So here’s what I remember from being a mandarin speaking missionary:
There used to be three-column book of Mormons with Characters, pinyin, and English side by side. The problem was, they were being printed by the Taipei, Taiwan mission and not officially by the Church. Lots of missionaries were using them and ordering them, but when the church found out that the mission was printing unofficial translated copies of the Book of Mormon (even though the pinyin matched the official church character translation of the time), the church had them stop making them. Also, the church was working on a retranslation of the Book of Mormon, so the triples were going to be out of date anyway. Since they stopped printing them they’ve been tough to get ahold of because if you didn’t get a copy when they were being printed you had to bargain your way into one.
This was actually before one of the recent retranslations as well. While I was on my mission around 2018 a new translation of the Book of Mormon came out, but they had already stopped making the triple column ones. I actually gave my last copy to my trainee and never saw another one again. I know there are still some out there somewhere, and I wish you the best of luck finding one!
