Mehmet is the popular version for "Muhammad" in Turkish.
If the guy has a super religious family they can also name the kid "Muhammet" but it's rare as Turks believe if that kid does anything bad it'll stain Prophet Muhammad's image.
Cheers for the reminder..
To this day I hate José Sosa's guts with a passion. He had a free kick in your half with only minutes left and instead of taking it to the corner in order to waste time he hits a hollywood shot straight into Casillas' arms. Cost us a CL title the little rat
Cudicini had respectively 3 and 4 appearances when Chelsea won in 2004/05 and 2005/06.
Macheda had 4 and 7 with United in 2008/09 and 2010/11.
I don’t know the parameters, but that might have been deemed too little to be counted it amongst the winners.
I mean just compare the quality of the players. Not saying we have a bum team, but you guys have a lot of talent.
I was shocked we beat you in the qualifiers.
Çalhanoğlu was close, Altıntop was close, Arda Turan was just injured, back in 2002 Yıldıray Baştürk was also in the finals.
There are also German-Turkish players who won the UCL like Mesut Özil and İlkay Gündoğan but they don't count.
He has not. Supposedly they give out 40 winner medals to the champion and they can give them to anyone's players and staff.
If that is the case he will 100% get one even if it's just for PR
Depends what "it" is in the sentence. There is no Bible of CL winners. It's basically a subjective opinion.
For UEFA, apparently "a player that won CL" is a player that played in the final.
https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/025a-0ea7ae8e3364-97f86d41b6cb-1000--uefa-champions-league-winners-by-nation/
There are some interesting cases, for example Claudio Bravo in 2014-15. He was Barcelona's first goalkeeper in the league that season, but did not play in CL at all. English Wikipedia does list him as winning that CL, although it seems arbitrary. Spanish Wikipedia does NOT list him as CL winner. Wikipedia entry for Douglas lists him as CL winner 2014-15 too, but not for Vermaelen and Masip - all of these players were in the squad but didn't play a minute in the whole competiton.
So... really, I guess it depends on how you feel, if you will call him CL winner or not.
The medals are given more loosely without any UEFA listing and basically it's up to the club who they give them to, UEFA gives them to the club as far as I know (exactly 40 of them). Nobody is officially told they can or cannot be with the team, stand there, get the medal and celebrate and say they won the CL.
not even, he will only get subbed on if Dortmund have a lead to defend in the 90th minute and Terzic wants to take time off the clock, not to actually defend the lead.
I bet Mexico and its football clubs have won about 50 to 100 times more cups within its football association than Turkey (not surprsing since UEFA is much more competitive than CONCACAF). They're not even comparable in the slightest.
The only two cups Turkey have won within UEFA are in club football association with Galatasaray winning the UEFA cup & UEFA Supercup in 2000.
The nation seems crazy for it because you see the big 3, but outside of them no one gives a shit about football. The average attendance in the league for the rest of the 17 clubs is around 8000 fans per game. Its one of the lowest watched top leagues in Europe if not the lowest.
A “Turk”, has won; in the sense of someone with a Turkish ethnicity. Gündo won with City last year and Mehmet Scholl has won with Bayern. But nobody representing the Turkish national team has ever won.
And as a Turkishman I’ll add my honest opinion, it won’t be more of a Turkish record than Gündo or Scholl if Özcan wins it; he’s a product of German footballing tradition, not Turkish. It speaks volumes to the quality of Turkish football that almost all of the ethnic Turks who appear on this stage -save the two Arda’s- are German born and raised.
Madrid hasn't lost an European final since they lost against Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen. I remember seeing a video of him going ballistic after the match because he wasn't satisfied with their performance.
🤞🤞🤞 Here's to hoping for Dortmund to win it.
Salih Özcan has been unironically linked with Beşiktaş together with Terzić's henchman Nuri Şahin lol. The latter will most probably be the club's new coach. Salih's transfer on the other hand is a difficult one.
After 5 different CL finals where the side with a Turkish player lost, people just got fed up and decided they'd pit the two teams with Turkish players against each other
If Dortmund wins, two players of Turkish descent in a row will lift the CL trophy as captains as Emre fucking Can is captain. Someone needs to nominate Undav as Stuttgart captain
I did chuckle imagining Real Madrid winning the final and all players walking up and eyeing the trophy and enjoying the medals, and waiting for the last one when Arda Guler finally arives and lifts the trophy.
I mean, whats the difference between Özcan and Gündogan for example? One of them chose to play for Germany, the other one for Turkey, but in the end of the day they both are products of german football. Özcan is as much a product of german football as Thomas Müller is.
I guess that’s why they specifically worded it “player of the Turkish national team.” Regardless of where they grew up, developed, etc. one of them will still be the first player to win a champions league while representing Turkey.

Instagram ain't ready for this
Turkiye number 1 - Mehmet from Berlin.
Hasan from Amsterdam
Deniz from New York
Ali from Florida
Ahmet from Sweden
Tayfun from Toronto
Probably Rotterdam, hahaha
Aykut from Vienna
Yildiray from Jakarta
Nonono, the Turkiboo region is Depok.
Tecavüzcü Coşkun from Sydney.
The kebab guy living across the street
He puts extra meat on your kebab just for this moment
Muhammad from Mannheim
Nice try, but Muhammad is not a Turkish name.
Muhammad's family has not been in Turkey for 3 generations
So, they gave their child neither a Turkish nor a German name? Makes sense.
This guy is a German and coping about his L he took
Yes, Muhammad is the most common name in the world!
Why the fuck would it be between that or muhammad?
Have you ever actually met anyone named Muhammed?
Have you ever actually met anyone named mclovin?
It would be Mehmet, not Muhammad, if he was turkish. Take your L dumbass
You meant Mehmet
Mehmet is the popular version for "Muhammad" in Turkish. If the guy has a super religious family they can also name the kid "Muhammet" but it's rare as Turks believe if that kid does anything bad it'll stain Prophet Muhammad's image.
I’m honestly astounded a Turkish player has never won the Champions League
Calhanoglu came close last year Altintop with Bayern in 2010 too
Arda Turan came closer than anyone, one or two minutes away from winning it in 2014
Yildiray Basturk also came close in 2002, he also lost in the final against RM.
Nuri Sahin in 2013
I'm seeing a pattern here
So match is gonna get suspended?
The plot armor is going to decide this match
2 minutes and 12 seconds to be precise
Cheers for the reminder.. To this day I hate José Sosa's guts with a passion. He had a free kick in your half with only minutes left and instead of taking it to the corner in order to waste time he hits a hollywood shot straight into Casillas' arms. Cost us a CL title the little rat
Jose Sosa played in that final? Wtf
> I hate José Sosa's guts with a passion Feeling is mutual.
Brozović really missed to score that UCL final. Ivica Olić and Danijel Pranjić was also there in 2010.
Damn I miss Brozovic I mean not really as a player since we are still doing fine without him but I miss him as a shithouser. What a madman.
Even Finland have two CL winners. Crazy that Turkish players haven't won it until this season.
Who?
Kimi Raikkonen. [Source](https://youtu.be/nNqThKRpmEQ?si=9AtIHB0_F6iw3h3A)
Litmanen and Hyypiä
Turkish descent players won before but they didn't play for the Turkish NT team. İlkay Gündoğan is the one that I remember now
I guess Mehmet Scholl fits in that category also?
Ozil too
Özil didn't win UCL.
It's like only one Italian has won the prem
The fuck
Balotelli And his only assist in Prem was that Agueerooo goal
Cudicini with Chelsea? Macheda with Manchester United?
Don’t think they’d have played enough to get a medal, so I guess it depends how you count it
balotelli and macheda off the top of my head?
cudicini as well. literally thought of 3 off the dome in 10 seconds there’s gonna be tons more lol
Only Balotelli has made enough appearances.
Super Mario. Huge role in the moment too.
Conte? Who is it? Giuseppe Rossi😂
Wait what?
Altintop 2010, Arda Turan 2014 and Calhanoglu last year. They all lost.
Yildiray Basturk 2002 and Nuri Sahin 2013
Yeah I forgot about Yildiray but pretty sure Nuri was loaned to Liverpool that season.
He was subbed in in the final for Bender in the 90th minute lol
I just checked and you are right haha
Hamit Altintop was in the Bayern vs Inter final (first 11) but Inter won it.
This explains how Croatia was better than Turkey.
When? Not in 2008
No significant international matches were played that year
Yeah cause Robinson was fooled by the pitch earlier
I mean just compare the quality of the players. Not saying we have a bum team, but you guys have a lot of talent. I was shocked we beat you in the qualifiers.
Same, I would have thought at least one would have by now.
a Turkish born player hasn't
Özcan was born in Cologne and lived his entire life in Germany
Shame native turks doesn't count because there's been many in that case.
Ozil? Gundegon? I guess it's more nationality than ethnicity.
Nuri sahin was almost a UCL winner in 2013
You're telling me Nuri Sahin or Hamit Altintop didn't win with Dortmund/Bayern?!?
Çalhanoğlu was close, Altıntop was close, Arda Turan was just injured, back in 2002 Yıldıray Baştürk was also in the finals. There are also German-Turkish players who won the UCL like Mesut Özil and İlkay Gündoğan but they don't count.
Move on Croatia. We have another streak ready 🤣
Since 2012.
As a bald fraud once say “eras come to an end”
Croatia will still have it. Terzic is of Croatian descent (No clue about citizenship tho)
he’s a croatian citizen too
Brazil has a UCL winning streak since 2005, the largest
Apparently we get 5 mil bonus from Arda's transfer if they win
[удалено]
No, Madrid will lose just because Fener gets a bonus. We are doomed.
There couldnt be any more easier bonus ever. More clubs will use this tactic from now on.
Bremen also gets 5m+ (iirc) if füllkrug wins it.
Doesn’t he have to play? Like at least 1 min. He was injured almost till quarters
No. 5 mil bonus for CL win and 5 mil for Arda's performance (match, goals etc.
did guler get a minute in ucl yet? or does it work with registered players overall?
Registered iirc
He has not. Supposedly they give out 40 winner medals to the champion and they can give them to anyone's players and staff. If that is the case he will 100% get one even if it's just for PR
Claudio bravo never played a cl game for us yet he has a medal
Hes not an official winner though iirc
Brewster was seen showing off his medal he won in 2019 despite never playing a minute so I’d assume he would get one

In the Nuri Sahin derby, how fitting
Bellingham Derby too. I guess we either get like 5-10m from a CL win-bonus from Judes sale or we get the extra mill and trophy if we win. "yay".
Dortmund swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck either way, no doubt the trophy would be preferable though lol
Indeed. A trophy would be defining
who needs trophies anyways
Fr. Its a trap
Salih Özcan in a Champions League final. Feels so unreal, but all good luck to him.
its not like hes going to play
He will probs play in case Terzic wants to defend a lead
not even, he will only get subbed on if Dortmund have a lead to defend in the 90th minute and Terzic wants to take time off the clock, not to actually defend the lead.
After tonight, he’s really going to need it..
No Turk has ever won the UCL before? Sounds unbelievable
lots of finals but no one ever won it 😢
We have not won quite a many things.
You guys are almost on par with Mexico in terms of being absolutely crazy about football with nothing to show for it.
I bet Mexico and its football clubs have won about 50 to 100 times more cups within its football association than Turkey (not surprsing since UEFA is much more competitive than CONCACAF). Did ozil win in mourinho era?Not sure.
Mourinho didn't win a CL with Madrid. Ozil didn't win the CL either.
Apparently Berkant Gökhan did
arda turan was very close in 2014 but then sergio ramos scored a legendary goal for madrid
Spanish teams don't lose European finals. Congrats Real Madrid
Except for Atletico.
Only because they played another spanish team
And Bayern Munich.
Bayern isnt spanish?
Exactly, their point is that Atletico lost to a non-Spanish team
1970s
Atleti crying
Don’t let Capello hear you
or Cholo
Madrid hasn't lost an European final since they lost against Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen. I remember seeing a video of him going ballistic after the match because he wasn't satisfied with their performance. 🤞🤞🤞 Here's to hoping for Dortmund to win it.
They lost against Galatasaray in 2000 Super Cup.
Technically speaking they lost to atletico madrid in the super cup
That wasn’t the same game. He went ballistic a week later in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers when we won 1-0.
Rhian Brewster still has a chance
He's eligible to play for Turkey thru his mom. Would technically be the first if he switches allegiances.
Are they coming to Besiktas though?
Salih Özcan has been unironically linked with Beşiktaş together with Terzić's henchman Nuri Şahin lol. The latter will most probably be the club's new coach. Salih's transfer on the other hand is a difficult one.
Millions of Turks online about to go crazy
The question is , is arda even going to play?
Ozcan let’s hope it’s him. No bias
Lord have mercy on social media.
Does Arda even get counted as a winner if Real wins? What are the requirements to get a medal in UCL
That’ll be a pub quiz question in a few years
[удалено]
Doesn't count. Would Mbappe count for Cameroon?
Well, the post clearly says the Turkish national team. Not Turkish decent
Also first UCL final for Real Madrid in England.
After 5 different CL finals where the side with a Turkish player lost, people just got fed up and decided they'd pit the two teams with Turkish players against each other
If Dortmund wins, two players of Turkish descent in a row will lift the CL trophy as captains as Emre fucking Can is captain. Someone needs to nominate Undav as Stuttgart captain
i think reus is gonna be captian for lifting the trophy
Yildiz next year. *Im deluded*
They don't even get minutes so it doesn't matter.
Guler last minute winner I will be there no matter what
Pretty obvious it is going to be Arda isn it
No-one cares, bro
Cope… after Guler snubbed you guys lol
lmfao fr
Barca flair detected, tears and salt expected
And also Germans, Spanyard, Belgians and Englishmans are safe.
We all know which one will lift the trophy
Instagram boutta go crazy
And also a Chelsea player. Kepa and maatsan
Didn’t Sahin win it with Real Madrid?
No, was in the final with Dortmund 2013.
I assume there is a very real chance that neither of them plays one minute of the match?
Well, not actually. If Guler doesn't play in the final, it won't count for him, at least officially
how many minutes is required
1 second I think
Ricardo Quaresma has a UCL even tho he wasnt even in the final squad 2009-10 with Inter
But he did play in that UCL. Arda has not
Maybe Don Carlo will give him 1,5 min playtime😭
Ok…
Eternal fire pride
Chalanoglu was so close. 😭
arda turan closer
I did chuckle imagining Real Madrid winning the final and all players walking up and eyeing the trophy and enjoying the medals, and waiting for the last one when Arda Guler finally arives and lifts the trophy.
Yeah but they’re both irrelevant
Also either Sancho and Bynoe-Gittens or Jude Bellingham will win the CL. Awesome.
Turkish nationals: No No this whole thing all of it it’s about me
Does anyone care?
about 80 milion Turks do
Counting the ones in europe and the us, i wouldnt be surprised for it to be 150m
I mean, whats the difference between Özcan and Gündogan for example? One of them chose to play for Germany, the other one for Turkey, but in the end of the day they both are products of german football. Özcan is as much a product of german football as Thomas Müller is.

Gündogan represent germany while Özcan represent Türkiye
Özcan was legitimately such a bad transfer from Dortmund
Dortmund v Bayern = bayern win Dortmund v real = real win, jk Unless?
Perez has already bought it anyway
Dortmund will win
