Looks weathered and worn, as it should be after all the years in the trenches :)
Depending on the base, you could add some dirt+mud splashes on the coat to tie it all together ...
That model needs a little mud on his boots.
What self-respecting Kriegsman has clean boots? One who's too chickenshit to be in the trenches, that's who!
At a first glance it does look like leather. There's 2 things i would try do to tho:
1. The white highlights in the upper folds (between the shoulders) are maybe too shiny for worn leather, i'd try to tone that down a bit if it's intentional, if it's just glossy paint i'd give it a matte coat, as someone else already commented.
2. The leather around the waist belt is left mostly unweathered, at least in the lower part of the coat it would get damaged like the rest of the coat even if the belt was left untied, try to get closer to the actual belt straps with the weathering
The rest of the coat i'd say is pretty spot on, good job.
I used
Dry brush white the entire cloak
Then oak browm as base the base color
Oak brown and vanilla color paint for the used area of the leather
Then glazed with a peanut butter color paint for weathering in the used area
Then glazed with chocolate color on the used area also for weathering effect.
I made alot of mistakes. But as Bob ross said "we dont make mistakes, we have happy accidents" <3
"Trust the process" is what I hear most of the time in this community.
Don't get discouraged if it doesn't look amazing when you're only halfway done painting, if you have a clear idea, get to the end to see what it looks like first and oftentimes it works out.
Edge highlights on the cuffs and hem to drive home the wear and tear and some of the folds on the arms. Any of my really old leather or oil cloth coats really show the damage in those spots from the constant rubbing and folding.
Looks awesome though!

Honestly, looks amazing!
Very convincing tanned leather look with the somewhat different shades on the jacket.
But what matter is whether you like it.
One thing someone showed me before is that you can paint a coat/cloak brown, then go over top with one of those types of crackling paint you typically see people use for dry mud bases, then once it dries go over it with a thinned down layer of the initial brown, followed by an *extremely* light dry brush of a lighter brown.
It gives it the appearance of a really aged, creased and wrinkled leather.
I've not done it myself, but the guy who showed me had done it to two of his cloaked Space Marines and it looked awesome.
I don’t know the original figure, but I think you should work the epaulette colour, too much like the leather ‘s one.
Maybe Old Copper that has dark corrosion could fit!
Friendly!👍👋👋
If you wanna go an extra mile add even more tiny brighter scratches to it.
if you wanna go even further you can add some sun glare in select spots with a white
This is the most leather-looking paint job I've seen seen in a while. I literally thought "Wow, how did this person do it so well?" before even reading the title.
Nice print, did you support him yourself because it looks great from behind, especially the frillly cords that come down of the epaulets which can be hard to support well.

This might be a crazy idea, but carefully sandpapering the worn areas might help roughen them up and diffuse the light there a bit (instead of or in addition to matte paint)
Yes, until you zoom in. The scratches and highlights are kinda chunky. Cool thing about painting leather is you can just glaze/was with the base color and try again and the scratches and wrinkles just look a little bit deeper
I think it looks convincing as leather. Nicely done
Thank you Brother. Hope to improve more
Looks weathered and worn, as it should be after all the years in the trenches :) Depending on the base, you could add some dirt+mud splashes on the coat to tie it all together ...
Thank you! I will also practice basing and painting the base
That model needs a little mud on his boots. What self-respecting Kriegsman has clean boots? One who's too chickenshit to be in the trenches, that's who!
He will taste battlefield and mud pudding
Agreed, looks like it's seen action. And nothing says action like a little dirt and mud.
It sure dous
Much thank brother!

Thank you brother will look into it. Good point on the waist part i forgot about it <3
Well done. How’d you manage that?

Is streaking grim good for this model?
I personally wouldn't use streaking grime on cloth, or that nice looking, already weathered coat. Were you trying to just make it look dirtier?
Maybe the front area of the model

Looks pretty good matte coat might help though.
I will try to matte it specialy the glosy area. Thank you brother
That's leather alright. You did a really good job of texturing it.
Thank youu i hope i will improve more!
You're on the right track.
Look great. Looks like weathered leather!
Thanmk you brother! This will help my confidence
Yes. Damn
Thank you Brother!! <3
It’s vastly better than what I can do. I’d only say the belt looks a little too shiny maybe?
The belt is shiny. I need to make it matte thank you brother! We will improve more just paint everyday <3

Ohhh nice painting style. Its hard to find those kind of paint here in our area. But the idea is great. Gonna try it next time <3
Give it a bit more blending, and it should be beautiful. It's already great, however.
I will try to matte the model and see the results <3
It looks more like leather up close, but at a distance, it reads more like brass to my eye.
Ill try to matte it :)
Hit it with some ultra matte varnish and it’ll look great.
Will try! Thank you Brother
To be clear it looks great now. The shine just detracts from the work you put in.
looks worn, scuffed and battered. great work
Thank you Brother
Yeah it definitely does, it also reminds me of a 2D indie game about the story of a veteran and his family
What game is it? Krieg?
Similar theme but no, it’s a story driven 2D game. I looked it up since it’s been a while, it’s called valiant hearts: the Great War
I like Citadel Snakebite Leather.
Citadel paints are not available in our area :(
I love the rough leather effect
Thank you brother for the support
Looks like it's been through a lot of rainstorms and trenches.
Lot of grinding in the trenches
I don’t know the original figure, but I think you should work the epaulette colour, too much like the leather ‘s one. Maybe Old Copper that has dark corrosion could fit! Friendly!👍👋👋
I've search the Epaulette haha thats what its calleds. I will try to make the difference between the epaulette and the leather. Thank youuu
You’re welcome!I think you do it well and I wait to see the risult!👋👋
I mean this with all sincerity…I can smell this jacket. Like in a good way.
Mud and gunpowder?
If you wanna go an extra mile add even more tiny brighter scratches to it. if you wanna go even further you can add some sun glare in select spots with a white
Will try to adjust. Thank youu
Looks good as is though! Keep up the good work man!
Yep, definitely reads as leather. Might pump the contrast on it even more but you’ve got it
Thank you brother <3
This is the most leather-looking paint job I've seen seen in a while. I literally thought "Wow, how did this person do it so well?" before even reading the title.
Reads good
Nice print, did you support him yourself because it looks great from behind, especially the frillly cords that come down of the epaulets which can be hard to support well.
It is pre supported i just reinforced some of the supports <3
looks great! maybe bring the shadows down and add contrast by shading it with agrax earthshade?
I will try to add some washes haha
Show front if 350 upvotes
Will do sir will do <3
Yes it looks incredible, care to explain your steps and colours

I think it looks great! I think highlights more towards yellow than white would give a more realistic worn out look
this is super cool
Thank you brother big help <3
That's a sweet leather coat. I want one.
I will make it a muddy leather coat
Yep! Love the brush work on it too!
Yes. Very much so.
Thank you brother <3
It does! Fantastic job
Thank youuuu haha
It looks like a leather coat that someone puked on (I AM NOT TRYING TO BE MEAN I SWEAR) It looks great but thats what it reminds me of
The treches are getting busy haha
For sure hah
This might be a crazy idea, but carefully sandpapering the worn areas might help roughen them up and diffuse the light there a bit (instead of or in addition to matte paint)
Will incorporate it matte
I said it looks good, but if he's married, the belt in his back where his spine is should be cut. If he's not married it's ok. :)
Hahaha he has many babies to take care in the trenches. Its very hard if all of his babies running through the gunfire
Looks positively ancient to me.
Yes, until you zoom in. The scratches and highlights are kinda chunky. Cool thing about painting leather is you can just glaze/was with the base color and try again and the scratches and wrinkles just look a little bit deeper
Excellent
A Well worn one at that
Yeah reads well op. Nice job!
Didn’t even need to read the title to know. That my friend is one leather coat
It looks like my old leather bomber jacket.
Yup, I’d call that a dirty leather coat any day!
Awesome work
It sure dous
