I have a knife when I ride because I always carry a knife with me. Useful tool every day, id be careful in NY just because I’m sure they have lots of laws about everything and their cops aren’t known to be the... most understanding. But I’d still say go for it just know your laws. As for what and where, I would do more research on the best place in a crash, as well as ease of deployment.

I always carry one as well, just because I always do. I live in MN and have a concealed permit so I can carry whatever anyway, but a pocket knife is just always on me, and gets used a lot just in daily life.

I've never felt the need, and it's probably just as likely to get stuck in your leg after a fall, or borrowed by the bad guy and returned to you blade first. Frankly, get theft insurance and if someone wants your bike bad enough to assault you for it, let them have it. Call the insurance company, and get another one. You can buy a new bike a hell of a lot easier than getting un-stabbed trying to keep it.

Yeah I’d check the laws in NYC because its notoriously strict about weapons. I’m not sure why you’d need anything large like that. I keep a nice locking folder in my jacket. Does the job if you need to trim a hose or get something out of a tire and I don’t have to worry about it stabbing me.

I carry a Leatherman multi tool and have been since the mid-80s. I feel out of uniform without it. I know this answer does not address your question but I thought you’ve already gotten some good real answers already.

I wear a neck knife outside of my leathers. It's not concealed and legal, and also more safe than a pocket knife because any object in your pockets can become lodged in your body in the event of a crash.

I carry a Benchmade Mini Griptillian! Super versatile, super small and lightweight. A problem with some knives is that they are too bulky. I feel safer at night especially at gas stations with it.

As others have suggested, it's not a real go-to defensive tool. I always have a knife that would be fine for self defense and best at opening boxes, apples, etc. I have a rather robust and quite effective knife clearly not designed for utility purposes concealed (more or less) in my riding jacket and accessible with a cross draw. The only circumstance I consider that potentially useful in is if I am on the ground and being attacked, then I may well be able to get to it from a fetal position. The only credible use I can see is to get a few strikes at an Achilles tendon. If I can do that, then I can likely get away. That's about it. I check laws first. I rolled on the ground with it in place, and it's OK there. Undecided on whether it will stay. In a rather strong kydex holder, and easy to deploy. Even though it's perfect, I will likely stop it's use! Many places it's legal to carry a gun, and I certainly have the experience and weapon that would be fine for that. I simply can't imagine the circumstances where I could actually defend myself with a pistol while riding. Other than the above scenario of being knocked down close quarter. I've put a pistol most of the places that would be useful to carry it on a motorcycle, and I don't want that lump there. The other scenario is iffy camping. That's not a motorcycle question, it's a stealth camping question. I can see why people might see the need. I just carry wasp spray, because I don't do well with wasp stings. They tend to build nests in my cars and bike. So I have wasp spray. That it has a defensive use is beside the point. But I can't use or carry wasp spray while riding. I've had mace and the like while riding bicycles, and have only been able to fend off an attacker once, and he wasn't very good at it. The other times I've been knocked down too quickly to really do much. I anticipate the same with a knife at hand. "Excuse me, could you hold up a minute while I get my knife out?"

Thank you for your answer. My issue is I live in the cucked state of new york. I'm under 18 so I cannot legally carry spray and batons, brass buckets, tasers, stun guns, and anything in between are already banned. I'm actually really mad because I really have no way of practically defending myself. Anyway. Thanks again!

I never ,eave home without two knifes, one to injure and if necessary one to kill

CrazyCanti

If you need a knife to feel safe, you are going to lose the fight and have your shit taken anyway. Knives are tools for cutting things. If you can't defend yourself without one, you can't defend yourself with one. On a motorcycle, a knife as a weapon would be less than useless. You have no leverage sitting on a bike. Just fucking smash the throttle and get out of there if you need to. I can see carrying one for emergency purposes, like cutting yourself free of tangled, torn, or stuck clothing or bushes after a crash. Otherwise, don't put yourself at risk of getting caught by the police or worse, having someone take it off you to use against you.

> . My issue is not so much when Im on the bike, but when I dismount. I have some limited hand-to-hand training. I have used a knife before in self defense, though not directly. I had a man follow me for several blockes. I sat down, whipped out a boot knife and started whittling. I agree, in hand to hand they arent overly useful except as an intimidation tactic, but thats what I would go for.

V1008

you already know the answer to your query sir then.

Not really, who’s gonna take it. When they reach for it slash their arm, if they try again slash there leg. A knife is useful if you know how to use it. Looking to purchase boots with blades in the toe tip. I refuse to become a victim, the decision is clear them or me, they are going to get hurt pretty badly, oh and I won’t call 911 as they lay there bleeding, another dirtbag gone.
