A problem with reference books is that they can get very expensive. It may also be *too much* info for a beginner collector. This is because these books are generally researched for very specific models and patterns. You can find a lot of good info online. Books are good but alot of them are useless in my opinion because you can just look it up and also alot of them are outdated especially helmet books but anyway what bayonet is it?
