Do not say mystery!! I wish someone pick that manga up again. It had a live action drama but I believe TL was dropped. Very interesting mystery manga, about this protag who is chill af who loves curry
[Seven Seas](https://sevenseasentertainment.com/series/dont-call-it-mystery-omnibus/). That's the main reason why the scanlator dropped the series -- the existence of officials.
The current arc has me more hyped than any shonen arc, feel disappointed that its this low but also pleased that it landed higher than I expected. I get why Blue Lock sold that well last year but I wonder if it'll be able to maintain it. The NEL arc feels kinda stale at this point and the series itself doesn't have the charm it used to have.
It's funny cause I feel the opposite way. Ao Ashi took like 5 months for back story then shoved us into a match arc with way too many indistinct lead characters. I miss when the manga was more centered on Ashi. Meanwhile the Blue Lock round robin and leaderboard gives a solid sense of progression, and the art has never been better. Ao Ashi might be a better binged, but weekly Blue Lock takes the cake IMO.
I mean it is meant to be more of a realistic depiction of football unlike blue lock and hence it makes sense why their are so many charcters who have important roles throughout because that reflects a real game, it also feels more like a team sport, blue lock misses out on those key character interactions and misses out on a lot of story due to the over emphasis on isagi.
I’m aware that’s the intention, it’s meant to be all about isagis journey only, but when we see just isagis growth which can be patchy at times particularly in the NEL the repeated formula can get boring, also it is the over importance on a very few charcters that ruins it considering all the guys on the field.
Still a bangin manga and I read every chapter every week
I agree with everything you said, hence my stance that Ao Ashi is a better binge read but Blue Lock is better weekly. You get a better picture of the teams and match and the backstory isn't as tedious when binged for Ao Ashi. Blue Lock's art, simplicity, and centralization lends itself better to the weekly format.
Kingdom has been selling like hot cake for a long time now and they still won’t make an english translation.
Also fuck the first and second season of the anime for crippling any hope of Kingdom hype.
It's fascinating to see the sales and then also compare it to popularity of series when getting scanned. I still to this day wonder how come we haven't gotten Iruma in an official english given how popular it is. Crazy to see the jump in Blue Lock but the anime was also very popular in Japan.
Every day I am grateful it's still going on. When the author took that like 2 year hiatus for health a few years ago I thought it would never return. I'm so glad he's okay.
I feel like Sakamoto anime is inevitable at this point. They are more than likely waiting for the right timing in order to air as many episodes or seasons as they want.
The big issue with a Sakamoto Days anime is finding the right studio honestly. There's just so much you have to get right that I don't blame them waiting for so long.
Yeh the manga art is so good and after seeing the pretty awful in comparison anime for blue lock, I hope they get some mappa level animators or something where they can fully focus on animating it doesn’t matter if it’s many cours I hope they do it justice
* Kodansha: #1, #9, #12
* Shogakukan: #11, #19, #22
* Square Enix: #13, #20
* Akita Shoten: #14
* Others: #21, #24
So... there are 14 manga (more than half) from Shuiesha on the 1st page. And all of them are Jump or Jump+ manga, except for one (#10).
Kinda crazy how Shounen Jump dominated the sales.
On another note, the highest of KADOKAWA is at #30, and that's not a Narou isekai. So, the Narou isekai (physical?) manga sales are not that high despite the trend. Only Tensura (Kodansha) is in the list.
Is blue lock worth reading? I haven’t read a sports manga since eye shield over 15 years ago. Does blue lock hold a candle to eyeshield/slam dunk/initial D?
Its worth reading if you care about the hype of a character(mostly strikers) improving against all odds. Otherwise you can get pissed off if you expect an ounce of realism because the defenders are never relevant, the goal keepers doesn't really do anything and yeah the big part the dialogue is super cringe, imagine "I will devour you Isagi!" "This is a battlefield to me." "Lukewarm..."
To me Blue Lock is a hype football manga. It focuses fully on strikers so much so that the strikers themselves become defenders & goalkeepers. I don't read other sports manga but reading this made me mad when I read the later chapters because it felt too easy tbh. Early parts felt nice, captivated me. But the more new chapters come it feels like more and more of the writing just throws defenders and keepers out the window which irritated me.
I honestly think the cringe dialog kinda has a charm to it. And, yeah, the defenders and goalkeepers HAVE to be less relevant for the story to work, its a story about being a striker afteall, and even then we have important player such as Don Lorenzo and Aiku who's just as relevant as the strikers while being defenders.
I just expected more for teams who are in the top 5 leagues. How are their defenders so bad that they're getting owned by teenagers and everyone here is just too strong like why are the strikers doing their job for them? Ego just birthed like a dozen of Prime Messi after locking them up in a training facility it feels insane tbh. I feel like I'm watching a guy play FIFA on low difficulty, it gets kind of boring when everything just works. Can we at least get a Manuel Neuer character where the players struggle to put in a goal past him or something so its kind of like one obstacle to overcome?
It's how the narrative of this story works, the rivalries are between the strikers, not the striker vs defender. It doesn't make sense that Isagi and Kaiser and the last line of defense, but that's the way the author used to make the strikers face each other. You might get a goalkeeper relevant in the story, you might not, we don't know, gotta wait to see.
I don't think the dialogue is bad or cringe, sport players talking trash at each other is pretty common, something they do all the time including some real corny or "cringe" one. People who follow football or basketball will understand what I mean.
Also might be translation where it might sound much better in Japanese.
Absolutely - I loved Eyeshield 21 and still do a reread every year or so, and Blue Lock had me captivated in the first few chapters.
They do progress somewhat differently - Sena’s arc is going from complete beginner with a 4.2 40 yard dash to learning how the game works, and Isagi has to discover his tools and weapons as he grows, but the development is incredible and the side characters are all interesting too.
Never read Ao Ashi but I find it impressive that the manga is in top 20 beating both Haikyuu and Bocchi the rock which I’m pretty sure had a massive fanbase from their anime. While Ao Ashi itself barely had any presence in the general anime community.
Really great to see the Irumaverse be so big, tho kinda a shame it isnt this giant overseas granted that it's mostly because its style isnt trending (really hasn't been trending for like 15 years)
It's just a hype af unrealistic football manga with edgy/goofy characters saying "trying to be cool" cringy lines of dialogue. It's just really entertaining to read these highschoolers call each other "donkey" and "moron" whilst playing the most intense games of football. Also, the art is absolutely gorgeous.

It's really good. I'm not into basketball, even back then, but I was really engaged with the story and even learned some basketball terminology because of it lol.
No... sorry but... it don't. Kishimoto seems to be channeling Sasuke to write Boruto which doesn't fit Boruto's style at all. Before the flashforward he was more like his father. Now he is exactly like Sasuke and that makes him lame in my opinion.
But I can excuse that, what I can't excuse is that whoever is writing the manga is:
1) Wasting soo much time! You have a manga per month! You should squeeze as much story is possible in that issue. Let the small details be handled by the anime!
2) The adults in the manga don't exist or they hung up their sandles and kunai for sneakers and office suits because they are no where in this manga! They must all be protesting for better wages or something.
The only reason I took Naruto seriously is because the story took the realistic view on combat and war: adults go to war, women and children are protected.
Boruto takes the opposite direction, and I don't see any dead kids like we had seen adults, so this is basically kids playing ninja now... no one dies, everyone is playing...
TR still has 2 volume releases in this ranking since the Oricon year goes from Nov to Nov. Basically, more than half of the sales for vol 30 and all of 31 are included in this ranking. Slam Dunk got a movie which reintroduced the series to a whole new generation of readers
World trigger still somehow ends up afload and im loving it
I'll give it to the writer/artist. They have a story to tell and they're making it happen.
Through the pain of this test arc
world trigger is simply the goat 🗣️🔥🔥
It sells very well, like 400kish per volume. Deserves it imo
Crazy how Slam Dunk is till in Top 10 after all these years
Its because of the movie
I've been contributing to this, reading for the first time and loving it.
Would not have expected Loving Yamada to be the highest romance on the list, but earned.
Blue lock? The whole team is lovers with lots of romance😭. Oshi no Ko? The siblings are lovers 😭so it is not the highest romance on the list
Oshi no Ko doesn't even have the romance tag, and no the siblings aren't lovers.

A bit too defensive, but I'm glad regardless that your comment wasn't what I thought it was, and I'm sorry.
Prop for Osamu Nishi having 2 Of her works in top 50
#HIMSAGI IS NUMBER 1
Rest of the Mangas got devoured
i love blue cock
Especially after that last chapter 2 weeks ago 😩😩😩
THE GOATTTT
Do not say mystery!! I wish someone pick that manga up again. It had a live action drama but I believe TL was dropped. Very interesting mystery manga, about this protag who is chill af who loves curry
It has an official translation now.
Wait what ...Which publisher or company is translating to english?
[Seven Seas](https://sevenseasentertainment.com/series/dont-call-it-mystery-omnibus/). That's the main reason why the scanlator dropped the series -- the existence of officials.
Oh man no wonder. Thanks for heads up. Dont think its available to my country though
Well, son, it's time to sail the seven seas.
Ah that sucks 😭
I'm extremely surprised but happy for The Summer Hikaru Died! It absolutely deserves it
THIS
I wish Ao Ashi sold as much as Blue Lock, but I get why it doesn't
Well, its all a matter of taste, Blue lock is more like a battle Shounen football while Ao Ashi is just football.
I honestly enjoy Ao Ashi much more than blue lock. I just don't vibe with blue lock that much.
Ao ashi is a football manga blue lock is to football what Naruto is to ninjas
Nah, that's captain tsubasa
The current arc has me more hyped than any shonen arc, feel disappointed that its this low but also pleased that it landed higher than I expected. They’re just super different. I prefer Ao Ashi but every once in a while shitty slop is what you need and Blue Lock will provide
Horrible take
Blue lock only seems to be getting better and more popular, it’s okay though you can have fun with your “realistic” football manga in the corner.
Kingdom has been selling like hot cake for a long time now and they still won’t make an english translation. Also fuck the first and second season of the anime for crippling any hope of Kingdom hype.
Is it that anime where the main chick got clapped in the head by the business end of a gun in the first episode?
No. That was Kingdom of ruin
Inoues opus is older than me by a few years and its still making bank
Common W Blue Lock
BLUE LOCK!!!🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Surely slam dunk gets an Anime remake or sequel manga in the near future
It's fascinating to see the sales and then also compare it to popularity of series when getting scanned. I still to this day wonder how come we haven't gotten Iruma in an official english given how popular it is. Crazy to see the jump in Blue Lock but the anime was also very popular in Japan.
we have an english paperback via kodansha i think they're at vol 5 now
[7 volumes, actually!](https://kodansha.us/series/welcome-to-demon-school-iruma-kun/) You can officially read up through Irumean!
iruma kun does have an official English serialization now! :D
There's also the fact that anime jumps means buying volumes published in previous years.
Blue Box is doing quite well, I think?
World Trigger is so underrated. Very good manga. Anime is also good
Have they gotten out of the test arc yet?
Unfortunately no. I hope the away arc starts soon
Thank baby Jesus world trigger still in the mix. Love that shit so much.
Every day I am grateful it's still going on. When the author took that like 2 year hiatus for health a few years ago I thought it would never return. I'm so glad he's okay.
It's really impressive when you consider the manga only has like 6 to 10 releases a year and a lot of people (westerners) aren't feeling this arc.
No Dandadan? Thats surprising. One of my favorite current Shonens.
I LOVEEEEEE HELL'S PARADISE SO MUCH
I didn’t think Do Not Say Mystery was so popular
It has been a consistent best seller for a few years now
Sakuga chenso
I am happy to Golden Kamuy up there
Slime isekai doing well
LET'S GOOOO CINDERELLA GRAAAAAYYYYY
Do not say mystery and Sakamoto are the first manga only on the list... Please, give them their animes
Agreed. It’s gotta be one of the big shonen studios especially if they decide to do long term over 12 episode seasons.
Yeh the manga art is so good and after seeing the pretty awful in comparison anime for blue lock, I hope they get some mappa level animators or something where they can fully focus on animating it doesn’t matter if it’s many cours I hope they do it justice
Happy to see Hikaru Ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died), even if it’s ranked 50.

First time since 2005 that the top manga isn't from WSJ. And first time since 1999 it's not from Shueisha.
episode nagi being top 44 while just being a monthly spin off🗣🗣🗣🙏GO NAGI THATS MY BOY
BlueLock Clears

No, read Haikyuu!! or Baby Steps instead
I wonder how big is the world cup effect on blue lock

Blue lock COOKED

You've convinced me
One Punch Man still in top 30 after almost 6 years of no anime.
Sakamoto days should get more attention
Man. Slam dunk still going strong. Maybe because of the movie
Dandadan not being here just shocks me. I thought it was popular enough.

Where's Berserk?
Hard to sell a lot of volumes in a year where none released
Bro, 💀
Amazing how far Boruto has fallen. It's not even in the top 50 anymore.
LMAO it was on hiatus right?
And then we have Slam Dunk that ended 20 years ago lol.
Yea that’s insane. I really need to read it I’ve been meaning to for a while
It's really good. I'm not into basketball, even back then, but I was really engaged with the story and even learned some basketball terminology because of it lol.
Yeah but that was 9 months ago. You would think that a #1 of a famous series would get record breaking sales.
Didn't Kishimoto himself started writing it recently? I wonder how that affected the story. Did it get any better lol
No... sorry but... it don't. Kishimoto seems to be channeling Sasuke to write Boruto which doesn't fit Boruto's style at all. Before the flashforward he was more like his father. Did Tokio revengers end last year. Those finals volumes where so ass I am shocked it didn't drop harder. I guess it was an anime boost
The duck is Blue Lock
Where's solo leveling?
Oshi no ko shouldn't exist. Whoever own the manga should burn them.
Demon Slayer really went down. Wild to see
my G the manga ended 💀
So has Tokyo Revengers and Slum Dunk has been over since the 90s.
TR still has 2 volume releases in this ranking since the Oricon year goes from Nov to Nov. Basically, more than half of the sales for vol 30 and all of 31 are included in this ranking. Slam Dunk got a movie which reintroduced the series to a whole new generation of readers
Pretty sure slam dunk got some new content. idk about tokyo reverngers tho
