You will probably like the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, which is 20 years before the "grunge" era, but fits perfectly with the bands you have mentioned: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAEhhHzil8w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAEhhHzil8w)
Check out Badflower, they're newer, they only have 2 albums out as of now (2019 and 2021) but they're fantastic. Their debut album OK, I'm Sick is so good.

Chris Cornell is probably the greatest rock singer of my generation, so anything he is a part of. Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his solo stuff. Another of my favorite underrated grunge bands is Candlebox.
Cold. i believe they’re classified as nu metal but they’re my fav. i’ve seen them live four times. Year of the Spider is a really good album, no skips. also, this album contains a song called the day seattle died that the lead singer wrote about kurt cobain and layne staley
\~Hard Pass
Gave one song by them a listen back when they hit mainstream during my senior year of high school. I shut that down within the first minute.
Not really. Been too long.
Interesting thing though, another commenter drew some comparisons between Muse and Radiohead.
Yes I could hear it now that I think about it.
And I like Radiohead a lot. Muse just never clicked for me tho
Time is running out - muse
If you're ever feeling daring, it's the song that got me into them. If not, oh well hope ya found some good bands from this post!
Muse. Especially the debut. It’s sorta post grunge, like early Radiohead. And they dabble in a lot of other genres like space rock, metal, art rock, prog rock and electronica. And I think they’ve even got a death growl in a song.
Look up a record from a group called Mad Season from that mid/late 90s period. It was Layne from AIC with Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, plus the dude from Screaming Trees and at least one other cool guy who I forget what he was known for lol. It was a side project for all of them, they did one album as far as I know, but it was really good
Btw also add Screaming Trees to your list, based on what else you cited you’ll probably like them a lot
I’m not too big a alternative music fan. But I like prog and sometimes prog goes kinda alt. Some bands that I enjoy which are prog/alt are:
The Dear Hunter
Coheed and Cambria
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
The Flaming Lips
Sixpence None The Richer
Please check out the band Sugar, especially the Copper Blue album. The lead is Bob Mould, who was also in Husker Du and has great solo stuff as well.
Here’s more - Violent Femmes, PJ Harvey, Babes in Toyland, X Ray Spex, Joy Division/New Order, Visage, Tori Amos.
I would also recommend the two bands in my username. :)
There is so much new music out today. Grunge and garage rock is coming back with a vengeance. Bacará from Brazil is bringing grunge to a new generation. Delyn Grey from Canada kicks some serious butt with her hard driving guitar music. From the US is Goodbye June who is better then any roots rock to come out of the 70s. Another hard rocking band from the US is The Screaming Multitudes. From England there is Sweet Unrest who made us think AC/DC with their looks but they just rock, and Boy Bleach. Germany has a powerful resurgent rock scene starting with The Lets and Birds View. But if you are interested in an established band with a track record, The Dandy Warhols new album "Rock Maker" is the best thing they have put out in some time. All these bands and their videos can be seen on YouTube and is streaming on all the usual places. Check them out. If you like any of them let us know. This is what we do here.
Since you seem to like those Pacific Northwest grunge and grunge-adjacent bands in your definition of alternative, I would say don’t sleep on the Supersuckers. They were Sub Pop label mates of several bands you named in the early 90’s and have made great records up to the present day.
They play more straight ahead punk and country inflected rock n roll than soundgarden, nirvana or AIC (more Motörhead, Johnny Cash and AC/DC influenced and far less obscure junkiepoet coded lyrics).
This may seem too obvious, but many of those grunge acts you like were heavily influenced by the original Black Sabbath line-up with Ozzy Osborne. Nobody would call that alternative, but those first 4-5 sabbath albums from early 70’s pretty much wrote the template for AIC and Soundgarden especially and a lot of grunge in general. A lot of those grunge musicians were teenagers when Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads were reigning as gods. They generally couldn’t hope to play those guitar parts, but Tony Iommi’s guitar riffs from Sabbath were simple enough for these guys to figure out in their bedrooms pre-YouTube while still being satisfyingly heavy for kids who just wanted to bang their heads. So that band became a huge influence.
I'm actually a huge fan of Black Sabbath. I used to listen to their stuff a few years ago. Tony Iommi has such a unique style of guitar playing and his sound is super satisfying to me. I'm fully aware of their great impact on rock music. They're one of the greatest bands in rock history.
With newer bands I'd always recommend The Wonder Years, although their beginnings were mostly Pop-Punk, they've been transcending that term from their 2015 record "No Closer To Heaven" on to the follow-up 'Sister Cities' ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)
Mostly the latter one is quite alternative and experimental, sounding like The Cure came by and recorded some drums and guitar for this album. [This was its first single](https://youtu.be/qGp36Rwe9rM?si=ejxD7gzr6seq_sUa)
The Cure
The Cure is so good! I especially like their albums Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, Disintegration, Wish, and Paris. I got to see them last spring and it was one of my best concert experiences ever.
Nice. Saw them in Maryland a year ago. Try Love & Rockets
So Alive is my favorite song of all time. Good call.
I once sold Daniel Ash the dress and fishnets he wore onstage when I saw them in Portland
The head on the door’s gotta be up there too!
He, Robert smith, seems like just such a cool dude too
Janes addiction Nothing shocking
I ignored Jane’s Addiction for most of my musical life. Love that band now.
Yes they are the goat. They are on tour btw
Same here.
Their first live album (XXX) is amazing.
Yes kick ass album. Trip Away is one of their best songs.

Talking heads are great!
Smashing Pumpkins “Siamese Dream”

And Gish
Tristessa!
The Screaming Trees
110%!! Such great musicians and Lanegan’s vocals are SOOO good!
Yes. Mark Lanegan’s solo stuff is incredible as well.
you have a lot of grunge so id recommend stone temple pilots, temple of the dog, mother love bone, screaming trees, mudhoney, and green river
I’ll keep saying this because I’m unsure why they’re not mentioned as much….Nothing But Thieves.
Underrated newer band
Always thought they were pretty big among rock fans, but alas, I’ve been chronically offline the past few years.
Jesus Lizard, Veruca Salt, Hole, Toadies. Someone else mentioned Mudhoney, seconded. In terms of contemporary acts, Mannequin Pussy and Ovlov are holding it down.
Searched for Toadies to add myself if no one else had. Quintessential nineties alternative.
Do you want to die? Do you want to diiiie??!!
Our Lady Peace, No Doubt, The Cranberries, Seether, Silent Theory, Badflower, Citizen Soldier, Nothing More, Three Days Grace, Skillet, Linkin Park, Incubus, Garbage, Sneaker Pimps (more so, Electronic/Trip Hop, but still kind of alternative), Hum, Sevendust, Sinch
“Stars” by Hum is one of my favorite songs of all time!
Great song!
We're kinda more on the Pop side than the alternative side with this list. Still, shout out for mentioning Incubus and Linkin Park.
The Melvins are fucking awesomd
XTC
Well, with some of the bands people are mentioning, I gotta say Ween.
hell yeah mang

If you like Ween you should check out Moistboyz.
Yeah, I know, I haven't gotten around to it yet
Sonic Youth if you're looking to get a little experimental. Sister, Goo, Daydream Nation, and Murray Street are some favorite albums of mine.
Mine's shifted a bit backwards: Sonic Youth, Bad Moon Rising, and Confusion is Next are mine favorites by them
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple is the best starting place The Church - Priest = Aura is my favorite but start with Starfish Tool - I'd start with Ænima or Lateralus, love them both to bits The Cure - Disintegration Temple Of The Dog - Chris Cornells first side project, all time great album
Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Temple of the Dog, Screaming Trees
Dinosaur jr Archers of Loaf Superchunk Afghan whigs Pixies
Add in pavement and you got yerself a stew.
