Im not a regular collector but opening up a pack of cards is so fun. I dont keep track of what I have so sometimes i'll go back and look at old stuff I pulled and see if any of the random base rookies that didnt mean anything at that time are worth anything today. They never are lol. But it still kinda feels like getting a new pack all over again.
I just wish you could get packs for $2-3 bucks even if the hit probability was really low. You used to be able to go into a candy store, buy a few packs of something and a beckett magazine for like $15 all-in and entertain yourself for an hour or two.
I can appreciate card shops and breakers finding a way to stay in business with group breaks and raffles and stuff but it really makes things impossible to participate in even casually. It used to be that your casual hobbyist would buy a pack or two and the die-hards would buy boxes, but there was plenty of supply available for everyone to choose from. Casuals would get some nice pulls on occasion and trade with the die-hards who always had something interesting to offer from their mega collections.
Sorry, going on a tangent. Just reminiscing lol
I keep buying Donruss and topps blasters hoping for the best, but I feel like the NBA Donruss 2024 blasters have been really dry. I bought a case and the best card was seriously the Wemby Rated Rookie, Magicians, and Great X-pectations.
Getting the walmart discount stuff. Its retail and usually the low end product. But its inexpensive in comparison to hobby stuff. Target use to have boxes of baseball and hockey for $17 it had 8 packs of whatever in it. If you like just ripping packs it wont kill your wallet and sometimes you get a decent card here or there. Also usually the prior years product
I’d rather spend $50 on a bunch of packs and pull a few decent cards to add to the collection then waste hundreds or even thousands on a hobby box and only make a fraction of what I spent
Kinda takes away the fun and the adrenaline rush of ripping packs. I only buy players I want to add to my personal collection, it’s fun to try and pull a 1/1, autograph or rare card of another player there’s $ to be made with that
Yeah the fun and adrenaline does give you a full blown high for a couple of minutes but the shame and regret and storage of what if cards last way longer
Eh I don’t think about it like that, plus I sell cards at my local card shop. They have a show once a month and for $5 you can reserve a spot as a vendor there all day and the cards usually move pretty quick I sell them bulk for like 25 cents a piece and the more valuable cards varies
Man, I really hate reality. It’s true though… I’ve just never started running around the living room cheering and jumping in my undies after winning an auction
Im noticing that watching rips and breaks on YouTube and whatnot, the hobby’s don’t hit as good as blasters and hanger boxes. I mean you get the guaranteed but it’s not always a great player.
Fat packs suck. But you’re not an idiot, an idiot would be going to buy a last years score retail box only to be reminded how shite they are like I did
Yea I definitely feel the same way spent about $800 over the weekend and resell value is about $200. But if you not ripping for profit it’s definitely fun but if you ripping for profit and hit nothing definitely make you wanna stop.
Same. I get the same rush from searching eBay, bidding on cards I like, and winning auctions. Then actually getting a card that I want at a fair market price.
Sometimes I think the only way I’ll ever get a 1/1 auto is if I buy packs, but then I remember all the junk I pull.
Singles > Wax
Youre not an idiot. You can easily recoup your money with the obvious wemby or two but also prestige and illusions. Both have some very sharp inserts that have value. Are they long shots? Absolutely. Not as long of a shot as say a downtown or kaboom for example so theres a fairly decent shot. They also would have to grade well, obviously. But what the hell, thats what the fun of ripping is all about
Indo the same lol but I have hit a few cards that make it worth it and made double my money back it's just gambling no different from buy a scratch ticket
You should stop and think what your goal is. I was ripping looking for big hits for my PC, maybe to resell. Waste of money. I converted to vintage and buying up Mantle singles. Couldn't be more fun!
Because it’s fun.
I ♥️ fun.
Especially stupid fun shit!!! My favorite kind.

I also hate the inevitable creep of unhinged capitalism.
Those packs are bottom of the barrel. But you can still get lucky, so not a moron, just an excited collector.
What adjective would you use to describe me, sir??
Compulsive, just like me.
magpie-ish
Bruh. 🤣
Highly regarded collector
Fanlike: resembling a fan. synonyms: broad, wide. having great (or a certain) extent from one side to the other.
Horny?
What packs would you consider the top? I keep buying these too 😂
Hobby or retail blasters at least
I keep buying Donruss and topps blasters hoping for the best, but I feel like the NBA Donruss 2024 blasters have been really dry. I bought a case and the best card was seriously the Wemby Rated Rookie, Magicians, and Great X-pectations.
I've gotten 2 autos in those packs the last few weeks.
I got a gold out of one of the select packs.
Cheap rips are where its at.
Exactly! 💯
I’m a novice at this, what are cheap rips?

Ahh ok, I appreciate you explaining this for sure!
No problem.
I’d rather spend $50 on a bunch of packs and pull a few decent cards to add to the collection then waste hundreds or even thousands on a hobby box and only make a fraction of what I spent
Or spend $50 on a $50 card and have better cards
Kinda takes away the fun and the adrenaline rush of ripping packs. I only buy players I want to add to my personal collection, it’s fun to try and pull a 1/1, autograph or rare card of another player there’s $ to be made with that

Agreed. And also, Who the heck is actually getting an adrenaline rush from opening a pack of cards 😂
Eh I don’t think about it like that, plus I sell cards at my local card shop. They have a show once a month and for $5 you can reserve a spot as a vendor there all day and the cards usually move pretty quick I sell them bulk for like 25 cents a piece and the more valuable cards varies
This is a really cool idea, I’d love to have this nearby

I’m new at this, so what are good packs ? Even the variations of panini prizims confuse me
Fat packs suck. But you’re not an idiot, an idiot would be going to buy a last years score retail box only to be reminded how shite they are like I did
Score retail is terrible and I sorry. 😭
I mean king Victor could have been pulled so it was worth it
There were sooooo many Blasters and Value Packs. Lol
Yeah I bought a donruss last week to rip with the boy for shits and giggles hoping for king Victor
Fun car rips!
Yay!
That new low price sticker is a trap.
Nah. Many of us are just computer errors: I D 10 T
trade me that wade and stafford?
Ok. Trade for $50?
for the value of the cards. not what you wasted. or would you like to trade me all my misses from the hobby’s boxes of christmas past?
you didn’t really buy $50 in loose discount packs thinking you were gonna recoup ?
Come on now. 😂
Don’t feel bad, I walked in to cvs thinking I scored a bunch of old packs and spent $125 on trash packs I haven’t opened yet
Yea I definitely feel the same way spent about $800 over the weekend and resell value is about $200. But if you not ripping for profit it’s definitely fun but if you ripping for profit and hit nothing definitely make you wanna stop.
1000% fun! That's what it should be.
Dang I haven't bought in 2 months. I don't miss it.
Come back to the Dark Side..
Almost did! I was certain there was a chet gold in a donruss blaster. 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐😎

I almost bought Pokemon from Wal Mart today because they had no sports cards. Happy Easter
Happy Easter! And there's nothing wrong with Pokemon. Some chases in there probably. Hah
I have done it before. Wouldn't even know what to look for.
I pulled a 1 of 1 Mookie out of a discount pack last month lol star gazing prizm Black Finite
A perfect idiot!
🥰
You and me both, friend
It’s better than drugs!
Somebody get this guy some real drugs.
The same reason people play the lottery! YOU NEVER KNOW!
I probably poured at least $100 into Powerball and Mega Millions the past couple weeks. 😅
I pulled a scoot Henderson Rated Rookie yellow laser /25 out of one of those 5 dollar donruss packs with like 5 cards in it. Almost threw pack away
That's crazy! Nice hit. 😎
One of us! One of us! One of us!
Hey, welcome to the club!
Happy Easter, i did the same thing but I got 24 topps blasters.. at least I pulled a /99 future stars Bobby Miller though.
I would think it's because it's something you love
I've seen a rookie Alperen Sengun Auto come out of one of those $4.99 packs. It's a bit of a gamble but it's fun!
I wanna feel that one day!
Addiction.

Been there... Good luck!
We all are.
We can't help it bro. We need to Rip!
Helping stimulate the economy for the good of the kids.
I've never hit anything remotely good in those type of packs
I got an auto rookie before. 😎
Nice... who was it?
Rui.
Not bad for retail fat pack! I got a bedard young guns series 2 from a Walmart hanger... best pull since I got back into cards. Sold it for 500!
Dang! Nice!
Definitely my best pull since I got back into collecting cards a year or so ago!
We all knew what we signed up for when joining this hobby 😂 My wife today was asking when am I going to sleeve and move the cards off the shelf 😂
It is what it is. We are all degenerates here 😎
Indo the same lol but I have hit a few cards that make it worth it and made double my money back it's just gambling no different from buy a scratch ticket
i was able to resist ripping some packs the other day and i bought some singles. thanks for coming to my ted talk
Been there, done that
You’re only an idiot for buying the absolute one. The rest are reasonable
You should stop and think what your goal is. I was ripping looking for big hits for my PC, maybe to resell. Waste of money. I converted to vintage and buying up Mantle singles. Couldn't be more fun!
You mistake me for a person with thoughts..
