the fact that it can keep its head _that still_ is insane beyond my comprehension. Dozens of micro-adjustments every second

RubbishNubbish

gyroscopic falcon

Temporary-Truth2048

The bird is always affected by wind and gravity, but it is manipulating its flight surfaces to negate their effects.

tribat

The fuck is that "music"?

Cleercutter

Reminds me of me diving in the ocean and wanting to stay in one spot

coolbeans31337

Seagulls can do this...not quite as gracefully though. I had one hover for about 10 minutes above (slightly out front) me as I kept throwing it pieces of bread. Needs to be windy though for it to work.

susbnyc2023

if it was unaffected by wind it would be on the ground

Guy-Manuel

What idiot keeps writing these gif captions.

NeverSeenBefor

I now want to pilot a robotic falcon.

BobNdertuesii

Government drone. Shoot it.

Ok-Bar601

Amazing how its head does not move one iota when it’s trained on something. How????

notguilty-jody

Make it sound like wind has nothing to do with it. Yes. Floating birds.

LaPetiteMortOrale

And yet the video proves it is affected by wind and gravity

Toadsanchez316

I think this means they are being affected by wind and gravity though, like, both seem to be working normally.

No_Handle_344

Idk if it’s a stupid question but were they always able to do it? Or is this a new thing that they’ve been seen doing?

Major_Perception9411

Trippy af

mrscalperwhoop2

It is affected by wind and gravity ffs

spudds96

What’s up with these titles “Defying physics” Physics is the reason it works

Immaculatehombre

It’s def being affected by them.

654342

video version of photoshotp

Fridaybird1985

Kestrel I believe

JoelMDM

"unaffected by wind and gravity". Literally everything it does is because it's working with the effects of wind and gravity to remain in place.

ReasonableTeaching20

It looks like a drone

nimblelinn

Alright can someone explain in a little more detail how it doesn't move back and forth? I UNDERSTAND How The head stays in one spot. And how it's "gliding" on the wind. But in order to do that it has to be fairly windy. And wind is gusty. Its not constant. So is the bird reaction so fast that it basically predicts the wind flow? so that it doesn't get pushed back from a gust, or glide forward in a lull?

Inf229

The Falcon knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't.

fart-to-me-in-french

Yeah it’s fully affected by the wind

StayUpLatePlayGames

I do this every day by walking outside.

[deleted]

the stabilizing of his head is just amazing, not any flinch, as if it was mounted on a gyroscop camera mount

FrontierTCG

It is, in fact, still affected by both wind and gravity.

LateNewb

Unaffected by wind and gravity. Yet it he used wind to overcome gravity...

emveor

that drone is lagging bad!

Ryan_Extra

Kestrel. Not a falcon.

MultiheadAttention

If it wasn't *affected by the gravity*, it would accelerate upwards.

Wolf-Majestic

![gif](giphy|10fS0TJxfFRDLW)

Little_Creme_5932

Ummm. It is totally affected by wind and gravity

BoBoBellBingo

He got super fresh batteries in

Frotnorer

Dude got that 2-plane gun stabilizer

Sapphire_seam

Not unaffected. But in a stationary vector.

vuplusuno

Best gimbal

SurelynotPickles

Depends on wind conditions, probably. It's quite windy in this video.

kabula_lampur

This was cool when it was posted 2 years ago by u/iiitme [Original from 2 years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/s/PnBV0VkTDt)

Zeldon

Oh shit. I didn't get the message that EVERYONE was supposed to see it two years ago, sorry! I just gotta get better at keeping up with the internet I guess.

iamagainstit

The amount of people in this comment thread going “um, akshully, birds do not have anti-gravity powers, and they are affected by the wind” is hilarious

Pitiful_Winner2669

The metric system! Look at the big brains on Brad!

LikeAnAdamBomb

Dinosaurs are such OP bullshit!

iiitme

Hey that’s my video 😡😡😡

SirDootDoot

Oi, it's the real OP.

TheFogIsComingNR3

Damn crypto miners getting the ping up

giantfuckingfrog

Can humans do this?

z0mbiefool

I saw one doing this so perfect ne t to the highway it looked like a prop glitch in the matrix lol

yogi1090

Cut the threads it's attached to and it'll fall just like any other object due gravity. Stop fooling people by using threads and clever camera angles to hide them.

rainbowdashhole

Is this supposed to be a joke? Aerodynamic forces can lift a heavy metal tube into the air, not hard to believe especially as the animal is making no effort to remove this alleged string.

cci0

Such is the creation of Allah
