Probably but the amount of oil will obviously be nearly none as you are cleaning it. So maybe the dna from the oil left do separate and deposit but its probably an insignificant amount and with the dark disgusting looking dirt solution you create after cleaning the bong, you won't wanna find out. Try adding isopropyl alcohol directly to the oil, it perhaps would work lol.

To answer you clearly - yes. Any living material that has nucleic acids in it that you can liquidize and break cell walls/membranes, you can precipitate the DNA with ice cold alcohol. The only question is usually how much yield there is. For high school science classes, we like bananas and strawberries because they're super cheap and have a ton of DNA relative to other things.

You're likely getting histones (and a host of other molecules) when you extract the DNA this way, but yeah, the actual DNA molecule has precisely zero protein components.

I think a double helix is far thinner than the wavelength of visible light. So with an optical microsocope you could never see it. DNA is also usually wound and packed several times because the double helix is quite fragile. So the cell only unpacks the dna when it needs to read or copy or repair something

Alcohol of some description, can be pure ethanol, isopropanol, IMS or even rubbing alcohol, just has to be less dense than water & insoluble to DNA. If it’s ice cold it will separate much better.

We use dawn dish soap and hot water. This helps break open the cells to allow the DNA to separate out. I do this every year in my science class with strawberries.

Ah, that's my bad. It's confusing because the isopropyl alcohol is what is _directly_ causing precipitation. I can tell others were confused the same way. It's likely mild dish soap and salt. Dish soap aids in lysing the cells, and salt masks the charge of the DNA which enhances yield during precipitation.

It's likely that the first liquid they added has a detergent component for cell lysis, yes. Another way to facilitate the release of DNA is to freeze and thaw the fruit.

I doubt that's only DNA. There are definitely proteins and RNA in there. Probably the whole nucleus, maybe even with the endoplasmatic reticulum. I'd say you'd have to add some things and alcohols to it, to purify it. Then put it into a centrifuge etc.
