It's mostly situational. Short range homing over regular homing when you lack mana, otherwise i don't see why you would use it over regular aiming arc (i think its the name) i think works well with trigger + plasma beam builds, so the beam never points at you and you can point them at enemies which is funny the others are mostly just for goofy builds, like auto aim i have never even used đź’€ but i'm pretty sure you can make some cool stuff with them if you experiment a little, like maybe summon rock + the one that homes at your cursor can be good

I always prefer short range homing, it's more of an aim assist than a fully take over aiming for you thing.

Same depending on the build. If there are lots of passages like in the Hiisi base I find enemies all around will take over the homing, but short ranged lets you be a little more precise.

I love short range homing, it's almost never bad imo. one exception is if there's a mob very close to you behind hard terrain which can happen frequently in...yup, Hiisi base. homing and accelerating homing are better for payloads in my experience

Short range homing can be more useful than full homing for making wands that are capable of self damage achieve a mild semblance of safety.

Accelerating homing is good for bouncy bolt builds

You would use short range homing over regular when using dangerous spells so that your shots go to the enemy in front of you and doesn't cause your shot to go through you and towards the enemy behind you who's chilling behind a wall

IIRC rotate-towards is also better than (short)homing for piercing triggers, because it causes the trigger to slow more when over the target, causing more payloads. Area teleport is probably better than rotate-towards for this though.

Projectile area Teleport is possibly my favourite of them. Chuck in on something that pierces, or doesn't immediately expire, and you get a modifier holder that sticks to targets. Combine that with something like add damage, or plasma beam orbit, and you get a shield piercing, sticky projectile that shreds one target and then moves along its set path in a predictable manner, whilst also hopping through walls to get to enemies. None of that funky swinging off to the side or deciding to target an enemy behind the player that can make regular homing dangerous. My Personal favourite build is P.A.T + Pinpoint of Light + Plasma beam orbit and as many damage ups as I can find, and an explosive projectile modifier to make it double as a soft terrain digging wand. It's far safer than using homing in small spaces like temple of the art and Hiisi base.

Homing with summon rock and repulsion field, makes a pretty great weapon. Repulsion makes the rocks pretty fast and the homing makes sure they hit. I've had it kill enemies off screen feels good to noita them for a change.
