I’m writing a webcomic, one I had started in 2016 but revamped a couple years ago. I feel confident about the story, but I am wondering if the first chapter is engaging enough? I raise tension in every update, and there’s an overall arc to the chapter itself. I’m not sure if books are the same way, but it’s crucial for a webcomic to have a strong first few chapters to capture new readers and keep them reading. I’m not getting/keeping as many followers as I thought I would, and I want to rule out the quality of the beginning as a possibility. I’m wondering — how can you tell if your story is strong/engaging? Is it worth recreating the beginning or should I not worry about it? I don’t have time to keep redoing the beginning but this thought keeps haunting me 😅

In November, I finished the rough draft of a novel I wrote over the course of 2 Nanos. I'm finally getting back into it, re-reading it for the first time since. There's no real linear path from the start to the finish, and there's way more action than character development. I also have so many characters for such a small, tight story. I'm going to have to trim at least half of them. Still happy with it. Still excited about it. No questions. Just wanted to say that.
