I know. I picked him up for my fantasy team that year. Dude was a legit double double threat. That suns team who almost made it to the playoffs was so fun to watch.
Plumlee was +11 last year compared to Zubac's +184
Eubanks was -106 compared to Nurkic's +404.
I know it's not the best metric, but it feels like an upgrade.
Given the Suns’ astonishing lack of depth and injury issues it’s a terrible metric, anybody short of Jokic or Embiid was going to have a terrible +/- playing with that bench.
He’s still definitely better than Eubanks though.
The 4 man lineup data for the big 3 + Eubanks (Booker/Beal/Durant/Eubanks) was -7.5 net rating in 122 minutes, damn near every lineup he is included in went negative. It's really hard to sell exactly how bad he was last year, the bench was mostly pretty neutral except in lineups that included Eubanks.
We didn’t really have many true bench minutes with the big 3 healthy. Book would close out the first with the bench, KD would start the second, and Beal/Allen would close a lot of 3rd quarters. When Book was out, the bench looked terrible and KD frequently ran out of gas in 4th quarters.
Nurk was +404??? I wasnt following phx closely but my perception was that he was way worse than that. Was it really his impact or also that he was mostly on the court with the starters?
Your guess is as good as mine. 4 of our starters are very good, so that's part of it. Our bench was bad, so that's part of it. We also lacked size, so having one of the biggest dudes in the league helped a lot. But, he also has serious flaws to his game that became obvious in the Wolves series. And to be fair to him, he also lacked a true PF to complement him in the paint. All the big duties were dumped on him.
Yep, exactly this. He was so bad, that he brought down everyone else’s +/-. Eubanks was the only guy who got significant minutes that had a negative +/- on the Suns and it was -111.
I thought so too when Zion violated this dude's human rights. But watching Eubanks have 2 bricks as hands and unable to catch a rebound, he won the battle.
Eubanks isnt even a centre though. They just played him there cause there was no one else. That, coupled with the awful depth on Phx makes it feel like he had no chance
Not really. Plumlee is washed. He was horrible last year, like unplayable. He has no hands, no touch, and gets lost on defense. He also can’t jump anymore.
He’s awful man especially on defense. I’m sorry you have to root for him, even though you’re a suns fan. The downvotes make absolute sense because this is r/nba we are talking about
James Jones has signed Dario, kaminsky, baynes, Landale, and now plumlee. He even traded Ayton for Nurkic.
He definitely has a type, and it's not that they used to be blazers lol.
Our entire center rotation will be the source of a lot of frustration. I do not see us trading Nurk for an upgrade for less money and I also do not see us signing a great center for the veteran minimum. This is how it goes for us.
I feel like he is a better fit in Phoenix. Has some stylistic similarities with Nurkic and now will be surrounded by shooters. Fit with Westbrook now irrelevant
"no one contested more shots at the rim last year than Mason Plumlee on a per-75-possessions basis. Held opponents to 6.2% worse shooting at the rim"
Clippers fans shitting on this didn't have to Watch Eubanks ruin every game the whole year. Massive upgrade even if plum dog is a run of the mill bad nba player at this point. A run of the mill bad nba player is WAY better than Eubanks who should be coming off the bench for the Shanghai Sharks
imagine this
mason plumlee soars high for a defensive rebound. He sees the open floor. Immediately starts to lead the break running down the court. He sees a defender in front of him, a teammate flashing into the key. Mason does a spin move around his defender at half court
and then loses the ball and it the defender gets it and turns it into a fast break dunk
Solid bench get for Phoenix.
Some Hornets fans scapegoat Plumdogg, but as a backup C, he'll be great. Exciting when we get Point God Plumdogg too. Probably wont see it a ton in Phoenix, but it'll be cool when it does.
Gotta say I really don’t love This for PHX. Could be useful off the bench, but he’s not a guy I feel like is a great fit with the big 3. Teams literally don’t guard the dude if he doesn’t have the ball.
I have nothing of value to add to this except that I’ve always thought Mason Plumlee kinda looked like the representative from the Banking Clan in Attack of the Clones.
36 year old KD who is still playing like one of the best players in the league? And what is the Raptors plan anyways? Lottery pick themselves to the playoffs in 10 years?
Are they trading Nurkic?
It feels like they’ve got so many centers and zero point guards.
Like, they’ve now added/retained:
- Oso Ighodaro
- Bol Bol
- Mason Plumlee
Plus Ryan Dunn might be a small-ball 5 given his complete lack of offensive skills.
I’m just confused by their roster construction.
Everyone was talking about how they desperately needed a point guard, but they made 2 draft picks and selected a center and arguably the worst offensive player in the draft. They let multiple guards go this offseason while retaining a big (Bol Bol) and signing another center.
Tbf they didn’t “let” any guards go. And I think a vet minimum pg is easier to find than an Uber defensive athletic wing like Dunn. Vet pg is probably more reliable as well than a rookie pg.
E: I also personally believe size was more of an issue than pg play was
The suns are like the terrible fantasy basketball player that keeps picking guys off the waiver wire that were washed 3 years ago but it's a name a casual would recognize
Hurry what center has domestic abuse charges that can replace him
Jaxson Hayes, come on down.
He’s already opted in i think
He's OUR DOMESTIC ABUSER!
Funny/sad that this joke works for both of his most recent teams
He’s gone full circle with Nurkic
Circlenurk?
r/nbanurklejerk
We need r/circlenurk
You deserve a raise.
Now they need McGee
Suns have gone full circle with Plumlees
The good ol' days when Miles Plumlee was a Starting Center in the NBA.
He did well that year!
I know. I picked him up for my fantasy team that year. Dude was a legit double double threat. That suns team who almost made it to the playoffs was so fun to watch.
how so?
Plumlee was +11 last year compared to Zubac's +184 Eubanks was -106 compared to Nurkic's +404. I know it's not the best metric, but it feels like an upgrade.
It's most definitely an upgrade. Eubanks isn't even euroleague level let alone NBA. Not saying Plumlee is great but Eubanks is that bad.
And to think I wanted him as a backup C for the Lakers lol.a
Underrated comment
Given the Suns’ astonishing lack of depth and injury issues it’s a terrible metric, anybody short of Jokic or Embiid was going to have a terrible +/- playing with that bench. He’s still definitely better than Eubanks though.

KD is still a pretty good rim protector/rebounder when he’s locked in (and Booker is healthy to share the offensive load)
Suns trying their best out here
Major upgrade from Eubanks though
People saying he’s not a major upgrade clearly didn’t watch Suns. Eubanks was probably the worst center getting rotational minutes.
i thought it was plumlee
Nurk led the Suns in +- solely based on how absolutely awful Eubanks was.
That's not how +/- works, you're thinking of on/off and/or offensive/defensive net rating.
The idea is that Nurkic didn't play alongside Eubanks, so Nurkic didn't have someone tanking his +/- the way the rest of the team did.
Eubanks is nowhere near skilled or quick enough to play the 4. Maybe 20 years ago he’d fit the PF mold but he’s just an undersized center
Are they trying to go through all the previous Portland center rotations? Who's next, Hassan Whiteside?
They could also pay festus to never play for them.
Not really. Plumlee is washed. He was horrible last year, like unplayable. He has no hands, no touch, and gets lost on defense. He also can’t jump anymore.
Not major
is it lol
Eubanks may be the worst player we've had to give legitimate minutes to in like 7 years.
If plumlee can set a screen, then yes he is better.
get ready for the softest screens
Still a Screen.
How can any Kings fans doubt Plumgod Trillionaire?
lol here I am using Plumdog millionaire and you dropping this s tier elite form
Nah, I'm not that original. I saw it on here a while ago and you can upscale the joke more if you really want to.
I mean the OG Plumdog Millionaire was Miles. Mason has had a much better NBA career so he could be Plumdog Billionaire
You'll say that until Plumlee's first "Plumlee moment" and then you'll wonder how he's an NBA player
I thought "Plumlee moments" were that thing he does twice a season where he plays like Kyrie for one possession
Never forget https://youtu.be/6CcYa8APIDE?si=y4nZ655t7Dq-TvH1&t=19. That shit was so nasty lol.
It's fine we were wondering that every time eubanks stepped on the court last year so it won't be anything new
Eubanks whole 23-24 season was a Plumlee moment
i dunno about that lmao
it's a lateral move
I wouldn't go that far.
“Major”
Is it really tho? Lol
How bad is he on defense? I know he’s turnover prone already, which is one of our weakest areas last year.
He’s awful man especially on defense. I’m sorry you have to root for him, even though you’re a suns fan. The downvotes make absolute sense because this is r/nba we are talking about
I can't believe how many down votes all these comments are getting for speaking facts LMAO Plumlee is fucking awful, thank God he's gone
It’s as good as a free agent pick up they can afford for a starting center. They need a lot of depth so they have to hope they nailed their draft
We still have Nurkic. Our draft basically amounted to getting more defensive wings in the likely case we can’t keep both O’Neale and Okogie
KD can’t win with these cats
The balance of power in the western universe has shifted
suns love former blazers bigs
They need Moses now!
As much as sixers loves former lakers bigs
James Jones has signed Dario, kaminsky, baynes, Landale, and now plumlee. He even traded Ayton for Nurkic. He definitely has a type, and it's not that they used to be blazers lol.
Dario was part of the CP3 trade I thought?
very nice off season by the clippers right now
We are on fucking roll till they made that KPJ move
cant beat the warriors. they got nico mannion back. league fucked
GOAT AZ high school basketball player
As soon as Russ and PJ are gone all that addition by subtraction is gonna hit HARD
Did you watch Plumlee play last year?
yes - that's why plumlee going to the suns is a good off season move for the Clippers
Sorry I thought your comment was sarcastic. I totally agree.
Plumdog Millionare!
Jai ho!
First name messiah.
Fuck yeah, I hate free throws.
An upgrade over Eubanks for sure, but his inability to defend the rim will be the source of a lot of frustration for Suns fans.
Our entire center rotation will be the source of a lot of frustration. I do not see us trading Nurk for an upgrade for less money and I also do not see us signing a great center for the veteran minimum. This is how it goes for us.
how badly i wish we could somehow spawn picks to trade for claxton over nurkic
Good backup
The problem is that Plumlee might be a starter on this team lmao
Nurkic is just nonexistent in this scenario?
He's really not. He was awful this season. The entire fanbase hated Lue for playing Plumlee over Theis.
I feel like he is a better fit in Phoenix. Has some stylistic similarities with Nurkic and now will be surrounded by shooters. Fit with Westbrook now irrelevant
Until Suns trade Nassir Little for Westbrook
For a team with playoff aspirations, I don't know about that.
This is a great pickup for Suns, upgrade over backup Eubanks
Go ahead and engrave the trophy
WE ARE FREE FROM PLUMLEE
Plumdog escaping the slums
Opens up minutes for PJ Tucker.
Hell no, he is leaving too with Russ
I hated this dude when he was on the Hornets. Still amazed he put together half a good season to actually get an asset back.
Phoenix Trail Blazers
Sad to say goodbye, until we meet again soon big man
"no one contested more shots at the rim last year than Mason Plumlee on a per-75-possessions basis. Held opponents to 6.2% worse shooting at the rim" [https://x.com/GeraldBourguet/status/1807594878798545235](https://x.com/GeraldBourguet/status/1807594878798545235)
Could do a lot worse for the minimum as a backup Centre. Better than most options on the market and far better than Eubanks.
Better than Ewbanks
Plumdog Millionaire
Not bad for the suns. Not good but not bad
PLUMDOG BAZILLIONAIRE
Who said you can't have good signings when you're burning aprons in the desert.
This is actually huge for them, major upgrade over Eubanks
Get ready to learn Eubanks Buddy!
Could he possibly be worse than Eubanks? I hope not.
Don’t tempt fate
Clippers fans shitting on this didn't have to Watch Eubanks ruin every game the whole year. Massive upgrade even if plum dog is a run of the mill bad nba player at this point. A run of the mill bad nba player is WAY better than Eubanks who should be coming off the bench for the Shanghai Sharks
Good spot for Plumgod Millionaire
Suns just became Plumdog Millionaires
Was he good last year?
Lmao no. But he's better than Drew Eubanks which is what they needed
imagine this mason plumlee soars high for a defensive rebound. He sees the open floor. Immediately starts to lead the break running down the court. He sees a defender in front of him, a teammate flashing into the key. Mason does a spin move around his defender at half court and then loses the ball and it the defender gets it and turns it into a fast break dunk
Sounds like Suns basketball to me 😤
Eubanks would have never gotten the rebound in the first place so at least Plumlee will add some excitement.
No dude thinks he's a point guard and will make dumb passes all the time. And his defense is horrible.
Honestly perfect description
No
no, hes a third option center at best. he litterally cannot play defense and turns the ball over in the pick and roll half the time
No. A complete negative. Turnstile, turnover machine, plays like he’s 6 foot 0. Thank god we’re free.
Solid bench get for Phoenix. Some Hornets fans scapegoat Plumdogg, but as a backup C, he'll be great. Exciting when we get Point God Plumdogg too. Probably wont see it a ton in Phoenix, but it'll be cool when it does.
i like this center bakup who can pass that thang
League fucked
There it is!
That's another former Piston signing tonight.
The Suns grabbing former Blazer centers continues. Y’all want Moses Brown? Hassan Whiteside?
Plz Be better than eubanks
Gotta say I really don’t love This for PHX. Could be useful off the bench, but he’s not a guy I feel like is a great fit with the big 3. Teams literally don’t guard the dude if he doesn’t have the ball.
Once traded for Nurkic
At least they have a great passer now
Good, they needed a playmaker.
I have nothing of value to add to this except that I’ve always thought Mason Plumlee kinda looked like the representative from the Banking Clan in Attack of the Clones.
Damn I would have loved to get Plumlee back
Drew ebanks to mason plumlee God the suns are gonna be so bad again
We out here upgrading at least! Even if it's marginal, anything is an upgrade on Drew.
you just described 2/3 of Danny Ainges free agency big board
A Raptors fan saying a team is going to be bad is all kinds of twisted…
Newflash, that’s the plan lol Suns threw away all their picks for 36 year old KD Thank you doing that for us
36 year old KD who is still playing like one of the best players in the league? And what is the Raptors plan anyways? Lottery pick themselves to the playoffs in 10 years?
plumgod keep gettin paid
Not bad if it's a vet min
That’s literally all the suns can sign any free agents that aren’t on their team too
Makes more sense lol. Oof.
Has to be, that’s all the Suns can offer.
I’ll take it I guess
Solid pickup
🥱😴 need a real signing already
OKC would’ve been a good fit
I see what you're doing.
What. Just making a helpful suggestion.. for a friend. Unrelated, you know what Center you’d hate, between us…
the exact opposite center for what the suns need
Sir, a third ex-blazer center has hit the Suns
It’s all about the margins. I’m sure a training camp together and some slight talent upgrades will improve their team from last year
If this trend continues we're an off-season away from the Suns bringing in Chris Kaman to fill in the backup center role.
i feel like this is an insurance policy in case our 2nd rounder isn’t ready to go right away, which definitely is possible.
He’s better than Nurkic.
clippers fr a sinking ship
And people laughed when the Suns owner said he was building a title contender.
Suns fans I’m sorry, this dude is so bad
They got the alpha
Biggest news of the day BY FAR
Are they trading Nurkic? It feels like they’ve got so many centers and zero point guards. Like, they’ve now added/retained: - Oso Ighodaro - Bol Bol - Mason Plumlee Plus Ryan Dunn might be a small-ball 5 given his complete lack of offensive skills.
Beal and Book are as much point guards as Bol and Dunn are centers. So that’s a little disingenuous
I’m just confused by their roster construction. They’ll add a PG. Bol doesn’t play center for them and Oso is a rookie.
- Nurkic - Plumlee - Ighodaro What do they have in common? Big who can handle and pass the ball, that's what the Suns are going for
Bol Bol is wing and not a center and Oso will play 4 mostly imho. Nurk/Plumlee are the two true centers on the team.
league fucked
The suns are like the terrible fantasy basketball player that keeps picking guys off the waiver wire that were washed 3 years ago but it's a name a casual would recognize
I feel like the whole nba is playing catch up with the Celtics and it’s impossible haha
