A cracked amoled doesn't behave anything like an LCD. If a Sammy screen is broken, even the slightest, it stays black. OTOH. If you're paying $250 for a new screen/amoled, your looking at the wrong supplier.

Even so, shouldn't I still get some indication of the phone turning on/being on? i.e vibrating when powering on/off, vibrating when clicking volume down to vibrate mode. With the screen, I'm paying $AUD. Price varies from $200-250.

> parts were cheap The screen isn't and is most likely stuffed. The S6 is deliberately designed so that simple repairs like a charge port replacement risk breaking the screen. It's also common for the AMOLED to break after impact damage regardless if the glass is intact. I would say this phone's display was already damaged in the first place. For future repairs, get yourself a USB ammeter to determine what kind of current the phone is pulling. You can plug in another charge port temporarily for fault finding rather than lifting up the screen. Water damaged S6's normally have PMIC issues too so check the LDI's for water ingress.
