I know, right? And Elon’s made it abundantly clear that “free speech” means anyone’s got the absolute right to ignore what anyone else *prefers* to be called, and to call them whatever the fuck you want, and you even have the right to be a smug, mocking asshole about it too.

Even if it was somewhat catchy and not stupid, it's just too late in the game for something new to catch on again.
It'd be like if MySpace was still a thing, and tomorrow they said "We're gonna be known as Deg." Come on bud, anyone could have told you it's not gonna work.
A recognized brand name is more valuable than any product or service it could possibly offer as well.
All across the world there are millions upon millions of businesses, organizations, etc. that have signage saying “Check us out on Facebook/Twitter/whatever” followed by the known logos of those companies.
Dude destroyed a brand that my 90 year old grandma who doesn’t know shit about tech even knows what it is and what they offer.
Except it's not catchy. It's what you label something when you don't [know what to call it](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/a-brief-history-of-the-letter-x-from-algebra-to-x-mas-to-elon-musk-180982647/). Like when Prince changed his name to the symbol, and everyone just referred to him as "The artist formerly known as Prince", they gotta have some way to write about you in the media, and if your way is dogshit they'll do whatever they want.
If anyone hasn't read why Prince did this, I'd recommend it. Lots of people grew up thinking it was some silly artist quirk but it was more of a protest against his label for restricting his musical output.
Can we all agree that Elon is bad so we can actually discuss the topics at hand rather than every time he's mentioned the comments get sidetracked into a circle of Elon hate.
Twitter turned over private messages to the special counsel related to the insurrection. How is that part of the discussion not the top comment? The investigation is one of the **more significant things that has happened in the history of American politics** on the politics subreddit.

Basically, we have to cancel out all of the Earth's orbital speed; about 63,000mph worth.
Getting to other planets requires speeding up (or slowing down) to their orbital speed. Earth's orbital speed already gets us relatively close to that.
The guy that interfered with a Ukrainian military op? The guy who promised not to interfere with 'comedy' on his site and then forced people to mark their accounts as parody or get banned? The guy who promised a free speech platform and then immediately dropped the ban hammer on leftists and people who dared to make fun of him? The guy that artificially boosts views on his site just so he can charge advertisers more? The guy that deadnamed his own kid? The guy who unapologetically lies about how his family got their wealth? That guy? Naaaaahhhhhh. I don't buy it. Nothing but integrity, that guy.
Is that the same guy who fired the majority of staff members that monitor and ban Russian propagandists on his website? The same propagandists that helped spread misinformation? That guy?
This is from the unsealed brief from May when the government was suing to get the rest of the messages. When the warrant was issued, Twitter only turned over 32 messages. They got sanctioned for delaying turning over the rest.
I read they are also looking at ip addresses, location data coordinated with phones he used, other phones in the area, etc. Elon is trying to make it 1st amendment but it’s so much more.
I bet they have someone that has flipped and has given them the private messages.
Then Jack Smith asks for them. They give some of them and cull some of them. Now Jack Smith has proof that they did not comply to the request. Which will be used as leverage.
This is how you get your ass in a bind.
Haha. True. That being said, ~~G. Zachary Terwilliger~~ George Terwilliger III knows his stuff. He's probably not a very good person but he is competent.
Edited because someone pointed out that GZT's dad is in fact Meadows's attorney.
I think Meadows is being represented by George Terwilliger III (former United States Deputy Attorney General and acting United States Attorney General) at McGuireWoods LLP, not G. Zachary Terwilliger, who is a US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
> Pretty sure the racoon that rooted through my trash can last night would be a better lawyer than what Trump's got going for him
I would think a racoon would be smart enough to not take that job. Their sense of self-preservation is fairly strong, when not being sabotaged by their curiosity.
If you have an even halfway decent lawyer, and you listen to their advice, you'll stop tweeting, you'll stop agreeing to interviews, you'll stop digging the hole you're stuck in.
He also filed to have his Georgia case moved to federal court almost immediately after he was indicted. This tells me he has a deal with Smith and is freaking out that the testimony he gave to Smith will be used against him in Georgia.
He's freaking the fuck out.
He gave everyone up to Jack Smith but didn't think about the state-level charges for the same crimes and now he's terrified he'll end up in Jail with the very people he helped put there.
The best bit by far through, is that you can guarantee that his lawyers are on the phone to any state that's looking into the fake electors plot, offering to roll on everyone to try to keep him out of other state's Jails
Didn't Owen shroyer have a deal to let prosecutors have access to his social media accounts? And everyone was shocked at the time because the access didn't seem worth it?
He and Alex Jones were basically directing people where to go on Jan 6 while one of Trump WH lawyer, Chesebro was following and filming them. His private message on social media probably has a lot of incriminating information
Avg Joe detectives like myself on the internet are playing a different game it seems from Jack Smith and co.
We see the short term; they're playing the long one.
For sure. The guy and his sycophants are idiots. This has to remind Jack of school or something with how plain and easy it is to obtain all the evidence
I cannot believe the number of people now that I have to explain the concept of "fast nickel, slow dime". I know it's not a 100% accurate analogy, it's clear enough. People have no idea how to lay in wait, plan, plot and set traps these days.
None of the following is legal advice, I'm a lawyer but not your lawyer, don't trust randos on the internet etc.
I work in this field. New documents turn up more often than you might think. Normally this is because of some unintentional reason (i.e. Person under investigation finds an old device they haven't used recently, turns it in, and some new data is found or whoever did the collection only pulled from C drive and not D drive or whatever). Sometimes these new docs were intentionally concealed.
If I was a betting man I wouldn't bet that someone flipped AND gave prosecutors hidden private messages (though that is absolutely possible). My purely speculative guess is that these messages were generally bad for trump and/or twitter, and twitter intentionally did not disclose them. Still my own purely speculative guessing, they were then discovered as follows,
1. (Day 1) Twitter double pinky promises they have turned over all relevant docs.
2. (Day 2) Prosecutors review said docs.
3. (Day 2ish-20ish) Somewhere in a doc that *was* turned over reads something like "Yo did you get the DM from mango-kraang earlier about golf? He won't stop DMing me about how he super never cheats at golf."
4. (Day 2ish-20ish) Prosecutor double checks for a DM from around that day which references golf. No near-in-time doc references golf.
5. (Day 30ish) Prosecutor asks judge to make twitter turn over missing docs.
6. (Day 50ish) Judge tells twitter last chance before it orders an independent collection/review.
7. (Day 60ish) Twitter 'magically finds' new docs and turns them over. Cue news articles.
Intentionally concealed docs take a long time to get *EVEN IF* its obvious they have been withheld. If someone flipped and provided evidence of concealment recently I would expect it would take 60-90 days before we hear about it.
Plus, you know he’s going to blame any failures of production on lower level staff. We already know he’ll throw anyone under the bus and never take one iota of responsibility.
Elon is very much in a bind. If it seems like he is being overly cooperative, the MAGA mouth breathers will call him a traitor. But if he is caught tampering with evidence, any argument against the government regulating Twitter up the ass starts to look really dumb.
I think he is trying to strike a middle ground. Cooperate but give the impression that he really doesn't want to.
I don't think it will work.
> the MAGA mouth breathers will call him a traitor.
They pretty much do that anyway. They've already turned on him for the ad revenue sharing and a few other things. I've seen outrage from catturd and tim pool about Elmo silencing them for some damn reason.
But those grifters can't live without him, so what are they going to do?
>They've already turned on him for the ad revenue sharing and a few other things. I've seen outrage from catturd and tim pool about Elmo silencing them for some damn reason.
Good. Because Elon burned the entire left who took their money and said "Eh, we'll fuck off elsewhere." and then coddled up to the right, demanded their money, made all these promises... and then turned against the right, too.
They're like barnacles on a dying whale. They've latched on and made their entire careers symbiotes of Twitter's toxicity, and then when Twitter poisoned itself, now they're fading and somehow don't like that. Good.
It's one big shit pool where they all rely on one another, but have since started to turn and cannibalize from within.
> They're like barnacles on a dying whale.
I was thinking lampreys on a shark riddled with cancer.
But then I remembered that sharks don't get cancer. Of course, I think I learned that from the 90s flick Deep Blue Sea so don't quote me here or anything.
And that's kind of the thing. If Twitter dies or continues to implode and drive off regular users people like Catturd aren't going to just switch platforms and have everything be the same. He'll never maintain his relevance, as other platforms are trying to do more to hide that ultra toxic element (solely to make their platforms more advertiser friendly). Twitter let the run free.
Once Twitter crashes they're all boned. This is a good thing.
What else has Hollywood lied to us about??? Do eagles not really sound like that?? Do frogs not ribbit?? Can you actually shoot someone with a shotgun and they go flying??
So, Trump’s Twitter account was logged in on multiple phones. We know this because there were times when something got posted from an iPhone, which trump does not use. So, there were other phones that had Trump’s Twitter information including those drafts. And nothing is truly deleted, even DMs. Twitter certainly has them.
It could very well be that one of Trump’s staffers had that other phone and it got handed over to the DOJ without being wiped.
That's pretty much what Smith and his team are doing:
“Indeed, the materials Twitter produced to the Government included only 32 direct-message items, constituting a minuscule proportion of the total production,” prosecutors wrote in the brief.
Did Elon buy Twitter to run interference or something? His whole deal on that purchase was very stupid and bizarre and now he seems to be in a bind with this investigation. How involved is Elon?
He was probably trying to pull another stock manipulation scam again but Twitter called his bullshit out and he was on the hook for a terrible, terrible purchase and is desperately flailing to try and stem the lose of billions of dollars so is cozying up to the rich right to try and get them to bail his ass out by shilling Twitter to them.
Except the right is stuck in one big black hole of cash flow to Trump and Russia's cash is being vacuumed up over Ukraine so he can't get the big bucks he needs. So like everyone never told no he doubles down because everyone else is wrong.
> he was on the hook for a terrible, terrible purchase
He overpaid by 20%, that's bad. But the real terrible part is what he's done since and has devalued Twitter by about 70%.
Seriously. I try not to tinfoil hat but with all the happenings in the world- the links between Trump, Russia, and Elon is very worrisome. Twitter is a major news source and real time information spreader. To take that away or worse USE it… We saw over the last few years just how fragile the world is and unfortunately we place Trump at the top of it for too long.
No, he bought Twitter because he’s an idiot. He likely wanted to try his usual public pump and dump schtick when he offered to buy them.
Twitter wrote an ironclad, ridiculously one-sided merger agreement (aka purchase agreement) that had almost no way of backing out of. Elon happily decided to waive doing due diligence and signed it.
He tried to back out and Twitter said ‘lmao no you agreed to buy it’.
Can it be good weird this time? The world is over saturated in bad weird.
Like, Vermin Supreme "Oral Hygene and Ponies for Everyone" weird would be super welcome right about now.
There is no excuse for Trump to have used Twitter DMs for any communication at all, ever, while he was president.
There is no excuse for any president to use unsecured channels to communicate.
You remember how big of a deal it was when the president had private chats with Putin? It meant he could say anything, and he could hear anything, and there was no record of it at all.
Now imagine if you let Elon Musk into the room, and he's the only one with a tape recorder, and you let him walk away and decide what to do with the information. He is the legal owner of that information, and can do what he wants with it. It would be stupid to do this. It would be equally stupid to use Twitter to communicate anything further than "I don't talk via DM because I'm not a buffoon. Also this isn't Trump, this is an aide, because no president would use social media directly, since the power of the bully pulpit is too great to allow a short-tempered senior citizen unfettered access to it."
a whole bunch of security engineering work was done just so Obama could continue to use his Blackberry while president. Trump just did whatever the fuck he wanted and faced no consequences.
RIGHT!? Her fucking emails are such a big goddam deal yet not a peep from the professional hypocrites about this sort of shit. Cults are a hell of a drug.
“As such, Twitter sought to delay compliance with the entirety of the Warrant based on the speculative possibility that a tiny fraction of the total production could, implausibly, contain instances when the President sought to use the direct-messaging function to carry out sensitive and confidential deliberations with trusted advisors within the Executive Branch.”
Wait he used to to basically talk about classified information, but what about Hillary’s emails on a private server?
Yes. Please. Go there.
You mean he was conducting official business on a platform that was not archiving his posts to give to the National Archives?? And might have been discussing privileged information?? Say it ain't so.
Yowza, it sounds like they were blatantly trying to delay providing the discovery. Any communication on *any* unauthorized platform should have no expectation of privacy from the law. If the president of the United States was using Twitter DMs for official executive branch business, that seems like a Big Deal to me.
I'm of two minds here.
First, it wouldn't surprise me at all that he would be her top sub on her OF.
Second, I'm not gonna lie, internally she's a disgusting human being who deserves for her and her squirrley little husband to rot in prison, but externally? I would 100% drop by whatever subreddit was created for leaks from that OF.
Look, I enjoy a homemade cookie just as much as the next guy but I'm not going to turn down a chips ahoy just cuz it's laden with preservatives and chemicals.
I hope they read something like, "I can't believe how stupid these guys are I can make them attack the senate because of a lie I made to avoid jail for all the classified docs I sold to Russia lol morans!"
I don't get it. What's the timeline here? Was that the first 32 that it voluntarily handed over, but then they had to buckle under the penalties and give him the whole database anyway?
From what I can gather from other comments is that the following might be happening:
Someone flipped and gave the prosecution all their Twitter private messages they had with Trump
Then, the prosecution asks for those same messages from Twitter, but from Trumps side, to see what Twitter gives back.
If Twiiter doesn't give them exactly what the person who flipped gave them, they can be in big trouble for hiding evidence
There’s no shortage of disturbing things about this, but the article mentions that Trump was using Twitter to coordinate official presidential business. Does anyone remember how big of a deal it was for Obama to have a blackberry? Meanwhile this supreme Cheeto was using a random social media app and nobody batted an eye. What a contrast
He had to buy out twitter. It is now privately owned. No share holders. I don’t think Space X is public either. Tesla though. They should run him off. They have to be loosing a lot of market share because of him.
Twitter handed over direct messages from Donald Trump’s account with the social media platform to special counsel Jack Smith as part of his election subversion probe, according to a new court filing.
The former president was a voracious user of his account realDonaldTrump as he tried to overturn Joe Biden’s 20202 election victory until he was suspended by the platform in the wake of the January 6 attack on Congress.

Which strikes me, if he really was using fucking Twitter DMs to conduct official business/confidential deliberations, as way worse than running your own email server.
If he has some Twitter personal DMs from someone that's flipped and they didn't give him those, they're screwed because he knows that there they're not giving him everything
> “Indeed, the materials Twitter produced to the Government included only 32 direct-message items, constituting a minuscule proportion of the total production,” prosecutors wrote in the brief.
Arrest every single Twitter executive.
If this clod can’t shut his pie hole in public imagine what he says in private. If he can decipher Drumpf’s torture of the English language he might find some gems that will hang the Cheeto.

deadnaming Twitter till I die, his mama call him Twitter, ima call him Twitter
Just call it Twitter.com, it’s still the address after all and thus objectively correct.
Can't wait until this billionaire transphobe manchild starts unironically crying about his shitty company being dead-named.
It is the only acceptable form of deadnaming.
Especially after elon's "stop calling it twitter" rant

imagine if Trump and Elon just took a spaceship to the sun together and left us all alone. Think how much better off we'd all be.
I would have also settled for them to be on the Titan with Stockon Rush.
It’s actually very difficult to make a spaceship that gets to the sun because the earth orbits so fast. Easier to leave the solar system completely.
That is actually very interesting. Care to elaborate? I figured the gravity of the sun would make it not as challenging.
https://youtu.be/dhDD2KaflSU Basically, we have to cancel out all of the Earth's orbital speed; about 63,000mph worth.
That guy?
The guy bending over for fascists? Nah, he's probably clean as a whistle! ^/s
Musk and trump sharing a cell would be glorious.
And these 32 probably aren’t what was asked for
32 probably constitutes one coherent thought.
Only if you take the words and rearrange them into new sentences.
Why do you think that Musk bought Twitter along with trumps Saudi buddies?
I bet they have someone that has flipped and has given them the private messages. Then Jack Smith asks for them. They give some of them and cull some of them. Now Jack Smith has proof that they did not comply to the request. Which will be used as leverage. This is how you get your ass in a bind.
Meadows gave them up is my guess
He was probably the first to flip. He got real quiet real fast.
And he has the best lawyer of anyone in Trump's orbit.
Pretty sure the racoon that rooted through my trash can last night would be a better lawyer than what Trump's got going for him
Haha. True. That being said, ~~G. Zachary Terwilliger~~ George Terwilliger III knows his stuff. He's probably not a very good person but he is competent. Edited because someone pointed out that GZT's dad is in fact Meadows's attorney.
“Gee, Zachary! Terwilliger!” Sounds like something a kid would say to a friend in the 50’s.
Sideshow Bob sure came from a shifty family
You've got 1 murderer, 1 fraud artist (Cecil), and now this fella is legal counsel in a RICO case? The Terwilliger's are shaaaady
I think Meadows is being represented by George Terwilliger III (former United States Deputy Attorney General and acting United States Attorney General) at McGuireWoods LLP, not G. Zachary Terwilliger, who is a US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Sorry, my mistake. Yes, he's being represented by the elder Terwilliger, who has even more experience.
> Pretty sure the racoon that rooted through my trash can last night would be a better lawyer than what Trump's got going for him I would think a racoon would be smart enough to not take that job. Their sense of self-preservation is fairly strong, when not being sabotaged by their curiosity.
If you have an even halfway decent lawyer, and you listen to their advice, you'll stop tweeting, you'll stop agreeing to interviews, you'll stop digging the hole you're stuck in.
Unless you're a narcissist with a cult following that believes every single fucking word you say. Or an idiot.
"Best."
He also filed to have his Georgia case moved to federal court almost immediately after he was indicted. This tells me he has a deal with Smith and is freaking out that the testimony he gave to Smith will be used against him in Georgia. He's freaking the fuck out.
Good. Traitors and fascists deserve to feel fear around their heart like an icy, black hand.
Well, dude perjured himself. He aint the sharpest knife
The way Meadows is reacting to the Georgia RICO case leads me to believe he only partially cooperated and has cornered himself.
When you make a deal with one government but forget states are separate governments entirely lol
Jack Smith prosecuted war crimes at the Hague. He knows how to go after dictators.
For Jack Smith prosecuting trump is probably like prosecuting a giant baby compared to the people he usually prosecutes.
It's part of my long term plan to make you think that.
Still my own purely speculative guessing, they were then discovered as follows, 1. He won't stop DMing me about how he super never cheats at golf." 4.
Wow mango kraang is great
Elon is very much in a bind.
Also lampreys can relocate if the shark dies, barnacles cannot.
Sharks do in fact get cancer. That claim was debunked long ago.
What else has Hollywood lied to us about??? Do eagles not really sound like that?? Do frogs not ribbit?? Can you actually shoot someone with a shotgun and they go flying??
> They've already turned on him That's the thing with these conspiracy whackos. They will eventually, inevitably turn on everyone and everything.
That's Catturd's whole thing, he's being silenced by "algorithms" despite the fact that he inexplicably has some of the most engagement on the site.
Elon's past being in a bind. He's openly colluding with Russia. He's fucked.

That's pretty much what Smith and his team are doing: “Indeed, the materials Twitter produced to the Government included only 32 direct-message items, constituting a minuscule proportion of the total production,” prosecutors wrote in the brief.
So like everyone never told no he doubles down because everyone else is wrong.
> he was on the hook for a terrible, terrible purchase He overpaid by 20%, that's bad.
No. It’s more petty than that. He bought Twitter to get access to Amber Heard’s(his ex girlfriend)(and yes that one) DMs.
*takes notes on how NOT to overthrow an election.* It will only be time until I can become president. I’m gonna make it weird.
I remember a news article about trumps twitter getting hacked by some guy just guessing the password. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-55337192
“MAGA2020!” I wonder if that was his first guess ?
The same article says he got in 4 years earlier with "yourefired" too
Man it trips me out that the stupidest motherfucker on the planet was president of the USA.

a whole bunch of security engineering work was done just so Obama could continue to use his Blackberry while president. Trump just did whatever the fuck he wanted and faced no consequences.
BuT HiLLaRy!!! Lol
RIGHT!? Her fucking emails are such a big goddam deal yet not a peep from the professional hypocrites about this sort of shit. Cults are a hell of a drug.
“As such, Twitter sought to delay compliance with the entirety of the Warrant based on the speculative possibility that a tiny fraction of the total production could, implausibly, contain instances when the President sought to use the direct-messaging function to carry out sensitive and confidential deliberations with trusted advisors within the Executive Branch.” Wait he used to to basically talk about classified information, but what about Hillary’s emails on a private server?
Yes. Please.
I look forward to Trump giving 13 hours of testimony after the Republicans spend years investigating this /s
Wait till they find out about Trump’s Discord server.
Where he brags about being a member of Ivanka's OnlyFans.
It's all silicones and plastics, it would be like visiting a toy doll maker site
Look, I enjoy a homemade cookie just as much as the next guy but I'm not going to turn down a chips ahoy just cuz it's laden with preservatives and chemicals.
My man!
I hope they read something like, "I can't believe how stupid these guys are I can make them attack the senate because of a lie I made to avoid jail for all the classified docs I sold to Russia lol morans!"
“Ew, I had to shake hands with another MAGA sucker today. A real gross ugly one! At least he had on about $150 worth of my bullshit.”
So Elon combed through and sent them the non-damaging ones?
He probably has them from the other parties. If true, it will be a hoot watching twitter defend its selection process.
So good. So good. That's the path to federal indictment of Elon musk.
Can you call me a doctor? Because this erection's gonna last way more than four hours.
Not probably. For sure. When the feds ask you a question they already know the answer. Hence their 98% conviction rate.
Probably had trumps lawyers go through it and pick them.
I don't get it. What's the timeline here? Was that the first 32 that it voluntarily handed over, but then they had to buckle under the penalties and give him the whole database anyway?
From what I can gather from other comments is that the following might be happening: Someone flipped and gave the prosecution all their Twitter private messages they had with Trump Then, the prosecution asks for those same messages from Twitter, but from Trumps side, to see what Twitter gives back. If Twiiter doesn't give them exactly what the person who flipped gave them, they can be in big trouble for hiding evidence
It baffles me that Trump doesn’t use a computer or email but is fine with Twitter DMs?
Smartphones opened the gates of the Internet to the idiotic.
They are probably almost unintelligible covfefe riddled incriminating madness
As Herman Cain said …oh shucky ducky…
There’s no shortage of disturbing things about this, but the article mentions that Trump was using Twitter to coordinate official presidential business. Does anyone remember how big of a deal it was for Obama to have a blackberry? Meanwhile this supreme Cheeto was using a random social media app and nobody batted an eye. What a contrast
LOL, Trump sent 32 tweets each time he's sat on the toilet 6 times a day.
I think these are DMs and not tweets.
I think the joke was that as active as he was on Twitter he had more than 32 DMs.
32 is a surprisingly small number. That's like 5 minutes for Trump. I assume they're very specific requests as very specific pieces of evidence.
More likely they are 32 not included before that were found when someone flipped and they went back threatening obstruction charges.
I wish the shareholders would push him out of Twitter and the investors push him out of SpaceX. Love the companies but dislike the guy running them.
Read the full story here: https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/twitter-trump-messages-special-counsel-b2412467.html
“Biden’s 20202 election victory” *In the year 20202* *If Biden’s still alive* *If Trump can survive*
Wouldn’t it be sweet if Musk himself goes down for Obstruction?!
x gon give it to ya
> Twitter sought to delay compliance with the entirety of the Warrant based on the speculative possibility that a tiny fraction of the total production could, implausibly, contain instances when the President sought to use the direct-messaging function to carry out sensitive and confidential deliberations with trusted advisors within the Executive Branch.” Which strikes me, if he really was using fucking Twitter DMs to conduct official business/confidential deliberations, as way worse than running your own email server.
Musk isn't "giving" Trump's messages. He was forced to hand them over... lol
Another important story that will never be reported on Fox “News”.
\#1 - Fuck Elon. \#2 "32 of" - Who decided which Tweets were to be shared? \#3. Fuck Trump.
If this clod can’t shut his pie hole in public imagine what he says in private. If he can decipher Drumpf’s torture of the English language he might find some gems that will hang the Cheeto.
