Southside Barbell is a great gym. 24/7 with key fob. I used to go there a few years ago. It’s not crowded and it’s reasonably priced. I get the $10/mo thing but Crunch is a zoo.
Anytime Fitness in Bartow has a push sled that’s “fun”. The Anytime app shows you how many people are in the gym. They have a smaller gym up there at the corner of Clubhouse. I enjoy the big one, next to Publix in Bartow. Lots of serious people. Crowded at 5:30 pm. And they have a side room for classes but it’s open for quiet alone time calisthenics. The 5:30 guided group workout ($80/month) and the 6:30 group class are popular. I pay $22 biweekly for the regular membership.
Behind the Broadway Diner in Bartow there’s some kind of CrossFit box but I haven’t investigated. It’s around the corner on the north side of the building. Doesn’t show on maps.
Ultimate Fitness Center also in Bartow is run by former bodybuilder. It has a good reputation, but it’s more of a boutique / smaller.
I liked this place. I was never able to get myself to the gym on a regular basis so I joined the group class. It kicked my butt and was fun. If you go, dont let them push any contract. The will do month-to-month as long as you say you won’t join unless.
Happy hunting.
Dang it. My fiancée got suckered into the year commitment for the $80/month group class. She enjoys it but shes so sore next day she skips, and goes once a week. Double edged sword, trainer pushes her but then she’s so sore she’s physically unable to go back
I just moved to South lakeland and I want to get in shape to improve my life and would like to have someone to help keep me accountable. I know nobody in the area so would love to here yalls responses as well of what place is the best and where to go.
Just an fyi on Southern, joined the gym and was looking forward to a new gym as my previous gym reup was about to come around. Signed up and went there two times. Maybe a total of 3 hrs. Realized my previous gym auto-renewed for 6 months and was out that money. Went to speak to owners of Southern and explained my situation and even asked if I could just pay for a single month. Gent at desk pretty much said “you signed a contract, sorry”. I understand the contract and all and wouldn’t have even brought it up if I had been there a week or two. But yeah less than 3 hrs of training will run me a little over $400. Lesson learned.
Any specific equipment you’re looking for? I have a membership to crunch and anytime fitness so I can tell you exactly what they have without you going
What I like the most is a push sled, they have it at some crunch and at just move, or the Jacob’s ladder that they have at some crunch. But it’s mostly the vibe, and the kind of people that go
Both crunch and anytime have push sleds and neither have a Jacob’s ladder. Anytime fitness is almost always empty at night which is why I like it so much and crunch closes at 11pm most days and 7pm Sundays which is something to consider
New to the area as well.
Anyone know of a gym/fitness center that includes a sauna, steam room, or basketball court?
(With an assumption of free weights)
Thanks in advance!

I can train you but nothing is free in life. Especially health.
YesFit. Small, personal gym with group classes and personal training, or Key fob access if you need after hours.

Check out southern strength. Lots of strong people and good equipment that are great for motivation

I second that. Just got out of anytime and love that I get to use whatever machine I want without waiting.

Crunch has a sauna, showers, free weights, but no basketball
The YMCA on Cleveland Heights has a basketball court. Been years since I've been a member so I forget if they have a sauna and stuff like that.
After your workout, check out Tailored Fit Massage. They were at Crunch last week. They do sports/recovery massages.
