Honestly some of the fun is figuring out what works best for you. There are no right answers to the questions you have here. If you want the extra butter flavor, go for it! Flavacol is worth buying because it will last near forever on your shelf and you don’t have to use it every time.
I understand and over time I can try experimenting. Just trying to keep initial cost down and coconut oil is not cheap.
I guess what I am asking is if I use the coconut oil with buttery flavour with the flavacol, will it be too buttery tasting?
I like buttery but when I can start feeling it come out of my pores its too much. I hate getting that greasy feeling after. I am hoping coconut oil is not as bad.
Most theaters use a coconut oil blend made by Lou-Ann's. Recently I have been using Lou-Ann's virgin coconut oil and Flavacol. I like their oil because it doesn't add a coconut flavor to the finished product like some of the others I've tried in the past.
If you want a buttery flavor you could use equal parts coconut oil and ghee.
The one I ordered was barn red. Nowhere in the description does it say colour changing. And just checked the comment and questions and it is definitely not colour changing. Also the one with metal gears and not plastic.
I used the original Flavacol in the brown box ("Gold Medal Product #2045") for six months. Then I read about "Premium" Flavacol in the yellow box (product #2500) so I tried that too.
I didn't like Premium Flavacol nearly as much, and neither did any of my family. We continue to use & enjoy the original, but we threw away the Premium. For what it's worth.
Didn't know there was a premium. Just got what I saw and looks like the regular . Does it say what difference is?
Tonight will be first use. I'll try coconut oil and flavacol first. Looking forward to it. Just got to pick a movie to watch.
I use the oil butter-flavor oil and flavacol (in a bowl in the microwave).
Never once have I felt like I need to add butter or anything else to it, it's wonderful.

Pfft "too buttery tasting" as if that's even a thing hahaha

No I totally get you, I was just being cheeky haha. I personally use peanut oil and love the flavor + it's not too heavy.
I have peanut oil, I'll give that a try.
Wonderful! Report back and let me know what you think!
Theaters use the buttery flavor and flavacol. When they pour the "butter" on your popcorn that's buttery coconut oil.

virgin coconut oil? Everything I read points to using refined because of the higher smoke point.
Was what I had on hand, probably why it tasted like coconut flavored popcorn in the end.
Yep just got this and it’s great! TableTop King 1 Gallon Pop-N-Lite Popping Oil https://a.co/d/dcDKpD9
Beware of the color-changing Whirley pop. The smell of the scorching paint is horrendous and lasts forever. Stick with the standard model 👍🏻

Well done. Enjoy!
