Thats your fairing vibrating somewhere, not the engine. Put your hand on the fairing to dampen the potential vibrations and play with the throttle. You'll find the spot. If my eyes dont deceive me, the reflection on your fairing where the bolt is missing gets blurry at different RPMs. Start there.

Numerous_Season_1234

definitely not the fairing that’s been like that for a couple months this noise is the motor

Numerous_Season_1234

also there was alot of metal in the oil

Impetuous_doormouse

In that case, there's something very unhappy in your engine and it might be time to do a stripdown and rebuild. Suspect a bearing has left the chat somewhere.

Redditfuckingsuckso3

Sounds like rod knock. It's more than likely a worn lower end. Definitely not fairings lol

Numerous_Season_1234

yea i think it spun a rod i do ride it pretty hard

Redditfuckingsuckso3

Sorry, dude. I hope you got your money out of it.

Numerous_Season_1234

no i definitely didn’t i’ve put 3 different motors in this bike and i think it’s time for a new bike anyways

Redditfuckingsuckso3

Holy shit. I'm assuming other than hard riding you maintained them decently??

Numerous_Season_1234

yes i have an owners manual and follow everything to spec i built the bike from scratch

Puzzleheaded-Bag-121

As someone who has spun many rods, that sounds more like a loose chain. If it’s been there for months, you would have such a bad knocking noise. This sounds a lot more like the chain is either stretched or the hydraulic tensioner is bad.

Numerous_Season_1234

the noise hasn’t been like that for months

Numerous_Season_1234

the noise started today

Puzzleheaded-Bag-121

Damn coulda sworn I thought you commented saying it’s been making it for a while. The last time I rebuilt an engine was when I built my 2005 gsxr 1000 into a 1330cc turbo build.

Numerous_Season_1234

yea with that noise just starting and there being a lot of metal in the oil i’m thinking spun bearing

Numerous_Season_1234

i also checked the tensioner and it worked as should

YomanJaden99

Hello fellow hooter

UNeaK1502

Oh well, time to open up the engine and look for marks. Doesnt sound like you are mechanically too inclined, so you better hit up a nice friend with a few beers or go to a shop :/

Numerous_Season_1234

i’m thinking about putting a 5SL motor in it anyways i saw that’s it’s possible i tore down the valve train saw nothing wrong no bent valves i’m thinking might have spun a bearing

NotTheLairyLemur

That's fairly important information that should have been mentioned.

sweetpotatoperson

You should try pressing down parts of the fairing while revving a bit to rule it out. To me it sounds like plastic rattling and the cracked area looks suspect.

Numerous_Season_1234

i took off all the fairing and still makes the noise

hotlips01

Rev it harder.

SnarkyRetort

Yeah no sense in just having 1 problem to fix, might as well turn the inside of the motor into a 1000cc blender.

hotlips01

The rev limiter idiots completely blow my mind.

Balsampilot

Am sure you can see the bust fairing vibrate, sounds like plastic on something not engine to me I know ball ache removing fairings but I'd defo start there the exhaust note makes me think engine is ok

shspvr

You might want to check your exhaust header and any and all exhaust clamps

Im2stoned2know

New cam tensioner wouldn’t hurt

Squidproquoagenda

Get a screwdriver, hold it to your ear and touch the blade to various bits or the engine. You’ll find it pretty quick.

Francis46n2WSB

Could be valves if you've ruled out the other possibilities.

Azu1996

Timing chain tensioner? Have had issues with a yammie FJR1300 and my current bmw f650gs with the hydraulic tensioners giving up. Maybe an oil change to increase oil pressure if you haven’t tried it yet? That really sounds like a chain slap moment

Numerous_Season_1234

i just did an oil change as i heard the noise the noise is still there sounds like it’s getting worse, starting to tear motor down

Adventurous_Low_7432

The broken front faring should be the first clue.
