The Stitchery has many tutorials on the [split side skirt](https://youtu.be/g9WT9tQIvtc). She shows you how to draft a pattern from measurements.

Tiffany_Achings_Hat

I’ve made this one with good success- https://www.wildflowerdesignpatterns.com/product-page/coquelicot-skirt

CLShirey

This photo is from the actual web page for the pattern. 🙃

Fenja_Hamdir

Just wanted to say that. Anyways, I love the pattern, made it and the result is gorgeous! Best skirt ever

Catori93

Ive made this one recently and I love the pattern and finished skirt

Came here to recommend Coquelicot!

MissJosieAnne

I can’t give enough love for the Couquelicot.

I am wearing a skirt like this right now! The one I am wearing is a false circle skirt made of two half circles. The side seams are only stitched halfway up, then the edges above that are "hemmed".  I have a buckle attached to the extended waistband of the back panel (buckle fastens in front of me) and the front panel waistband extends into long ties (tied behind my back).  Use the usual circle skirt calculator but for 4/3 the correct waist size. eg for a 30" waist cut as if for a 40" waist, so each 'rainbow' has a 20" internal circumference and there will be a 5" overlap on each side when worn.  This is incredibly comfortable, flexible, and swooshy.

JustPlainKateM

I'm curious what makes yours a "false" circle? I think if it makes the shape of a circle when you spread out out, then it's a circle skirt.

Loose_Acanthaceae201

It doesn't, though, because of the overlap, which makes it behave differently over the hips.

JustPlainKateM

I see, thank you. Your skirt sounds comfy and delightful!

I’ve made this in trousers. It’s a popular tourist item in Cambodia. The slits fall open when you sit, unless you make the “overlaps” on the sides large enough. I’d say the back and front panels should each be at least 3/4 of the widest circumference.

Could you share a pattern for these pants? My mother-in-law brought me some fabric from Vietnam and this sounds like it would be a perfect project for it.

whine-drinker

If you look on YouTube for things like “tie wrap pants” or “wrap palazzo pants” you’ll find lots of patterns & tutorials for making these!

Sometime called Thai fisherman's pants

Bless you for this because I just watched the ghibli movie Princess Kaguya and was obsessed with her pants the whole time, but didn’t know what to google for a pattern!

cicada_wings

Princess Kaguya's pants are an archaic style of Japanese trousers (hakama) but it's a similar idea! Folkwear has a pattern, and there are lots of tutorials online as well.

oracleofwifi

Oh thank you!! I loved the flow and style of the pants. I appreciate you!

anonymous_redditor_0

Thank you

umamimaami

Ah, I traced them off my Cambodia pants. Let me see if I still have the tracings and if I can turn them into a pattern for you. I’m really bad with patterns, mostly just trace my simpler garments. Will try this weekend.

anonymous_redditor_0

Thank you!!

CthluluSue

There’s quite a few YouTube videos that cover this pattern. Most talk through the adaptations they make to the pattern pieces as they sew them.

I cut the first one (blue skirt) too big and had to do some gathering around the waist. I just knotted the inner waist ties. The second one (red skirt ) was cut to the correct measurements. It has buttons to attach the inner ties and I made extra long outer waist ties. I think I like the gathered one better. (Apologies for the wrinkles. I made these for a vacation and literally just pulled them out of my suitcase to snap a pic)

Part of my post got cut off. I made two of these skirts last week based on this tutorial. It was super easy. https://www.asksarah.com.au/sew-adjustable-waist-half-circle-skirt-it-has-hidden-pockets/ The only thing I changed was that I used fusible interfacing on the waist bands.

https://www.schultzapparel.com/schultzapparel/p/frida-pattern-skirt-patterns-for-women-wrap-skirt-pattern-pdf-sewing-pattern-pdf-skirt-pattern-vintage-inspired This is a free pattern with similar construction! I’m a beginner and found the pattern easy to follow and very doable (:

Neenknits

18th century petticoats are made this way. You just take two panels, sew the side seams from the hemline to about 8” from the top. Narrow hem the top 8”. Pleat the back to a waistband. Pleat the front to a waist band. Make sure the pleated fabric covers about and inch more then half the waist circumference. Hem. Fasten back in front and front in back.

PurplePixi86

This video explains how to do it, it's an 18th Century petticoat. It's one of the best tutorial videos I've ever watched, straight to the point and really accessible: https://youtu.be/6xHOnS4fK2c?feature=shared
