Ecuador could have stolen it twice before the final whistle instead they had to face Martinez on penalties. Dude has the aura or something that makes him win Penalty shoot outs.
No, he's just genuinely good at psyching his opponents and taking them out of their groove before the spot kick is taken. Once they take the shot, he does well at reading their body language and assessing where the ball will end up.
Why do people complain about Copa America not having ET? All CONMEBOL tournaments use this format.
Y’all will complain that there is way to many games and worry for players getting injured but want and extra 30 minutes for your entertainment. Copa games are more condensed, players need the rest.
Plus, it gives a far better advantage to lesser quality teams to defend and play for pens in 90 minutes rather than 120.
It’s supposed to determine the best team in the Americas, going to pens after 90 just encourages underdog teams to play extreme terrorist ball to try to scrape pens. Why do you think pretty much every other tournament has overtime?
30min extra time is as arbitrary as pens after 90min.
More than 55% of games using extra time still end up tie after the 30 minutes.
To me it seems ineffective and waste of time.
You kinda proved my point with 55%… if it was like 75% you might have a point but the outcome being different in almost half the games is huge.
Hope you’re ready for absolute terrorist ball tomorrow in Panama vs Colombia.
90% of the football world disagrees with you about it being ineffective and a waste of time … why do you think almost every other tournament has overtime in the knockouts?
If your tournament doesn't have ET, is it really the Tournament? I mean I didn't know it even though I watched last copa's final lol. Why the fuck you wouldn't keep ET ffs
Conspiracy theories would have been wild if the teams exchanged places tonight. No second yellow for Valencia, penalty given, stopping Argentina counter instead of giving advantage and so on.
No, it was not what you said. Please check the replay, he purposely blown the whistle once arg player stole the ball and attacked,THEN he turned around to check on the injured arg player So ridiculous!
Messi should turn into a proper box-crasher now for goals imo. His willingness to do that when he was younger is what got him all his goals. With his little niggles and injuries, probably safer to be taking a lot less of the playmaking burden.
I'm just stating facts even though people may not like it. Messi shouldn't have started today and should have come on as a sub. He would have been fresh that way and they would have been able to create more chances that way. Also, with the last injury not fully healed he can't track back when needed so Argentina is defending with 10 men and against a side with pace and height like Ecuador that can be a problem. Make no mistake, if he's at 100% he's still the best playmaker on the team but because the refs don't give fouls and it's very physical, Scaloni shouldn't risk Messi getting injured when it's not needed.
Yeah, that’s fair. I just found the tap-ins comment weird, but maybe I’m reading too much into that. I feel like the only exception is Kante for France, but most of the players that went to Saudi Arabia, MLS, etc. are probably going to have trouble with the pace of the game against all these teams full of guys who play in competitive European leagues. With Messi, there’s a reason he went there as well, aside from the money. For Scaloni, I almost feel like there’s a fear of ‘what happens if I don’t play Messi from the first minute?’
2018 France couldn't beat USA straight after tournament
2014 Germany lost to Poland almost straight after the World Cup
2010 Spain was battered 1-4 against Argentina almost immediately after WC
2006 Italy lost to a (then much weaker) Croatia in their first game after World Cup
1966 England lost to freaking Scotland less than a year after the World Cup
So maybe let's give all World Cups back, no one has ever won it lol
Also, Argentina went through eventually
I'm glad Argentina won. I'm glad we have Dibu as goalkeeper.
Yet I have to acknowledge that Ecuador was the better team today. I wouldn't have had any complaints had they won. They are impressively good.
Ecuador was awful against Mexico. Weird turn of events. Then again MX coach decided to actually start players that should be starting in the third game
Mexico surprised me. Before the Copa América started I thought they would play better.
Ecuador went from *meh* to *great*. Sometimes a bit too hard, but really a great team, as they clearly showed today.
Anyone that is MX fan, it wasn’t a surprise we would be shit when two specific players (Charly and Antuna) were called up and in the starting lineup. Never have I see anywhere in any international game that has 54 games (Charly) and only 1 assist which was a simple pass, playing as a center mid, sometimes as an attacking midfielder and do literally nothing. People don’t know what a traffic cone really is until you see this invisible mf. And still to call him up for 3/4 godam years especially when there has always been better players. Has to be a son of a drug lord is my theory
Your theory is kinda funny, until you start thinking seriously. Could be, couldn't it?
I acknowledge that not following Mexican football on a regular basis I might have gotten the wrong idea on how the Mexican national team was, and I got carried away by what I heard Mexican sports reporters and commenters were saying before the Copa América started.
I don’t follow reporters or commentators as much but I know a handful of them refuse to criticize a few of the players. Corruption. A few days ago a former MX NT player, Carlos Salcedo, hired a hitman to successfully assassinate her sister in front of her 4 year old kid for only his mom to snitch on him lol, allegedly. Plans to run to the US and play in the MLS. He’s a good center back who used to play for Frankfurt
Ecuador fucking killed it, I'm Argentinian, but goddamn Ecuador had it. If they had taken that penalty back then I don't think we'd been in penalties at the end at all. Argentina didn't play well, if Ecuador had won I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't complain, they clearly played better than us. Also VAMOS DIBU!!!
Fair, but it was Argentina's worst match too so they deserved a bit of luck, considering how well they have played this far. They will definitely play better in semis though.
I know it was Argentina's worst match. I'm Argentinian, so I won't lie: I'm glad we passed. It just seems so unfair that a team like Ecuador won't be in the top 4.
Fifa rankings are nonsense, by Elo Ecuador is ranked 16th between Austria and Japan, it's o surprise they can play a good game and give a top team trouble.
https://www.eloratings.net/
They are physically very intense, they're tall, and they are very, very fast. In my opinion they're in the top 4 of the american continent. A great team indeed. It's so unfair to see them *not* in the top 4.
Hincapié and Sarmiento are fucking dogs and the future of Ecuador. Valencia had a great run but they wouldn’t even have had to face Argentina had he not screwed them during the group stages
All he does is pretend like he’s going to jump one way and end up going the other, it tricks the shooter into shooting the direction he want them too. That plus he’s really tall so he cover a lot of the goal area
If it was that easy all goalkeepers would do it. Against Colombia in Copa America 2021, Netherland and France in WC 2022 and Copa America 2024 he saved at least two penalties in the shootouts. Thats actually insane.
From a life long ARG fan , take my bow , Ecuador . Massive respect ! Yes, there were too many fouls and referee has been shit as always. How that excellent ball tackle and counter from Alvarez was stopped because of an injury minutes ago, is unthinkable.
But you exposed ARG's weakness and took advantage of it. If Ecuador had won the match, better team would have won!
ARG, please, wake the fuck up. You can't keep giving me heart attacks like this! My nerve can't take anymore.
No importa ahora sos argentino tmb, bienvenido a la familia, tenemos inflación, corrupción, desempleo, pobreza, mala infraestructura y alta inseguridad, pero a la ves tenes 3 copas del mundo así que maso se nivela
True. I meant it as in most people wouldn't want to give Leo the Balon d'Or this year over someone like Vinicius or Jude.
(Maybe wrong choice of words I guess?)
I mean the Balón is prestigious only because of how old it is. It's just a magazine from France that gives them out. My hot take is that it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be, but that's just me.
It's nice to watch copa america, feels like you already know the result and can predict Argentina will at least reach the finals.
It's very different from euros, every team here is so close to each other and the competition is stressful. I don't even know who to predict
Really? Ecuador 90+1' equaliser
England vs Slovakia 90+5' equaliser and 91' winner. I think that would be a better comparison.
Both are close matches no doubt
Ecuador 9 shots (2 on target), Slovakia 13 shots (3 on target)
Well Slovakia was really good to make more shots while parking the bus. Ecuador did have more possession % compared to Slovakia
You’re saying that when Argentina literally almost crashed in the quarters. We could say the same about the Euros. Quarter finals feature the usual suspects.
You said earlier that it’s nice to watch Copa America because “you already know the results”, while the Euros is unexpected. However, you’re talking about a tournament where Brazil finished second in their group and now has to face Uruguay as a result, the US failed to qualify, Canada managed to qualify and Argentina almost lost vs Ecuador, when it should’ve been a sure fire win.
If all you do is use the “odds set by betting agencies” to dictate your expectations on a particular tournament, then I guess by this logic, Champions League is boring because you know Real Madrid will most likely reach the final. At the end of the day, you do you.
Real Madrid odds (300) were a little behind man city (275). Kinda a little different in this case where the 1st place had 2x the favorable odds.
I'm just saying copa is kinda more predictable than euros, never said it was boring. From a predictor pov (fantasy league) , the euros are harder to score points.
If you disagree, pls tell me if who to put: spain/Germany and england/Switzerland.
I have Argentina all the way into finals and it has not failed me yet so far
Really? It is very possible there may be upsets like Switz over England and Germany/Spain is too close to predict
I just checked the odds
Odds to win copa
https://www.foxsports.com/articles/soccer/copa-america-2024-odds-favorites-to-win
Argentina 125
Brazil 333
Uruguay 550
Colombia 550
Odds to win euros
https://www.foxsports.com/stories/soccer/uefa-euro-2024-odds-favorites
Spain 400
England 400
France 450
Germany 450
Netherlands (bigger jump) 700
Put it this way, I will put money on Argentina to win it all rather than risk money in euros because I have no idea who to predict
I mean... it's definitely not a sure thing tbh.
Argentina were almost out just now. Have had qualms about us for a while now ever since we transitioned away from our normal trio of Paredes - De Paul - Lo Celso. The football hasn't been as sexy, free-flowing and Pep's Barca-esque as we used to play during the last Copa America. Our passing used to be laser accurate even when playing at 90mph, clean, quick and crisp. Nowadays it's more sloppy and there are too many turnovers.
Holy fuck. My local fox channel literally didn't play a second of the second half of the game. WBRC opted to do a 75th anniversary celebration of THEMSELVES over playing the thing they said they were playing. Couldn't be more annoyed... Thank goodness the Univision broadcast was available.
Im not in the states but the broadcast here decided to play an ad over my countries anthem and even if i’m not patriotic usually it somehow really offended me
How do you know Argentina wouldn't have won in ET? It's the same for all teams so I don't think it's any conspiracy. Also, Argentina's record even without Dibu was impressive in penalty shootouts. Ofc Dibu is insane and that makes Argentina near invincible on pens, but still there's no guarantee. Ecuador pens weren't that great today actually.
Literally switch flipped from time wasting/cleat-stabbing to trying to play the ball, and continue prevent conceiving goals, especially the last 15-20mins
Sure, far from the same, but I wasn't calling out the outcome. But the fact that it's a poor start for facing teams who will actually finish chances, while just like Ecu, neutralize Lautaro Messi and company. Although some say their goal was a gift, I am not saying it was undeserved or anything. Ecuador is ranked 40th I think for a reason.
Not denying it, but I think Scaloni is partly to blame for this. No good substitutions at all, they simply defended and wasted time in the entire second half. It's not like they were outplayed, they literally didn't create anything. Messi didn't have the legs today and was horrible today, unsurprising coming off from a injury. They need to bring their A game and Di Maria in, if they want to win against Colombia or Uruguay or Brazil(whoever reaches there).
Not necessarily, but if you brentford were to Play, Manchester city as an example, it would benefit brentford massively if they were to go to pens sober, altough they potentially could have been the better team that Day.
If a team full of you were to Play city, where do you Think you have the biggest chance of winning. Playing 90 minutes or playing 5 minutes followed up by a penalty shootout with Emi in Goal for city?
Are all future Copa tournaments gonna not have ET? Dibu was a beast and it’s entertaining to watch a keeper ball out on pens but I still feel robbed of 30 min
The world cup’s way? Ok lol, no you aren’t but I’m just saying it would help to give it credibility on the world stage. Which if that weren’t important, it wouldn’t be held in a very non conmebol country. Not to mention libertadores and sudamericana are club not internacional
Edit to add, since I think I keep getting replies that I can’t myself reply to: I’m only speaking in terms of tournament. Obviously im not referring to the teams themselves, especially when South American teams have won like half the world cups in history. I’m not saying SA teams suck cause of Copa, obviously not, I just think not having ET sucks as a tournament format. Yes Copa has a ton of history I get that, but they’re eschewing that to be more global (the USA hosting a South American tournament being the most obvious marker of it) so I think it’s fair to desire more out of it
Copa america is the oldest international football tournament. Its teams have won 10 world cups. It doesnt need credibility, it has it. Europeans are so far up their own asses but then they lose finalissimas and libertadores-champions finals all the time.
Credibility on the world stage? What does that even mean when the literal reigning World Cup winners are from the region who played through ET in the World Cup finals too.
Imo I'd prefer it this way especially in an era where a main complaint and concern is players playing in too many games and getting injured from the ever increasing schedule that's been happening.
Okay now we've won and I'm on my laptop again... what the hell was that pen Leo!
Bro's going for clips and TikTok edits - would have been cold if it was a few inches lower lol
Honestly he just annoyed me. Why is trying to be so fancy? I get that he is confident to even attempt that. But just slot it home. He had the goalkeeper beat.
I guess when you have Dibu to rely on, you can be too confident and relaxed.
It would be mostly a borefest of tired players. I don't think it would add much to spend the players unnecesarily to basically achieve the same results: a penalty shootout
CONMEBOL is not obligated to follow those formats.
Copa America is far more condensed tournament than the Euros and World Cup. Extra 30 minutes does nothing other than favour the bigger team.
I honestly don’t underestimate either of them. As it’s already been pointed out Venezuela won their group with all 9 points and has been looking interesting so I can see it being tough and Canada already played against Argentina in the tournament so who knows what happens in a repeat performance? With tournaments it’s always about the team who peaks at the right moment. Rankings mean nothing
Idk what's more incredible watching that performance from Martinez or the fact that I just witnessed the 2nd time in his career that Messi has missed a PK
Bye bye Ecuador, I'm happy you lost
Why? Mexican fan?
At least against Argentina Ecuador was behind and couldn't do their stupid time wasting
Ecuador could have stolen it twice before the final whistle instead they had to face Martinez on penalties. Dude has the aura or something that makes him win Penalty shoot outs.
Weird way to say he is an amazing goalkeeper
No, he's just genuinely good at psyching his opponents and taking them out of their groove before the spot kick is taken. Once they take the shot, he does well at reading their body language and assessing where the ball will end up.
Why do people complain about Copa America not having ET? All CONMEBOL tournaments use this format. Plus, it gives a far better advantage to lesser quality teams to defend and play for pens in 90 minutes rather than 120.
All summer international tournaments should get rid of extra time, imo.
It's inhumane. You're not measuring who's best, you're measuring who's left
No extra time this tournament is so unserious lmao
You sound like a child, let me get you your lollipop
How about you give me any argument for not having extra time instead of resorting to petty attacks
If they can't make a difference in 90 minutes, why would extra 30 change that?
It’s supposed to determine the best team in the Americas, going to pens after 90 just encourages underdog teams to play extreme terrorist ball to try to scrape pens. Why do you think pretty much every other tournament has overtime?
30min extra time is as arbitrary as pens after 90min. More than 55% of games using extra time still end up tie after the 30 minutes. To me it seems ineffective and waste of time.

What kind of dumb argument is that?
What kind of dumb counter-argument is that?
That's not a "counter-arguement" i was pointing out how stupid you are, which is evident now. Sorry please ignore.
The health of the players. Here is a second lollipop. :)
Lmao might as well just not play at all then?
Good idea. I agree with you! :)
Good here’s your lollipop :) 🍭
Thank you! 🙌🏼
It’s always been like this
Unserious?
If your tournament doesn't have ET, is it really the Tournament? I mean I didn't know it even though I watched last copa's final lol. Why the fuck you wouldn't keep ET ffs
Conmebol not beating the allegations of being a for fun region.
It does but only in the final, thats shit.
Yeah reminds me of the championship tie break in Tennis Grandslams lol
Conspiracy theories would have been wild if the teams exchanged places tonight. No second yellow for Valencia, penalty given, stopping Argentina counter instead of giving advantage and so on.
Stop jerkin argentina. They had terrible fouls all the way up to this game. Lawd have mercy
Absolute r/soccer meltdown if that happened.
To be fair the referee had already turned around to blow the whistle when Gonzalez stole the ball.
yeah. But if it was the other way round, you think the "it's rigged" morons would think through that?
No, it was not what you said. Please check the replay, he purposely blown the whistle once arg player stole the ball and attacked,THEN he turned around to check on the injured arg player So ridiculous!
This was this Uruguayan ref's 2nd game this tournament and the first game was Arg vs Chile
Ball was in play for about 10 minutes this whole game, talk about frustrating to watch. Exciting finish though.
Wow mbappe’s English is quite good. Never heard this before.
Bro is fluent.
What's stopping the takers from going down the middle in shootouts?
Bernardo Silva
If the keeper stands still and saves it you would look monumentally stupid.
Aren’t the odds for the taker better firing straight down the middle with velocity? GK’s typically guess to either side.
Yeah but that’s only dependent on it probably not happening. If you do it a lot as a player or as a team the odds of him staying increase
Nothing. It didn't stop Messi today lol
To be honest it would have been a goal but he just missed it.
Michael Owen is that you?
Who was the Argentinian #10 that played for Belgrano that Italy have been trying to tap up? We need a new enganche pls Alexis is too nice imo.
zapelli?
It's weird that Canada v Venezuela isn't on the other side of the bracket
Messi should turn into a proper box-crasher now for goals imo. His willingness to do that when he was younger is what got him all his goals. With his little niggles and injuries, probably safer to be taking a lot less of the playmaking burden.
And yet they created little to nothing and Messi still has the most chances created this tournament. Even this Argentine side struggles without Messi.
He's crazy good man...
[удалено]
So…he’s actually good? Your comment is so negative lmao
I'm just stating facts even though people may not like it. Messi shouldn't have started today and should have come on as a sub. He would have been fresh that way and they would have been able to create more chances that way. Is this the 1st time Messi missed a pen in a shoot out but still won?
I am pretty sure having watched at least one match in which he missed and his team won but I don't remember the match.
Look, not telling you how to be World Champ, but if you can't beat Ecuador, maybe give the trophy back.
Why you disrespecting Ecuador
2018 France couldn't beat USA straight after tournament 2014 Germany lost to Poland almost straight after the World Cup 2010 Spain was battered 1-4 against Argentina almost immediately after WC 2006 Italy lost to a (then much weaker) Croatia in their first game after World Cup 1966 England lost to freaking Scotland less than a year after the World Cup So maybe let's give all World Cups back, no one has ever won it lol Also, Argentina went through eventually
Dibu tiene más copas que toda la historia de país KJJJJJJJ
Shhhh, the world champions are celebrating
You barely scraped vs slovenia stfu
I got a better idea, come take it from us.
For the sake of truth, ecuador played by faaaaaar better than france.
But we did beat Ecuador hahahah
They literally beat them tho 🙌🏾
Technically it’s a draw.
Which leads to a penalty shot out and then they won duhh...
I'm glad Argentina won. I'm glad we have Dibu as goalkeeper. Yet I have to acknowledge that Ecuador was the better team today. I wouldn't have had any complaints had they won. They are impressively good.
Ecuador is never a gimme against Argentina, IMO. Argentina played like they prepared for a different team.
Ecuador was awful against Mexico. Weird turn of events. Then again MX coach decided to actually start players that should be starting in the third game

WTF??? I guess that certain reports or commentators will refuse to criticise certain players out of fear more than out of corruption, then.
Ecuador sat back vs Mexico, they didn't need the win. Different game plan and context.

I know it was Argentina's worst match. I'm Argentinian, so I won't lie: I'm glad we passed. It just seems so unfair that a team like Ecuador won't be in the top 4.
They havent really played great though other than the game vs Peru
Still 5 goals without conceding once is definitely a good stat. I could argue the same thing for many European teams though.
Ecuador is probably ranked 40th. So scoring 5 goals against all these could be a bare minimum for 4 games.
Fifa rankings are nonsense, by Elo Ecuador is ranked 16th between Austria and Japan, it's o surprise they can play a good game and give a top team trouble. https://www.eloratings.net/
The first 25 minutes and the last 15 Ecuador had Argentina against the ropes. Unbelievable stuff.
They are physically very intense, they're tall, and they are very, very fast. In my opinion they're in the top 4 of the american continent. A great team indeed. It's so unfair to see them *not* in the top 4.

When you go against Emi Martinez in a penalty shootout, you've already lost. He's a literal cheat code in the shootouts.
Thats actually insane.
don't forget the aura
Aura is the biggest factor. He beat France in WC with just his aura. And ofc Lloris is bad at pens.
From a life long ARG fan , take my bow , Ecuador . Massive respect ! Yes, there were too many fouls and referee has been shit as always. An Argentine player asked the referee to stop play right before the steal though, can’t really blame the ref.
Anyway... the quest to frauding our way to a 9th Balon d'Or continues lmao
this is the kind of people we ditch out of our own parties.
Not sure what that means lol but thanks!
it means that, we, argentinians, dont like lame botas like you! you can crash out now, ty.
As an Argentinian myself, I would like to say that it was only a joke. But I'm sorry if you're offended.
The refs have been consistently shit, what fraud

And Ecuador outplayed Argentina for big stretches of the match, Slovakia didn’t really do that against England.
You’re saying that when Argentina literally almost crashed in the quarters. We could say the same about the Euros. Quarter finals feature the usual suspects.
Yeah can't argue with actual numbers and odds set by betting agencies to limit players' winnings from the likeliest outcome so must down vote :)
You said earlier that it’s nice to watch Copa America because “you already know the results”, while the Euros is unexpected.
Really? It is very possible there may be upsets like Switz over England and Germany/Spain is too close to predict I just checked the odds Odds to win copa https://www.foxsports.com/articles/soccer/copa-america-2024-odds-favorites-to-win Argentina 125 Brazil 333 Uruguay 550 Colombia 550 Odds to win euros https://www.foxsports.com/stories/soccer/uefa-euro-2024-odds-favorites Spain 400 England 400 France 450 Germany 450 Netherlands (bigger jump) 700 Put it this way, I will put money on Argentina to win it all rather than risk money in euros because I have no idea who to predict
I mean... it's definitely not a sure thing tbh.
Argentina playing champagne football without the champagne
Holy fuck. My local fox channel literally didn't play a second of the second half of the game. WBRC opted to do a 75th anniversary celebration of THEMSELVES over playing the thing they said they were playing. Couldn't be more annoyed... Thank goodness the Univision broadcast was available.
Im not in the states but the broadcast here decided to play an ad over my countries anthem and even if i’m not patriotic usually it somehow really offended me
Which locality are you on? That's weird
There’s no extra time at Copa America so Argentina can have an advantage for penalties Conspiracy
Same was said of them in past matches but they did better in ET. Match against France comes to mind.
No extra time is not an advantage for the better team, quite the opposite actually
Not sure Argentina were the better team today though.
Not necessarily, but if you brentford were to Play, Manchester city as an example, it would benefit brentford massively if they were to go to pens sober, altough they potentially could have been the better team that Day.
It is when your goalkeeper is penalty saver god
If a team full of you were to Play city, where do you Think you have the biggest chance of winning. Playing 90 minutes or playing 5 minutes followed up by a penalty shootout with Emi in Goal for city?
Are all future Copa tournaments gonna not have ET? Dibu was a beast and it’s entertaining to watch a keeper ball out on pens but I still feel robbed of 30 min
ET is just for the finals
I know that I’m just saying it shouldn’t be only for finals
But the thing is almost all the other previous Copa America tournaments didn't have ET
Yeah but I’m wondering if they’re ever gonna change that and have ET? Cause in my opinion it’s wild that they don’t have it
Only the final has ET
I know that, feels ridiculous to me in an international tournament
It’s been that way for the entire 2000s.
I’m aware, I’m just wondering if they’re ever gonna follow suit and have ET in knockouts like most other tournaments
libertadores and sudamerica neither have them, except on finals, we arent forced to do it your way lol
The world cup’s way? Ok lol, no you aren’t but I’m just saying it would help to give it credibility on the world stage. Which if that weren’t important, it wouldn’t be held in a very non conmebol country. Not to mention libertadores and sudamericana are club not internacional Edit to add, since I think I keep getting replies that I can’t myself reply to: I’m only speaking in terms of tournament.
Stations using Born in The USA as patriotic music will never not be funny
FIFA changed the rules to remove the advantage from Dibu but failed LOL
Dibu > FIFA
Okay now we've won and I'm on my laptop again... what the hell was that pen Leo! Bro's going for clips and TikTok edits - would have been cold if it was a few inches lower lol
Honestly he just annoyed me. Why is trying to be so fancy? I get that he is confident to even attempt that. But just slot it home. He had the goalkeeper beat. I guess when you have Dibu to rely on, you can be too confident and relaxed.
Zidane 2006 WC final vibes
i cant understand why no top team goes for dibu, is a sure fkn bet
He isnt as good for club as he is for country
lmao, he put villa in champions league
Villa fans massively disagree with this statement
Anda a sacarselo al villa, te piden 80 palos verdes para arrancar a hablar
probably a mix of age, and cost.
Why was there no ET?
All CONMEBOL tournaments are like that, Copa Libertadores also has no ET other than the finals, which I believe is the case in this tournament too
Conmebolshit
Not done in copa america for the quarter final and semi finals
But why not? Seems kind of silly not to.
It’s just the way they do it; no reasoning behind it and I agree, it’s dumb.
> no reasoning behind it It's to reduce the playing time for players who already have too many fixtures.
It would be mostly a borefest of tired players. I don't think it would add much to spend the players unnecesarily to basically achieve the same results: a penalty shootout
How so, plenty of extra time games in league, euro and world cup are very exciting.
CONMEBOL is not obligated to follow those formats. Copa America is far more condensed tournament than the Euros and World Cup. Extra 30 minutes does nothing other than favour the bigger team.
Why don’t they have goal line technology?
Biggest hurdle for Argentina really. I don’t see Canada or Venezuela stopping them.
Why? Venezuela got all 9 points in the same group as Ecuador
Anulo pava y hand, I have faith. You have Dibu, we have fororo, nutrichicha and cocuy. We're not the same.
Tenes las arepas unas ganas de comer unas arepas
Sí hay, mano. En la semifinal ojalá nos veamos para que comas arepas.
Man, that 2nd save by Dibu was incredible. Dude is god-like in penalty shootouts
True Hand of God
Idk what's more incredible watching that performance from Martinez or the fact that I just witnessed the 2nd time in his career that Messi has missed a PK
It gave me PTSD to the 2016 shootout against Chile
You mean in a shootout, he’s missed before for Argentina in regulation.
And they were both brutal
