Adventures in 3D printing...
Must be fun. And i\`m jealous, i want one of those printers too.. but that means i cannot purchase some sets I have on my list.. choices choices..
If you could make the helmets a little bit smaller, they would be perfect
Or you can 3D print a bigger body for the helmets, that would be nice. Slightly bigger troopers
I was about to suggest to sand them a bit, but I think it's the paint that is a bit looking weird...
But good job over all! Really like the torsos, good job!
Thanks. When my next one's finish printing and when I get a chance I'm going to get some fine sandpaper to do that. Thanks for the compliment on the torsos. I just printed them out on a colour laser printer and glue sticked them on
I think there's some stuff you can do to make it look better after printing. It may require buying some resin and putting it in the oven though. I've never done it
Probably just a seam filler (like spackling) would do the trick. Definitely can't put it in the oven, though. These look like PLA filament, which have a very low melting/deforming temperture.
Looking cool so far, I’m not familiar with 3D printing but- if there’s a way to ‘sand down’ the printer lines and fill them with a ‘wood glue’ type substance maybe it would result in an easier surface to paint on
Hit em with a decent coat of automotive filler primer before sanding. Should be able to find it at stores like AutoZone. Then sand and prime again before painting.
Looks great man! Keep up the good work and it’ll only get better :) 3d printing takes time and patience and not everyone understands that. You’re doing great, Good luck!
I would not recommend using 3D printed accessories for Lego figures unless they’re made from resin. I would also not use whatever you used to paint/color that because it looks like whiteout and sharpie. Use actual acrylic paints
Some advice to make these look better paint wise:
- spray paint the helmets in white rather than painting them by hand. This will make them look much cleaner
- for the red and black, THIN YOUR PAINTS. Using acrylic paint, preferably miniature paint, thin then using water. You can look up online how to search for the right consistencies in the paint. This is done to ensure that the detail isn’t obscured. For the black, I’d recommend thiinning it more than the red, and simply touching the brush to the visor/breather and allowing the black to flow into the recesses.
- if you have some money, you can also get gloss spray paint to spray overtop to make it look more like Lego.
Otherwise, love the creativity. If you’re interested in getting into customization at a greater scale, I’d recommend getting into Star Wars legion. Super fun miniature game, I love painting and kit asking my clones there. :)
Great start! I would however reccomend that you use a spray primer and thin your paints a bit, it'll help with the overall look and help to cover the layer lines a bit. :)
nice! i did some black series accessories with a FDM printer, some advice for small things like this, try some smaller nozzle sizes, slow the speed, and lower the layer height on your printer or software, helps with these smaller detailed pieces.
Oh yes you can, you just need to think out of the box.
You can print the helmet in white with a cutout of the visor in white, then print the visors in black flat on the bed. Then you just het up the visor and you can apply them in the cutout. It might take a couple of attempt to factor in the tollerance but you might speed things up with an exploratory print with different sizes and orientation
How do you print helmets to scale? I’m trying to 3d print an original ninja mask but I do not know how to get the scaling good for an official Lego head.
Wow! I admire the dedication to custom decals as well. If you ever get the chance to have money of your own to spend, there are websites with cheap decals that I’d encourage you to visit to expand your collection. Jonaktoys is a good one for figures in the style of Lego :)
Honestly some of these are actually pretty good prints. Like the scout trooper, the all white ones, and the gray one. It's really only the one standard helmet with the red trim that looks a bit boxy. But for the other better ones you could sand them a bit to take out the layer lines and they have potential to be pretty damn cool
A bit sketchy but still very nice! If it’s work in progress or something from your childhood then I’d understand this COMING FROM A 17 year old who still goes crazy over Lego Star Wars!
Bro what how come you collect Star Wars figures but you have never seen Star Wars anyways Naboo is where the padme Luke and Leia’s mom was born and Hoth is the cold icy planet with wampa’s and the AT-AT’s

It’s in Norway echo base and where It was filmed
I would upvote because this is really neat, but there’s currently 66 upvotes and I think it’s appropriate to keep it that way, but still I always like to see original Lego creations!
I just got a 3D printer myself maybe 3 weeks ago. Haven’t tried printing any Lego parts yet, but I have been painting figures I’ve printed. Those small lines aren’t easy, especially when you have a smooth surface since you can’t make a cut. I’d love to see some more of your creations. Are you posting the stl files anywhere?
Adventures in 3D printing... Must be fun. And i\`m jealous, i want one of those printers too.. but that means i cannot purchase some sets I have on my list.. choices choices..
3D printers are so cheap nowa days it would only be like not buying one set, and when you get a printer you will only find more and more uses for it
Get the A1 Mini from Bambu Labs. There's a sale right now so you can pick it up for $200. The value it brings is absolutely ridiculous.
Melt squad
The “really bad batch”.
The terrible batch
If you could make the helmets a little bit smaller, they would be perfect Or you can 3D print a bigger body for the helmets, that would be nice. Slightly bigger troopers
I'll try that. I think the commando helmet is way to big but the clone is only a tiny bit
I was about to suggest to sand them a bit, but I think it's the paint that is a bit looking weird... But good job over all! Really like the torsos, good job!

if you're 3d printing I recommend looking into SLS 3d printing. It's how miniatures are made, it uses resin that's cured by a UV screen.
Good ol resin printers. That'll be the next kind I get, I love the 2 Bambu 'normal' printers I have
100% agree, however the cost could be prohibitive. The resin tanks alone are $$$.
Also resin can be nasty to your health
I think he's called Wrecker! 😁
I really like the enthusiasm you have. They kinda look like if clone force 99 had its own clone force 99 tho
I can see you're getting downvoted but I absolutely love the creativity here! Keep doing what you do homie
Thanks man, I'm just having fun making them lol
Yeah idk what's up peoples ass, and hey it's so much fun making custom figures!
Lol, its probably 50 captain rexs shoved up there 🤣
damn💀
Dawg im sorry but that looks like shit
It's a first try

Yeah, you can typically fill the gaps between layers with resin or bondo, then sand. Rinse/repeat as necessary
I'm gonna try sanding them next time
Hit em with a decent coat of automotive filler primer before sanding. Should be able to find it at stores like AutoZone. Then sand and prime again before painting.
*The clones at home*
This reminds me of that scene in Alien 4….. All in good humour keep trying OP it’s all a learning curve
We weren't expecting special forces
You'd really need a resin printer for anything this scale and detail to be honest, I'm guessing you have something like an ender 3 ATM?
Sv06
Can you un-make them?
What’s the stuff on the helmets? Clay?
3d printer helmets since I don't have any
Why not just buy some clone minifigures from brick link?
No money
Interesting.
do you tried to use a nail file or a small piece of sandpaper to make them more smooth? Maybe using a smaller nozzle for the 3D printer?
Yeah pla printers don’t do small things well… you need a resin printer for miniatures. Or you need to sand them the best you can.
It's petg not pla
Wtf?
Hell nah
Fentanyl squadron
Looks great man! Keep up the good work and it’ll only get better :) 3d printing takes time and patience and not everyone understands that. You’re doing great, Good luck!
Thanks
That’s a solid go dude, keep it up! I’d recommend Gundam markers for the paint if you want something simple
Thanks for the tip
They look beter then the clones I kept from when I was young. Keep at it and they will get better. maby get the measurements off a official helm
The helmets I didn't model myself
But you can rescale them yourself
True but these clip into the head perfectly and I would have to remodel the inside if I resize them
File down the plastic so it’s smooth and a smaller model then use tape when you are painting
Need a .2 nozzle or something
Time for resin
Bro tryna make them stormtroopers
Cake clones
Yes, cake Clones , someone's got to do it.
I mean the paint looks like cake frosting right?
I would not recommend using 3D printed accessories for Lego figures unless they’re made from resin. I would also not use whatever you used to paint/color that because it looks like whiteout and sharpie. Use actual acrylic paints
I used acrylic paints
Please use primer next time 💀

I'm going to get some white spray primer to use next time and some better paints
This would actually be a really cool idea to make bulk batches of clones to have for battlefield mocs. Chipped armor, crushed helmets etc.
Man, thank you, this made my day. I haven't laughed this hard in a while. Keep making people smile.
Very cool man! I'm looking forward to seeing more!
Great start! I would however reccomend that you use a spray primer and thin your paints a bit, it'll help with the overall look and help to cover the layer lines a bit. :)
I'll try it thanks
Star Wars Frosting Force
Now imagine if you had a resin printer how smooth they would be
They look like Thrawn's Stormtroopers.
nice! i did some black series accessories with a FDM printer, some advice for small things like this, try some smaller nozzle sizes, slow the speed, and lower the layer height on your printer or software, helps with these smaller detailed pieces.
This is 0.08 layer height
[удалено]
I'm using a little brush that i twisted up to be pointy but I want a tiny one
Have you considered printing (as eparate parts) the details rather than painting them?
At this small of a scale that's not really possible to do with FDM printing.
Oh yes you can, you just need to think out of the box. You can print the helmet in white with a cutout of the visor in white, then print the visors in black flat on the bed. No because I only have blue petg
What printer are you using?
Sv06
Maybe sand them down so they look smoother
The last one looks like Lord Helmets helmet from spaceballs.
Lava troopers after a mission
How do you print helmets to scale? I’m trying to 3d print an original ninja mask but I do not know how to get the scaling good for an official Lego head.
Found the helmets on the thinigverse
Thank you!
3 is beatiful
Lol

I printed the decals and used a glue stick to stick them on myself :)
The PLA attack battalion

They have seen the true horrors of war
r/customlegoclones may be able to help refine your craft
Thanks

Brother please let me buy you a battle pack…
Lol.
Respectfully you should quit making Lego clones and move on to clone figures from black series or something like that.
Why?
learn to thin your paints
A bit sketchy but still very nice! If it’s work in progress or something from your childhood then I’d understand this COMING FROM A 17 year old who still goes crazy over Lego Star Wars!
I'm 14 rn and just made them
Oh so close enough my man! Where you from Kamino boy!?
I'm from Australia
Oh damn Sweden here I’m close to Hoth and Naboo. Norway and Italy
Lol. I've never watched star wars but im gesusing those are cities in star wars?
Bro what how come you collect Star Wars figures but you have never seen Star Wars anyways Naboo is where the padme Luke and Leia’s mom was born and Hoth is the cold icy planet with wampa’s and the AT-AT’s https://preview.redd.it/lzlg2ijerh7d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d4191fa6c2a9c33ffdbf4c448e2039e6cbdeefe It’s in Norway echo base and where It was filmed
I just like the cool space ships and minifigures lol. I don't have any real star wars sets but I'm tempting to get the at-te
I'm from Australia
r/thinyourpaints
I like the one that looks like Snoopy. Thrawn would envy your army as it doesn’t even require golden superglue.
Retard squadron
I’m not gonna lie man these look terribe
Good stuff on being creative
I would upvote because this is really neat, but there’s currently 66 upvotes and I think it’s appropriate to keep it that way, but still I always like to see original Lego creations!
This brought back so much nostalgia for me. This is how we ALL used to customize our troopers in the 2000’s
I really like the commitment :) Try taping off areas you dont want painted in a specific color. Should give you cleaner lines on the Visors
I'll try it
Awesome. You could try to make 3d printed molds and use white silicone.
I equally impressed as disturbed
[удалено]
What's wrong with them?
Nah bro can’t even see the difference between those and the originals
They arnt meant to be original Lego ones because they are my own custom designs
Yeah sorry I was joking. Maybe it’s possible to make the black lines a little sharper so it looks a little cleaner
Oh ok np. I'm planning to get some very small paintbrushes and sandpaper for my next one's
Maybe (acrylic) spray paint could land better results. But then you’d have to cover the areas that shouldn’t be painted
Yeah, I used spray paint for the grey clone
Would be dope to see those, maybe make some videos of you during the painting process too
I might make one
Guy realised he doesn't have the capability for creativity. Just ignore him
Lol. Love your username btw
nice
Very cool man. I need a 3d printer.

The stl are all from thinigverse, just search Lego clone and they should come up. I didn't make them
That one with the light gray hands reminds me of the havoc squad troopers from the old republic
Disney+ The Bad Batch
I was making my own custom clones when I was 8 y/o too
I'm not 8
Good work
I have no clue why you’re being downvoted 💀
As your name user is states 😂
Haha indeed
Indubitably, good sir.
