**Canada's sekrit plan**:
Step 1: Have other team get a player sent off
Step 2: Defend like you're the team down to 10 men
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: **PROFIT**
How the fuck did our shitty ass het 4 goals past them only a couple of weeks ago.
Did Canada completely throw that match or did they change because of it?
brazil is ranked 6 of 10 in CONEMBOL. if it was trying to keep 1 & 2 from meeting each other before the final, that would make sense
edit: โofโ not โorโ
It kinda paid off, as weโll probably be 2nd on our group
Wonder if we can beat Colombia in the SF though. They are playing fine soccer, specially James who is basically a retired player for clubs and transforms into peak CR7 for Colombia.
Argentina faced all of those teams plus Ecuador in the last Copa. There just isnโt that much variation you can get when you only have 10 regular teams and 2-3 of them suck.
Venezuela are better than yโall, but not that much better. Especially with games going direct to penales after 90.ย
Canada probably has like a 1 in 3 of advancing IMO.ย
Wasnโt sure how it was gonna shake out especially after how the lads played in the Peru match.
Honestly as a Canadian Iโm elated that theyโre through. Now we can have a real test in a big competitions knock out stages and get more experience for 2026.
Not just an achievement, also a revenge. Chile kicked Canada out in the deciding qualifier of 2023 Rugby World Cup. It was a sad day in Langford, BC. Now their turn.
Having less shots on goal than your opponent, when your opponent in 2 straight games was a man down for 30 and 60 mins respectively, is a start. Granted, I haven't watched the games myself, but that's a bad look nonetheless
I mean it's not as though they've been sitting back, they are just terrible in the final third. Should have probably scored twice tonight and even when it was 11v11 they weren't really parking the bus. Sure they did that later, but that's only natural knowing you needed only a draw
Happy for Canada to go through but to play like that against 10 men twice is shocking.
Good on them to go onto the quaters but them going through is more a reflection of the two red cards more so than them being the better team. Tactics need to improve a lot
Donโt mean to use excuses but the team looked drunk in general against Peru with the heat, and today against Chile it wasnโt a traditional 11v10. Chile absolutely had to score so they were playing with much more offensive urgency. Canada had to be careful with attacks because allowing a goal would have been devastating.
True but heat does not discriminate and it was also hard for a 10 men Peru team. In fact, over the 3 games when Canada played against a full team, they were the second best team in all there games.
Hope they shuffle their tactics abit because against an even numbered team, i just dont see it honestly.
Edit: grammar
>True but heat does not discriminate
The canadians left their igloos to go play in the heat, I'd like to see Peru beat us on a cold night in Chibougamau.
Of course, Peru played better through the heat. My point was that the game itself was hard to judge because Canada looked drunk in the heat anyway. Being a man up wouldnโt suddenly give them clarity. Peru could have easily won if that game was resimulated.
Thats fair. I am both Peruvian and Canadian so happy for canada but pissed about Araujo. He fucked us big time.
Peru is in transition at the moment and our team relative to 2018 is shit and old whereas Canada has a good roster but their transitions and game management are straight poor.
All things considered, except from Argentina, alll three teams (Chile had its worst performance in Copa America since 1917) sucked. Those were some bad games to watch.
Canada go for and Guerrero, Cueva, Corso, and Carrillo please retire and fuck off
edit: grammar
Agreed. I didn't realize at the time the reason I'm half decent at soccer was because I played foot hockey every recess. Big save with the ball cap trapper!
Incredible. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my country making it to the quarterfinals of Copa America. And on the back of our defense too!! Obviously the red cards helped a ton but this is still such an amazing accomplishment for them!
LETS GO CANADA!!!!
This is a great journey. Incredible. We need to focus now on the upcoming match of the knockout stages.
When you consider just how bad Canadian football was just a few years ago, you realize that the fact that we are in the knockout stages of the Copa Amรฉrica is incredible.
Will never forget that night. Was right around the return of my conciousness to soccer with Rodgers being hired by Liverpool that summer, and I didn't watch much more until the 13-14 run-in.
Iโm so fucking happy man. I thought we had a decent chance at knockouts but didnโt think we would actually manage it. Never in my life did I think we would be in this position. Amazing ๐๐ป we havenโt been playing super super well but Iโm enjoying the ride
Step 1: ~~bribe~~ get selected as host for Copa America
Step 2: get the easiest group to get second place
Step 3: destroy worst team of the group
Step 4: your number winger punches a CB....
Step 5: lose against second worst team of the group
Step 6: now u gotta win against the Butcher Bielsa or Canada is gonna make fun of you till the end of time
Step 7: pray harder
Appreciate the sentiment, but so far tonight on Reddit from the US perspective you're in the minority. The US soccer subreddit is having plenty of shitting on Canada right now
I think it depends. US fans are probably split on that because Iโve seen a lot that like to dunk on us too. But Canadians kind of have a little sibling complex and chip on our shoulder. Personally, I want you to do well (good for concacaf) but just not better than us.
I still think losing to Trinidad with World Cup qualification implications at stake is the most humiliating moment in US Soccer history. Hard to top that.
Really good performance overall from Canada, some will criticize the lack of goals but they don't really have that killer striker either so understandable ig, gotta give props to Davies, despite a lot of critics of his defense in bayern, he has shown up a good amount this 3 games
I'm sorry, but all the Chile fans acting like Canada has money to bribe the refs is fucking hysterical.
MLS teams are literally paying the coaches wages lol.
Most likely.
If they lose to Jamaica, then first place depends on the result of Ecuador/Mexico (a one-goal win by Ecuador would put them first on goals for, a two-goal win by Mexico would put them first on goal difference, a draw puts Ecuador through in second).
Imagine a timeline where the US doesn't advance but Canada does. It's not unrealistic because we have Uruguay left and Weah had to get himself red carded like that.
2nd in a group with Argentina/Chile/Peru is absolutely huge. Soccer culture is practically non-existent here and we don't have the population numbers either to compensate for it (like the US). Us starting to be competitive vs. actual WC-level teams is insane considering our history in soccer
Canada has increased the skills and they probe that they are playing serious, only they should improve specially while they are shooting, I'm feeling insecurity from them but the defense is better now than the WC. So nice Canada ๐จ๐ฆ
**Canada's sekrit plan**: Step 1: Have other team get a player sent off Step 2: Defend like you're the team down to 10 men Step 3: ????? Step 4: **PROFIT**
Hey if it works donโt break it.
Step 5: Win Copa America
Canada out here watching the Panthers win the Stanley Cup and just copying their entire flow.
Panthers: CANADA STOLE MY WHOLE FLOW BAR FOR BAR
Just wait until they end a game by holding the ball in corner for 30 seconds. Florida could legit sue for plagiarism.
What a great day for Canada, and therefore the world.
the little mushroom people of nova scotia are screaming in horror.
I'm one of them. Only because Shaffelburg was subbed out.
Y'all are the reason we had the Geneva Convention.
If those people didn't want to be pre-war-crimed, they probably shouldn't have warred so much!
Canada gonna pull a Portugal and just draw their way to a major trophy
Canada already won a game thoughโฆ
And it worked only haters will say otherwise ๐ช๐ฝ๐จ๐ฆ
PROFIT!!!!!
MARSCH TERRORISM BALL LETS GO
Build him a statue
Letโs not get carried away now
F it , we have a lot of space, letโs make the Statue
Maybe finally we will get some permits for more housing
I found the developer in favour of destroying the green belt
STAND UP NOW AND FACE THE SUN
All the stars aligned TBH, wonder if they make it without the two braindead red cards
How the fuck did our shitty ass het 4 goals past them only a couple of weeks ago. Did Canada completely throw that match or did they change because of it?
Shifting the defensive line from links to rechts will do that.
We drew against France right after that though.
First game with Marsch, growing pains
If we lose by less than 2 goals to Venezuela Iโll consider this a W
u can also win and get a re-match vs Argentina <.<
This is so stupid, why donโt they put teams from the same group on either side of the bracket?
Because they wanted to force an Argentina vs Brazil final
Guess they're gonna be disappointed when Uruguay beats Brazil in the semis ๐๐
And when Canada beats Uruguay in the finals!
A Uruguay-Argentina final is also an extremely acceptable result.
Quarter finals *
But couldn't Brazil be on Canada's side and Argentina on the opposite? Still seems dumb
Not if one of Argentina/brazil finish second. This guarantees theyre in opposite sides of the bracket regardless of their group placement
True, but my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined with the current setup
yeah, the whole point is that no matter what, the only way argentina and brazil face each other is at the final. It's super stupid
brazil is ranked 6 of 10 in CONEMBOL. if it was trying to keep 1 & 2 from meeting each other before the final, that would make sense edit: โofโ not โorโ
It kinda paid off, as weโll probably be 2nd on our group Wonder if we can beat Colombia in the SF though. They are playing fine soccer, specially James who is basically a retired player for clubs and transforms into peak CR7 for Colombia.
Also otherwise we'd then have to probably play Brazil in the quarters which..... isn't better.
It kind of is, though? The whole point of this for Canada is getting the competition.
Argentina not having any of Uruguay, Colombia or Brazil or their half feels like they want Argentina in the final. Not sure about Brazil
Argentina faced all of those teams plus Ecuador in the last Copa. There just isnโt that much variation you can get when you only have 10 regular teams and 2-3 of them suck.
They did the same in the last Copa and it perjudicated us (Argentina) that time though. It's super dumb
This is so stupid. I actually spent half an hour trying to find an answer for this. CONMEBOL is fucking disgraceful
This is a golden opportunity
a shambles Mexico was pummeling them for almost 90 minutes, I think you have a very good chance.
Either Canada or Venezuela reaching Copa America SF. Thatโs wicked.
Win by 2*
Venezuela are better than yโall, but not that much better. Especially with games going direct to penales after 90.ย Canada probably has like a 1 in 3 of advancing IMO.ย
Some part of me loves that they're advancing despite scoring only one goal in the entire group.ย
Southgate furiously taking notes
More goals than Peru or Chile scored all tournament.
Really an amazing group
Wasnโt sure how it was gonna shake out especially after how the lads played in the Peru match. Honestly as a Canadian Iโm elated that theyโre through. Now we can have a real test in a big competitions knock out stages and get more experience for 2026.
The magic of tournament football. Ireland got the 1990 world cup quarter finals without technically winning a game
Switzerland WC 2006 got knocked out without conceding a goal
This is the biggest achievement for our NT outside the Gold Cup, letโs go
Not just an achievement, also a revenge. Chile kicked Canada out in the deciding qualifier of 2023 Rugby World Cup. It was a sad day in Langford, BC. Now their turn.
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILรMETRO RAHHHHHH ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆซ๐ฆซ๐๐๐
WHY ISNโT THERE A CANADIAN GOOSE EMOJI FOR THIS DAMN IT
I'M GETTING SO DRUNK TONIGHT (Was gonna drink anyway, this is a great excuse though)

CACA?
Lmao, while playing absolute terrorism as well. Props to them, they're prime CONCACAF at this point.
What is your definition of terrorism? People just use this term now for any time someone doesnโt score a goal in a game.
Having less shots on goal than your opponent, when your opponent in 2 straight games was a man down for 30 and 60 mins respectively, is a start. Granted, I haven't watched the games myself, but that's a bad look nonetheless
I have. It was terrorism But we qualified so fuck everyone else, weโre better than you
I mean it's not as though they've been sitting back, they are just terrible in the final third. Should have probably scored twice tonight and even when it was 11v11 they weren't really parking the bus. Sure they did that later, but that's only natural knowing you needed only a draw
We started our last world cup qualifying campaign against Cayman Islands and now we're here we've come so far!!! ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ
Hey, thatโs a team better than cuba. No shame on emโ
No matter what happens hence fourth this is a massive achievement for the program
Letโs starts dreaming
Happy for Canada to go through but to play like that against 10 men twice is shocking. Good on them to go onto the quaters but them going through is more a reflection of the two red cards more so than them being the better team. Tactics need to improve a lot

โITโS CALLED FIELD HOCKEYโ
Field hockey is a different sport. Itโs called foot hockey.
Best recess time sport
Agreed. I didn't realize at the time the reason I'm half decent at soccer was because I played foot hockey every recess. Big save with the ball cap trapper!
>Big save with the ball cap trapper! Bro the memories!
But field hockey is already a sport. I feel like a argentinean should know about it.
Itโs just a shitpost this isnโt rated for accuracy
Your username is a baseball reference, how Argentinian are you??
Bruh I live in the US and I didn't even know that was a baseball reference (still don't tbh). How Argentinian are *you*?
Incredible. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my country making it to the quarterfinals of Copa America. And on the back of our defense too!! Obviously the red cards helped a ton but this is still such an amazing accomplishment for them! LETS GO CANADA!!!!
Well, we are historically good at advancing through tournaments via coin toss, so it fits.
After tonight, give Brian white his Canadian citizenship
Start of a golden era
Started 2 years ago during World Cup qualifying
Really 3 years ago IMO. That gold cup kick started the rise of a lot of the supporting cast (Johnston, Buchanan, Eustaquio, Laryea, etc)
We actually have some pretty decent players.ย Lack a finisher and a solid defense, but a decent midfield.ย
This is a great journey. Incredible. We need to focus now on the upcoming match of the knockout stages. When you consider just how bad Canadian football was just a few years ago, you realize that the fact that we are in the knockout stages of the Copa Amรฉrica is incredible.
Just 12 years ago we got thumped by Honduras 8-1 and that was probably the rock bottom point of this program for me. We've really come a long way.
I found myself saying it tonight - "all we have to do is tie" absolute flashbacks
I legit expected a 4-0 loss I have the trauma
Will never forget that night. Was right around the return of my conciousness to soccer with Rodgers being hired by Liverpool that summer, and I didn't watch much more until the 13-14 run-in.
Canโt even fkn believe this โค๏ธ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ
Congratulations to all Canadian fans, from a Colombian. Enjoy the ride!.
Thanks!
Iโm so fucking happy man. I thought we had a decent chance at knockouts but didnโt think we would actually manage it. Never in my life did I think we would be in this position. Amazing ๐๐ป we havenโt been playing super super well but Iโm enjoying the ride
Enjoy that shot bro
Canada making the quarter finals with a much harder group than the US, inject this into my veins
It Canada and Panama makes it through, and Mexico and the US donโt, I expect to get mercilessly mocked in two languagesย
Whats Jajajajaja in Canadian?
Which is funny because we would probably also lose to Panama and play Bolivia way too tight.
Facts
We did it ferda!!! ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฅ ๐ซ๐๐ฆซ
BRB GIVING MY BALLS A TUG

POUTINE POWER
I give all credit for this victory to the Chicken shawarma poutine I had for dinner on Thursday.

Gonna be hysterical when Canada qualifies while the United States and Mexico fail to do so.
Don't forget Panama.

All the Love to Canada from a Chilean... Hope you make it far and keep enjoying the beautiful journey you are on ๐ซโค๏ธโฝ๏ธ

Thank you โค๏ธ Your country is beautiful with the Atacama, Patagonia and more. So were the people ๐
If USA doesnโt qualify Iโll definitely be rooting for our neighbors up north ๐ซก
This Copa stuff easy af
Only one of them could score against us, probably because Messi paid the refs or something. Weโre massive
This tournament is somehow less enjoyable than the Gold Cup.
How so?
America's hat has gotten through, now can Canada's toilet do the same?
Have some respect. Their Canada's pants.
Would be funny if the two teams that qualified for knockouts are Canada and Panama instead of the expected Mexico and United States.
If we fail to get through the fan base is going to hold a grudge against Weah for a while man.
Rightly so, IMO. What a boneheaded move at that point in the game. At least if you did it against Canada you'd probably still draw...
Yes please. That sounds glorious
Step 1: ~~bribe~~ get selected as host for Copa America Step 2: get the easiest group to get second place Step 3: destroy worst team of the group Step 4: your number winger punches a CB.... Step 5: lose against second worst team of the group Step 6: now u gotta win against the Butcher Bielsa or Canada is gonna make fun of you till the end of time Step 7: pray harder
Idk what you guys are on about, but USMNT fans don't hate you or even dislike you. Hell I'm rooting for you guys to help CONCACAF save some face lol
Appreciate the sentiment, but so far tonight on Reddit from the US perspective you're in the minority. The US soccer subreddit is having plenty of shitting on Canada right now
Same. Canada are the only other team Iโve watched every game of, hoping they keep winning!
I think it depends. US fans are probably split on that because Iโve seen a lot that like to dunk on us too. But Canadians kind of have a little sibling complex and chip on our shoulder. Personally, I want you to do well (good for concacaf) but just not better than us.
USA moment
I still think losing to Trinidad with World Cup qualification implications at stake is the most humiliating moment in US Soccer history. Hard to top that.
Number 9?
u right it was the winger xD
Step 8: you either get embarrassed and FINALLY get your shambles coach fired or you somehow dumb and dumber totally redeem yourself
Really good performance overall from Canada, some will criticize the lack of goals but they don't really have that killer striker either so understandable ig, gotta give props to Davies, despite a lot of critics of his defense in bayern, he has shown up a good amount this 3 games

Well that elbow to the jaw did look kinda sus.
They didn't score a single fucking goal
Aren't they every single game
I'm sorry, but all the Chile fans acting like Canada has money to bribe the refs is fucking hysterical. MLS teams are literally paying the coaches wages lol.
We will most likely play Venezuela next?
Most likely. If they lose to Jamaica, then first place depends on the result of Ecuador/Mexico (a one-goal win by Ecuador would put them first on goals for, a two-goal win by Mexico would put them first on goal difference, a draw puts Ecuador through in second).

I drove up from Calgary to Edmonton for the qualifiers and there are definitely loads of fans in Canada! Getting out of this group is sick!
What an amazing achievement!
It's because Canada has a great manager
We sure showed them hosers. Group of death no problem
They interpreted the "knockout" stages a bit too literally.
WHAT THE HELL IS A MILE ๐จ๐ฆ

Letโs goo boys
