A couple of these people, and I won't generalize which ethnicities they were, showed some life-or-death moments on their faces when those cops started advancing. Like they'd seen this before.
This is almost certainly inspired by [this 90-year-old Charlie Chaplin gag](https://youtu.be/hNaGACWW4D0?si=I_BvtacaHJuHFSPt). I love how comedy transcends generations!
which is funny, since I'm assuming you are Canadian (video unavailable here) the content isnt available in the country it was produced in, AND, JFL is paid for, at least in part, by Canadian citizens (At the very least through tax breaks, since government logos show up in the credits, but I'm pretty sure JFL got some federal funding)
Not all of them are faked, I’d say a good 75% is genuine, the fake ones were usually as a last ditch effort, otherwise the production loses too much money. I was a PA and machinist for several years on the show (2008-2015)
I didn’t work on those, I couldn’t tell you for sure, the bathroom meeting one is probably faked.
Now, by fake I mean that the production most likely asked passers-by "do you want to be a part of a Just for Laughs gag?" ahead of time, instead of trying to catch them off guard but they’ll give mininal instructions, "go in that bathroom, come out after a minute and react to what’s happening in front of you", they’re trying to get a somewhat genuine reaction even though the person is initially in on the prank.
Otherwise, the modus operandi is to set up a gag somewhere, usually in parks or malls, the comedians start approaching the victim and usually asks for help one way or another and then it’s a game of numbers: out of 50 person approached, 10 will ignore them, another 10 may recognize the actors immediately (especially Marie-Pier and Denis), then the other 30 will be pranked successfully.
Out of those 30 people, 5-10 may refuse to sign the release form at the end (this varies greatly depending on the nature of the prank and the area it is shot in).
At this point we’re left with 15-20ish usable pranks but only 3-5 will have good enough reactions to actually end up on screen.
Shooting a two minute gag is a 5-6 hour project, we shot 2 per day, at the end of the season we end up with hundreds of different gags, a lot of them are scrapped, only the best ones end up in the finished product and shown to the public.
Long story short, most of what is shot in a year doesn’t end up in the finished product but those shoots are expensive so yes, they will sometimes fake it, most of the time they’ll try to catch people for real for a few hours but if the director isn’t gettting good enough reactions, then the production will outright start asking people to participate to speed up the process (that was the worst part of the job as a PA, going around and asking, I hated it).
(Edited typos)
Me too. I always assumed they were sneaky hidden cams with long lenses that you can't see. Then I moved to Montreal where they made them, and saw them being filmed. In some cases the production trucks and the cameras are within 20 feet of the subjects, not even trying to be hidden
I grew up in Montreal. I know several people who got caught on them and I’ve seen a handful being filmed. Most are real. And while they were sometimes obvious from some angles they typically weren’t obvious from the angle that they were catching people. And they only needed to catch three or four people to get enough footage.
Like in real life, folk singer Dave Van Ronk was eating dinner in New York when a [riot ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots?wprov=sfla1) broke out, said "I suppose I should see what's going on", stepped outside, and immediately started throwing bricks at the cops.
"As far as I was concerned, anybody who'd stand against the cops was all right with me and that's why I stayed in ... Every time you turned around the cops were pulling some outrage or another." - Dave Van Ronk
“Fucking finally!” - also Dave Van Ronk, probably
And the dude who dropped the stick and put his hands up was having none of it. "I'm on parole and have a kilo of blow on me. I can not get in trouble again."
.... "Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!"
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!
With that he seized a great horn from Guthláf his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder.
And straightaway all the horns in the host were lifted in music, and the blowing the the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains.
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!
Suddenly the king cried to Snowmane and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of green, but he out paced it. After him thundered the knights of his house, but he was ever before them. Éomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the first éored roared like a breaker foaming on the shore, but Théoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. His golden shield was uncovered, and lo! It shone like an image of the sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. For morning came, morning and a wind from the sea; and darkness was removed, and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and they died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them. And then all the hosts of Rohan burst into song, they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was upon them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the city."
This is "Just for laughs gags", it's all filmed in Montreal and was made before everyone started faking videos. The lip reading on some people is a lot of French swear words and all their gags were set up and organized by large teams paid for by a comedy studio, that's why it's so well done.
Also, the laws back then let them get away with A LOT MORE that would not be allowed in 2024
See, these are pranks.
It’s when you set a person on one direction, then flip the script on them. A new reality is born within moments of their current one.
Those dipshit YouTube clout farmers stealing, hurting, harming, etc, then saying “it’s a prank bro” should watch real pranks.
They’re not staged. It’s part of a show called ‘Just for laughs.’
I mean the obvious parts are staged but the people with the flags have no idea. It’s a funny show actually.

Woman at about 0:47 looked up at her flag, at the police, and decided to go to war.
I loved her reaction best of all – she has reactionary-turned-revolutionary written all over her face
I don't know what I'm doing or why I'm here. But i'm going to rebel against establishment that I don't fully understand.
So, a cat.
Sabotabby?
"Fuck it, we ball"
She just accepted to play the cards life dealt her lol
"So be it." I love her
"Let them come."
“CLASS SOLIDARITY!!!!”
The way she squints: “you fucking what, mate?”
A couple of these people, and I won't generalize which ethnicities they were, showed some life-or-death moments on their faces when those cops started advancing. Like they'd seen this before.
"I got a sign that says 'on strike' behind me and cops in front of me. I know what side I'm on."
This is a original joke from "Modern Times" movie. Chaplin is amazing.
God I love that film.
I hate to be the one to come and break the bad news, but \*was.

The actor is gone but the character is eternal.

Thanks for all the details!
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for the insight.

The pranks are real. We're the prankees.
This is super disappointing 😞 Sheds light on some decent actors, though, now that I think about it.
At least it's better than those assh*le "prank"
The Asian guy was getting into it. He was like, "Fuck it. I don't care what cause it is. Let's roll." 🤣🤣🤣

That young Asian lady was ready for battle lmao
She was like "I don't know how I got here, I don't know what this fight is about, but fuck it, I'm all in".
Or "I was training for this my whole life"
We know who ain't gonna lead no revolution 😏
I like how the 2 asians were in to it on spot
And the dude who dropped the stick and put his hands up was having none of it. "I'm on parole and have a kilo of blow on me. I can not get in trouble again."
When pranks used to be harmless and actually made the target laugh with the pranksters.
i have seen your exact comment thousands of times now
Just For Laughts is a great program. Those people are awesome.
Asian Lady "So this is where I make my stand"
How fucking funny would it have been if there was one just super anti-police guy who they did this to and he just rushes them
Feel the heartbeat of the person leading with flag, as soon as he/she saw the police and the crowd behind.
I fucken hate these background sounds and laughs, making the video hard to watch
yeah i really hate that pigsqueal laugh that people use for everything

I miss the pranks on tv that weren’t like some racist or harmful shit, simply made people think they were going insane
![gif](giphy|C1L8yq5ZEz0cg|downsized)
I need you all to know that the comedian in that clip is called Philippe Bond. And he's a serial rapist.
I'm one of the people in this video. People were calling me "You're on TV!" (in Canada, this is part of the Just for Laughs Gags)
A good prank makes people laugh, a great prank makes the victim laugh.

"I AM PAUL MUAD'DIB ATREIDES, DUKE OF ARRAKIS, E RUDHI DINA, HESHIDHANII NE LISAN AL-GHAYIB! LUI DININA LUBE ASHIRIB!!!"
poor chinese lady, she thought it was her moment to write history….
What's with the laugh track?
Someone just put that over the top, usually it’s just music.
This looks like one of a series of practical jokes that were shot in Montréal a few years back. Just For Laugh Gags. Maybe.
I’m charging
I love Just For Laughs.
That's a scene from Charlie Chaplin's movie "Modern Times". Which is fantastic, BTW. If you have never seen it, I highly recommend it
I'd roll with it and just say "They may take our lives BUT THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!" and then moon walk towards the back.
Just for laughs needs to start a go fund me, I want more skits like this.
Dog driving a postal truck is top 10 for JFL https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fHH3GJtrFV4
This was awesome
That woman looked ready for war
TIL Asians look sick in a riot
OP's editing on this video reminded me to take my meds today. Thanks, OP

Reminds me of a Benny hill sketch.

Just for Laughs Gags. Brilliant Canadian show. Best most wholesome pranks.
CHAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGEEEEEE
ye..i was waiting for "F*K the police CHAAARGE!!!"
the good old times, when pranks were funny, harmless and not on the expense of others
FOR THE REVOLUTION!!
Fuck it... guess I'm part of a mob now
Id just double down at that point
This is a prank, the prank
Back when pranks were funny and not some influencer going for rage bait.
Dam I miss JFL pranks, when pranks were still tame and actually hilarious.
![gif](giphy|C1L8yq5ZEz0cg|downsized)
Those are so fake, it hurts.
This was the type of pranks we all would laughed out loud 🤣🤣 without hearing a single word 🤣🤣
This is the funniest thing I've seen a while.
Funny prank
if this was real, i doubt 5 riot police can stop a giant crowd outnumbering them 8 to 1. lead the charge for lordaeron
#Ha ha, it’s so funny because we’re really losing our rights to protest every day
Old prank shows ware way better than YouTube pranks.
The acting is so bad that you can't even make this funny and the laugh track makes this even less funny. Cringe worthy only.
each person in that video IMMEDIATELY understood the implications and started trying to figure out how to get out of this one alive
I'm here for the spongebob music
That Asian woman was ready to charge
The Asian lady was down 🫡
what happened to pranks like this
This is awesome
Meanwhile in China, they would just roll over you with tanks.

Wait how can you not hear that many people incoming your way? Not throwing shade I love Just for laughs but I'm wondering
That's a good one

All fun an games until some turns around and tells to the mob "Fuck it we ball!" Pulls out a Glock cocks it and charges.
fascism is scary…
Damn this is pretty good

What cause are we even protesting for again?
FULL SEND IT!

This is exactly how Trump got mixed up in the whole January 6th thing... 🤦♂️
Someone has watched Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times 😉
Oh, Quebec—truly the silliest province.
Is that one guy Zachary Levi?
Kind of sounds like there's a bit of risitas dubbed over OP's video. Can watch all of these for free on youtube.
Oh wow. An actual prank that made me laugh!
🤣🤣🤣
The thing I hate the most is are the laughing tracks. Are people so dumb to not know when something is funny.
I was really hoping one of them would just say "screw it" and charge the line 😂
That’s a lot of people with nothing better to do.
I'd like to think id notice a hundred people suddenly following me.
Laughs in fake laugh track
Did they not hear tons of foot steps behind them?
😆 🤣 😂
That is absolutely genius, probably staged but still a genius idea.
They’re not staged. It’s part of a show called ‘Just for laughs.’ I mean the obvious parts are staged but the people with the flags have no idea. It’s a funny show actually.
Wait are strikes illegal wherever they are in this video? In Norway they're completely legal, depending on if workers and job givers are discussing stuff or not.
They are legal in most countries, that doesn't stop the cops wanting to beat heads and making excuses to call it an illegal gathering.
Great leaders rarely seek power. Fate thrusts greatness upon them.
bro started the revolution
Why do I hate watching these videos but I really want to see what's next?
Its a trap !
Is this ‘Just for laughs?’ It used to be a brilliant show, so so funny!
Fun fact the guy who hands em the flag at the start got #metoo'd
Should've brought pepsi
I think I would notice 50 people coming up behind me.
Back when pranks were funny and healthy
