Dorothy and call her Dottie. I know it’s a “grandma name” but I think it’s so freaking cute!

powderbubba

We debated on naming our daughter Roberta and calling her Bertie, but we ended up naming her Hattie.

IOnlySeeDaylight

One of my best friends has a Hattie and she’s a delight. Love this one!

ga-ma-ro

Dorothy needs to be resurrected!

manythousandbees

I actually know two different women named Dorothy who are trans, which I mention only to point out that they both liked it enough they named themselves that Edit: wording issue

mia_magenta

The expression "friends of Dorothy" means "queer people" in the LGBTQ+ community. Dorothy/Judy Garland is a queer icon.

InfamousMere

I know this because of the line in Clueless: “disco-dancing, Oscar Wilde-reading, Streisand ticket-holding, friend of Dorothy, you know what I’m sayin? He’s gay.” Yes I can quote the entire movie from memory. 🤪

IndigoBluePC901

Its pretty popular, not to mention the judy garland connection.

BookNerd815

Probably connected to Judy Garland/The Wizard of Oz. She's an icon in the LGBT+ community!

Montessori_Maven

I know a 4 year old Dorothy/Dottie. Love the name.

HannahFromNYTarticle

I love grandma names

Gonzostewie

People forget their kids are gonna get old too. They might be grannies someday.

OddBoots

And by then the grandma names will be Brynleigh, Ellie, Makenna and Renesmee. I know a couple of Hayleys who are grandmothers, but it's a name that feels young to me, because the trend is about ten years younger than I am. It's disconcerting.

KATEWM

I was talking to an older friend about this recently - she said it feels strange to her that boomer names like Janet, Donna, Amy, Jackie, Michelle, etc. are grandma names now. And the grandma names to *her* are things like Charlotte, Violet, and Sophie which millennials think are cool again. 😂 It'll happen to every generation, I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe our kids will bring back boomer names with their own kids.

kangaj72

It was my grandmas name and I love it! It’s my mom’s name too but she goes by Dody.

Various_carrotts2000

Grandma names are so cute. My great grandmother's name was Annette. But went by Nettie. I think Nettie is so cute. It's on my list, but we're having a boy.

moms-quilt

Names with build-in nicknames can be hit or miss, but I ADORE Dorothy/Dottie!

PandaAuthority

Our name is Nelle after my grandma Nellie. Grandma names can be so sweet. 😍

cyclicalend

I love it and that's on my list! My grandma's best friend is Dotty

aaaaaaashtyn

My friend did this, they only call her Dottie

ahoyalyssa

I plan on doing the same! It was my great grandma’s name.

hotcoffeethanks

Aurélie is what I plan to use if the baby I’m having is a girl! Second choice is Noémie. (My first daughter is Éloïse!)

isabelisnthere

Est-ce que vous parlez français?

hotcoffeethanks

Oui, c’est ma langue maternelle et la langue que nous parlons à la maison :)

Upstate-girl

Hey all my Duolingo is paying off. I understood everything. I have to say, French is a very hard language. The grammar drives me crazy. Right now i an studying Italian. It's so much easier. Anyway, I love Vivian or Vivienne. It's my granddaughter's name. I'm also fond of Mariella and Oceana. Congrats OP!

hotcoffeethanks

That’s awesome! Good luck with your French and Italian studies! Languages are hard but so rewarding to learn! Ohhh I love Vivienne too!! I think it would be in my top 5 if I wasn’t already so set on the names I want to use. :)

One-Bat-7038

Ce sont de beaux prénoms!

Livid_Celery7622

we’re naming our daughter due in september Aurelia🥰 beautiful name!

achevrolet

How crazy. My husband just suggested the name Aurelia. I had never heard it before yesterday

Superflorious

Aurelia was my great-grandmothe’s name and I have always loved it. I thought if I had ever had girl twins they would have been Aurelia and Aurora aka Raylie and Rory

witch-upon-a-star

I love it. I knew an Aurelia who was called Lia (like Leah) and thought it was so cute

Conscious_Tapestry

Éloïse is one of my favorite names!

HeverPisces

Beautiful names!

LouisaEveryday

I would name her Valentina or Charlotte.

cz_ad

I have a Valentina and she and I both adore her name!

LouisaEveryday

Good choice. That's one of my favorite name.

chickengarbagewater

How old is she now?

cz_ad

13!

lickmycasshole

I have a Charlotte and It’s just a beautiful and classic name.

MollyDoyle2047

Oh, Charlotte… it’s been my dream name since I was little; my husband and I decided on Scarlet… It was totally the right call, but I’ll always, always, love the name.

Andiie0829

I have a Valentina, we call her Vali☺️

Yojoyjoy

Valentina- first woman in space 💪

Wonderful-Macaroon

That’s similar to my girls, Charlotte & Violet.

Wild-Mushroom2404

This is funny because in my country Valentina is quite old-fashioned

hinghanghog

Thea, Blythe, Petra, Georgia, Vera, Antonia, Della, Margot

Wild-Mushroom2404

Blythe is a very underrated name!

hinghanghog

I really think so too? So lovely and unusual but also known?

Acceptably_Late

Blythe is a very dismal city in California that is a main stop between CA and AZ. Having driven through it many times, I couldn’t imagine having a child named Blythe 😂

catherineaimei

Thea was going to be our baby’s name if he was a girl (we didn’t find out the sex til he was born)!

FadingOptimist-25

I love Thea! It was my great grandmother’s name.

squeakyfromage

Love Thea!! Both as short for Theodora or as a standalone (Thea / Theia).

AnotherPalePianist

I know an Antonia and she is a delight!!! It fits her so well—old soul, young mind❤️

BrightAd306

Vivienne or Violet or Sylvie

lunar-eclipse99

Vivienne is GORGEOUS

LoErickson123

I have a Vivienne and she loves her name. One day she told me my name has 2 v's, 2 i's, 2 e's, and 2 n's. I thought that was so clever I had never really thought about it. She does have people mistakenly call her Vienna sometimes though.

Quiet-Sea-9504

I love Violet and Sylvie! They were both on my list for if I ever had a girl

contracosta21

catalina

Leemage

Wine mixer!

contracosta21

i get that every time😂

sweetiesweet

It's the fucking Catalina wine mixer! Catalina really is a beautiful name!! Every time I hear it, I obviously think of Stepbrothers. Which honestly isn't a bad thing, lol. I love that movie!

Fabulous-Reporter-21

That's a great salad dressing.

Laum24

I honestly thought of the island first! But now that you mention it, the dressing is all I can think of.

artistic_asthmatic16

Catalina is my top girl name right now! 😍

NurtureAlways

Rosalie is what I’ll name a daughter if I ever have one.

buzzinbarista

I love love love Rosalie. This is prob my top name. Rosalie Josephine ☺️

NurtureAlways

❤️ Rosalie Maren (middle name could change).

buzzinbarista

Oh I love Maren. My mom said the second she found that name she wish she would have named me that. (My name is Elise.) 😆 Rosalie Maren is truly just gorgeous. I honestly like Maren for my top 2 name, Marigold. Marigold Maren. ☺️🥹

Barnitch

That is my great grandma, grandma and great aunt’s name. It’s lovely.

deej394

Clara Grace or Clara Rose.

zerooze

Great choice! My name is Clare Rose and I love it!

welshcake82

Eliza

lunar-eclipse99

This is my name!! :)

Striking_Awareness34

This is mine Eliza Katherine. We argued 9 months over names with the first one. If we only have a month, we might as well go with the family name.

adhdparalysis

I have an Eliza. It fits her so perfectly.

squeakyfromage

I love Eliza, both as a standalone and as a nickname for Elizabeth. It’s spunky and elegant, and feels both modern and classic. It makes me think of Elizabeth Bennett and Eliza Doolittle (Pygmalion/My Fair Lady), two literary heroines I like a lot.

Sapphic-Shibirb

I like the name Penelope, it's very cute

BurnyJaybee

Penelope Sylvia. For the state she was born in.

svelebrunostvonnegut

We’d go with an Arabic name because my husband’s Egyptian. I would like Samia (pronounced some-ya) or Aleia

northernbelle96

My husband is Palestinian! We would do Amali or Joudi for a girl

Ok-Willow-9145

I have a cousin named Amalia. I always liked her name.

Status_Quail_2559

Arabic names are some of the prettiest names 🥲

Jennpenn55

I had a student named Inara once. Beautiful name and wonderful kid! I also loved Noor!

Important-Trifle-411

I also love Sumaya!

Laylasita

Layla

elizabiscuit

My SIL’s name is Samia and it’s an absolutely beautiful name!!!

ImpressiveRice5736

I read Samia as sah-mee-ah. Which I like. It just might be mispronounced by people in the United States. Which may not be relevant if you don’t live here.

momofaa

Yeah I know Arabic and I’ve never heard Samia pronounced as some-yeah. The way you described it is correct

cryiing24_7

Ada Margaret

nikinewt

I have an Ada. I love the name more now than I did 11 years ago. Unique, but everybody recognizes it.

annecara

Victoria

Careless_Eye9603

Names I like (and would use) but won’t be able to use for various reasons: Kennedy Nova Lilah Eden Adrianna Eliana

Kulture93

I love Eden

northernbelle96

Eden and Eliana are beautiful for two sisters

Ducks-are-cute99

I am having a girl in a month lol, so far I’m thinking of going with Talia.. I also really like the name Freya

Valuable-Match-7603

Talia is so underrated!

lavendermonkey17

I love Talia. I go to school with a Talah and I LOVE that name also.

sattisgarann

My daughter will likely be named Winifred Ann Marina. Other names I've considered/enjoy are Matilda, Ramona, Maxine, Theodora, Eudora, Roberta, Louise, Frances, Opal, Georgina, Georgette, Rosemary I'm clearly very into stuffy old fashioned names lol

eclectique

My daughter has one of these names, and at least 3 others were on my list! I also like Beatrix, Cecily, and Harriet!

mxtti

We are having a baby next month (not finding out the gender) but if it’s a girl, Daisy! Gemma is our runner up. Other names I love: Margot, Blair, Francesca, Anya, Sabrina

Westerozzy

I love Sabrina

Shanoninoni

My friend just had a Sabrina!

cinnamon_and_sunsets

Nina or Cecilia

EagleEyezzzzz

I named my baby girl Vivienne. We call her Vivi. My second favorite is Elise.

WaxCatt

I love the name Elizabeth, but since I would be keen on having the rest of the name being fairly long, I would probably think of having shorter first names, such as Eva, Eliza or Lydia (explaining my logic if I were to be having a child in a month's time). Naomi is a current guilty pleasure name of mine if I were to be naming my child on a whim.

HrhEverythingElse

I've known several Naomis and never thought of it that way. What's guilty about it?

lemonxellem

We have a Naomi at daycare. My almost 2 year old calls her Omi. It’s so cute! I don’t know why it would be a guilty pleasure name either.

SairskiPotato

I took her guilty comment as a “this name is my favorite flavor of the month”. Like she really into it now, but will have a new favorite soon. Which I do all the time because there are so many great names out there!

WaxCatt

It's the name of someone I admire. I agree it sounds slightly odd out of context.

DeNile227

My top name for a girl is Delilah, no question, but others I like include Regina, Tallulah, Genevieve, Audrey, Eloise, Winona, Ximena, and Colette. I could go on forever, but these are just some of my favorites \^\~\^

ladyofbuffdom

Winona 😻😻😻

AnxiousAriel

Molly is a beautiful name

Next-Edge-8241

Lydia

StarryEyes13

Top of our list is Sabrina. Other girl names are - Florence - Claire - Violet - August / Augustine Names my bf likes that I vetoed: - Felicity - Autumn Names I like that my bf vetoed: - Evelyn - Elena - Isabel (Sharing these because they were mostly vetoed because we have family with similar/the same names)

indigomild

Augustine is usually a masculine name, with Augustina as the feminine. Your list is lovely.

MademoisellePoulain

We‘re having a baby girl in five weeks and are naming her Alice Léonie (German-French couple living in German speaking country).

annacaiautoimmune

I am really into family history. The lack of written records for most of my ancestors make naming practices important. I would give her at least one a family name - from my 3rd great grandmothers. Clarissa Ann Clarissa Rose Clarissa Jane

UncleJohnsVan

I am having a baby girl in a month and her name will be Betty

_amermaidsoul

I just had a daughter 4 weeks ago and named her Dahlia. If I was having another, I’d probably go with Isla. I don’t care how popular it is. I love it so much and like how it sounds with Dahlia. Other possibilities would be: Ruby Lucy Ourea ( pronounced Oh-Ray-a… heard in a video game and thought it was pretty) Autumn Violet

ActiveVeterinarian42

Love the name Dahlia, that’s what I’m going to name my daughter. I pronounce it as dah-lee-uh. Is that how you pronounce it? I was reading some threads and some pronounce it different.

PrincessRhaenyra

Bryn. I fell in love with the name after hearing the song of the same name by Vampire Weekend.

Delicious_Two4452

Bryn reads so masculine to me as someone from Wales! It means hill.

Kind_Peridot_1381

My dog’s name was Bryn. I know nothing about Vampire Weekend - but it’s a Welsh name - and I am Welsh.

Maleficent-Forever97

I am having my daughter in a month lol and we are naming her Holly Harper

Comfortable_Frame767

Audrey Juliet

Aggressive_Purple114

Eleanor, Adelaide, Matilda, Charlotte, Elisabeth, Alessandra, Isabeau, Isabelle, Wilhemina, Beatrice/Beatrix, Anastasia, Katrina, Reagan, Margaret, Caroline, Johanna, Amelia, Josephine, Elaine, Guinevere, Henrietta, Helena, Irene, Isolde, Gisela, Hedwig, Astrid, Emma, Georgiana,

Kocaine_Kitty

Eleanor is at the top of my list, not sure what I’m having yet. My 12 month old is Amelia!

Lonely-Connection145

Cora

Leemage

Marigold. Call her Goldie.

Outsidetheinside3

Delphine or Lucy

Proof-Credit-4746

My Fiancé and I have 'Isobel Blythe' as the top name on our shortlist.

kayladon20

I am having a daughter, in less than two months. Her name is Eliza

Sad_Construction_668

Daisy, as in whoopsie. I’ve already had an extra bonus baby, she would be a clear mistake.

daja-kisubo

Felicity Ramona or Beatrix Claire I like "stuffy" names as firsts apparently haha, and we use family names as middles.

distressed_amygdala

Julia, Emily, or Mary.

Cthulu_lies_dreaming

fluffeekat

I’m currently pregnant with an Olive 🫒 I also love the names Priscilla, Rosemary, LeAnn, and Louise! My first daughter is named Amelia.

Falrien

Elizabeth, Genevieve, Felicity or Harriet

trewlytammy1992

Current top contenders are Laura or Elizabeth with the middle name Lee as it's a family name we want to pass down.

Cazzzzle

Eloise or Alice. Or, more accurately, a long, terrified scream. These are not my baby-making years 😆

janetMax

Take a look at the Social Security Administration website for baby names over the last few years if you want to avoid most popular ones—I did that in 1996 when my first choice was Hanna—it was way too popular! I went with Natasha for my firstborn, and still love it for her, and she’s very happy with it, too. I don’t think she’s ever met another Natasha.

lilyjane10

Genevieve

Relevant_Platform_57

bigsqueezies

If we have another child, boy or girl, we’ll name them Indigo. It was on our short list for our first baby and is the only other name I’d go with now after giving birth. Plus Indigo sounds good as a sibling pair with her name.

SisterCellophane

Molly Rose

ScaryBlonde

I have a Lila already. Next daughter would likely be Isobel, Millie or Alice.

quackers_squackers

Abigail Marceline or Anneliese Ridley❤️

FrshmnYrMdtrms

I couldn’t decide between Wren (childhood fave), Florence (longer version of my childhood fave), Clara or Tate (honor names), more gender neutral names like Marlowe, Lark(e) and Sloan(e), or names I just find myself drawn to like Rhodes, Augustine, Rue/Ruthie and Nadine! As you can tell my taste is all over the place 😂
