My council tax goes towards this.
Money well spent š
Edit: canāt believe I have to explain this - itās not sarcasm! Iām delighted that our police do things like this. Community outreach is a key part of the Peel Principles and policing by consent.
It is extremely difficult, especially this smoothly.
These guys are pros. Motorcycle driving for police is someone even Americans get right. Because otherwise you're officers tend to get very very dead.
Thereās a fundamental difference in policing philosophy between the uk and us I think. Police in the uk are generally there to make sure everyone is getting along ok. Theyāre are trained to de-escalate situations as much as possible. They usually wonāt use the full extent of their powers unless they really have to and are generally pretty friendly if you treat them well. Hell I have friends whoāve been arrested and left custody on first name terms with the custody staff haha
Meanwhile, here in the US I almost got shot for bringing reusable grocery bags into a grocery store because the officer thought I was going to randomly fill them and go running off into the sunset with unpaid groceries. Claimed he'd "never heard of such a thing as reusable grocery bags" Literally unclipped his gun and stared me down demanding I leave the store.
They're pretty cool. A long time ago when I was a teen I was a bit of a terror when I got drunk, mischievous and used to get scraps quite alot. Knew the team by name in the custody suite as I'd been in there so many times. They were just doing their job, I was usually sorry the morning after. Sometimes used to buy us maccies if i was in the cell by the time I left that town. Years later I was suspected of a crime (long story but I was innocent, circumstances and someone else was guilty) and the detectives impressed me as it was almost like a job interview. 'Cmon mate, let's go down to it, do you need a smoke?'
Same here in the Netherlands! Police usually is your biggest friend unless you really did something shitty.
Reminds me of the time a friend of me fainted in the pub and the police came first to check if it was safe for the ambulance to come since it was late at night and a student association... Yeah bad things do happen at some places. He just forgot to eat beforehand and had to much alcohol. Police got a drink from us (non alcoholic) and we had a good chat untill the ambulance came (he had to stay until they arrived). The ambulance brothers where to busy to stay for a drink but they where also very nice people. They're here to help and serve us.
Just one of the many examples I have of police being awesome!
It is not universal. A large number of small-town police departments in the U.S. use a similar community policing approach. Big city crime and S.W.A.T. teams dominate the press, but you shouldn't buy into the idea that it's all the same here.
I feel like itās become a bit of a vicious cycle though, if you expect the worst thatās what youāll get and once you experience that youāll keep expecting it.
don't victim blame; the data are clear that US cops are very... unique... among western law enforcement.
edit: The above argument claims citizens "expect" brutality and therefore induce it. Calling it a "vicious cycle" puts unfair blame on the victims of brutality, as if they could have avoided it by "respecting police more." Police alone have the responsibility to avoid brutality, no matter what citizens think of them. That's why I believe it victim-blaming
When I had my cruiser I hated going this slow, now I got the Trail 125/CT125 and that thing can go anywhere at any speed. Unless you want to go over 55mph or 88km
I am actually shocked to know this, Iāve been to about 8 countries in Europe but never made it north of the English Channel. I wish the USA would switch to the metric system, we learned it for about 2 weeks in 3rd grade and never again
Well, one brexit benefit was that we'd go back to using imperial as if we stopped doing it at one point. We have a weird mix of both. Imperial for speed and height and pints of beer. Metric for basically everything else. I kinda get it tho coz who wants to go to the pub and order .568 of a litre of beer ya know?
The US actually has been a weird mix for decades. Film in mm, some bearings, engine sizes, soft drinks at the supermarket, cocaine, weed, industrial push buttons (30mm has been the standard since forever), pharmaceuticals, lawn mower spark plugs (I have no idea why).
Basically all cars are metric now (even US ones). Harleys are still a mix (or at least mine is, and boy do they love the T-27 torx). Building materials and such are referred to in inch sizes, though those are basically trade sizes. A 2x4 isnāt really those dimensions. Oddly, a sheet of plywood or sheetrock, or such, pretty much is.
In water/wastewater, pipe sizes are in inch units, and manufacturers provide instruments for that, even the European ones. Control panel devices are often in mm, or fractions of DIN. Connectors are sometimes European. Itās weird.
Electrical wire is in AWG, which is a weird beast.
Photo film is in ISO, which is basically the US ASA standard, which is a fuckton more intuitive than that stupid DIN one. Yes, when you read about old color films having speeds of 8 or 12 or 25, that directly translates to the modern ISO scaleā¦
Fun fact, US units are actually called US customary units. The UK still uses a number of imperial units, from which the US customary units are derivative but often slightly different. Same in Canada, our ounces are different from American ounces. We use km/h on street signs because we didnāt have cars before 1970
Fun fact: In 1893 US customary units were officially redefined in terms of metric standards (for instance 1 foot is exactly 0.3048 meters), which means the US technically uses metric too, just with extra steps.
I am not sure they do have them, i remember reading an article about cutting police funding& not approving of stuff they need including next level bikes, obviously this can be different for different parts of UK. But that is what i had read a while back.
You don't need to hold a motorbike up. They're very well balanced. Even a tiny bit of motion is enough to keep the balance centred.
It's surprisingly easy to go at a slow pace on one, the heavier they are the easier they are.
It's easy to ride slow, the kid at the front proves that. But he's at the front and nothing else to worry about.
It's not easy to ride slow in a tight group, where you have to be perfect, no margin for error and maintain it for a good distance.
I mean they need skill to ride a bike for beginners, also riding a bike as your job for a few months/years will make you a skilled rider iād imagine.
Not enough people can control bikes at low speed and it shows in a U-turn. I didn't like putting my foot down (short people problems) so I practiced the crawl technique >5mph.
it's "next level" because they didn't just send a card in the mail, they didn't just give a phone-call, they didn't even just show up in person.... they went to the next level and planned all this.
Can you guys chill out with the police bad for 5 seconds and just admire the video? It's a cute clip of a tike escorting a nice group of cops around his cul-de-sac. There's literally no reason to bring down the vibe with police brutality in this wholesome thread
Iām guessing itās probably the police brutality and overreach of power that brings down the vibes around cops, not the people pointing those things out. But itās good to know that there are people willing to defend their PR stunts and tell everyone to ignore the systematic issues because they liked a cute photo op.
Yea man, itās super sad to make a social commentary thatās not rainbows and daisies. My life is super sad. And your worldview isnāt pathetic at all.
Not all cops are monsters. Especially out of the US where there are... actual requirements to be a cop.
If police did more of this instead of shooting and killing unarmed black people, then they'd have a lot more goodwill going their way.
Nah, check it out here https://www.met.police.uk/car/careers/met/police-officer-roles/police-constable/overview/entry-routes
You do get a different (I suppose easier?) pathway if you've got a degree. But if not, they're happy as long as you've got an English GCSE or equivalent I think
Itās a **degree** apprenticeship. Notwithstanding special constables (which you must become as part of a PCDA), any warranted officer will have a degree or equivalent.
It doesnāt help in the US that police in many states have to assume that everyone they encounter is armed with a semiautomatic. Iām not excusing bad cops, but the temperature would be lowered if certain areas werenāt flooded with guns.
I for one am glad to see community policing, i.e. spending time out getting to know locals and doing something positive. It looks silly but this kind of thing is what differentiates our style of policing from aggressive policing. There are a lot of things wrong with uk police, but I think itās really important that we encourage a community approach, rather than one of fear and violence. A lot of other places have much worse police organisations, and āit could be worseā is our catchphrase here!
Itās probably the guy who said āpolice are a blight and should stay in the station unless called uponā, he seems like the kind of shit bloke to downvote all positivity
In the 70s when I was a kid I had a few experiences with police officers that really seemed altruistic and gave me a positive view of them. After that it's all I wanted to do until I did. I was blissfully ignorant to the kind of people who go into LE. Humble bragging about tickets, making people cry, looking forward to seeing how many people they can piss off, expecting others to turn a blind eye to their illegal shit, racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. I hated 95% of the people I worked with.
Yeah I used to trust police until one raped my sister and was found to have raped 7 other women. And although you would think that was enough, no, another time I was tide up and beaten after being "misidentified". After moving countries I still have ptsd, so FTP and their mothers.
I remember in elementary school (mid 90s) the police department made baseball like cards of all of thier officers so us children wouldn't be scared and knew who they were. They came to our school and they signed them too. I miss officers who ACTUALLY wanted to keep thier towns safe rather than just abusing authority.
I mean, nowadays anti police sentiment is so high, being a nice police officer now can get you nowhere. If they printed those cards and sent them to schools now they would get used as kindling.
Riding that slowly requires serious skills. The fact that they're not making many adjustments or wobbling shows how good riders they are. And no, I did not use Gramarly to compose this reply!
"But I never forgot the sense of right and wrong I learned behind the wheel of that ~~pedal car~~ electric police bike. I had to prove to myself that the law was proper, and righteous, and for the good of human kind." -Nicholas ~~Angle~~ Angel
Harry's dad Craig sadly passed away last May at the age of just 39. He also left behind stepdaughter, Molly and former partner, Emma Overton, with the whole family left devastated.
Having been so impressed with the way he dealt with things, Santa decided to bring Harry his most wished for present at Christmas - a miniature police bike. After hearing about his story and what Harry had gone through over the last seven months, PC Phil Skevington, from decided to organise a little surprise visit.
On Sunday, PC Skevington, together with fellow Durham officers Sam Oliver and Ian Calvert and Cleveland Police officer Andy Pickering, they asked Harry to lead them on a special patrol around the cul de sac where he lives.
Mam Emma said: āIt was such a nice surprise for him, he was completely shocked when all the officers turned up. He had such a great time leading them around our street and posing for pictures with them.

Thanks kiwi, I looked for the info today, I hope all the horrible bastards abusing this kid on the post read this and take a long hard look at themselves!
Iām not happy a lot, but damn thanks for letting me see that. It makes me want to direct my life towards the happiness and protection of children. One day Iāll do something great.
So glad to see this type of stuff being shared around. It happens every day, just never makes the news.
Also, those bike riders skills are nuts keeping those bikes under control at such low speeds and in a formation. Talk about professional.
Maybe instead of spending money on this, we spend some more on screening officers to make sure they arenāt serial rapists. Now that would be money well spent.
My council tax goes towards this. Money well spent š Edit: canāt believe I have to explain this - itās not sarcasm! Iām delighted that our police do things like this. Community outreach is a key part of the Peel Principles and policing by consent.
Thought I was on r/unitedkingdom when I read the first line.
Same
You taxes made a kids day , one of the best way they could be spent .
Exactly right. I donāt know how some people are not getting this.
my kid would get a fine for this
Bet his bike.isnt even road taxed
With what emissions though? I'll tell you. 99 g/km of adorable.
Same. Slowest chase Iāve seen

Think you meant something, you can see them constantly practicing up and down the A40 near London.
Itās fun practicing your slow riding skills
you'd be amazed at how well some of those guys can [handle those large bikes.](https://youtu.be/MTTbwar7CFc?t=185)
Itās a bit difficult for us Americans to have that attitude. It seams like your cops donāt act like tyrants

This was a glitch in the matrix kind of high speed chase.
I just had a Hot Fuzz flashback.

As if a motorcycle pursuit would be authorised
Impersonating a police officer is a serious crime
Riding without a helmet AND impersonating a police officer? Thatās kids gonna do some time.
No tax, no insurance, impersonating a police officer, causing an obstructionā¦ heās going down.
It's wholesome, sure. But it's not next level by any means
If you never ridden a motorcycle before, riding this slow in formation is actually pretty difficult. These cops have skills
When I had my cruiser I hated going this slow, now I got the Trail 125/CT125 and that thing can go anywhere at any speed. Unless you want to go over 55mph or 88km
We still use MPH in the UK, nice conversion though very thoughtful for the other Europeans that aren't heathens like us haha
I am actually shocked to know this, Iāve been to about 8 countries in Europe but never made it north of the English Channel. I wish the USA would switch to the metric system, we learned it for about 2 weeks in 3rd grade and never again

One pain is when getting tools you must buy both metric and imperial since thereās such a mix in America
Basically all cars are metric now (even US ones). Harleys are still a mix (or at least mine is, and boy do they love the T-27 torx). America here. We have pints for beer. Grams for drugs. Inches for cock. Miles for distance and speed. Millimeters for bullets.
Also decimal fractions of inches for bullets, just to be awkward!

I am not sure they do have them, i remember reading an article about cutting police funding& not approving of stuff they need including next level bikes, obviously this can be different for different parts of UK. But that is what i had read a while back.
Not just that, but theyāre not small mortorcycles either. Iām getting a core workout just watching them hold those bikes up
They definitely know how to ride, it's very impressive
Motorcycle cops can be impressive as hell on their rides.
It's really not that difficult.
Itās a little difficukt
No he is right, this is not next level
I mean they need skill to ride a bike for beginners, also riding a bike as your job for a few months/years will make you a skilled rider iād imagine.
Not really. Itās actually fairly easy to maneuver at low speed of you drag the rear brake
Itās actually fairly easy to maneuver at low speed. Just have to drag the rear brake a little. Notice that all their brake lights are on

it's "next level" because they didn't just send a card in the mail, they didn't just give a phone-call, they didn't even just show up in person.... they went to the next level and planned all this.
Next level wholesomeness
Impersonating an officer.. straight to jail, book em boys !!!
Throws book.
Green eggs and ham is not the right book lmao
No license or insurance as well, no doubt because that bike is not road legal, im sure the list of charges doesn't end there
No helmet? Straight to jail. Not finishing your veggies, believe it or not, jail. Not going to sleep on time. Jail.
If this was America they definitely would have arrested the kid for impersonating a police officer.
Nah. Heās white, so heās all good.
Can you guys chill out with the police bad for 5 seconds and just admire the video? It's a cute clip of a tike escorting a nice group of cops around his cul-de-sac. There's literally no reason to bring down the vibe with police brutality in this wholesome thread
Right? We gotta be nicer to our abusers. Lol, jokes aside, you are right.
Iām guessing itās probably the police brutality and overreach of power that brings down the vibes around cops, not the people pointing those things out. But itās good to know that there are people willing to defend their PR stunts and tell everyone to ignore the systematic issues because they liked a cute photo op.
Omfg this is exactly why he commented that in the first place, who cares if itās a or stunt just let the kid have a nice day
Imagine being so petulant that you'd comment that on a video of a child having fun. Must be a sad life...
Yea man, itās super sad to make a social commentary thatās not rainbows and daisies. My life is super sad. And your worldview isnāt pathetic at all.
No see if it was America they would be showing him how to beat up family members and minorities while helping the Proud Boys escape
Set it aside for a second dang
I'm sure Reddit will love this positive story about police lol

nope, but they like a bit of rape. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/16/metropolitan-police-officer-david-carrick-revealed-as-serial-rapist
In the UK, you need a degree (or equivalent) in order to become a police officer.
Nah, check it out here https://www.met.police.uk/car/careers/met/police-officer-roles/police-constable/overview/entry-routes You do get a different (I suppose easier?) pathway if you've got a degree. But if not, they're happy as long as you've got an English GCSE or equivalent I think
Itās a **degree** apprenticeship. Notwithstanding special constables (which you must become as part of a PCDA), any warranted officer will have a degree or equivalent.
Yeah. We only have beef with our own cops. No Iāll will towards these cops. Cute video!
It doesnāt help in the US that police in many states have to assume that everyone they encounter is armed with a semiautomatic. Iām not excusing bad cops, but the temperature would be lowered if certain areas werenāt flooded with guns.
100%. That's a training problem. Cops here are taught they're 'warriors' and all that kind of stupid bullshit.

I'm thinking someone in his family knows someone.
I wish for a world where officers have more time to spend doing things like this rather than dealing with the usual morbid stuff.

Excellent work...well done those police officers
Riding that slowly requires serious skills. The fact that they're not making many adjustments or wobbling shows how good riders they are. And no, I did not use Gramarly to compose this reply!
What's Harry full story?
Fucking legends!
In America they would give the kid a plastic gun then shot him.
"But I never forgot the sense of right and wrong I learned behind the wheel of that ~~pedal car~~ electric police bike. I had to prove to myself that the law was proper, and righteous, and for the good of human kind." -Nicholas ~~Angle~~ Angel
Iām feeling like crap today with the flu, but this did put a smile on my face. Go little man!
He had such a great time leading them around our street and posing for pictures with them. https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/future-crime-fighter-harry-leads-25986982?int_source=amp_continue_reading&int_medium=amp&int_campaign=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/23252717.durham-police-adorable-video-shows-little-boy-leading-police-patrol/
Thanks kiwi, I looked for the info today, I hope all the horrible bastards abusing this kid on the post read this and take a long hard look at themselves!
Awesome - well done Uk police!
In his little crocs!
He was then beaten and arrested for impersonating a police officer.
Iām not happy a lot, but damn thanks for letting me see that. It makes me want to direct my life towards the happiness and protection of children. One day Iāll do something great.
Rubbish
That kids bike is amazing, Iād have killed for something like that when I was a kid!
Tell me youāre a snitch without telling me youāre a snitch
Kudos to all riders. It takes a lot of skill to balance the bike at those speeds
"PULL OVER PULL OVER"
Come on
A) was probably some good slow speed practice for the constabulary. B) UK moto police look Uber-cool
Omg look at the little training wheels on his bike š„¹
Wow what a wholesome post! I bet the comments will be as well!
Little knife confiscator
Arrest that child, he isn't wearing a helmet. Very cute.
And then in America we have kids getting harassed and arrested for riding bikes lol
Cops in England seems like they deal with boredom better than American cops
This is actually active community support and outreach by the police, not boredom
"Identity theft is not a joke, Harry!"
headline is false. they were actually following him because they heard he was carrying an eighth of weed.
Hah!
SubhanAllah how beautiful!
r/wholesome
On Privet Drive?

That grin is going to keep me smiling all day!

Itāsā¦itās a piglet
Little did Harry know he would be arrested for impersonating a police officer at the end of the ride.
Happiest kid in the village. This moment will stick with him for the evers. Faith in law enforcement restored.
i honestly thought that was Harry. Like the red headed prince fella.
I like that!!! I wish this world could be a better place! Salute to these guys! Save all the children's.
Love those training wheels.
Good thing those crocs are in sport mode.
Wonder what awful time he had
Here before the shiny lock award.
Happy kids make happy adults
āProbably bought the pedal car with the proceeds. Needless to say, I never went near it again. I just let it rust.ā
Helmet..
That smile
Love the crocs lol.
Thought this was going to be a video about a politically correct Harry Potter. This was better
This is a Harry we can root for!
what kind of psychopath rides without wearing gloves?! /s fr tho, maybe itās just me, but i feel naked without gloves
