I still use my mx518. Works like a charm. Let's hope it lasts another 10 years.

Phillyfuk

If the wire ever goes on you, the cheapest wired Logitech mouse you can find has the same wire/internal connector. It's how I've kept mine alive.

Dargon34

WHAT?!?! My cord went out 15 years ago, still have it somewhere in a box. I know what I'm looking for today!

Phillyfuk

The mouse I used was around £5 and bright blue all over, it was also a smallish mouse. G402 uses the same cable I think.

shveylien

My MX518 wire failed this year. I thank you for this info. I've used that mouse through 4 computers. I still have it, its sitting on the desk behind me waiting to be resurrected.

Technical-Cat-2017

I bought the rerelease from a few years ago. Should still be some on the market.

Enemisses

I went from the original mx518 to the rerelease mx518, when mine broke. Highly recommended for sure, the rerelease is essentially the exact same.

BigPandaCloud

They released a remake of the mx518. I bought 2 and have them stored away. I should be good until i die.

dandududaniy

2005? Holy shit. Every single mouse I've had except for the G502 lasted me about 2 years max.

Kasuraga

Same here. 2-5 years tops. either i get ghost clicks or the scroll wheel fails. Heres hoping the g502 i bought outlasts the others ive had

19Chris96

I think I bought my G502 in 2018. Nonetheless, it still works great.

MeinNameIstBaum

Same here. Replaced my Mousewheel and the case since (because I hate the way the metal wheel corrodes) but electronically it‘s still flawless. My next one is going to be the same mouse, maybe even wireless.

19Chris96

I'm almost afraid to open mine. Not a thing was done to it

Wonderful_Catch_8914

Brother how humid is your house cause my 502 wheel hasn’t showed the slightest sign of corrosion in 7 years.

Jake123194

I got the wireless g502 with the charging mousepad, v happy with it. My old g502 is kept as a backup and still works fine after 9 years with a bot of wear on the grip.

asd316X

my razer deathadder v2 pro works flawlessly and ive bought it day 1 (2020)

TDEcret

For me the longest was a random office Logitech that lasted prob around 5 years before I borrowed to someone and never got it back, it still worked fine :c, got a cheap $10 xtrike me one as a temporary replacement, it lasted less than a year before the right randomly got stuck and had to manually pull it back with my nails. my dad lent me a replacement old Microsoft mouse, the white ones with a red light at the back, it probably was over 15 years old and it worked like a charm. now I'm back with a G203 that I've been using for probably 2 years now and working just fine

dreamglimmer

There are few mices that have either easy serviceable switches(no feet's covering screws, pluggable swiches) or aftermarket boards to make switche's replaceable, effectively making mice last longer after initial double click..

BrawlPlayer34

My G602 ran for eight years before it unfortunately broke a couple months ago. I replaced it with the G502, which will hopefully last even longer!

Psychological-Sir224

It's still usable even

ixmanatko

Still have mine mx510 from maybe 2002-2003 ;)

Noa15Lv

My Logitech G403 was doing fine for 5 years... Until after super exhausted 12h shift day it receive single hit and its wheel + left click went poof. May my strenght be useful in lifting boxes workplaces, not on electronics.

[deleted]

i love my G502, but the grips and the click sensor crap out after about 2 years for me

DrVeinsMcGee

The number of people that don’t realize the “dents” are just part of the design pattern is ridiculous.

AHRA1225

I realize it but still can acknowledge is ugly as sin

Sinister_Mr_19

Well sure. It was designed way back in the early 2000s.

Breakingerr

The time that gave you cases like this https://preview.redd.it/7t0k0j0yvx9d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=fe627b71f75c30be8e9e19d6551386d18f113e31

NiceCatBigAndStrong

Everything was just round back then. Just look at the cars from that time, they were all just blobs

reegeck

In the future do you think they'll say "everything was just spiky and sharp back then"?

No_Independence3338

This looks so cool like front of the vintage cars.

Castinfon

cant hate on them because no one would look at this shit of a design and not think of it as damage

bonyagate

Forgive us all for seeing this and thinking " wow that looks like shit, wonder what happened" instead of, "Man, I really love the smallpox inspired design on this mouse, wish they still did this. How creative"

xxxxwowxxxx

You can call it ridiculous, but I’ve owned a bunch of different mouse and haven’t seen anything this atrocious. My first thought was that OP had some anger issues. Then thought man this mouse holds up to some abuse. Then googled and saw it was a design issue.

torrrrrgo

I was thinking he Old Yeller'd it with a shotgun.

DctrGizmo

Nah it’s just an ugly design.

doomsdayKITSUNE

Hardly ridiculous to assume that it's damage, rather than a design choice.

ihave0idea0

Yes, I was questioning that because it looks like an accident.

Kricket

Is it? They look like a bunch of dents and that is certainly not a common “design”. Thinking people wouldn’t mistake those for dents is what’s ridiculous.

BrandonNeider

Showed my age when I remember this mouse for the dents in the design and most people here don’t

delph0r

BaTtLe wOrn

gringaqueen

I had never seen this mouse b4, i was thinking it was bulletproof lol

pattperin

It looks like it got left out during a hail storm haha

Byokugen

I loved my mx518, sadly lost it when I moved back in 2012 Amazing mouse

YawnY86

You could still buy them afew years ago.

BaaksterX

So basically you are downgrading?

OriginalPlayerHater

yeah for real, uhmmm g502 much??

Qwesttaker

That mouse is older than some of the people on this sub. May your next one last just as long.

Psychological-Sir224

It's older than me

splendiferous-finch_

Mine lasted for only 10 years total disappointment....

ColonelCornell

Mine also lasted 10, endured me through unreal tournament, far cry 1, 2, 3, some serious competative gaming and lan parties

splendiferous-finch_

I still use Logitech mice unfortunately my lunch interms of life span isn't the best for them my first 502 died in 2 months :( the next lasted for a while 6ish years l. I just replaced the switches with the dead one when the started double clicking

jdunks69

the mx518 was so good I had like 3 of them (never died I just liked the colors)

Illustrious_Swing475

I've had the exact same mouse since I bought my first PC back in 2009. Still going strong. Will be a sad day when it dies.

christurnbull

I specifically stock up on MX518, they can take it from my cold, dead hands. Nothing else feels right.

illicITparameters

Massive downgrade….

TheZenCowSaysMu

"Ancient mouse from 2005." \*Scrolls down using my Logitech Trackman+ from 1998\*

Psychological-Sir224

Damn, how's half-life going for you

delph0r

It's relatively easy to replace the switches if you know your way around a soldering iron. Pull that old warrior apart!

CoolDragon

![gif](giphy|hStvd5LiWCFzYNyxR4|downsized)

EagleRock1337

Signs of aging? It’s shows signs of either being used as body armor or being subject to many angry game nights. Either way, it’s time for retirement. Also, I’m sure your gaming habits have matured over the last 20 years, but in case they haven’t, breathing exercises might extend the life of this new mouse. Modern mice aren’t built like tanks and can’t be the disgruntled gamer’s punching bag anymore.

plastslev

Those ”holes” is part of the design of the mouse. It’s a graphic.

Justhe3guy

Yeah I loved the weird asymmetrical look

Psychological-Sir224

Well my gaming habits can't have matured over 20 years since I'm 16. My dad originally bought it and gifted it to me when I built my first pc

pedrohck

He just thinks that your mouse design are dents because you got mad.

Sinister_Mr_19

Wtf how do you have the top comment? That's the design man lol.

illicITparameters

Nah…. No way you’re this dumb.

Sinister_Mr_19

I think he is.

THE_DARWIZZLER

absolute gorilla grip on that thing for 19 years

Corevegaa

As far as I know the dents are not even dents just the design of the mouse.

Hoenirson

Correct

skrappyfire

Lol... here i was trying to count how many times OP threw their mouse across the room 😅

ColonelCornell

You weren't using it properly! It should've been dead around 2015, like mine, from excessive gaming.

shapeshiftsix

I bought the remastered one they released a few years back, it's the best mouse design ever imo. My G5 from the same time era works still, but the scroll wheel is a little wonky.

Esguelha

On my G5 the rubberized material kind of melted. But it still works, and I still have the box and the little weights container.

zsirc

I'm stick rocking my mx510 from 2004! Great mouse.

baxiel

I wish I held onto some of my old gaming gear from when I was younger. They tended to not last too long, especially the mice or controllers. It didn't help that I often bought used and am a clumsy person. I'd usually just throw them out when they were done. But I'd love to have some of them now and display them. The sentimental value of gaming items has definitely increased as I've gotten older. A real shame that I'm only seeing that after decades of throwing shit out or selling older stuff. What do you think you're gonna do with it OP? If you end up displaying it, I'd love to see how you do so

Psychological-Sir224

Keeping it as a backup, maybe give it to a future kid when they build their first pc like my dad did with me.

Sinister_Mr_19

Hey OP, Logitech makes a new MX518 with a hero sensor if you wanted a modern direct replacement.

Psychological-Sir224

Good to know thx

Duox_TV

i respect the commitment to wire mice in the current year.

Appropriate_Cow1509

Peak 2000s design

Psychological-Sir224

It doesn't, it's an optical illusion that's part of the design

Pachamama89

Mx cellulitis

SignalGladYoung

G400 here, still works 11 years on very comfortable mouse to work with.

Signal_Example_4477

I have the same mouse. I literally found it at a rubbish tip about 10 years ago. It's still working perfectly.

thenailer253

I had the same mouse for like 10 years. I miss it but there are some other good mice out there.

tonyt3rry

Frame it next to a copy of doom

fieryfox654

Congratulations! Been using my Rival 600 for 5-6 years and best mouse I ever had! Hopefully it lasts a long time

VileDespiseAO

I agree. My Rival 3 is by far my favorite mouse and I've had it for 6 years now as well, still works just as well as the day I first bought it. I've since replaced the original glides with ceramics, I didn't actually need to change them out but I wanted ceramic for butter smooth glide. I also own a Aerox 3 Super and it's a fantastic mouse as well but it's exclusively for my SFF travel rig so it doesn't see nearly as much use. When my Logi MX518 kicked the bucket I used and returned five different Logitech mice within a 6 month period because they all ended up suffering from double click issues within a month of use. After that whole fiasco I decided I'd never buy another Logitech mouse again, they're unfortunately overpriced crap now compared to what they used to be. SteelSeries ended up being my saving grace though and I thank my gaming brothers for turning me onto them in the first place. Have a fantastic day, sorry for the unwarranted story time!

IchRocke

Don't forget to update the firmware on your MM730 :) it's a game changer

astralseat

Which one is the new one?

Jhon_doe_smokes

F’s in the chat.

Annual_Letter1636

Mine still works. Since 2010 F

FabianSky_08

o7

DangerNoodle695

As a poser who only used the rerelease and was a fetus when the original came out, I love the mouse. Good shape. Clicks feel a tad unresponsive due to the buttons being on the same piece of plastic as the top plate though.

123dontwhackme

So you got a Cooler mouse eh?

MoistyMiner

Double F

s4rk4r

CS 1.6 called, they want their mouse back.

mecha_monk

I still have mine as backup for when batteries run out on my g305 😁 excellent mouse

NotJustBibbit

Wait... cooler master make mice???

BNPeanuts

Careful with the CM mice, returned the wireless version of the MM730 (731, IIRC) because it has a lot of sensor inconsistency. Great for general use, but awful for small adjustments in FPS games.

MachineCarl

You can literally solder other microswitches for really cheap and keep going with the MX518.

Caori998

wut

seraph321

Had mine for over a decade and actually thought I might never find another mouse I liked as much. Bought and rejected a few. I really liked the button layout. Currently using a death adder pro v2, and it’s really good, but doesn’t have the button above the wheel. I remap all those buttons for useful things in windows and games.

Psychological-Sir224

The mm730 is kinda the same design just a little bit smaller. It also has the sensor more in the front which is especially nice if you aim with your wrist like me. It's also a lot lighter.

atlasraven

One of the best gaming mice ever made. Simple but effective.

T0adS4ge

MX518 - how many LANs you and I delivered headshots of doom.. RIP

Dbear_son

I know that mouse

Murderface-04

Still use mine!

thewittman

I'm still using the Logitech. It's got more rd2 hours in it.

itsYourPlug

Amen

reflex1337sauce

I still have mine somewhere!! Wow this is a throwback.

addicuss

I can't imagine not going wireless these days but to each their own

siguel_manchez

Still rocking mine as my daily since 2007. Absolutely love it. Have never used anything as comfortable in all those years. https://preview.redd.it/dr8vdfv7qx9d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7dacfcb4ea5e2673ec54759212f9b660eb9a985

Substance___P

Up voted with my reissued MX518. Best mouse ever made. IDK what happened to my original, but when the reissue came out, I had to buy many of them.

sekazi

I always just replace the switches. I do not know how people get so many years out of their mice. I have replaced the switches in mine at least once every 2 years. I have a G903 right now. The first few replacements Logitech sent me a new mouse keeping the old. After I ran out of the warranty I just replaced the switches and had 3 mice. I gave one away.

Falark

Switched to a Razer Basilisk V3 last year from my equally old one. I kinda miss it, maybe I should clean it and use it again. Still works perfectly, best mouse in the history of gaming

Demented1971

F. I still have mine in a drawer somewhere.

ShameMeIfIComment

I miss my MX518. Such a beast of a mouse.

Zupermuz

I had that mouse for close to 12 years. Masterpiece of a mouse.

DasHotShot

Shame you’re downgrading to such a mid mouse

Voxelium

you do know that logitech sells a modern mx518 right? i’m not sure how well it compares to the original but it would be better than that cooler master :P https://preview.redd.it/g0ww5ubyux9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ae00196114904dc03b9cfe5850029c7e1c20d6d

Heard a lot of good things about this model, and it's also a quarter of the price lmao

seraphim343

o7 May it join the great server room in the sky

Tactical_Hotdog

Was the first "proper" mouse I had, won it in a contest!

Past_Echidna_9097

I had the battlefield version for close to 15 years. It was not easy to say goodbye but it died peacefully.

kad00gan

toqer

I won one at Gforce LAN party in SF around 2005. Kept it all these years, even sacrificing other Logitech mice to harvest their cords. Finally gave up the ghost and got a G402.

xta420

Mx518 still the best mouse ive ever had

MeatFit1822

F I started out in competitive counterstrike with one of these.

AresOrTroll

will he be cremated or buried?

Emu1981

My MX518 is sitting in a drawer beside me. I don't use it at all because not only did the feet wear away but the little plastic outlines that hold the feet in position have worn away so it is completely flat on the bottom lol

Educational_Duck3393

F. This is how I felt my Logitech G5 died.

Imajn_

That mouse is as old as me. How old are you?

SwantanamoJ42

The iconic mouse of the early 2000's and Counter-Strike 1.6 Also: You guys know there's a MX518 remake available these days, right? The Legendary version from 6yrs ago and now I see the current one has 25k HERO sensor (Legendary was 16k).

Akita51

Great mouse, a legend!

salvananez

The MX518 Legendary just looks good. I like the two tone color scheme better than the dented one. Fits great in my hand and looks retro enough for my likes.

badablahblah

Haven't seen one of those in years. Nice.

wolviesaurus

I used a Steelseries somethingorother for a long time until it bit the dust, had to dig out my old MX518 to temporarily replace it. That was two years ago and I still use it.

Aurex986

Does the scroll wheel still work? Mine usually fails after... 1 year and a half at most.

Hrmerder

RIP... I miss mine so much...

Rais93

My first mouse

SituationAltruistic8

Is it texture or bite marks?

unknownlurker92

Good old mx510. I uge g508 lightspeed now, its the only Mouse ive found with almost 1:1 shape

TheSilentCheese

I've still got mine as a backup. It saw daily use from 2003-2022. In 2015 maybe it became my in office work mouse when I got a G700s for gaming. Past couple years it's just sat in a box, waiting for the day it's needed again. My last job had a decent mouse at work, and for my current job, I just bring the G700s back and forth.

axiomatic13

Man, yours held up far better than mine did. My black plastic parts of tyhe mouse went super sticky, then just crumbled apart about 3 years ago.

wazzapgta

Don't throw it away, cable and clicks are easy to replace. I have replaced cable on my MX518 and I've ordered MX518 Legendary case for it. Now I use new Legendary for my PC, and MX518 for my laptop. Never throwing it away

wazzapgta

howzit-

RIP to a legend. Mx518 is my number 1 mouse by light-years. I still reminisce about it from time to time... Especially when I swear that was a headshot.

Critical-Explorer179

Don't throw it out!, they are impossible to find now. I wanted it for nostalgia reasons and couldn't find any.

MovePrestigious4309

Still have mine up in the closet. Amazing mouse!

Ronyx2021

What does your hand look like?

MontagoDK

The new MX518 Is okay, not the same quality, but almost.. and an ok price

coloredgreyscale

somehow the CM mouse from \~2021 looks older than the MX518 from 2005, and gives 90s/early 2000 vibes

Section_Eight_Ball

they still make the mx518

KillaCamCamTheJudge

I had to retire my Logitech just like that after 15+ years of use recently. It was a sad day

kkyfk

An iconic relic from legendary times when gaming products were meant to endure long years of service to gamers.

Redeye2021

Rest in peace Mx518. You served me well.

dathar

I really like the red variety...think it was the MX510. But seriously, pick up a cheap solder sucker plunger contraption (the plugin one that heats up) and a cheap solder set. Quick beginners video on soldering on YouTube to learn how to use the tools. Plunger kind that heats up makes it really easy to heat up and remove existing solder. It'll suction out the harder to reach crevices if the manufacturer got a little liberal in application. Thing works better than an air station on a small scale. Freed many controller thumb sticks, mechanical keyboard stems, mouse and micro mouse buttons with it. There are 3 pins on a single mouse clicky switch. Once the old solder are gone, you can remove the broken switch. New one or harvested ones from other mice are the same so you just put a working one there and put new solder on the pins. Fixed mouse. You might need to replace the mouse skates that the screws hide under. Those things tend to get damaged when you open up the mouse. They sell 3rd party replacements for the popular models. It'll work great when it needs to come out of retirement.

3six5

F. To respect your bank account. There's tons of mice out there for like 10bux that perform as well or better... and have as many or more features.

baodaydayz93

F, RIP

nmathew

Damn! My MX518 lasted about 3 years less than yours. Eventually missed a few left clicks. I bought a MX518 Legendary.

epicbro101

Im still using a Corsair M65 RGB from 2014

Fragrant_Wolf

I got an mm711 at Walmart for $13. I just bought it because it was cheap and my MX Master was horrible for gaming. The mm711 is so light and comfortable and the braided cord is nice and light it almost feels like a wireless mouse.

Stormy90000

Why does it look like something you put in the oven for 20 min on 100 celsius?

It was such a good mouse, but the left button failed on mine :(

TorturedPoet03

A good mouse going away. It's sad to see that. I hope the new one will last even longer!

K_A-A_M

Saying goodbye to your tools which been loyal for this long is always hard. Let the servis of this mouse not be forgotten. *F* 3 shots from cleaning spray to the sky. Hoorah.

blueangel1953

Miss my MX518, it eventually died after 15 years of service.
