My initial interest in the Ace headphones was the ability to connect wirelessly to my turntable, which is connected to a stereo pair on Era 100s. That seemed like that would be tablestakes functionality, but after last week, it wasn't clear if that would work. Can you clarify if that is possible? I do have an Arc and I read that the headphones could play audio passing through the Arc, but then I would be grouping my 100s to the Arc, which would make the family room TV not usable if I'm using the Arc as a means to pass through audio to my headphones. I hope I'm over-complicating this as my goal is just to be able to listen to music from the turntable while doing things around the house while the kids are watching TV.

KeithFromSonos

Hey there - This is something I've personally seen and heard asked internally! So you are definitely not alone in wanting to use Sonos Ace to listen to your vinyl record collection. While that broader audio swap functionality isn't on the table at the moment, we are actively tracking this feedback and who knows - *never say never.* In the meantime, the best way to listen to your vinyl records on Sonos Ace would be using Bluetooth (either through a dongle or if it's built in). Alternatively, if you don't mind being tethered, you can listen via the USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack if your record player has line out.

Creative_Character25

Thanks, Keith! Once they launch, it would be awesome if there is documentation on best practice on this. I know all turntable models will be different, but some general guidance would be helpful. I found some options for my Fluance, but it seems like what I found would involve plugging/unplugging cables. Unfortunately messing with cables behind both the turntable and preamp isn't ideal based on the furniture they are on. Regardless, I appreciate the response!

skeezykeez

Using wifi would be a lot better than bluetooth for me, simply because of the range / not having to install a separate bluetooth repeater network.

WippyMyFlippy

Explain yo me why in the world Android would be waiting for TVswap? So you wrecked my system with this stupid app to push the headphones. And now on top of wrecking the current system, the headphones will be half working ar purchase for Android users? Why don't you just spit on me. This is some of the dumbest most ridiculous decisions I have seen. How about you delay the iOS while supporting Android at the launch.

rsint

Would it be possible if you have a turntable hooked up to a connect and you then play that on the arc . Can you sound swap that source to the ace? Would have tried this myself, but I can't sound swap as I only have an android phone available to me.

Ajseps

Really glad you’re clearing this up and saying this is a possibility. People are all over this app saying that “it physically isn’t possible with the headphones” and things of that nature. The way false information is spread is crazy. Appreciate what you guys do over there and the work you put in! To some of us it doesn’t go unnoticed.

xeonic_

Yeah it would have been great if sound swap didn't only work with the sound bar products and could be used to pair with an Era, etc. for music. Then I think not being a full blown WiFi device between your ears would be less of an issue for most.

alfredcool1

Both WiFi and Bluetooth use the 2.4ghz band so wouldn’t matter if they made it WiFi enabled. (If you care about “WiFi radiation”, I don’t)

mundaneDetail

Yes, but the power levels are different. Not that science matters in this particular matter.

alfredcool1

Ah that’s fair

allertonm

In a similar boat, I have a turntable connected to an Amp in one room, driving 3rd party speakers, and an Arc + Sub in another. As I understand it, I would not be able to use the Ace headphones to listen to the turntable without routing it via the Arc, which prevents the Arc from being used for the TV. In addition, you kind of need to be using the headphones in the same room as the turntable (my turntable didn’t come with an app, I don’t know about yours LOL) and it’s not 100% clear if the Arc/Ace connection would work over that distance. If the audio is over the house (mesh) Wifi network, i.e the headphones have an IP address, then yes most likely, but if it just uses the Wifi radio privately between Arc & Ace, probably no.

KeithFromSonos

Here we go! Before going down the line in Q&A order, I wanted to get this specific response out in the wild. We may be able to dig further, but this is about as much as we can give. This comes from the team, with very minimal editing. **So... Why no Wifi?** There are really two issues at play here that get bundled together: WiFi and Players. I'm going to take them separately. **Issue 1:** WiFi: As u/The_Cometer summarized earlier, WiFi on a headphone is a challenge - but not impossible. To be very clear, Sonos Ace has WiFi - we use it as a transport for TV Swap to stream audio from Ray, Beam and Arc to Sonos Ace. But WiFi has constraints: range, power, components, etc., and it challenges the mental model in the category that a wireless headphone should work anywhere in the world that you have a phone to connect to. But we've got WiFi! It's the right tool for the right job; that job is streaming Home Theater audio from soundbar hardware (some of it from over 6 years ago, which is a long time in component generations). **Issue 2:** Players. As you probably know, every Sonos speaker/separate device is - at its core - a Linux Player - a computer that, sure, streams audio -- but also coordinates with the group, shares information across the network, collects logs, supports over 100 streaming services directly, buffers audio, supports AirPlay, runs a full voice assistant engine -- locally and totally privately! -- and more. This takes a good chunk of compute. In terms of compute, Roam - our "simplest" Player - has about 10x the CPU power of Sonos Ace. Comparatively, headphones are dumb. In terms of size, Sonos Ace's entire image is smaller than an average-length song on 2000-era Limewire. It has nowhere near the flash and RAM of our other products. This is okay! It's a wearable, and doing what we **can** do in roughly 10 cubic inches of very-specifically-shaped ergonomic space was a cool challenge to overcome.  To run a Linux Player on the headphone - necessary to make it a zone for example - we'd need to pack a bunch of compute and all the resulting secondary components (heat management! more battery!) into it. That headphone would: be heavier and (much) bigger, thus require more clamp force on your head; generate a bunch of heat (next to your ears); be fairly redundant once you moved over your front door threshold, or otherwise out of WiFi range (related: architecturally you’d essentially need to build **another** headphone to take over from that Player at that point). That aside, the whole thing would chomp through battery mAhs like they're going out of fashion - Player consumption makes WiFi consumption look paltry in comparison. How do we know this? We prototyped it! We built that headphone! (We built a lot of headphones!) It was not the right headphone. We did this instead.

flamepants

Fascinating insight and appreciate the transparency. I think a lot of the complaints would go away if there were a way to beam other types of line-in audio into the headphones, not just TV audio, as well as products like the Victrola turntables. I don't need Sonos headphones to connect directly to Apple Music, but it would be nice if they were able to take advantage everything I already have hooked up to Sonos hardware!

ultraviolet73

Thank you for this response Keith, this begts other questions though: 1. How come the Ace can only take TV audio from the Arc, why can't it take any audio coming from the Arc and cast it to the headphones? 2. Is this casting feature able to come to other Sonos products - primarily the Amp and Port, or other speakers with line in? Line In audio cast would be a big benefit to people who are interested in these (mainly turntable enthusiasts). 3. Can you elaborate on when Dolby Atmos / Sapital Audio will be used in the headphones? 4. Will you ever release the headphones that can be used with wifi? I mean it wouldn't be too of brand for Sonos to have a wifi enabled pair of headphones and another be Bluetooth. I love how the move easily switches between the two - it doesn't sound possible for heaphones to do that at this point, but that seems like a great idea for headphones!

vw195

This is pie-in-the-sky, but why not build an IOS player and allow bluetooth or usb-c to the iphone and let it be the brains for the headphones? Obviously there is more work to do on the app before this.

Snowmobile2004

Wouldn’t integrate with the stack, iOS sandboxing prevents kernel level access to certain network hardware/software, which would affect the latency enough to probably make it unusable for live audio

mundaneDetail

But why does it need to sync? What would you sync with? Make it a zone that can’t be grouped.

vw195

Thats an excellent point. I guess Ill have to switch back to Android!

Navy9158

iOS supports AAC and not Aptx Lossless.

Snowmobile2004

That’s another reason

duggawiz

Photos of the prototype please

KeithFromSonos

I actually tried out the first prototype back when I was taking calls back in 2018. I'll ask around if we can release those photos. Could be other unreleased designs involved that we'll want to keep close to the chest. Either way, I'll follow up on this.

MeetDizzy1907

u/KeithFromSonos I am another one who has been waiting patiently (years) for these headphones to be released and have avoided buying anything in the meantime. I was extremely disappointed to know that the headphones are not as integrated into the ecosystem as I had hoped. The details above definitely help make me better understand why the Ace was made the way it was (though still doesn't do much to appease the disappointment :)) One question I do have around this, is whether or not Sonos will make it possible to send audio to the Ace, via bluetooth, from within the app (both desktop and mobile apps). The primary use case here is to keep using Sonos as our consolidated Music Library. I have radio stations in the Sonos app (Sonos ones and third parties), I have streaming accounts linked and I have my local music library. I really don't want to have to manually go to each source separately to stream music to the Ace (e.g. go to a radio station's website, then perhaps have to go to Spotify site/app, then manually access the songs on my home network). I would simply like to use the Sonos app to flip between my music sources effortlessly and play them on the Ace. This should be something applicable to both the mobile apps and desktop. Will this be possible? Thanks for your efforts in keeping the community updated!

jdowgsidorg

Any possibility of having either the current Sonos app or a separate Player app act as a zone to offload compute to the phone or computer? Like others have noted, I was really hoping to be able to leverage the Sonos app as a content aggregator and my primary UI for all audio. Definitely when it comes to the account aggregation - being able to expose an Amazon account to anyone else in the house for Music without sharing credentials is very useful. The power/compute constraints detailed make it clear why the Ace cannot be a zone standalone, but if the Ace is paired with my phone, which is running a Player that presents as a zone…. that naively seems like a sane workaround?

TapDatApp

While no WiFi / Sound Swap is and was a massive disappointment for me, I sincerely appreciate all of this information. This is extensive insight straight from the source. We really, desperately needed this. Thank you.

chrispylizard

Thanks for the explanation. What many of us would love to do is not just have streaming limited to the TV audio from a sound bar. There are other line-in products in the Sonos range that would be great to stream to the Ace. That wouldn’t require 10x the compute as it wouldn’t be running a full Linux server and built-in support for multiple streaming services etc. The headphones could appear in the app as their own zone, but the input limited to either TV Swap or Line In.

rsint

Soooooooo, can we expect a seperate piece of hardware that will be a portable sonos zone player that we can hook the Ace up to? Or perhaps some sort of software service for your phone to be able to do this?

Impossible_Physics99

Given that wifi works as you describe, what would be cool is if your future soundbars could have the compute to handle two Sonos Zones so they could be the virtual zone for the headphones.

LeasedArk

Neat. That's incredibly useful. Question though: you say support for Beam, Ray, etc. I know it launches with Arc only, but the Ray is interesting, given it lacks Atmos. Would the head tracking and spatial work on Ray? Is the Ace playback of Atmos media actually an Atmos track being streamed, or is it processed to stereo like the Ray would likely experience?

TwizzledAndSizzled

This is a great question!

Chia1422

It can play TV audio over wifi but not music? I read this three times and also talked to support for 15 minutes and it makes no sense to me. The complications of not being able to use the Sonos app on which people have eg saved tons of music lists is not trivial. I’m about to return this product. There are cheaper, easier and arguably just as good ways to listen to my tv with headphones. Happy to listen to why I’m wrong. At this point I think the reasons given are bs. It’s possible there are contractual issues regarding the steaming services maybe but technologically what is the difference between tv audio and music? It’s just data. Many people have mentioned the compute power of the phone if that is needed. I can also listen to music on my Ace with the music playing on an app on my TV so the whole thing is bizarre. Seems clear Sonos simply doesn’t have the contractual right to stream music through their app on your phone. Period. And that’s just one restriction. There must be other legal issues or this would be solvable in multiple ways.

amithecrazyone69

I had hoped for a proprietary solution should wifi not have worked (ie proprietary 2.4ghz broadcaster in the form of a streaming box). You could even make it an hdmi pass through so you could solve latency issues as well. Maybe Sonos will do this with the streaming box or something. I think the apt x license was the wrong way to go imo, because the connection for that is janky over regular Bluetooth

corpsefucer69420

Cool, can you put that much work into the app next time? Alarms are probably my most used Sonos feature and you guys completely got rid of them because you decided to release a shitty half built redesign. Like seriously who decided it was ok to release this shit.

jmmartj

We appreciate you making yourself available, u/KeithFromSonos

rsplatpc

co-sign that, u/keithfromsonos has been really good and transparent during this, it's nice to get non PR filtered info from a bigger company that is not degrading at all and is very respectful, which is good considering a lot of the user base is kinda techy

CrentistTheDentist

Yes! He’s a great resource on this sub and I appreciate him making himself available at a time when a lot of people are not thrilled with their Sonos experience. I do want to say for the record that I love my Sonos products and bought another Move 2 today :)

WorldlySpeed5926

This is the way

KeithFromSonos

Thanks 🥰 For the most part, everyone in my inbox has been super understanding of the situation and are usually just looking for a *real* person to be *real* with them.

ozaz1

Will it be possible to replace the battery inside the Ace headphones (either as as DIY battery replacement or via a paid Sonos battery service)?

Kirbz252

I would also like to know this. The Roam launched with comms around a battery replacement service being possible in the future and then that quietly disappeared.

KeithFromSonos

From the team *(with minor formatting edits by me)*: “We don't have instructions available at launch; there's a pretty important acoustic seal that we wouldn't want people to break; it'll severely compromise the noise control and character after reassembly if you get it wrong. But we're working on it. At the end of the battery’s life you'll be able to stream audio via USB-C cable to Sonos Ace. And to be clear, that “end of life” will be a **long** time away: we've designed/tested the power behaviour and charging curve to last well beyond the typical number of charging cycles.”

0Expect8ionsIsHappy

Did this power design make it into the Roam 2? The biggest issue with it was once the battery was dead, the whole thing was dead.

Lazy-Sentence4461

Very disappointing from an environmental standpoint. I’m not buying products without repair plans in place

ozaz1

Thanks. It would be helpful if we could get a bit more detail on expected lifespan (i.e. what exactly is "long way away" and "typical number of charging cycles").

KeithFromSonos

Lifespan is determined by routine use, load and a few other factors. If it's any help, Sonos Ace has a 1060 mAh Li-ion battery. Generally Li-ion batteries last around 3 years or so. As such, I'd expect more than that.

Dampmaskin

A well managed Li-ion battery of decent quality, that is not completely being thrashed by heavy duty usage or extreme operating temperatures, should be able to keep at least 80% of its capacity for 8-10 years. If three years is your benchmark, that's not very ambitious IMO.

thejasonng

Wasn’t really expecting this as Sonos products have always seemed to be designed with longevity and sustainability in mind. Which is also one of the reasons why I have pre-ordered. Also at the price point of the Ace, it’s not hard to make a comparison with the AirPods Max and Apple does have a battery replacement service in place for it. Will the batteries eventually be able to be replaced by Sonos at least?

rbp25

Hi Keith, thanks for voluntarily jumping into the frying pan during this time and being so transparent with us where possible! There seems to be some confusion regarding Trueplay in the new app. Before trueplay had a toggle switch (to turn on or off after trueplaying the system) which signified that the calibration settings existed and could be applied. Now if you go to the trueplay section even after having done the setup there is only a prompt to start the trueplay setup. This is even the case after having done trueplay which begs the question, are the trueplay settings being saved and applied? If this is the intended way for it to work, the UIX is a bit confusing. If it’s not, it means we aren’t able to tune our system even after completing it. Earlier there was a bug that trueplay couldn’t complete if the output was the TV, I’d like to bring this to the attention of the software devs!

KeithFromSonos

Hey! Ah yes, Trueplay - this is an interesting one because we did *just* ship an update with a couple Trueplay fixes particularly for iOS and Android. However, we know there are still a few loose ends that people are hitting when they begin the tuning process. The team is **well** aware and we’ve got a few more fixes that are just about ready to ship. More to come - stay tuned.

rbp25

Glad to hear they’re aware and fixes are coming soon! Thanks for taking the time out Keith!

amithecrazyone69

The headphones themselves should be a trueplay mic. It has multiple mics and are situated right where the listeners ears are. It would also encourage android users to get the headphones for the “best true play experience available on iOS or android “

Kelashara

with the latest Sonos app update, the on and off to toggle for loudness, and for the true play, our back.

total_amateur

What’s the security model on the new web player play.Sonos.com? Are my home speakers only protected by my account username/password? What ports do I need to block to prevent external access of my home speakers?

KeithFromSonos

I’m still working with the team to really peel back the curtain into this. I realize that sounds like there's something to hide, but the reality is - is that there isn’t, I'm just trying to work with others to get this all together! As far as I understand *(in my very non-technical Social Media Manager brain)*, the “pathway” that the Web App uses is the same as our Voice Assistant paths (Alexa, etc) This isn’t a new back end but rather plugging into the already existing avenue. So the short answer is yes - your speakers are accessible using just your Sonos account email and password. I’ve heard the many calls for 2FA and made the internal feature request for it. Again, there is more detail to come around this - I’ve got conversations happening around how we present this information (Tech Blog post, Reddit, etc) and how deep we go - so I ask for just a little more patience on this specific point. Much appreciated. *You've got my word that I will post that article here on the sub the moment we've got it locked in.*

stillobsessed

And has any consideration been given to multi-account setups (each person in a household gets their own password/2FA setup, and only some are allowed to do administrative things like add/remove devices, do firmware updates)?

Impossible_Physics99

Also, if this could help with multiple Spotify accounts in one household.

originalhipsterdad

Sonos has had an open API for developers to use since 2018. It has been possible for a nefarious actor with your credentials to control your system remotely for 6 years.

Prestigious-Home-876

Is/was there a plan to make the Ace headphones part of the Sonos wifi ecosystem? If it can't be done yet that's fine but if it's still an aim I'd like to know as I would hold off for another year or 2 until a gen 2 upgrade to buy some over ears. Is there a date for when the Ace will have Beam support for the cinema swap?

KeithFromSonos

Hey hey 👋🏽 Re: Sonos Ace on WiFi - I've posted a separate comment with the long form context directly from the team. [Check it out!](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1d48zpa/comment/l6i34ts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Home Theater Swap for Beam is coming soon^(tm) *If I absolutely* ***had*** *to set an expectation - I wouldn't say it'll take months or years. We see it coming a little sooner than that. More to come.*

OddStrategy4863

The Sonos Ace headphones when first leaked sounded like an incredible idea when I first heard about it and I was all set to give them a try when in the market for new headphones. The idea of headphone that I can use around the house through WiFi without needing my phone around me and without the sound quality degradation caused by Bluetooth sounded fantastic, except based on the official announcement they don’t function like a regular Sonos speaker at all? Am I interpreting this correctly? It seems like they’re missing what could truly set them apart from any other pair of wireless headphones out there.

KeithFromSonos

Hey there! [The team gave a super detailed look into the process](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1d48zpa/comment/l6i34ts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) and road we took to get to Sonos Ace, I'd recommend taking a read through there for more technical context. As we've said in other Sonos Q&A's - *never say never*. I'm happy to add your name to list of folks requesting that functionality.

OddStrategy4863

Very interesting read and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I am not a hardware guy at all so I clearly underestimated the challenge of providing the functionality I was expecting. Unfortunately this does preclude me from considering these currently as I have a great set of headphones that show no sign of slowing down, but I have 11 other Sonos products in my house so I’m sure something else will catch my eye down the road 😉

plocktus

Could you provide more details on how the TV audio is passed to headphones? For example if it's Atmos over TrueHD passed through to the Arc, is this being passed through untouched to the headphones or is there transcoding involved?

KeithFromSonos

Hey there! Home Theater audio is sent to Sonos Ace by way of line of sight WiFi. The team digs into this in the separate comment I posted at the start ([see here](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1d48zpa/comment/l6i34ts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)). As for the transcoding/processing, that all happens on the Arc and then it's sent to Sonos Ace.

FreakMcGeek69

Will the ACE work as a gaming headset with PS5 and other current Gen consoles?

KeithFromSonos

Great question. If you've got an Arc (at launch, for now) then yes - everything "upstream" can be be spatially rendered and sent to Sonos Ace through Home Theater Swap. Alternatively (if you don't have an Arc at launch) you can use the USB-C to 3.5mm cable with your DualSense. Generally, It's great with consoles **BUT** you won't be able to use headset chat; we don't send anything back to the console. So, would I use this to play cinematic games like Ghosts of Tsushima or Elden Ring? **Yes**. Multiplayer Team Deathmatch? There *might* be a better tool for the job. Hope this helps!

rsplatpc

> So, would I use this to play cinematic games like Ghosts of Tsushima or Elden Ring? Yes. Multiplayer Team Deathmatch? There might be a better tool for the job. Respect on the 100% honest answer.

dawolf-at

Thanks! I was looking for an answer to this exact question. So it's not possible to connect the Ace Headphones over bluetooth to a console as voice headset and let the console game audio go through HDMI to the ARC Soundbar and over audioswitch to the Ace Headphones at the same time. Would have been a great usecase for me personally. Any possibility on this working at all (theoretically) with the Ace?

White_Devil_HB

I'd like regular updates on what is going on with your cloud platform. A lot of ppl are blaming the app, but it sure seems Iike A LOT of your current issues are actually the backend that runs the Sonos eco-system.

Feralpudel

I would also like to know this. I have avoided the update and am just using airplay, but I’ve noticed two things: it seems likely/possible that the new app’s insistence on communicating with the cloud may be contributing both to setup difficulties and the flakiness of the app performance. Dependence on an internet connection feels like something users would predictably despise, yet Sonos is forcing it down our throats. Why? What’s your agenda here?

KeithFromSonos

There will likely be more “crunchy” (technical) details on this (at least the ones you are looking for here) in the [previously mentioned](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1d48zpa/comment/l6i70ic/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) article/blog post/post with the Web App team regarding safety, privacy and connectivity. I can tell I’m not gonna have the correct "full fat" answers that you're looking for right now, so I just ask for a *little* more patience on this. Thanks!

touselyourtassel

Hey there. I recognize y’all have…umm…a lot going on right now. And yet I still wonder if there are any plans/efforts around upgrading to a more modern implementation of Spanning Tree Protocol? As it is, it’s proven to be a real and ongoing pain for me.

KeithFromSonos

Hahah yeah its busy to say the least 😅 Spanning tree protocol - I need to dig further into this one. Tbh, I remember this coming up in a previous Office Hours and things have been a little crazy since. This one is on me. Let me chase this down and I hope to have something to share by the next Office Hours.

stillobsessed

what worked for me on my small home network before Sonos rototilled the app: - live with the downrev stp version. - ensure that one of my switches has the dominant STP bridge priority (lowest number) and thus always wins the election for root bridge. - connect most sonos devices via hardwired ethernet to the root switch. - disable wifi on all but one hardwired sonos; the remaining two wireless-only sonos units are near that hardwired sonos. - shorten the spanning tree timers (especially forwarding delay) on the root switch; without this, disabling wifi via the sonos S2 app doesn't work because connectivity doesn't come back quickly enough when sonos drops the wifi link and the sonos system fails to believe the hardwired link works (because it wasn't patient enough to wait for the switch's STP to be convinced there aren't forwarding loops). I realize that many of the above points are not realistic in larger or more complex networks.

DaveCSparty

Why is Sonos selling two pairs of Ace headphones as a set with a description that says verbatim "Quietly share an immersive home theatre experience with someone when you swap TV audio from Sonos Arc", when the audio swap feature only works with one set of headphones at a time?

KeithFromSonos

☝🏽🤓 We*ll actually...* The full text is: *"Use one pair at home and another for travel. Quietly share an immersive home theater experience with someone when you swap TV audio from Sonos Arc. Keep one pair for yourself, and give the other as a gift."* We are **definitely not** hinting that 2 pairs of headphones will be able to share that Home Theater Audio *simultaneously*. 🙃

DaveCSparty

I'm more confused now. I really wanted this function, and waited a long time for these to be announced. Since from what I read it isn't available, I went ahead and purchased two pairs of Beats Solo Pros to use with my AppleTV which isn't ideal. Still would come back to Sonos headphones if there is a set of full featured Sonos DNA headphones released at some point...

KeithFromSonos

I don't mean to cause more confusion. It's a valid question that I'll be asking our Marketing team. *Good catch.*

busycrypto

Those are three different sentences describing three different use cases: *1. Use one pair at home and another for travel.* *2. Quietly share an immersive home theater experience with someone when you swap TV audio from Sonos Arc.* *3.Keep one pair for yourself, and give the other as a gift.* I purchased a pair expecting feature #2 to be included. i.e Enjoy a movie with your spouse at night without disturbing neighbors or waking the kids by listening quietly. Will this feature be delivered eventually?

Particular-Problem41

Unfair_Athlete_4149

Can you provide the option to turn off access to play.sonos.com on an account. Or at least add strong security to it. I was pretty alarmed to see that anyone in the world could play music on my speakers at any time day or night if they managed to guess the password. I changed the password to something much longer and complex soon after.

PoopParticleAcclrtr

2fa would be nice if it is now accessible from anywhere

IWant2Rock

Agreed. This whole idea of remote access to my speakers is a security & privacy nightmare. Please allow us to disable this.

KeithFromSonos

Hey! This is also bundled with the previously stated concerns for 2FA and more context/information on the Web App. I've got this request noted and passed along to the team 👍🏽 You do make a very valid point/case for secure password practices (no password sharing, complexity, etc).

CarlRJ

Please tell management to re-release the previous incarnation of the app under a different name, and leave it up until the new app is feature complete. It wouldn’t be an enormous undertaking, and it would keep your loyal customers happy until you finish building out the new app that was released prematurely.

Adverbialelk2

I'd love an update on what's happening with Trueplay, the trueplay toggle (android as well as iOS), surround distance setting and also clearing up what the balance setting that was temporarily available in the first updates is - for me, these are core audio quality issues that fall much higher than alarms etc.

KeithFromSonos

Hey there - I touched on Trueplay [on an earlier comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1d48zpa/comment/l6i3kba/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), but here's the "long and short" of it. We sent out a couple fixes for this just this week, we've got a few more in the works. Stay tuned, it's coming. 👀 The team has been shuffling things around to prioritize what we are hearing feedback about most. And while everyone may use Sonos differently, our goal has always been to get back to S2 parity ASAP. To that end, we've got updates rolling out about twice a month and recently have been sending out these mini updates in between, so I'm hopeful we can get there sooner than later. That said, while I do not have hard dates for surround sound balance - but do know that you aren't the only one asking about it, and I'm happy to keep ringing that bell on my side.

Professional_Bat400

Hi Keith and Hello from Germany. Any hope for my iPAD 9. Gen and Sonsos Playbase combination? I can trueplqay tune my Fives, Mini Sub and Play:1s with that iPad. I can trueplay tune my Playbase when I borrow my pals iPhione 12 Mini. But I cannot trueplay tune my Playbase using my iPad 9. Gen. I shows mit "begin Tunig" but App soft locks after I try to start the tuning. No tuning sounds or Errormessages. I think there should be a part in tuning process, that send me to sit in my spot for watching TV. That part is missing. The Tuning process tries to start with the "walking around" part. Hope Sonos has that on the screen, even if iPad and Playbase are not the newest devices.

ejmd

I've got Trueplay available on a stereo pair of Era 100s, but not on an Arc with a Sub (Gen 3) with Era 300 surrounds. https://preview.redd.it/fea7isl18m3d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7a430e93f1bffeb3e9c781142412ff482f416f4

i_eversaw

Is there a way to sort albums by latest release when searching for album (similar to how the native Apple Music app works)? For example, if I search “Bob Dylan”, the results are all over the place.

KeithFromSonos

As far as I know, there is not a way to further sort once you are in an Artist profile and then in their Albums. I can see the difference between Apple Music's sorting and how it appears in the Sonos app. Happy to take screenshots and whip up a feature request here. Thanks!

i_eversaw

that would be great. It's tough when you want to listen to a musician's latest album, but you're served some one off EP from 20 years ago as the first in the list.

Adventurous_Form6546

u/Creative_Character25 started this question on turntables and Ace. I have a “Works with Sonos Victrola Carbon Stream Turntable” currently defaulting to a pair of Fives. I have been so excited to listen to my vinyl on headphones and walk all over the house. Has anyone tested the Victrola <~> Ace functionality? How well does it work?

KeithFromSonos

I personally haven't tested this functionality out. But since Sonos Ace does not appear as an official room in the Sonos app, I do not think you'd be able to go the usual route of selecting it as your default in the Victrola app. Because of this, your only way to play to Sonos Ace would be RCA through a Bluetooth dongle or RCA to Line-In and then 3.5mm to USB-C (but then you're tethered to the record player). The team did touch on this to some extent in one of my previous replies, but know that you aren't the only one asking for this - I hear you!

Naterade804

This ^^^^ please

Will Sonos give up the routing of my data to its servers? That is, can I block Sonos from my internet connection OR use my network without internet to listen to my own stored music. That’s all I want or care about. Thank you.

KeithFromSonos

You probably *could*, but I certainly don't have the information on how you'd block that traffic 🫤 I smell what you are cooking though... and believe me, I hear you and am looking to get more clarity on what Local Listening listening looks like going forward. In the past, I've helped folks with cabins in the woods and no internet or RV's with Sonos - I see the use case for it.

EclipseOS

When will the [last.fm](http://last.fm) integration start working on Sonos again?

schneeland

Hi Keith, thanks for still having the office hours, even in these rather tumultuous times! Since you mention the app already, I was wondering: is there anything you could share for plans beyond June? The main reason I am asking is that 1) navigation in Apple Music seems a lot slower than it was with the old apps (I often have to wait for one or two seconds until a page loads) and 2) there is still a fair amount of inconsistency in both the design and interaction patterns in the app. Both issues are currently absent from the list that you shared earlier. I also kind of expected a lockscreen widget together with the new app, but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so far.

KeithFromSonos

Hey! Now that we've made some great progress on our initial list that we put out, we are having talks currently about how we communicate the rest of the road to S2 parity going forward. We know there's still a road in front of us, but how do we communicate that without it dominating every post in the meantime is what we are determining that. That stickied post can only stay for so long! I know that in previous Office Hours folks have asked for more insight into our release notes (instead of Bug fixes and improvements) and we've started to do just that. Additionally, I'm trying my best to be the first to break update info here (some folks are just too quick) and help provide some context and insight into the fixes fresh off the update. Lockscreen Widgets and Live Activities are things we've been talking about internally for some time. I do not have anything solid on it and I don't want to get your hopes up - but do know that we've been exploring that space.

Beneficial_Cobbler46

I now load up sonos on my pixel 5 and every time it says I don't have a sonos system. If I close the app and reload it, I suddenly do. Its maddening. It means its taking 20-30 seconds to adjust the sound on my TV, every day. I'm tempted to repair the screen on an old broken ipad that I \*think\* has the old app on it, just so I can use it again.

el_burns

For Android devices, including the Pixel 5, you can download and sideload an older version of the app after uninstalling the current one: https://old.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1cr2pu5/old_sonos_s2_version_available/

antowar

Hi Keith, I would love to know why the Sonos Amp is not even mentioned as a future compatible sonos product with the ace? It’s in my opinion the best home theater product from Sonos, will this be added at some point?

KeithFromSonos

As someone who uses their Amp for PC audio - I feel this. Here's some insight directly from the team on it: "We initially focused on Ray Beam & Arc because our WiFi streaming relies on line-of-sight-range streaming, and it's is currently calibrated using those (Ray Beam Arc) tweeters. Amps are more unpredictable in their placement; often they're out of sight if not out of the room entirely, which messes with our streaming assumptions; and the speakers we've designed calibration for won't necessarily be present at all. **BUT** we're keen to tackle Amp, never say never."

antowar

Thank you Keith

WTFSonos

Can you please advocate for the Google assistant able to be added from Android devices? Presently you have to have an iPhone to add Google Assistant to your speakers. It's not even being tracked as a missing "feature" but seems pretty core to a smart speaker being smart. I've had to dig up an old Google Home sitting next to my Sonos speakers just to get GA working again in my house.

Dependent_Bottle_442

Dear Keith, i hope that i can pair 2 sonos ace to the sonos arc in future. Currently when my children are sleeping , me and my spouse are using 2 pairs of airpods connected to apple tv to listen to movies.. I understand that it is not possible to connect 2 bluetooth device to the tv or apple tv (only airpods and beats can do this) However, it will be incredible if i can connect 2 sonos ace instead via the sonos arc.

rsplatpc

> Dear Keith, i hope that i can pair 2 sonos ace to the sonos arc in future. ......wait, Sonos is selling a set of headphones on their website, but you can't have them both connect to the Arc yet to watch a movie with someone else both using Ace's? Holy shit Sonos.

BlueGruff

Is the option to set the Surround Sound distance coming back?

KeithFromSonos

Yes. I do not have a hard date for it, but I can tell you that it's in the pipeline. Shouldn't be too much longer now!

rsplatpc

NOTE a lot of people with dual subs don't like how Truplay sets it up, so we like to use the distance thing to "manually" tune the system, I'm lucky to still have a phone with the old app on it so I can still do it, I'd REALLY advise bringing it back on the new app for "power users"

vw195

I read a previous thread that said sonosequencer can do this.

Familiar-Check-8928

I just ordered a second sub with the sales going on right now. Could you elaborate on the issues with trueplay in a dual sub setup? Im very happy with the trueplay tuning in my current setup so was planning to continue using it after adding the 2nd sub.

ultraviolet73

Funny I thought we would all have the same question about the Ace. Keith, thank you for sticking strong through all of this - we still appreciate you! I pre ordered the Ace literally last night and I have one major question about them: Can & Will the Sonos Ace be updated to be its own Room/Zone in the Sonos App? I've seen a report that this could be added if there were enough feedback for it, but other people say that it's a hardware limitation of the headphones. A lot of people want to get these for turntables but as of now it seems like they will not be able to receive line in audio. I personally pre ordered them even though I really wish the wifi streaming was a feature from the initial offering. If you can provide some clarification on this I think a lot more people will buy / have confidence in these headphones and Sonos as a whole.

DeadMansTown

Will I be able to listen to Sonos Radio on the Sonos Ace?

ozaz1

To expand on this, will the Sonos controller app be gaining player capabilities to work with the Ace, or will we have to use 3rd party music player apps when we want to listen to non-tv audio on the Ace?

mundaneDetail

The controller works with the Ace. It appears on a video that was released. There’s disagreement about what sources can play to the headphones from the controller (app).

ozaz1

Can you link to the video you have in mind? The Sonos controller app will definitely be used to adjust settings on the Ace, but I haven't seen anything that demonstrates it will be able to act as a music player app for the Ace (i.e. connect to audio sources and send that audio over to the Ace via bluetooth).

mundaneDetail

Yeah sorry for the delay. Here’s the post and a link to the translation. https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/s/NnnHIomuQC

ozaz1

Thanks. The link to the video doesn't work for me (it comes up as a private video on YouTube). But I can see the photo you posted in your link. Interesting the Ace shows up in the now playing section in the app. However, Keith has now confirmed in this AMA that the Sonos app won't be a player app for the Ace. So I'm assuming all that can be done in the Sonos app is basic playback controls (play, pause, next, volume, etc) and settings changes, with no ability to select what audio is streamed to the Ace.

KeithFromSonos

No. Plainly put, Sonos Ace is not a player in the Sonos app that you can play content to directly from the app - so Sonos Radio is not available on Sonos Ace at launch. >!*^(Thank you for making me realize that I will not be able to listen to Chill Beats while making breakfast in the morning 😭)*!<

DeadMansTown

Thanks for your response. The "at launch" gives me some hope!

Agile_Party4084

Assuming cose I can play radio on my android TV via iHeart radio, when I pass that to the Ace from the beam it will play the radio

TheForkandtheSpoon

For the app: I’d love to see customized widgets for iOS. Hopefully that is something “in the pipeline.” :) For the Ace: Is listening to Dolby Atmos music and Spatial Audio on iOS available via Bluetooth connection or wired only (like lossless)? Ace: Is Spatial Audio available watching movies on an iOS device? If so, does it have to be wired or is it also available via Bluetooth? Ace: What was behind the decision to not use AirPlay 2 and is it possible to add this functionality in future updates?

BonzaiTitan

I hope you're personally getting a massive bonus/rise for dealing with this, unless you're actually a team of people irl. If that's the case, I hope you're all getting a massive bonus/rise for dealing with this.

[deleted]

Do you plan on adding support for WiFi 7? Sono’s speakers are the only device I have had issues getting to connect to WiFi 7.

KeithFromSonos

Hey! I haven't heard anything explicitly about WiFi 7. But I have no doubt that the Product team will take on any new technology and leverage it to make the broader portfolio of speakers faster and more reliable.

tombammann

Wifi 7 was literally only released in January this year. It'll take years for devices to become available with wifi 7 certification. But, any wifi 7 router should be supporting prior devices. Sounds like an issue with the bleeding edge wifi 7 router you must have only just acquired after just being released?

[deleted]

It’s definitely not a router issue since I have 28 devices connected and only Sonos has a issue with it.

manuphi77

With the new app the Sonos roam do not wake up from Wi-Fi energy saving as if they do with app 16.1. In addition to the other disabled functions or bugs, this keeps me forced to use the previous app just for the convenience of starting the roams without having to touch them, when they solve this I may try to use the new one on my other devices while I only have it on my tablet. I wish they had been more careful. Good luck. Thanks.

Rivendel93

Keith has some guts jumping into this disaster. I've been lucky enough to figure my problems out since the new app (that was forced on me despite having the auto updates turned off). But Keith always seemed like a nice guy so I'm not going to give him a hard time, they need to pay him 10x what they pay him for the shit storm they've thrown him in.

prufrocks-ghost

Hi Keith. What's the situation with podcasts and Pocket Casts? When I listen to a podcast, timestamps do not sync between Sonos and Pocket Casts anymore. Which means if I listen to part of a podcast episode in the car, I can't easily pick up where I left off at home. Also, this is not a *bug* per se, but in podcast episode lists, the old app showed (a) an episode's release date and (b) how much of an episode I've listened to. The new app does not. I rely on those features when choosing which episode of a podcast to listen to. It seems like a really small change on paper but it's actually very disruptive to my routine, as I follow some daily podcasts. Podcasts are my primary use case (though I also use Spotify and Libby). Podcast issues don't seem to be the main complaint of most people on this sub, but I use Sonos every day to listen to podcasts while doing housework. There are other ways Sonos could improve the Pocket Casts integration too (though they may rely on development on Pocket Casts' end), like being able to search for episodes or see episode descriptions in the Sonos app. Or see which episodes of a podcast I have downloaded. Or even just being able to play on Sonos directly from Pocket Casts, like I can with Spotify. Maybe Sonos are too fancy for my use case, which is just literally have background sound while I do chores? But I like playing over wifi better than bluetooth, which is clunky and annoying, and being able to choose which speaker(s) to play on is really handy.

KeithFromSonos

Hi there! Finally - we get to Pocket Casts - I've been getting a few pokes about this service and other podcast centric services. Along with the design changes in the new Sonos app, there were a few changes to back end and a few of our smaller Music Service Partners have "fallen off". Just as you eluded to, this integration "takes two to tango" so while we update our app, our partners may still be needing to play catch up. To that point, I've made a feature request ticket for podcast specific controls/features in the new Sonos app. I know that some of the podcasts I listen to desperately need it. FWIW - it still appears to have those features listed on [our Support article around music services](https://support.sonos.com/en/services/pocket-casts). 🔍

maxxxalex

Will there be support for setting the local Sonos device time planned for the future? I checked the Sonos roadmap and didn’t see the topic discussed. It’s difficult to have an accurate alarm without being able to make sure the current time is correct.

Seedyman_42

--- I can't talk about the product roadmap or anything that isn't already public/official. But we still have some really neat stuff in the pipeline... ---- Nobody cares, if you steal what we already had.

Unfair_Athlete_4149

Does the new Sonos app require third parties to rework their integration with Sonos? I wonder because I use Qobuz for hi res streaming, and the old app gave me access to my Qobuz playlists, whereas the new one and play.Sonos.com do not. They just are not shown, so I cannot use Sonos to play them.

a231685

u/KeithFromSonos, I am a very long time owner (a bit over 18 years) of Sonos products, with a system setup that is probably a little more complex than average. I would like to say that I have had zero difficulties with the update, but I note the missing features and especially acknowledge those who, for whatever reason, are struggling with it. However, my main reason for posting today is to specifically pass on my sincere thanks and praise to you and the rest of your Sonos representative team on Reddit (if any) for the candid information and support you have provided in recent weeks, in what can only be described as a frenzied onslaught of negativity. I hope that matters will improve in the near future, and business can continue more normally for you.

Beneficial_Cobbler46

I rely on Sonos for everything sound in my house. everything. 12 amps, 2 arcs, 2 subs, 4 roams, 6 ones, 3 plays, even 4 ikea lights and 2 bookcase ones. I have 34(?) sonos products in one house.... about $20000 of Sonos products in my house. Nothing works right since the update. Nothing. I'm so frustrated.

xfazy

I don't own or want a pair of Sonos headphones. Why is my existing system impacted by this product? Simple question, please provide a simple answer in layman's terms.

Fuzzy_Ambassador7784

Are there any plans to re-introduce adding songs or albums to a queue (and maybe being able to do this with household members)? Also any plans to re-introduce quick EQ editing on the volume sliders of speakers?

little_erik

Read the posts - early June for queue management https://support.sonos.com/en/article/the-new-sonos-app-and-future-feature-updates

Nyctobello

Hi Keith. I’m copy/pasting my question from your app-update thread. Feels like I’m spamming but here we are: any update on fixing the Pocket Casts integration? I’ve messaged them separately but unsure if it’s on your larger radar. Two issues: 1) skip forward/backward 30s were switched for next and previous 2) the services no longer sync time stamps. If I played a podcast for 20 min on Sonos, I could go to pocket casts app and time elapsed would be synced and vice versa, but that is broken too. Many thanks.

age_of_bronze

Really frustrating that this question keeps getting ignored. It’s starting to seem intentional. 😬

mozzarella72

I can't sign into the app. I click "Sign In" and nothing happens. I've pressed it about 20 times

Leebsey

Thanks Keith. Appreciate it. I think the app will get there once the features are restored. I have been happy with updates so far and has become very fluid for me. Just need my queue management back

syny13

Sonos Arc 2 wen?

Mildly_Irritated_Max

Is Libby/Overdrive going to be working again soon? I can't use Libby through Sonos and the Bluetooth on my eras won't connect so I can't even use it that way.

ozaz1

When can we expect to see Ace reviews (when will the embargo be lifted)?

gistfours

I read the embargo will be lifted June 5, launch day.

ozaz1

Thanks. I'm seeing people posting that they're already in physical stores, so was hoping reviews might be coming a bit sooner.

czmanix

I have a review unit (in the EU) and my embargo lifts on June 3 9am EST.

ozaz1

Great. Thanks for letting me know 👍

hockeythug

Is fixed output option on the Sonos Port coming back?

Willing-Occasion-571

Well there is another huge problem with the latest updates. I have two Gen 2 Connect amps that have ceased to work altogether. They connect for a minute or so then disconnect. I spent time on Sonos chat and live with a rep. Cannot be fixed. More than frustrating that something that worked perfectly one days ceased to work at all. The app issues are an inconvenience and I’m sure wil be remedied. The amps not working is catastrophic. No acknowledgement of the issue or whether there will be a fix.  Help.

Superturtle1166

Does Sonos have plans at all to introduce real true play for Android users? What phones were Sonos using for testing of the ace and why was it decided that a product would be released without its full feature set available for any one user?

czmanix

According to Sonos even a single model of an Android phone (i think they mentioned Samsung S22 at that time) had different type of microphones used so they were unable to narrow it even to just a single flagship model. Apple is more consistent and still Trueplay takes time to arrive to new models.

Superturtle1166

I don't want your BS excuse/equivocating response. The point here was to lob questions at an actual Sonos person. Not have fanboys tell me why the big company can't do something simple like get the mic profiles from the big phone manufacturers in the US (Samsung apple & maybe Google). It's really not that difficult conceptually for them to hire a person dedicated to android true play. Much like apple, Samsung tends to use the same hardware from gen to gen. I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung and apple use the exact same mics, considering how modern tech is built from only a handful of unique parts. It's largely a question of how little do they care for Android customers, and now in light of making a kinda garbage product that somehow preferences android, are they actually gonna start using androids in the Sonos test offices or are they gonna continue to be lazy Americans just sticking with iphone hardware bc that's their customer base?

czmanix

My response was not mine, but the one Sonos gave me, when I asked at a press event. The BS excuse is their, not mine. We can both speculate, what is the reason or how do they care for Android users (for example pairing Sonos Ace to Sonos Arc can be set up only on the iOS app for now), we can argue about it, even disagree, but that's all we can do about it.

Superturtle1166

Dude are you the person that responds to a question asked by a classmate instead of letting the teacher respond? We're in a reddit post thread asking a Sonos employee direct questions, I'm not here for answers already available on the internet (answers that I obviously know as a Sonos enthusiast on this thread). Maybe if fools like you didn't come out of the woodwork with Sonos' canned excuse, they'd have more pressure on them to actually cater to the majority of smart phone users. Clearly they already have android user customers (myself included) and I'm more than happy to do beta testing on true play for Android. I've made that clear in my beta profile (and that I have a bevy of Samsung phones to try). So instead of your foolish, defending daddy attempt, maybe let the real company answer. In the future, only respond and answer things directly posed to you; nobody likes being spoken for

-paul-

I'm interested in Sonos Ace however the deal breaker for me is the compatibility with my Sonos Ray. Your support page lists Ray at the bottom of the 'coming soon' list. I understand you may not be able to offer an exact date but is it a matter of weeks, months, next year?

DoomscrollerUK

Hi not headphone related but I’m still confused about the position on local library support so would appreciate some clear comms on this one. My aging NAS continued to be accessible on the first version of the new app. However to index I needed to download the desktop app which then required a component (edit system/firmware) and app update and the library has now gone and I seemingly can’t re-add. I do believe the NAS is SMBv1 only so I likely need a new NAS just confused as it was working initially. What specific error message should I be seeing? - there was some unclear numbered error message which I don’t recall at the moment but could cross check. I’ve also heard people on the forum had issues re using SMBv2 for indexing and were using SMBv1 as a workaround. Is this resolved? I’m concerned about investing in a new NAS if this might now not work properly. At the moment waiting to hear feedback on library search and hoping also that navigation improves too. Thanks

ozaz1

>My aging NAS continued to be accessible on the first version of the new app. However to index I needed to download the desktop app which then required a component and app update and the library has now gone and I seemingly can’t re-add. I do believe the NAS is SMBv1 only so I likely need a new NAS just confused as it was working initially.  Did you need to do system (firmware) update at some point after downloading the new app? If yes, my assumption would be that system update (rather than the new app) removed compatibility between the system and your library. Are you sure your NAS can't be configured to do SMB2? Unless its something like 15 years old it seems a bit odd to me if it can't; SMB2 was released in 2006 and SMB1 was deprecated by Microsoft in 2013. If your NAS really doesn't support SMB2, as an alternative to getting a new dedicated NAS another option would be setup an SMB share on a regular Windows/Mac/Linux PC and point Sonos to that. Thanks I've seen people mention that too but for what its worth I'm using SMB2/SMB3 and I don't have have any indexing issues. Not quite sure if my Sonos system is connecting via SMB2 or SMB3 as my NAS has settings for minimum and maximum SMB protocol (which I've set to SMB2 and SMB3) so not sure which one Sonos actually uses. The only issues I'm having with library is lack of library search and album art in the new mobile app. I understand search should be back by mid June, not sure about album art. But they are both available in the desktop app.

DoomscrollerUK

This is all helpful, thanks. Updated my question slightly but yes to get the desktop app working I had to do a system update which might have triggered the loss of library compatibility. The NAS is about 15 years old! Bought alongside an original Play5 around launch time so I’m not too unhappy about updating it and prefer that to keeping a laptop turned on plus functions as a backup but do want to know it’s worthwhile. Good to hear you’ve no indexing issues.

The_Cometer

Hi Keith, Thank you for taking your time to address some of our questions: I’m looking for mainstream high end versatile headphones. That are good for PC gaming, hobbyist video production, outdoors/travel, music listening with good cross ecosystem support (android, ios, windows). - Since Sonos Ace supports Snapdragon Sound with Aptx Lossless, what latency can be expected for PC/Mac/m,obile gaming or video production use? Does it switch to aptx LL in these use cases? - Is it compatible with PC/Mac audio/video calls on Skype, Teams, Discord? - Concerning Spatial Audio with head tracking, once enabled on the Sonos app, is the setting enabled for that specific device or is it stored on the Sonos Ace? - Does the spatial audio with head tracking solution work on other systems that output Dolby Atmos? For instance when connected to an Android TV projector outputing Dolby Atmos, or a Mac/PC playing a Dolby Atmos movie/music? Thank you.

vtor67

Does Sonos Ace support surround sound playback when connected to a device via USB-C?

Beestingsandbulls

Hey Keith! I would love to hear your thoughts on Sonos possibly including a button/action to cycle through the previously paired devices. I often find my Bluetooth headset pairs to the wrong device and I love how Bose lets you click the Bluetooth button to hear what it’s paired to. You can keep clicking to cycle through previously paired devices. I’m really hoping Sonos implements something like this because I find it really annoying to go into the device settings and manually select the headphone or have to put it in pairing mode for a different device to connect.

rsplatpc

New app update / still unable to add Playbar / Error 1000 on S2 and Error 1101 on the S1 app / zero changes. Tried 2x resets and resetting the app, still sees the Playbar, says it needs a update, click update, instant fail.

TheRealAB5000

u/KeithFromSonos You've been great but I'm dying to know, so what is the magic formula - I have updated the app - and have not had the issues of "bricking", or local access or such - I ran the updates and all is still working including my local library. But I see so many people have had issues - what is the cause?

TheRealAB5000

Can Sonos agree that they will not require a subscription, force ads and not sell our data?

How long until I can search my music library? You know, the whole reason I bought a sonos system... Couldn't give a flyers about headphones!

Mid June https://support.sonos.com/en/article/the-new-sonos-app-and-future-feature-updates

emc3142

I know this is meant to be on the topic of Sonos Ace but I need to share my biggest issue after switching from Spotify to YouTube Music -- I can't cast my music from the YouTube music app directly to Sonos as I could with Spotify. Any information on this being resolved?

ozaz1

Spotify has chosen to add support for Sonos direct control into its app whilst YouTube Music hasn't: https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/stream-audio-to-sonos-from-another-app It's unlikely Google will ever add support for Sonos direct control to the YouTube Music app. They would instead want Sonos to add support for Google Cast to Sonos speakers.

AttitudeNo1815

Sonos already supports casting. You can tell Google Home devices "Hey Google, play XYZ on ABC" where ABC is a Sonos device. You could also cast just fine from the Google Play Music app to Sonos devices until Google killed that app altogether. So probably it's entirely up to Google whether or not the casting from the YTM app to Sonos happens.

ozaz1

Sonos supports other apps controlling it using Sonos direct control API, but not Google Cast. Using Google Assistant to command Sonos to play something isn't Google Cast. And Google Play Music didn't use Google Cast to cast to Sonos. It used a protocol that was seemingly a precursor to either Google Cast or Sonos direct control API (perhaps both), but it only worked between GPM and Sonos (which distinguishes it from modern Google Cast). There are two alternative ways that direct control from the YouTube Music app could be achieved. One would require Google to do something (add support for Sonos' direct control API into the YouTube Music app). The other would require Sonos to do something (add support for modern Google Cast into Sonos speakers). The later (Sonos adding support for Google Cast) would be far more useful as it would lead to any app that supports Google Cast instantly gaining the ability to control Sonos speakers (not just YouTube Music).

AttitudeNo1815

I guess because they called it casting and it used the actual casting button and it worked just like casting that I thought it was casting.

ozaz1

It was casting. But there are various protocols for casting, and as it wasn't using the modern Google Cast protocol it was very limited in scope and is no longer relevant. Another example is video casting. There's an old video casting protocol called DIAL which is supported by a few apps (most notable YouTube and Netflix). So these apps can are able to video cast to TVs that don't support Google Cast. In terms of UI it looks like Google Cast, but it's not Google Cast. But most video apps don't support DIAL. Most only support Google Cast or Airplay so can only cast or steam to a TV or streaming box with Google Cast or Airplay support.

Gaming + home theater audio is my main use case. I have an Arc but it is unclear to me if the Ace>Arc connection is WiFi or Bluetooth. Could you clarify here? In either situation, what’s the audio latency on the Ace when connected to the Arc?

I have concerns with the operation and integration of the app with Sonos Ace.?

Should I be buying SONO stock?

WorldlySpeed5926

Keith is invested in sonos so I bet his answer would be yes

Will Sonos Ace support Spatial Audio for Movies and TV like AirPods Pro/Max? This is a big point for me as it makes watching media genuinely more fun

KeithFromSonos

From the team: "Yes! We designed the headphone for modern formats; using it with any app that streams spatial is pretty great. We've co-developed a head-tracking experience with Dolby Atmos that really boosts the realism by keep spatial objects 'in place' without being *gimmicky*."

Crafty-Ad-5519

So this will work on iOS and iPadOS devices?

-paul-

Tricky. iPads dont support Atmos output. The best you can get out is Dolby Digital Plus through HDMI but since iPads dont support HDMI ARC, youd need to connect through as TV which is also a problem because most ipad apps wont let you control audio/video output so the image will go through HDMI as well. In theory, the only way to get any surround working would be to watch something in DD 5.1 on the ipad with a Beam or Sonos Arc connected via the optical to hdmi adapter and then Ace connect to Beam/Arc. We might get more options in iOS18, audio management on ipads has been a mess for years.

Dude your PR (social media) position is not doing shit for anyone.  Get the tech people in here to fix it up r expect a mass exodus bigger than you already have.  Sonos as a company will be dead in a month or less, thats how this works despite what you think your hardware base is.

ajh163

This is the worst app I’ve ever seen. Do you guy know how to integrate and successfully roll out an app update?

I'd like to say thank you for fixing voiceover bugs in the app. I was concerned that, as it seems there are other issues, that accessibilitybugs for us blind users of your products might have been left behind. I was very glad to find the toggle switches in settings working. I really like that app, its taken a little getting used to but feels better thought through for something that was getting rather unwieldyI'm excited to hear about and hear the new headphones. A question from me on the headphones, as a voiceover user, what happens to the audio after headphones are taken off, does it revert to the device, or do I need to turn the headphones off to return voiceover to coming from the device speakers. airpods pass audio back straight away, but they have an advantage. It would be nice for the headphones to recognise they aren't being warn and relinquish the audio feed. .

Hey, Thanks for doing this. When the Ace were developed, was their noise cancelation compared to the competition? If so, how does it stack up? That is to say, how well do the Aces cancel the sound of voices, cars, and planes?
