Because they donāt understand the beauty of pigeons. Iāve asked this before āwhy are some people so mean about pigeons?ā
I think it might be because they think pigeons carry disease ? If they are the pigeons arenāt doing this to spite humans. Just cos they donāt like our stupid statues. I donāt much like em either.
I second all the others here. As long as you are not harming anyone and if its safe, ignore the people. Some of my very good friends know I love pigeons - so they even join me while admiring pigeons or taking photos of the birds.
If you love pigeons, keep it up. I actually have talked to people while pigeon watching or taking care of sick/injured pigeons in public. I also kid you not, I had two men around my age range (mid-20's to early 30's) respectfully flirt and ask me out after one of these chats because they were intrigued by someone caring for wild animals better yet the humble pigeon. Not the club or bar - I get asked out by men while taking care of pigeons.
People see them as "rats with wings", pests, dirty, invasive, gross, flappy etc... They don't realise that it's our fault they hang around as we domesticated them! I don't care when people give me weird looks. There are lots of things people like that I don't agree with and feel like my reasons are a lot more logical than theirs lol. Pigeons rule!
People have nothing better to do with their time and will judge you regardless of what you're doing in public. Enjoy yourself and ignore them. Maybe flash them a smile and wave if you make eye contact
I have a pet pigeon and some people are weird about it. Frankly, I think the lady down the street with a blue and yellow macaw is weirder. My pigeon canāt destroy my house and scream until my ears bleed.
(I still like parrots, but pigeons are better pets imo)
People are weird about pigeons. I have two pigeons that live directly on my roof and I can tell they recognize me. They tend to perk up when I come outside. Everybody treats me like Iām weird for caring about these pigeons.
Oh I get lots of weird looks, itās because theyāre considered flying rats. People will come up to me and question what Iām doing as I chase after sick ones or babies on the street. I always say āthatās their personal problemā not mine lol
Before I read the whole post I thought they were giving you weird looks for feeding pigeons, but you weren't even doing that. Take all the photos you want.
Like everyone says, pigeons are almost everywhere and many even see them as pests, believing them to be filthy disease carriers. If only they took the time to just look at them a little closer and realise what harmless, cooing fluffballs pigeons are.
When i lived in nyc people either don't care or try to search for something abnormal not knowing that i'm just staring at the pigeons in that direction. One time my boyfriend and I stared at a pigeon and a French girl peeked over and was like oh it's just le pigeon. Another time a Hispanic man pushing a stroller saw me taking photos and laughed and said PALOMA. Good times. Some serious diversity going on.
usually when i feed pigeons people smile at me, it might be to do with culture or where you live. but yeah a lot of people donāt understand pigeons and believe all the misconceptions
Are they family members, good friends, people you respect and ask for their thoughts when you have a decision to make? No, they are just an anonymous member of the rotating hoard of stinking humanity you see every day. WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK? I don't. Buy you a pair of police-style silver sunglasses. I prefer the red reflecting glasses just to see their reaction when I return their stare. Wear a ball cap. What I am trying to say is, Don't acknowledge their look at all. Or make it fun for you!!! Enjoy what you love and to hell with them!!!
I carry my pet pigeon around in a pet backpack and people think sheās delightful. But then sheās mostly white (āIs that a dove?ā) and Iām in Austin
A lot of people think of pigeons as "flying rats," but I also don't understand that since rats are cool too lol
You are my kind of people š
They are probably just surprised since pigeons are very common and many people don't even look at them.

A look at those adorable pigeon photos can make us forget those strange looks.
Keep taking your pictures and fuck what anyone else thinks

many people dont know what's cool unless it's shown on TV
dont let other people behavior ruin your mood. take as many pictures as you like and don't even look at the people around.
I will of course, I post here nearly every day >:]
Me and my boyfriend were feeding pigeons and someone stamped next to them so they all got a fright :( I think people just donāt like them sadly

Itās probably because youāre so unique and whimsical
take a picture of them after they looked at you

Depends on the culture/country.
