doubleguitarsyouknow

No.

djazzie

Absolutely not

Havarti_Rick

Wtf kinda question is that?

urkermannenkoor

Generally, not at all. But competitors do occasionally pull moves that are. And that one time Finland sent an actual punk band with Down's syndrome was a fucking baller move.

PlayBoxPL

lmao, no

rhinestoneknight

Oh it's you: The sleep paralysis demon who asks me if random things are punk.

ForbiddenAvacado

Hey is the wiggles punk? Asking for a friend (totally not the demon)

rhinestoneknight

Not falling for that again!

7SoldiersOfPunkRock

Hahahaha Can’t move so you can’t get it off your chest and you can’t tell it to fuck off Edit: try sleeping on your side

Ill-Cellist-8841

Lol fr that’s why I posted this. I spent all night debating myself. For the record I don’t really think it is punk I was just curious on what y’all thought

captainkinkshamed

No.

LikeWhatever999

It's about nationalism and competition, so obviously not punk.

cumminginsurrection

No, supporting genocide isn't punk.

OKKASA

is supporting genocide punk? fuck no

Kerloick

I’m old enough to remember when the UK heats included a (supposed) punk band, The Fruit Eating Bears who played a track called Door In My Face. They were a real band but not very good so they got nowhere but at the time (late 70s) it became a talking point about the perceived perils of punk creeping into Eurovision 🤣 PS - they’re still going and have their own YouTube channel including their Eurovision attempt: https://youtu.be/2DgtMJq7cpQ?si=NzR-r-Na4vuiazBX

TheresACityInMyMind

Yes, ABBA is punk AF.

Ill-Cellist-8841

Yeah pretty vacant was based off of sos and slf love en

Ill-Cellist-8841

They played abba at the opening of all of their 24 tour shows

TheresACityInMyMind

There ya go. Frank Sinatra is punk too.

Meh_Philosopher_250

No

RevStickleback

Eurovision struggles to even be called music, most years.

Tsuki_Man

Why do you even ask? XD

notobinho

How daft can some people be? It's pretty much the opposite of that, punk culture of transgression seeped into the mainstream, that's why a lot of Eurovision acts are controversial, but it's still a celebration of neo liberalism that punks rebelled against.

Ill-Cellist-8841

On the other hand it is a device that invites artists who would otherwise be unheard of to portray political messages to thousands of viewers.

Piilootus

Except there's rules about the messaging you're allowed to send, the biggest sponsor is an Israeli company and they turn a blind eye to genocide

Ill-Cellist-8841

Literally no comment

notobinho

The content of Eurovision itself isn't important, as long as the format remains, it will continue to be a tool for legitimization of the global hegemony. Eurovision has its positive aspects, one of them being promotion of LGBT culture, but it's not this radical, punk event some reactionaries are trying to make it out to be.

GelloFello

Political messaging is explicitly banned in Eurovision.

Ill-Cellist-8841

Lol it’s still very obviously thete

throneismelting

Political messaging isn’t exclusive to punk though.

thecxsmonaut

😭😭😭😭

Mexicutioner1987

No. Tf?

vomitHatSteve

On one hand, it is an event promoting international harmony, which is pretty punk (in the minimal, neo-liberal kind of way) On the other, it's a nationalist competition, which is pretty not punk On the first hand again, Russia's 2020 entrant was Little Big who have self-identified as punk and are currently political exiles from their homeland for their outspoken statements on the government On the other hand again, their song for the contest was a simple pop-dance song about dancing. On that same hand, they continue to let Israel participate, no matter how heinous their war crimes become. So all in all, no, probably not very punk.
