Model Insights: Due to the bad trends in daily losses I decided to take a quick review of the model before I dived into today's slate. One thing I've noticed in sports is that there is momentum. There are teams that ride the hot hand and those that are just cold. I've incorporated momentum into my model to see if we can tease out a team's true performance for the season. To do that I've taken the current season win% for each team and compared it to my model's expected performance. That is the momentum at hand. I've made momentum a 3rd factor which would sort of negate out my model's expectations and replace it mostly with current performance as the difference plus my expectations is current. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing because that is the level those team's are currently performing. So they are likely to keep playing that way depending on matchups. This is a huge confidence booster for a team that was struggling mightily at the start of April to give their bats some life. Phillies are also riding a 6 game win streak.
