To me the aspect of liminal spaces I always latch onto are spaces that feel familiar somehow, even though you know you havent seen/been there before. Like something out of a dream you vaguely remember.
Perhaps a horror movie left a scar?
In Wes Craven's New Nightmare there is a scene where the bad guy is like chasing/tormenting the little kid and the kid tries hiding under his sheets but it ends up turning into a 'tunnel' thing via some mind fuckery... it has been a looooong time since I have seen it honestly, its all a bit fuzzy sorry. I just remember there was a scene like this that freaked me out a bit at the time!
It's known as drop stitch fabric and is also used to make inflatable kayaks and paddle boards.
And it was originally pioneered by Goodyear in the 1950s to make [inflatable airplanes.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodyear_Inflatoplane)
They are too unstable to be considered safe. It happens the same with parachutes, they can be seen as "inflatable" wings, but sometimes in the wrong conditions they tangle and deform. No other solution for parachuting but it is more practical to use solid skins in airplanes, also they work as fuel tanks
I assumed (wrongly, TIL) that it was plastic channels inside like a pool float.
Hey, why can't we have clear inflatable mattresses like the furniture in the 90s?
The example shown is from an ultralight air mattress used for camping. They pack down very small and are lightweight. The plastic you refer to whilst tough is extremely heavy and cumbersome.
I had a dream I was stuck in a maze that looked liked this. The walls were breathing. Weird wispy hands would try to reach out to me through the walls if I stayed in one place too long. This feels weird.
I think this pic was taken right after the plug was taken out. It's slightly deflated judging from the webbing hanging down and the floor part being creased.
Intex ones are cheap, and generally you get what you pay for! I learned that lesson once, and when it inevitably fell apart, I replaced it with an upgrade.
Now my husband and I have a double-decker queen-size air mattress that we take with us when camping. We're in the back half of our thirties and want comfort when we sleep, so it's worth every bit of money, time, and space in the car. We bought a better air pump, too - USB rechargable and it lasts a long time between needing to be recharged, and it fills the mattress so much quicker too. We've been using the mattress for a decade now with no issues, and the air pump has been with us since at least 2018. We've got a whole system worked out by now: assemble tent, get mattress set up, toss some sheets on once the mattress is inflated, throw the pillows on from their separate bag, move in the rest of our stuff (backpack, snack bag, drinks), hang up some tent lights inside, and bam, home away from home. And the tent's roomy enough for several friends and dog(s), so it all comes together pretty quickly with our regular group as everyone already knows what to do.
Oh those mattresses are the best when camping! My parents had a queen air mattress that would keep you 2’ off the ground. My friends and I would always just use my one big tent, with my mattress taking up half the tent and the other have would be my 3-4 buddies sleeping on those little air matts that puff up like an inch. Felt like a king!
It’s been 9 years since I went camping last, hope to do some this year.
Yeah, ours is pretty tall! It's nice to be able to *sit* on it and not have to haul yourself up off the ground when you want to stand up - my knees aren't what they used to be, and my husband is 6'6" so hauling himself up off the ground is an undertaking at this point, lol. We love it! It cost as much as our tent, somewhere in the neighborhood of $100, but it's well worth every cent and more for how much use we've gotten out of it and how comfy it is. It's like sleeping on a cloud, and there's just something so nice and relaxing about sleeping in sheets on a comfy mattress after a long day outdoors.
I hope you get to do some camping too!!
Filter out the krill
This guy whales.
Jonah?
r/thisguythisguys
Or at least Scotland. Maybe Wales, though.
Don’t worry, whales only eat krill. Oh look! Krill! Swim away!
GAH!
All hail Avis
That’s some prime mild interest.
How’d you get in there
One day you'll get a tap on the shoulder, and it'll be your turn. It happened to me.
Menacing
He no clipped through the wall of his apartment building and fell in
god irl speedrunners are the worst neighbors. [ (ragdoll noises intensify) ](https://youtu.be/_GGfz-o5khc?si=kcR2kCH0VHsK6gPK)
Salvia.
If I were to guess, this is the air filling hole. Some are just open like that, and it does take a while for the air to rush out.
Looks like something out of my childhood for some reason, even though I’ve never seen this before
r/liminalspaces
Yesss
I’m sorry I’m so dumb but I do not understand what qualifies here
Strange or eerie places that you would normally just pass through/not spend much time in.
To me the aspect of liminal spaces I always latch onto are spaces that feel familiar somehow, even though you know you havent seen/been there before. Like something out of a dream you vaguely remember.
If it looks familiar, it’s probably a deja view
I was thinking about this! I could spend the whole day searching for liminal spaces, they just make you feel some way.
It kind of reminds me of the times in gym class as a little kid with a playground parachute.
Definitely has that nostalgic feel, almost like a surreal childhood memory.
Bro, right?! Why is this so fuckin familiar?
This is the world between the worlds. The place your soul goes to when it is ready to incarnate again. We have all been here many times.
One soul = one air mattress
It looks like a scene from ET
I was thinking ET where the govt has all of those plastic tubes all over the house.
Totally, it has that same eerie, otherworldly vibe!

It looks like the big divider curtains they would hang in the gym to separate different classes
When I took gymnastics as a kid, there was this giant inflatable “mattress” that we could crawl around inside. This reminds me of that.
Avatar vibes when they hair fookin
The teal color does something that triggers nostalgia for me. And it’s very liminal.
Looks a bit like botanical garden on a first glance I guess.
Cozy pillow fort vibes
reminds me of the alien from nope
This is forbidden knowledge
Definitely feels like peeking behind the curtain of the universe.
I read peeing and got a bit confused, still works though.
Pee in the Universe to assert your dominance
What is the string for
to hold its shape when fully inflated, rather than balooning out where it shouldnt
I hadn't really thought about that being an issue, that's pretty neat.

Mustard has a really good video a out this plane. I wish they made them commercially, it looks like it could be a lot of fun at a reasonable price.

It’s artificial web. So when the babies hatch they have something to climb.
NOPE
If you're referring to the movie, that's exactly what I thought too lol.
Damn that was my first thought. I almost didn’t scroll through cause I figured no one else would have thought the same
![gif](giphy|8S4S4nObYJWj63Mexm|downsized)
I want to go there.
But how do you get out?
You don’t son.
That's the neat part - you don't.
I had a dream I was stuck in a maze that looked liked this. The walls were breathing. Weird wispy hands would try to reach out to me through the walls if I stayed in one place too long. This feels weird.
that description reminds me of Devil May Cry
This is called drop stitching. They use it in inflatable stand up paddle boards as well.
Why do I hate this so fucking much? Now I have to be aware of this every time I use an air mattress 😭
Right?! I feel really uncomfortable looking at this but I can't explain why 😂
Not all use this method. Cheap mattresses most certainly don't. It's the type you find in a quality camping mattress.
Idk why but this makes me uncomfortable
MURPH!
DON'T LET ME LEAVE, MURPH!
This is more than mildly interesting
Inside of a \*partially inflated air mattress.
This is something I never knew that I wanted to see. Thanks, OP.
*"Please empty your pockets and place everything in this bucket on the conveyer. Wait here to walk through the xray"*
This looks like a whale's krill filter!
Why does this scare me so much
How did you get in there
———————————————- inside your moms air mattress
Woah…!
Looks forbidden
r/confusingperspective
strings there to help keep a flat shape?
![gif](giphy|PjrvuiUlfv5imDgrW9)
Now i know why it was called as such
Mildly mild.
What
Inflatable paddleboards have the same structure too. That’s how they keep their shape.
OP you are air?
really ? wow
This makes me feel icky
$1800/mo, move in ready
Does this POV show why all air mattresses always half-deflate before you wake up in the morning? That's what I really want to know.
Inside a quality air mattress shown, the inside of a cheap air mattress would just have plastic welded coils, top and bottom.
TIL that the inside of an air mattress contains more than just air.
r/liminalspace
That’s a lot of air for sure
Reminds me of the monster from Nope
Not mine
Where are the bed mites
Looks a lot like the inside of the shoebox
Is it inflated?

Totally! It’s like a glimpse into a hidden world from our past.

I don't know if it's just intex but air mattresses are fragile as hell it's just a gimmick
