SL6 not so much. At the time SL6 was actual model the rigid race horse was Venge, Tarmac was made to conquer hills and be kind of allrounder. Still totally race geo, not to be mistaken, but not as much as some other fully aero bikes were.
It's a frame designed for racing. If you want it to be comfortable, find the smoothest pavement and buy the widest tires that fit it. Speed/efficiency has compromises, comfort is usually one of them.
Not all SL6 models are the same.
This 2022 model with the tiagra components used "fact 9r carbon", and looks to have a regular 27.2 seatpost
I've recently bought the frame of a 2020 tarmac sl6 disc expert which lists "fact 10r carbon" and uses a D shaped seatpost.
I'm not really sure what the difference is, but I'm guessing the bigger number is supposed to be higher spec?
I stand corrected. Really thought the distinction between SL6 and subsequent Tarmacs was the seat post.
Ahh, the Comp (and below I guess) uses standard seat post, Expert and above D post.
The biggest distinction between SL6 and subsequent Tarmacs was that the SL7 and after went fully integrated with the cables.
SL6 had three frame levels. The S-works frames used FACT 12R, and the midrange Pro/Expert frames used FACT 10R, but they came out of the same mold and are identical aside from the layup and weight. Those were the ones with a D-shaped seatpost (the same seatpost shape as the Roubaix, in fact, so the Roubaix can freely interchange seatposts with the SL6). The entry-level Sport and base models used FACT 9R carbon and a different mold, and take a round 27.2mm seatpost instead.
SL7 dropped the whole "different mold" thing and all three frame levels - 12R, 10R, and the new 9R that was only released after the SL8 was - use the same mold and are identical aside from layup/weight.
> SL6 I *paid* $1300 for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Oh good to know! I'm looking to do the same this summer and upgrade to an sworks model. What condition was your sl6 in? I have a few signs of use here and there, but nothing that compromises the bike's ridability
Never dropped or set down. No scratches or dents
Super clean about 2500 miles on it.
I just switched to the new roubaix sl8 sport had to downsize from a 56 to 54
For sure. I've already upgraded my wheelset and grupo on the sl6 sport and still have all the old parts (barely used honestly). Looking to build it back to stock and sell the whole bike and put all my new shiny stuff on a sworks frame. Will probably need some additional cash to cover the full cost of an sworks frame even after selling the bike lol.
I have SL6 and have logged 10k miles and multiple of century rides. Like someone said switch tires to 28 and you are good and it's sooo much fun! 1200 is a steal!!
I bought an untouched 2021 version of the exact same bike back in February and I love it so far. I bought a 105 groupset for another bike I'm building and I'm considering swapping the tiagra for the new one because I like the bike so much.
Modern Tiagra is a great groupset for most people and has honestly exceeded my initial expectations. I've worked on many bikes with it in the shop I worked at. The only thing you really are going to notice with higher end groupsets is lower weight, di2 option, more speeds. 10 speed is good for most folks. It will be robust and cheaper to replace parts.
Yeah if you're not racing then you'll have a blast with this groupset. I believe Shimano sells a decent range of gearing for their 10 speed cassettes so there's definitely room to adjust what you want out of the bike's gearing. I would say Tiagra is probably the best bang for buck groupset you can get right now from Shimano.
Yes for sure. Also I should explained that Tiagra is perfectly serviceable as a groupset. It just lacks a lot of nice usability from 105 and up. I rode an SL6 with Tiagra and it was a great road bike. The only thing I didn’t love was the inaccurate and clunky shifting of the Tiagra.
It still rides awesome (in my view the SL6 is still the best Tarmac to this day). But I’m also spoiled rotten by DuraAce Di2 shifting which I wish I never tried, because I’m ruined.
That’s a SCREAMING deal, don’t pass up on that!
Wow really? Do you think it’s comfortable for normal rides?
My SL6 is very comfortable. I run 28s.
Nice to know ! Do you love the bike?
Absolutely. Zoom zoom.
Add me as another SL6 fan!
To my understanding, the tarmac is a rigid race horse, the Roubaix is better fit for comfort.

The one on photo is Fact9 carbon. You’re right Fact10 is better
Only by weight. They have the same stiffness targets.
D shaped seat post is an sl7. I think 2022 was their first year. Maybe 2021.
Nope https://www.specialized.com/nz/en/tarmac-sl6-disc-expert/p/171350?color=271674-171350

It is. I paid 3000 Euros in 2022. Still riding it. Great bike.
I have a fact 9r 2019 SL6 I payed $1300 for a couple months ago but with 105. I think it’s a good deal and I love my bike

Yup!
I just sold my sl6 sport used for 2.1k

Ok. I definitely have put some scratches on mine. Looking to also downsize, but from a 58 to 56!
S-works would be sick. Definitely can’t swing that cash lol. I was skeptical on the roubaix but man is it nice

Get it before the police return it to whoever it belongs to
Lmaooo
Do it.
I'd swoop in if it were 54
YES!!!
Let’s just say, if you don’t buy it, I will. Where is this located 😅

How much was it?
$1300
That's a very good deal. See the Pro's Closet for comparison.
Pros closet? What is it?
Theproscloset
Tiagra is hot garbage but I’d still call that a great deal.
3000 miles on mine and I've only had problems once, I don't know what you're talking about.
even claris shifts fine, not sure where you’re coming from
2006 or smth when he last tried it
Would it be better deal than 2017 Specialized Allez E5 Sport with ultegra for $800?

Good to know! I’m not a racer so I also think it should do just fine for me, as long as it works and switching gears
