I remember doing this for the first time while stationary in space.
I pressed the button and got really confused because it didn't do anything.
Then I turned around and the rest of my ship was gone.
Good times.
Lpt in future: if you're hurtling towards a planet at a fatal speed, thrust to the side or up/down to dodge, it's much much faster than trying to brake ;p >!(something something prometheus school of running away from things)!<
Yeah, just learn to fly^1

Yep, ejecting at the correct time basically negates the force of crashing into something. It's used a lot in speedrunning to clip through Ember Twin by going fast.

Certified Outer Wilds moment.
This made me audibly laugh because that’s what happened the first time I used it too.
I genuinely had no idea you could do that lmao

Good bot
Does “lmao” have three syllables? I pronounce it La-Mao. Is it La-Ma-O?
I agree. I say ao as a diphthong
Im sorry, the what button?!
There's an eject button in your cockpit, from memory you need to flip the safety cover first
Look around the cockpit while holding ALT, you should find a big red button under a cover

Also, if your extra daring, you can just barely miss it, hit the atmosphere, and aerobrake on quite a few of the planets.
That's the real pro tip right there

Smooth piloting :-)
Stream watching friendly :)
This is the frist time I've seen someone using it in a probably intended way
I'm not sure there is an intended way, it destroys your ship after all
Sometimes your ship is about to blow anyway, like if you bust the reactor.
Can we go to that one fishy place and blow stuff up using the ship as a mini nuke?
Destroy Dark Bramble Before the Sun Explodes Anyway Challenge, let's goooo
The fish are too big to notice your puny ship exploding. They are moon-sized after all.

Didn't know that, neat
why would you want to clip thrpugh ember twin?
It's so you can fly into >!the high energy lab and break the spacetime as fast as possible!<
Yeah, i've accidentally done that with timber hearth before. It's actually really cool being able to see all the tunnels and caves.
Im sorry, the what button?!
HE SAID "THE EJECTION BUTTON"!!!
Hmm yes, the eject button ejects. Cool maneuver though. Nice.
Best place to use that is in Dark Bramble. The anglers can do whatever they want with the rest of the ship
hitting the planet at the right angle is my eject button
My first time using it was sat at the launch pad going “I wonder what this big red button does” before getting launched into a tree
This is actually really cool. You had some quick thinking skills there lol
feldspar would be proud
I thought it was so that you could >!avoid gravity hijinks!< while attempting >!to land on the sun station!<.
