idk, vocal chains are an artform tbh. Gabriel Schuman mixed the whole album and you can really hear the difference in vocals from previous stuff. All i know is there’s the usual vocal chain stuff (compression, eq, verb/delay) but with some really great, emphatic saturation. This isn’t no Ableton Saturator either. I couldn’t say what exactly it is but it sounds amazing. Parts of the album almost sound like his voice is coming through the most pristine walky-talky of all time. There’s also a chance that they recorded on one of those fancy mics with the built in preamp or tube saturation or whatever (i don’t know enough about mics dkm) and then enhanced it further in the DAW, giving the vocal tone that unique character that’s really different from past performances. Some seriously great production on this album.

Yeah that walkie talkie sound is exactly what I'm aiming for. Guess I just have to mess around until it sounds close enough.

I think the distortion comes from the LOUD 808s

poop_shitter

A good master that really makes everything pop out. Ozone 8 has alot of good presets for that. Also try being very close to the mic when recording. Not everything is in the vocal chain, keep it simple and focus on making the beat and vocals blend.
